The Buck Public House in Wrexham

Visited the buck for a Sunday roast for the second time having experienced one of the best roast dinners last time, we decided to visit again. However, we left the second time round (today - 12th January 2025) very disappointed and upset. My friend who is vegetarian originally ordered the wellington however asked to personalise it to have an extra Yorkshire pudding instead of the wellington itself. When our food arrived not only had the waitresses got his order wrong after having explained to the waitress multiple times what he wanted leaving us already unhappy. After having just a few mouthfuls of his wellington we came to realise that actually we believe there was meat specifically beef in it which we inspected thoroughly. We called a waitress over to enquire further to which she ensured us it wasn't meat but took it through to the chef however appeared rather quickly stating it wasn't. My friend felt uncomfortable eating anymore of it so left it to the side meaning it was half of his meal he was no longer able to enjoy. Unfortunately the disappointment didn't end there, the dish had carrots and parsnips but were both practically raw where we were unable to physically get a knife through the larger chuck of each the carrots and parsnips. The cauliflower cheese is served in a separate dish to the main plate of food, this was also cold and fairly stodgy to eat leaving further food for us unable to eat. When trying to enjoy the rest of our food the roast potatoes were considerably pale however we ate them anyway due to otherwise not being able to eat virtually any of it! We ordered our drinks as we sat down both opting for a pint of Pepsi which when arriving at our table and taking a first sip was flat. We then asked for the bill where we had been charged for the extra Yorkshire pudding which we shouldn't of been charged for, as the order had not been correct in the first place! We asked why we had been charged extra money to which we received a comment back in what I would class as quite a patronising tone which as a teacher was rather undermining! Overall, our experience at the buck was severally disappointing and we will not be returning.

A family came to the table next to us. Had there meal and had ordered pudding but were then asked to move ad they had a large party to sit down. These had been coming in for a while but weren't able to sit down as nothing had been sorted for them. Then we were asked to move as well. We'd finished our meal but wanted to finish our drinks in peace. This wad OUR Christmas outing as well as the large party who were still waiting to be seated. A couple at the bar were saying that they weren't impressed either as this had been booked for months and food was pre- ordered. Obviously someone in charge who couldn't organise a p@#s up in a brewery. No sincere apologies. No discount for spoiling our evening. Don't go if you've booked and expect anything to be organised. On the food.... 30 out of 10. It was all pretty amazing. Just the organisation and disrupting our night greatly let the Buck down.

Had afternoon tea at the Buck today. great food and plenty of it. A take out box was provided so we could take some of the left overs home. Friendly welcome and great surroundings. Definitely recommend, especially while the August offer is on @ £10 per person .

The best Katsu meal I’ve had in a long time the menu is superb tbh my partner had the tray of Fajitas and it came on a plentiful tray with chicken and beef cooked to perfection

The Afternoon tea offer is a must for family and friends to get together . The staff are friendly and polite and the place is decorated beautiful. We cannot fault this little gem of a place, we are very lucky to have this in our own village.

Took advantage of the July £10pp afternoon tea offer. It was outstanding value for money. The only thing we thought was odd was that it didn't come with a cup of tea, but for the price we didn't mind paying extra.

Called in on the off chance for some food , ordered drinks and sat in the restaurant We was the only people in the restaurant and we couldn’t here ourselves think or have a conversation together!! The shouting and screaming and banging of tables from the pool room was unbearable so we left Hopefully try again sometime

We went for the £12 fish, chips & drink deal. The food was tasty and the portion was huge. There were a few options for the included drink, we chose a cocktail which was very tasty and the spirits hadn’t been skimped on. The races day deals were also amazing!

Went as a family for Sunday lunch, food & service was excellent! Lovely environment, will definitely be going back soon!

I’ve previously written a great review about here a few months ago but now - Awful! Avoid, avoid, avoid! Booked my husbands birthday meal here around a month ago for tonight. Turned up to a note on the door saying closed until 20th November. No text, no call. Awful service, my poor 2 year old was so hungry and crying as we drove around searching for somewhere else (ended up at the Boat about 10 minutes away… fantastic service there!) Will not be back.

Wow...compliments to the Chef. I have to say one of the tastiest Sunday dinners I have ever eaten. This establishment is very cosy and dog friendly. A must to visit if in the area. We will definitely return. Sue G

This was my first visit to The Buck but, hopefully, will be one to be repeated often. The dining room is pleasantly decorated and comfortable. We were there for Sunday lunch and the menu had lots of ‘Sunday roast’ choices with fresh vegetables and the most amazing Yorkshire puddings. On our table we chose the beef and turkey and both were excellent. We saw ham being served to a neighbouring table and that looked very good too. We were too full for puddings but will certainly be back to try more of their delicious food. Staff were friendly , helpful and still smiling when every table seemed to fill up at once😃

Have been to the Buck several times now. When it first opened the service was excellent. Sadly, this is not the case anymore. The waitresses seem to go out of their way to ignore customers and it took us ages to get menus. When we finally managed to order the food took over 40 minutes to arrive! Could understand if the place was busy but sadly it wasn't there were only a handful of customers, I wonder why? We were not offered desserts so all in all not the best experience. No bon amie.

We have been to the Buck many times and always have a great time, there is a very friendly atmosphere and the food is excellent. On Saturday 19th August we had our wedding reception here. Adam (manager) was absolutely brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and he was brilliant on the day too. Our buffet was excellent, guests all enjoyed it and commented on the day. The service was fantastic, we couldn’t have asked for more. I couldn’t recommend the Buck highly enough.

The service and atmosphere of the Buck was amazing and the food was absolutely delicious but the only thing I didn’t like was when I went to the bar to order a drink a lad with a shaved head and ginger beard was quite rude towards his fellow colleagues and also took a while to take anyone’s order but other than that I thought that mine and my colleagues experience at The Buck was really good and we will be returning in the near future

On entering this establishment the staff use their mystical powers to know exactly how you are feeling in case there is any issues later. Be advised there is no disabled parking as the law doesn’t require them to supply, would be nice to go above and beyond, if needed make sure they clearly hear you asking for a disabled toilet or you don’t get to use one, then you can just struggle. Cold vegetables re heated in the microwave lovely. Advised staff lamb was not good no offer of a replacement or any sort of cost reduction. Watch the kids ice cream £4.00 for 2 scoops. Manager only interested in taking the money but very sorry you had a poor meal. Never forget the customer is alway wrong even if you are polite at all times and leave staff tips.

We went for a Sunday roast, and it was incredible. Both our starters were delicious, I had a Caesar salad and it was great, so great I’d definitely go back to have this as a main course. The roast beef was amazing, I've literally never had such tender beef! The portions were really well-sized too, so much so we couldn't manage a pudding. The staff we're great too! We’ll 100% be back and can't wait to try the À la carte menu! Thanks for the great meal! Where the pub is located it's also perfect for a walk along the river after or before your meal.

Went here last night for some food and can’t believe we’ve never been before! The food was fabulous, the two waitresses we had (two young brunette girls) were amazing and a credit to your team. One of them even saw our 1 year old getting a bit naggy and brought him a colour book and pencils which made his day! The brownie was incredible - best brownie I’ve ever had! Will definitely be back!

Visited with a friend for dinner and a catch up. Both the pub side and the restaurant were buzzing and there was a lovely family atmosphere. Chose steaks and enjoyed them once my friend had had hers cooked a little more - all done with good grace and lovely service. Staff were great and looked after us all evening. Great place to pop in for just a drink or enjoy a family celebration.

We went for a meal at The Buck and ordered the Fish and ‘Proper’ chips, Ribs and Cheeseburger. The food was very good, my ribs were the best Ribs I’ve ever had. Service was good too. We would definitely recommend. Thank you 😊

Have been here several times recently...the main menu is varied and excellent the staff are very friendly and accommodating...today went for Easter Sunday lunch...and had the best meal out I've had in ages. As well as the traditional roast dinners this was something a bit different Lamb rump with salted roasted new potatoes...feta olive pomegranate and asparagus salad with a raspberry and balsamic reduction. To follow hot cross bun bread butter pudding with an orange creme anglaise. Superb.!!xx

The restaurant was quiet when we arrived but the bar area full of locals drinking at the bar. We sat for almost 30 mins without anyone asking us for a drinks order. Eventually I joined the locals at the bar and there is definitely a clicky feel as I was avoided whilst they were served before me despite me waiting longer. The food order wasn’t taken for almost an hour after arrival and we were in there for almost 3hrs in total as everything was extremely slow. The food on a positive note was quite nice but we only had a starter & a main in that time. I wouldn’t return simply because of the chilled out service which is a shame as it is quite nice inside and definitely has potential if the restaurant guests were looked after as well as the bar visitors. I’m sure if the service improves I may try it again in the future.

We had a family members Wake in the Buck Pub yesterday and was highly impressed with the organisation, food and professionalism of the team. We would highly recommend their services for any function. Thanks Guys

Very expensive and tiny portions Went for a meal with friends, found that the dining room joins onto the bar, which at times made it hard to hear,due to the shouting from the drunks at the bar. Food was very expensive, considering the lack of quality, portion size is tiny, and we all found the food tasteless. It would be better serving good old fashioned pub food, it would be more suited to the establishment, rather than trying too hard to achieve any sort of fine dining. It was such a disappointment as was expecting much better

We have visited here several times since it reopened and the food, service and atmosphere in the place is just brilliant. You've got to visit - you won't be disappointed.
