The Bull Hellesdon in Broadland

Haven't been here since an extensive refurbishment has taken place. I came one Saturday evening when a band was playing, who were quite decent. Since my last review, I've come here several times on Saturday evening.

I liked the pub on walking in, good service at the bar for drinks. There are signs saying order food on the app, so download the app and ordered on there. On selecting the kids meal deal it took me through the options for each "stage" of the meal deal but never asked me for a dessert choice which is included in the price. Paid on the app and waited for our food, which took quite a while to say the pub was practically empty, the food was ok, typical pub food but after we'd finished we went to the bar to ask about the desserts for the kids meals as it didn't ask us in the app we assumed you up to the bar and tell them what you want, the barmaid said we should have ordered at the time on the app, we explained that it didn't give us that option, but she said it was to late and we would have to pay extra for the desserts, even though we'd paid the price for the meal deal! Shocking customer service and two very upset children.

We visited the bull yesterday for my husbands birthday and planned to eat and watch the match too. We know that the menu was changed in the summer time this year and have already had some negative issues with the food not being as good as before. I ordered the roast beef and my husband had the pork. When my roast arrived the beef looked like three thin rashers of beef, overcooked and there was no moisture at all. It resembled beige play food! The roast potatoes were frozen roasties and the plate was missing items such as peas and cabbage. This was such a let down and such a different roast experience to before the menu change. We used to want more roasties but I couldn’t even eat mine. They were plain dry and pointless. Why are they even serving food like this? I took my entire plate back to the bar and refused to eat it - They charge £18 for this which I think is an absolute joke. I feel sorry for the chef and kitchen staff who have to cook what the company decide to purchase probably knowing that it is cheap and below standard. I’d love to think that the bull would reconsider their menu again and bring it back to the good old days. I have never had any issues with the staff at the bull. They’re always friendly, happy and ready to serve us and this is our local so would hate to have to go elsewhere for a decent meal.

What a great family pub. Blows the rest out of the water with the service, decor and overall atmosphere. Couldn't fault the team, super friendly throughout.

Been here a few times over the past year. The first two visits were amazing. Sadly not nearly as good as it was. Dishes from the menu not available, individual items missing from dishes when meals delivered. For example, no fish which was notified when ordering, no pineapple with the gammon steak, no notification, and no explanation. Not sure we'll be back.

Great pub good food amazing staff and great atmosphere.

I was at the games evening regularly held by the pub and had a great time, lots of friendly customers asking what we were playing. The staff were helpful and swift to attend to my needs, with a great choice of food available for light snacks or a full meal. The garden area is a good size and very well maintained too. A lovely visit!

Went to the bull for a friends birthday, the 2for1 cocktails for under £10 were a good deal, we also stayed for the band afterwards who were also great.

Visited the bull yesterday and food was delicious, we both had burgers which include a pint for just £1.50 extra. Staff were chatty and welcoming.

Lovely pub to visit the new menu is fantastic, so many different options and well priced deals. Personal Thankyou to Mantas who is always happy to help and for the amazing bingo on a Sunday night, lots of preparation and thought behind each game and so much fun shared with friends!

Lovely pub with a massive garden, were pleasantly surprised how dog friendly it was when we were offered a water bowl and told about the dog menu by Mantas. Decent food for a decent price!

Cannot beat 2 for 1 cocktails! Huge shout out to Mantas for serving our drinks all evening and even bringing them over to our table! 10/10 service, I look forward to our next visit.

Nice pub near Norwich airport, food and drinks were priced affordably and the staff were great.

A good value for money pub/restaurant with high level of cooking Service is fast, efficient and friendly! My dog was made very welcome and was fussed over by the staff. The portions are very generous. I would recommend this place anytime , but remember to book early!

I would highly recommend this pub!, such a lovely atmosphere especially when the sun is out! I was catered by two individuals , Lennon and Deanna who were so kind and attentive to everyone’s needs! The food was also delicious! And great portion sizes Will most definitely be returning to the bull and spreading the name!

We had a lovely time at their first makers market, it was very well organised by Emma the manager, in a lovely pub garden with a relaxed atmosphere. Looking forward to future events

Me and my partner came here for the makers market and also the band, it was an anniversary meal too, all the staff were amazing, we didn’t wait long to be served and we had a booth outside. The band were great too. I didn’t get photos as the food was delicious and the stalls had so many wonderful things, the beautiful Emma served us and kept us informed on our order as was very busy. We both had a thoroughly enjoyable day, will definitely be back and have been recommending to friends ever since. Thank you to all the lovely staff that day!! If I could add more stars for atmosphere I would!!

Celebrated my 80th Birthday today with family for Sunday Lunch . Position in The Bull for us was perfect Service was excellent and the Food was delicious and served at the same time . Staff were helpful and not over crowding couldnt have enjoyed the day more. Thank You

A thoroughly enjoyable, tasty dinner. Emma was her usual charming self.

Food took 40 minutes to arrive, & was expensive for the amount.

We went for an evening meal and it was wonderful, the staff were attentive and speedy. The menu is varied enough and I have tried a few things and all have been very tasty. We were served by Amy and she could not have been more sweet, she recommended the fish and chips and checked with us that everything was as we expected, it was. Looking forward to our next visit.

Come regularly with the family. Love the big sharing plates. Always great service from friendly and welcoming staff.

The bull is the best pub in the local area, good food better drinks. The only downside is they changed aspalls for inches. Otherwise the bull is the best pub in Norwich.

Meal was nice but the chips weren’t vegan? Not sure why, can’t see any reason why vegan chips cannot be served. Edit*It was only the chips that were the issue here: If chips are needed I would go elsewhere (just from a vegan point of view) The Bull answered the review quickly and were happy to discuss options.

Just a pub that serves food, not amazing but not bad either

Food is always great here, it can be busy around 6 and sometimes they have live music here. Park in the beer garden for children. Can be tricky to get the pram in.

What we ordered wasn’t available,food was bland,not impressed although the place was nice.

We had our dad’s surprise 70th birthday drinks here we had about 60 people attend. From start to finish, making the enquiry to the afternoon the team here were amazing. Special thank you to Tom for being very accommodating and making the afternoon an amazing one

Had a jacket potato there yesterday suppose to be chilli beef and tortilla chips crushed. There was no beef on my potato, hardly had any cheese taste either, though the potato was well cooked. Had to ask where the tortilla chips were, said they were crushed when asked. Would be better with whole tortillas and obviously some beef to add to them.

New menu is a much needed improvement. Great variety.

Well tried them again after serval years. As result my 5 Star review is now in the trash bin and I'll tell you why. Wrong food Wrong Drinks Items missing The SINGLE thing they got right was the chips (Microscopically portioned as well! Such a shame they were so good and would be my Local Pub restaurant a I literally live around the corner from them. Don't go their for a meal, you'll be over priced and under served - even the staff said to formally complain when I challenged them about this! So that tells me the management suxs if there staff have zero loyalty to them as well!

Repeat visit looking forward to a Sunday Roast. Unfortunately the trio of roast meat seemed to be pre sliced & kept under a heat lamp. As all meats were incredibly dry & thinly cut. Considering the quality you can get at a nearby carvery for a smaller price it was disappointing. It's a shame as would like to be able to support places local to us. Despite this service was good

I have been coming since last year before to move to Hellesdon. Sunday roast was amazing! Incredibly reach and tasty.... in the last few months the quality dropped and so the size... I used to bring there all my friends, but I won't do anymore for the Sunday roast. I gave 3 different occasions in three different weeks to be sure that wasn't just a bad day... but, I have to say, I felt ashamed to bring my friends there promising a luxurious Sunday roast. I tried by myself last Sunday and still was so disappointed that I will never go there again for a Sunday Roast, neither I will advise or bring any friend.

Popped in for a break, between meetings in the area, I was met by friendly staff and the food was lovely and arrived quickly. Thanks

Lamb shank roast was extremely cold and meat was tough. We complained and a refund was made along with an apology but we won't be going there again. Shame, as we've previously had a couple of nice meals.

Family friendly pub with good food. The kids enjoyed the play area and garden. We gave it a try because of the "kids eat for £1" offer which was greatly appreciated in the Easter holidays! Would definitely come again

Dogs allowed, very busy but very nice staff any goind cleanliness, I think a bit of a nusiance some.dogs really going at eachother but thats down to owners really

Having booked a table, my wife and I arrived to mayhem in a seriously overcrowded pub. We queued, presented our email booking and watched as our table was given to an unbooked customer. I pointed out my booking on their tablet, but it was ignored. We were asked if we'd accept a makeshift table in the hallway outside the toilet and garden exit... Absolutely not: I booked in advanced and they ignored my booking. The manager was out of his depth; The booking system was a joke and ultimately ruined our evening. The system isn't working in this pub.

Food was lovely and good value. We had the light lunch which was a good portion. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Only drawback for us was that there were dogs in there that kept barking. Otherwise highly recommend.

After a disappointing meal we were invited back to try them again. The food was amazing. I had the cheese and mushroom burger, and it was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend had the rib rye and again this was absolutely delicious. The service was nothing short of perfect and the attention to detail was spot on. Thank you very much it was a delicious meal and we will be back again soon and enjoy a drink and maybe a meal in the garden.

We received great attentive service, staff were friendly and chatty. We didn't wait long for our food. Our steak sandwiches were cooked to perfection, our waitress asked how we would like them cooked, which was a lovely touch. This chef knows how to cook steak, we had ours rare and they were so flavoursome. We also loved the bread, so delicious! Came with a nice side salad, chips and a pot of gravy, proper comfort food. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We will come again.

Often too rowdy for me, I now go the Oaks, it’s a bit of a stretch but at least you can hear yourself think without someone shouting at the top of their voice because sometimes scored a goal… The Bull is OK for Sunday lunch though, assuming they have not run out of food…

I've been here twice, on both my visits to Norwich. The food here is outstanding, the atmosphere comfortable and relaxing and the staff is the BEST! Was here both times with a large group (18) and they took the best care of us. We pre-ordered our entrees which made the entire service seamless. Very much looking forward to visiting again and highly recommend this place.

Went for our Christmas work meal today (19/12/2023) ... very friendly staff from arrival. Had the Festive Set Menu, which had been pre-booked (main & dessert, but there's an option to have a starter) Chose the hand carved turkey for main, which was really nice & enjoyed very much. For dessert I had the caramelised biscuit & berry, which also very nice. Service was fantastic & so were the staff. Thank you 😊 ... hope you all have a lovely Christmas.

We didn't have food just a quick hot drink but the interior is warm and cosy and the staff we friendly and service was great!

Only popped in for a pot of tea. A lot of people are in for food. Menu has good variety, but it's a bit pricey. It has a feel of restaurant, not pub atmosphere. Staff ok

Myself, husband and two of our friends each had a roast lunch. It was cold,aunt Bessie Yorkshire pudding, frozen vegetables. Stuffing was so small that I couldn't find it. Roast potatoes were small and burnt. Paid extra for cauliflower cheese and that was not fresh but frozen, it was watery and tasteless. It was very cold in there , no heating on but that went with our meal, cold

The meal was very disappointing. When I raised my concerns that it did not appear to be representative of the menu description, I was not dealt with sympathetically. I will not be returning.

My son got married and we went for a meal here afterwards just a few of us we really enjoyed it all

Wonderful friendly staff. Waitress really looked after us I think her name was Dena so helpful and booked me in for Sunday lunch for tomorrow. Barman very chatty and welcoming and the manager was just wonderful too. Food excellent and excellent wine too. Just a lovely lunch around wonderful people who really looked after us. Thankyou

Very expensive, food average. Nothing special about this place. I won't there again and I don't recommend it. Just a normal pub, £40 for two drinks and two meals,my wife did not like her meal it was bland. Mine just a plain burger and no onion rings. Very poor ..No ... too expensive

I turned up for a quiz night hosted by Mantas. Made the atmosphere very friendly and enjoyable, would definitely come again.

Went in for the first for some drinks at my daughters recommendation and was served by Mantas at the bar. He was very personable and informative about all upcoming events !

Attend this pub frequently for the quiz on Wednesdays and Sundays. Always a good atmosphere with approachable staff. Shout out to mantas who is always welcoming and provides great customer service to all.

A lovely pub with fantastic food, a nice carpark, the pub caters for adults, children, and even dogs, which is especially helpful for us when we take our namesake, the Dash - hounds for a 'business meeting'! The staff are friendly and helpful, and the outdoor area has lights and heaters, so even on slightly cooler evenings you can dine outside.

Dissatisfied and disappointed, didn't have any roast dinners, didn't have half the desserts, what we did manage to order took a long time then was mainly burnt, the menu over exaggerates what you actually get, the gammon was terrible, the mushrooms were awful and looked like they had been sat around for hours, the pies were good but the only dish that was up to scratch, the desserts, which were descent to be fair especially the kids deserts which were the same size and quality as the adults which everybody liked, took over 40 minutes to arrive and nobody bothered to clear the table of the mains, no apology from anyone and they must have known the food was not good, all in all the kids were happy but all six adults were very dissatisfied and will not be returning, shame as the last time we went probably about this time last year it was really good, not anymore, we weren't expecting anything more than a basic pub meal, what we received wasn't up to school dinner standard, avoid the food here there are plenty of other places nearby that are better than this

The Bull Hellesdon is located at The Bull, 197 Reepham Rd, Norwich NR6 5QA. Sandwiches are delicious, good atmosphere and spacious seating area. Outdoor seating area is very nice. Plenty of parking spaces are provided.

I went into The Chestnut Tree, on the off chance they were still doing a roast dinner service, it was 8pm on Sunday the 4th of June and luckily I was in time. I was approached by Tom. Tom made me feel very welcome and allowed me to order straight away and with no fuss! I believe I was quite picky in what I wanted from the roast and what I did not want but Tom said it was no problem, he didn't know but I am a type 1 diabetic and not only did Tom accommodate my needs for the roast dinner but allowed me the same privilege when getting a desert, you have no idea how much this helps me managing my condition and I really wish more establishments were open about there menu for this very reason! The food I received was also very tasty and hot! An exquisite presentation and value for money! Will definitely recommend and go again! Also shout out to Ben behind the bar for also being very open and welcoming. Thank you
