The Bull in Braintree

Alex and I took our Wedding party to The Bull for post ceremony drinks and Buffet! we spoke to Lauren some weeks before about holding our party there, she said that would be no problem at all, and it wasn't. The only thing they couldn't do for us was supply food, as we had too large a party, but we ordered in a Buffet, An area was set aside for us and which Lauren and her staff kindly decorated. We took our 66 people in for the afternoon/evening and at no point during our hours there did any of us have to wait to be served. Lauren and her team were excellent, friendly hosts as we knew they would be, having experienced their hospitality before. We are never getting Married again, but me and my new Wife will be visiting many more times. Matt and Alex

This venue appeared scruffy and not very clean (thick cobwebs on the dirty windows) but going by previous positive reviews, we decided to stay. One review mentioned a "great selection of beers", but out of eight handpumps (all, strangely, labelled GK IPA) seven were not working, so No. 8 (GK IPA) was the only ale choice - and that was chilled! Surely pub management should know that real ales should never be ice cold... The food menu was basic, and that's exactly how it turned out - a cheese toasty with almost no cheese in it - so didn't tase of anything at all. The cod goujon sandwich was OK, but the miserly portion of chips @ £3.25 worked out at about £0.20/chip. Our meals came with a side salad, which was fresh but drenched in the most disgusting dressing. They replaced this, to be fair, but this sort of thing should be optional! The staff were polite, but it should have been obvious that we didn't enjoy our meal, so overall, an unpleasant and dissatisfying visit - we won't be back.

Great selection of Beers. Level Head was my favourite, staff where very helpful and friendly. The Chicken Caesar burger was spot on and was in a Burger and pint deal 😋

We came out for a couple of drinks in the evening and decided to go to The Bull. The band was brilliant and so were the staff. So happy we decided to come here and will most definitely be back for the next band night.

Went to Braintree to look round shops etc., thought we'd try the Bull for lunch, being a Green King pub, have had good experiences in the GK pubs near our home. This time we were totally disappointed, the food was luke warm and very sparse,tried complaining but didn't get anywhere. Won't be going back.

Visited for live music recently... The band were great and was an amazing atmosphere!! Will be back for the next one 🙌🏼🎉

Went to the Bull to watch the England game and had a lovely meal in a great atmosphere - bar staff very friendly will be back

Had the lovely cheese and bacon burger whilst watching the F1, great pub for sport and the food is excellent, well worth a visit for food sport or good company

Had a great time here for the football. Perfect place for watching England with my friends, our food was delicious and the staff are lovely. Kayden really looked after us and made sure we were all set up ready for the game. We will be coming back on Tuesday, can’t wait!

Lunchtime menu offer. Staff unable to match offered menu on till. Menu stated "draught beer", but this didn't say restricted to one type. Price shot up. Misleading menu offer, and staff unable/unwilling to resolve.

Thank you so much lauren fabris for all help for my 40th birthday celebrations. Decorations balloons ect all done before I arrived. Everyone all attended for quickly at the bar. Just want to thank lauren and team for all there hard work.x

Food is outstandingly good in this light and airy pub. Meat in particular seems to be a speciality and the steak and smoked ribs (off the bone) were truly superb. Waiters very attentive and you feel they are so because of pride. Overheard another customer saying best burger she'd ever had and can well believe.

Great food, lovely friendly helpful service, great beer that I haven't found around this area, only ever London. Definitely coming back

Been here many times, my absolute favourite place to eat

We are regular visitors to the Bull Hotel: we find the food excellent - it can take its time to appear but it well worth the wait as the food is freshly prepared to order. On this occasion everything was perfect. There is a good range of options from their Smokehouse and al a carte menus. We prefer to eat in the bar area but the restaurant is also a great place to eat. Always find the staff friendly and efficient.

Great smokehouse meat menu with our table of four opting for the Wagyu & Fillet Steaks Stand out starters were the 'Pit Beans' & the 'Pork Scratchings' Good draught beer selection Tasty puddings/desserts

Food was delicious and reasonably priced, and the waiter was charming. The restaurant was next to empty (Thursday evening). Don't bother with cocktails - £8.50 and served with no trimmings in a water glass.

Booked a table for lunch midweek with my husband and our baby. Table ready for us, it wasn't busy but the service was excellent-didn't feel rushed but nor were we left waiting an age. We had beef brisket and the beef rib both were delicious. My husband enjoyed the craft beers. All in all would definitely go back, probably not with the rest of our young children as there is no appropriate outdoor space for little ones (the setting of the venue-nothing they can do about it) but definitely as a couple or with friends.

First of all, We arrived at the bar and was seated at our table. The food was flavoursome. Service was very good.

I did not need to be lectured on wine choices being a restaurant owner. Extremely arrogant server and pushing on price alone. Steak not fresh. Ordering rare no sign of blood. Either been frozen and thawed or old. Annoying to have adjacent table being cleaned with solvent while still eating. Very similar to Little Chef practice. Very disappointed with this visit. Nothing like the website publicity. . Not worth the cost.

Nice cozy place that was welcome. One member of our party was running late. We were invited to sit in the really comfortable sofa area to wait. Good choice of burgers and steaks. Nice selection of beer and wine.

Lovely meal and the staff were very attentive. We were initially disappointed with our table but the staff made every effort to remedy the situation. The food was delicious and the wine choice very good.

It's a pleasure to have such a friendly but high quality establishment in the locality - relaxed and vibrant but totally professional, superb food, excellent and interesting wine list. Everything you could want from a restaurant (but that so many other places seem to get wrong). Our waiter, Nick, was a credit to the restaurant and made sure my wife's birthday gathering was perfect. Thanks indeed to all at The Bull.

Lovely lamb dinner well cooked and tasted great

The pub dates back to the 14th century and has lovely fireplaces and floorboards and has a modern but sympathetic feel. There are sofas and comfy chairs along with traditional dining chairs. The service was fine, nothing exceptional but nothing bad. The bar had a nice selection of beers and the bar maid offered to make any cocktail you wanted. I would have liked more choices on the menu such as fish, a choice of rubs, a plain chicken burger, hotdogs, jacket potatoes, sauteed potatoes, onion rings, garlic bread or corn on the cob and lamb without the bone in, i love lamb but i couldn't have it due to it being on the bone. The food was absolutely lovely, so flavoursome, it really was nice, i really did enjoy the food. One of the things that i really didn't like was our meal was interrupted, quite significantly by a wedding party who had hired a function room at the hotel but the bar in the function room wasn't open so they came through to the bar in the restaurant. The party made it impossible to have a conversation with the person sat next to you and you had people stand very close to your table whilst eating. Food a little expensive but good for a treat. Having said this i would definitely return, if there wasn't a function.

Great Green Smoker at the back and an Texas Oil drum. You can't find this style of cooking outside of Zone1 in London apart from this place. Brilliant.

The quality of the food was good with the exception of the salad withe chicken dish and the cauliflower side dish which were not good

Food was excellent, the slow cooked pork belly rib in particular was outstanding and melt in your mouth. There is also a very interesting wine list. Will definitely visit again.

Great place to eat, the best steak in Kent, great beer, and excellent service. Would definetly recommend.

The food was ok, nothing to complain about but nothing special. I'm getting a bit fed up of "alternative" plates like the enamel dish our food was served in, and the little buckets the chips came in. Perhaps I've missed the point of the place but the meat was ok, I've had better at our local flaming grill pub for half the price.

Great find for proper smoked food (southern US style) as opposed to the microwave stuff you might come across in the big restaurants which have a grill on show but don't have the patience or know how to cook low and slow! Look forward to trying this place again even if it's for a beer as that was nice too.

The Bull Smokehouse provides a tasty & delicious & interesting menu. The Wagyu Beef & Chicken Rissotto being our current favourites. A fantastic & varied range of craft beers on tap, Chapel Down Curious Brew & Beavertown neck oil always hit the spot. Always a nice welcome & attentive staff. Looking forward to our next visit.

Can't say enough about this place - creative menu that is delicious but will accommodate special requests. Atmosphere fantastic- there are a few options - fine dining, pub casual and outdoor seating. Staff is friendly and capable!

I have been here before for dinner and had a very pleasant time but was a little disappointed this time. Whilst our meal was served in a reasonable amount of time we heard others complaining about the 45 minute wait they had endured for their meal. They were told this was because it was busy but the restaurant was 2/3rds empty - so not sure what the problem was. The person apparently in charge was also less than discreet in handling the matter giving the serving waitress instructions most of the restaurant could hear. I had to send back the toast that accompanied my warm beef pate and the replacement was warmed bread rather than toast. I had the chicken risotto which was Ok but the slow cooked beef was very good. Small choice of desserts - 4, which was disappointing so skipped that course. Having had a much better evening meal previously we shall be going back as they seem better equipped for the evenings, but future visits will rest on the next visit.

Odd start to the meal, where there appeared to be some confusion between the waiter and manager, which saw us being reseated, being told it was the wrong table, but it was clearly because they had a party of 4 coming in and needed the space Food was nice, could tell the meat was good quality, but the sides were small and disappointingly didn't match their description. We ordered the kimchi coleslaw - which the server took the trouble to check with us we wanted it as it was "spicy", it wasn't, was rather insipid. Quite expensive, seems to be trading a bit on reputation rather than delivery. Nice meal, but about 20% overpriced in all.

We had a delicious meal from the Smokehouse menu. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

Gerencia y el personal es muy amable y se trabaja muy organizadamente. Mi bar favorito en Braintree.

Stopped off here on our way to Colchester with loadsa other blades fans. Great staff great pub oh and cheap can't fault it.

Tenía una gran preescolar Crimbo bocado para comer con los amigos. Reservamos una mesa para 8 y aunque no estábamos comiendo en un menú de Navidad, la mesa había sido vestidas con galletas saladas. Marlon el/ favorito nuestro camarero no podía hacer lo suficiente para nosotros. Como éramos un grupo de amigos que amablemente nos separaba la factura desde el comienzo, y dijo que no era un problema. De hecho nada fue un problema- no puedo ponerle pegas a la noche. Gracias Marlon y el equipo. Muy acogedor pub, incluso si no eres un habitual, que es fantástica.

We went for Sunday Lunch but did not fancy the usual roast, although the one on the menu was available for £13, and looking around us the portions were more than adequate. We opted for the Smokehouse menu which had a good selection of barbecue meats. Good beer and real ale selection, and glancing at the wine menu would keep most oenophiles happy. Food was of good quality, and offered with 'homemade' sauces, which made a good change from the Heinz variety. We would be back

Food was good when it eventually arrived despite the staff not actually knowing what food they were carrying. I liked the addition of live Blues guitar but it did inhibit conversation slightly. Staff seemed to hunt in packs.

Only just found this place it will be more of a regular visit especially on a Monday when the Smoke House menu has 20% discount making it even more great value for money.

La comida razonable pero demasiado caro para lo que te dan. La elección es limitada y se puede conseguir el mismo, o similar, en Braintree a un precio más bajo. El servicio es normal y el exterior es la izquierda sembrados de utilizamos vajilla y copas durante demasiado tiempo. No es un lugar que recomiendo. Dicho esto, es precioso interior durante el invierno y su chocolate caliente surcado por alcohol de su elección es delicioso!

Recientemente estuve en este pub con la familia en 24 th 2015 Julio. Elegí este pub porque tenía buenas críticas y había un pagar aparcamiento cerca que estaba a poca distancia para mi anciano padre.Un encantador pub antiguo con vigas y auténtica leña's, buen ambiente a la hora del almuerzo con una buena mezcla de grupos de edad. Pedimos tres comidas y dos pintas y una copa de vino y la factura era muy razonable de alrededor de £25!!. Esperamos un corto periodo de tiempo para las comidas, ya que era la hora de la comida, pero no nos decepcionó cuando la comida llegamos, era precioso.El personal también fue excelente y muy amable, y comprobando por nosotros para asegurarse de que todo estaba bien. Todos disfrutamos nuestras comidas y tiempo que pasé en el pub y sin duda alguna que otra vez.

Visitamos aquí para el almuerzo recientemente por primera vez en años.Buena selección de picaduras de lite y las comidas principales.No es muy barato, pero no es muy caro.Todo el personal es muy amable y comprobando en nosotros.La comida en sí era realmente precioso. Amazing staff who make you feel really welcome. Great place for a bite to eat and drink at lunchtime. The menu is the usual pub fare but always cooked and presented really well and there are some really nice healthy options as well.

I usually go to Wetherspoons when working because it's cheap but this was very similar prices and deals plus the food was good, fish finger sandwich was lovely and the staff were friendly. Definitely going back.

Me parada en este pub regularmente. Tengo que decir que la comida es genial como el personal. El personal es muy amable y servicial. Se esfuerzan de manera encontrábamos para hacerme feliz. Ofrecen para calentar la comida y la leche de mi bebé para mí. No puedo nombre ¿dónde hacerlo. Volvería otra vez.

Quería conocer a unos amigos en un sitio céntrico para una bebida, así que tampoco la opción de aquí o Wetherspoons. El Bull gana sin - mucho más pequeña, pero dinámica lugar, con un ambiente mucho más bonita. puede que no sea el lugar más barato en el mundo (comparado con imagen Palace), pero a un precio razonable.

Yo tenía buenos recuerdos de este pub de sus antiguos días, así que quería que me encanta, sin embargo ... Tuvimos que esperar una eternidad a conseguir bebidas, comida, agua. copas envió como sucio, cuando la comida llegamos 3/6 comidas eran pequeñas, seco y 2 tenía que ser envió como solo tibio. El brûlée no está preparado y cuando la factura llegamos era incorrecta y nos habían cobrado. Todas las pequeñas cosas pero colectivamente muy decepcionante. En el lado positivo absolutamente compacta y decoración estupenda pero no podemos permitir que probarlo de nuevo.

agradable pub para una pinta rápida. Buenas vistas del mercado para observar a la gente. No he comido en este pub pero el menú parece muy adecuado para un bocado rápido. Bonita zona exterior si el clima es más caliente, pero me di cuenta, hay estufas de patio bajo las prestó paraguas.

Had company Xmas meal at the Bull, despite it nit being party venue. Service was very good, staff helpful, food excellent and great atmosphere. Busy pub with excellent food.

Hemos comido aquí durante el verano y nunca he tenido una mala experiencia, la comida es excelente y el servicio es excepcional en comparación con otros pubs en el centro de la ciudad en Braintree.
