Really cozy environment and warm welcome from staff for my family with three little kids on a cold and wet day. The wood burning fire was lovely, as was the food. Nice selection on the children's and main menus and a delicious special (lamb) on offer that day.

Booked a table here as we were staying in a little cottage in Sheldon, from the moment we stepped in every member of staff was so welcoming and friendly, we ordered the prawn pil pil and olives followed by the pie and fish and chips, the prawns and olives were some of the best we have ever tasted and the mains were absolutely delicious, the beef in the pie literally melted in the mouth, absolutely amazing service, will definitely be back next time we come to visit, can’t recommend enough would give more than five stars if we could 🤩

Delicious Sunday lunch for 6 of us. Lovely warm welcome from Debs and Cass and it was a same day booking but they were able to accommodate us in the snug which was lovely and cosy. Our party had the roast beef and the pork, both of which were lovely. For dessert we had bakewell pudding, apple pie and bread and butter pudding all of which were really tasty. We had a lovely chat with them before we left, when it had quietened down a bit and a bit of banter!! So lovely to see people so passionate about making guests feel welcome and looked after, even when it was really busy. Thank you ladies we will definitely be back.

Put ran by presumably young locals. Very polite and curteous. The food however is highly processed and not home made, fish and chips for example, frozed fish, oven chips. Goat cheese tartlett with salad had loads of daft balsamic dressing thrown over it and a muxture with red onions chucked into a pre made pastry case with 2 bits of rocket.

A really lovely pub in a beautiful location, with genuinely friendly, welcoming-yet-unobtrusive staff. The food was tasty and well-presented, with good portion sizes for both adults and children. Just be aware that a 10% surcharge is automatically added, and given the drinks are already quite overpriced, it does make it a more expensive meal out. We didn't mind too much as it was a Christmas treat, but since we'd like to return some time, we'd need to factor this in.

We would like to say thank you for making our trip to Ashford in the Water so special and commend you for such high quality produce and dishes in your beautiful traditional country pub. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by a friendly ginger haired barman who showed us to a table and looked after us so well during our visit. Fantastic little pub we found on the way home from chatsworth house. Ideal to drop in for lunch. The food was really nice and the beer was too, alot of people were eating mixed food from sandwiches to pub classics and all look very nice. The beer garden at the back looks over the small local park area which is nice and plenty of space too to sit down and get shade if needed. Would highly recommend if passing 👌

Firstly as a positive the staff were very friendly and did their job well and this gave a nice friendly feel to the pub sadly that’s where the positives end. From the outside the pub was nice but inside was quite rough around the edges and not clean. The seats on the chairs which were of a velour type material were very marked and needed a good clean. The radiator that our table was situated by was filthy. The menus were marked with dried on food. The beer was watery and the beef pie that we ordered was very poor with lots of chewy meat that we couldn’t eat, so we left most of the meat, hopefully this gave a big hint! The chips which were supposed to be homemade were also very poor and dry, not at all what you’d expect when it says homemade chips on the menu. The vegetables were mediocre. The gravy in the pie was the nicest part of the meal. Our fault we should have left before we ordered the food on seeing the decor but we hoped that the food would be good. We also should have complained and asked for some money off the bill because of the disappointing food but we just paid up together with an already added 10% tip. We won’t visit again, but we hope this review will help with obvious issues for the pub to take on board for the future.

Four of us went for a late lunch on Saturday 6 th July so we could have our main meal before the England/Switzerland football match. We were warmly greeted by Casper. Our table was reserved in the main room but with a lot of people already in there it was too noisy so we asked to go into the snug which was no problem. The food was delicious. My husband had fish and chips. I tasted the batter which was the best! Really crispy and the chips too, not at all greasy. I had duck Bon Bons followed by beef brisket which just melted! So tender, the horseradish mash was too strong for me, a bit sour, should have had just plain. For dessert had lemon tart, filling was just right, sharp enough without being bitter. The only fault was the pastry case, should have been baked blind. Will definitely go again. The snug could do with a bit of smartening or new carpet as it had a bit of an “old” smell
