Superb food and impeccable service! Our visit to The Bull’s Head made our long weekend visit to the Peak District. We chose to go for the Game Casserole and Chicken Shawarma, these were absolutely brilliant, wonderful flavours throughout both dishes! We had a welcoming young chap welcome us to our table and serve us our drinks during our visit, he recommended us the Malbec with our meals which went down a treat, we recommend! The young waitress was polite and helpful also. The owners should be so very proud and we definitely plan to visit again when we come back up!

Our dishes were absolutely amazing. We would like to say thank you for making our trip to Ashford in the Water so special and commend you for such high quality produce and dishes in your beautiful traditional country pub. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by a friendly ginger haired barman who showed us to a table and looked after us so well during our visit. We opted for the chicken kebab and goan fish curry, we were so impressed with the standard of food and flavours! Well done, you clearly have a brilliant chef in your kitchen. We cannot recommend the Bulls Head enough. Absolutely first class

Stopping by with no reservations with a pram I popped in to make sure we could get a table and the staff were welcoming and accommodating allowing us to choose the table right for us, we chose the snug as to not disturb other customers. We were not forgotten about with orders taken, drinks arrived and food ordered taken and brought out within a short time. The food itself was tasty and a good portion size at a reasonable price. Parking is free outside but is limited but we had no problem arriving at 6pm

Food was great, really good quality, cooked brilliantly, shame I couldn't manage a starter as well as main. Fantastic little pub we found on the way home from chatsworth house. Ideal to drop in for lunch. The food was really nice and the beer was too, alot of people were eating mixed food from sandwiches to pub classics and all look very nice. The beer garden at the back looks over the small local park area which is nice and plenty of space too to sit down and get shade if needed. Would highly recommend if passing 👌

Firstly as a positive the staff were very friendly and did their job well and this gave a nice friendly feel to the pub sadly that’s where the positives end. From the outside the pub was nice but inside was quite rough around the edges and not clean. The seats on the chairs which were of a velour type material were very marked and needed a good clean. The radiator that our table was situated by was filthy. The menus were marked with dried on food. The beer was watery and the beef pie that we ordered was very poor with lots of chewy meat that we couldn’t eat, so we left most of the meat, hopefully this gave a big hint! The chips which were supposed to be homemade were also very poor and dry, not at all what you’d expect when it says homemade chips on the menu. The vegetables were mediocre. The gravy in the pie was the nicest part of the meal. Our fault we should have left before we ordered the food on seeing the decor but we hoped that the food would be good. We also should have complained and asked for some money off the bill because of the disappointing food but we just paid up together with an already added 10% tip. We won’t visit again, but we hope this review will help with obvious issues for the pub to take on board for the future.

Four of us went for a late lunch on Saturday 6 th July so we could have our main meal before the England/Switzerland football match. We were warmly greeted by Casper. Our table was reserved in the main room but with a lot of people already in there it was too noisy so we asked to go into the snug which was no problem. The food was delicious. My husband had fish and chips. I tasted the batter which was the best! Really crispy and the chips too, not at all greasy. I had duck Bon Bons followed by beef brisket which just melted! So tender, the horseradish mash was too strong for me, a bit sour, should have had just plain. For dessert had lemon tart, filling was just right, sharp enough without being bitter. The only fault was the pastry case, should have been baked blind. Will definitely go again. The snug could do with a bit of smartening or new carpet as it had a bit of an “old” smell

Expecting 3 different flavours of sausage but they came all the same on top of a dollop of mash. We all had a different things from the menu. Fish and chips were good Starters of crab cakes were just pre-made frozen and so were corn cakes. All a bit disappointing. We came here in March 2023, and loved it, and I had been looking forward to it for the entire year: we came back in April 2024, and I’m now looking forward to 2025. When we came in, Friday, two weeks ago, Casper, the manager, recognised us, and I don’t think it was fake recognition, it really was. Lovely to feel there is a place where you are in a way, just passing through, and you are remembered. The beer is good, the food is good, but the way that they do hospitality is absolutely exceptional: they really make you feel a little bit special. Can I clone you into my grim soulless southern city?

We are regular Bakewell visitors and generally spend most of our visits in the town. On that day we ventured into Ashford-In-The-Water, just to have a wander and a look around the village. The Bulls Head called out to us as we ambled by, the menu looked very nice indeed. And so we strolled in and found a table, easily. It's a lovely pub in a gorgeous village. Very comfortable and homely, we loved the atmosphere of the place. The food arrived and matched the general ambience. The most delicious sea bass I've ever tasted was heartily enjoyed, while my wife had the pie and her enthusiasm for her meal matched my own. It was divine. Wonderful food. Lovely pub. Excellent service. Highly recommended.

Cosy and friendly pub but my reason for giving only 3 stars is that firstly a 10% service charge was added to the bill with no mention of this on the menu. We nearly added service on top as it was just in small print at the bottom of the bill. To be honest I don't think a pub should be adding on a service charge. Secondly, we were charged £27 for a very basic bottle of rose which was showing at £24 on the wine list and £21 on the online wine menu. We were told it had gone up but that the menu prices hadn't been altered yet! an adjustment on our bill was made but I think this is poor and that the wine would be very over priced at £27. Otherwise we had a very pleasant evening but I couldn't help feeling duped.

We popped into this delightful village on the spur of the moment and looked for somewhere for lunch. The Bulls Head look just right from the information on the sign outside and the look of the front of the property.. We were warmly greeted, settled straightaway with drinks and the menu. Whilst everything on the menu sounded great the Gamekeepers Pie with suet crust sounded perfect on a wet and miserable day and we were not disappointed. It was smashing and good value for the price. Although we did not need them we were given sachets of sauces with the addition of little scissors to open them with. What a brilliant idea. The staff were lovely. Would certainly eat there again.

Friendly and welcoming staff, and good real ale, but sadly not at all vegetarian friendly as claimed. The only main course veggie options were curry and synthetic meat balls, so if you can't eat curry and don't like imitation meat, as was the case for three of our party, then there is nothing. Surprisingly, our enquiry whether the chef could do us a simple alternative like an omelette got a negative response, despite the place being quiet. In my six decades as a vegetarian, this is the first time that I've ever had such a request refused. We had to make do with the (again limited choice) veggie starters or starve as the other local eateries were all either full or closed. Most disappointing.

This was our second visit to Butter Fingers and both times have been brilliant! We were lucky to get a table as it is very popular. On our last visit they had sold out of their raspberry and white chocolate cake so I was delighted to see they had some on this visit. I certainly wasn’t disappointed! The cake was deliciously fresh and tasty and I had a Nutella milkshake too which was equally tasty. My partner had a pumpkin spice latte and a kinder blondie which he was very happy with too.
