The Brook Inn in Ipswich

Service and Food both poor. Arriving 10 mins before our table reservation we were seated and then ignored. 20 minutes later we were told that a large party had ordered and that we would have a 30 minute wait. In fact we waited 40 mins. Food was poor. Hard deep fried roast potatoes, under cooked vegetables and tough meat. Should have stayed at home.

Great food, great staff. Full up on a Wednesday night, doesn’t that say something. Eaten here three times now and always good.

the mackerel pate starter came with a piece of toasted bread no larger than a pencil. We asked for more, the waitress instantly said that’s 50p extra. What a miserly, mean way to operate! Totally put us off. I’d expect that from a really low-rent caff, but this is supposedly high quality and has the prices to prove it. Definitely NOT value for money.

Lovely interior very cosy. Food amazing Thai green curry with chicken and poperdoms. Belly pork just melted in mouth lovely crackling mashed potatoes and vegetables. Extremely busy but service was quick and efficient. Staff very friendly and happy. Make sure you reserve a table.

Had Sunday lunch here in September 2024 and possibly one of the best roasts I’ve had. The pork was tender and tasty, lots of beautifully cooked veg, but the GF yorkshire pudding really was the icing on the cake! A really welcoming restaurant/ pub with a good layout and fantastic menu which had heaps of choice and so many options for GF. I was super impressed and whilst the food was amazing the service especially was exceptional.

Had a fabulous meal here on Friday evening. We were beyond impressed with the food and the general quality of the experience. Essentially, the menu consists of 'pub favourites' but the way they are produced and presented is something special. Well done, we will be back!

An excellent meal again today, we had the fishcake of the day and the scotch egg for starter, both delicious. The mains were both from the specials board, I had the ribs which were cooked to perfection and so tender, my wife had the fish pie and said it was the best fish pie she has ever had and she has had a few over the years. Request from my wife to please keep it on the specials board and compliments to the chef. Never had a bad meal and good value and good portion size as well as delicious, the service is great too, keep up the great work!

I was here with family, mid week, hoping I could write a more forgiving review than my last one in May. The place was full - did they perhaps have a special offer day for senior citizens?!! The staff are charming but they need more. The service was slow, extremely so. In fact I don't think I have ever waited so long for a meal. However, when it did eventually arrive it was delicious . Maybe on my next visit (the third) things will have improved.

Wow!! What a super roast lunch!! Lovely service, and an enormous portion of roast dinner. The beef was perfect, and rhe Yorkshire puddings are massive!! Fully recommend a Sunday roast here. Our teenager ordered the ham, eggs and chips, and that was also huge!! They're taking a doggy bag home with them. The 12 Yr old ordered the fish and chips, of which he demolished, and then ordered a creme brulee! Great place. I highly recommend. But, make sure you're hungry, cos there's a LOT of food!! Yum.

We booked as a family of 7 and weren't disappointed. Delicious food and good sized portions. There was so much to choose from and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Fabulous meal on a Tuesday evening. Steak and ale pie was devoured by my husband whilst I enjoyed the king prawns in garlic and chilli with lovely bread and butter. Staff always friendly and courteous.... We will continue to return Thanks to all involved

Excellent food, friendly helpful staff. This is the place to go if you require gluten free meals, not that you would realise that they are gf! Would highly recommend for either lunch or dinner, but best to book as it is deservedly popular.

On previous occasions all has been delightful. However, not on our last visit. The staff are friendly, as they always are, but this time service was slow, very slow. The Sunday luncheon was substandard - what's happened? We love this place, set in a pretty village and parking is easy. We will return, but not for a while, in the hope that both service and food improve. We don't mind paying high prices when the food justifies it. This time it definitely did not.

Went here with a group of 7 for a pre booked Sunday lunch. Ordered drinks which arrived promptly. I took ages before our food order was taken. The same applied to the arrival of the food. In the meantime the dining area filled up and so did the noise levels. It got louder and louder. It was impossible to make any conversation at the table. After what seemed to be an age food arrived. My roast belly pork was inedible as were the roast potatoes both of which I would describe as being tough. By way of contrast the vegetables were nearly raw. The other orders for roast dinners were reported as being similar. The only plate cleared was Scampi and chips which is difficult, but not impossible, to get wrong. I couldn't wait to get out. Perhaps it was a bad day? However, when you have a known number of bookings, it should be possible as a professional outfit to get these things right. After all, others do.

i eat here on a regular basis but tonight was ruined by a coachload of rude drunk foul mouthed stowmarket rugby club players and supporters the pub was fully booked with diners and these louts should have been refused entry pub management did nothing it was a male customer who was brave enough tohave words and he got abbuse before they left i will never eat here agai

Lots of delicious, Gluten Free options, Lovely Burger, the other half had Tempura Prawns and raved about them! Superb Cheesecake for dessert, service was friendly and efficient, food very tasty!! Very good value for money!!

We had an amazing Christmas meal. Charlie and his team made us very welcome, they were warm and friendly. The food was amazing and we will definitely be back!

Even on a cold Tuesday lunchtime the pub was so busy. Everybody enjoying their food and drinks. Service was perfect, and good atmosphere. The portions were huge, maybe too large for most . The menu and specials board were very tempting. Well done the Brook, we will return soon.

Was literally no place better than this so far. Younger boy serving was professional, accurate and polite and the food came absolutely perfect. Not a long wait and it was insane. The pie was just fab, mushroom and truffle oil, and had lots of gravy just as you would want! The loaded fries side were ordered as main and these were large and perfectly covered! The whole experience was just perfect and I can't wait to go back!!

Nice surroundings, pleasant and helpful staff. Food is good and fresh, the only drawback is the prices they charge are on the steep side. A meat pie with vegetables at over £17 is not good value. All the other dishes are expensive too with burger and chips, fish and chips over £16. Heaven help you if you went to the specials board as most items over £20.

Fancied somewhere different. Rang to book a table, they kindly squeezed us in on a busy Friday night. The place was buzzing, with a great atmosphere. A good mix of diners; families, couples and friends catching up. Plenty of staff serving and behind the bar, they all seemed very organised. We were served promptly by Kacey, who was very polite and friendly and helped to answer our questions. On their recommendation we tried the deep fried gherkins.. they were gorgeous! Generous enough portion for two to share as a starter, came with sweet chilli dip, scrumptious! Had ham egg and chips for one and pie with chips and veg for other. All beautifully cooked, generous portions, no skimping on quality.. in particular the ham was “proper” nice ham and the veg was the nicest we’ve eaten out in a long while, especially the red cabbage, again “proper” just like mum used to do it! Finished with a brulee each, it was just perfect. Really happy with everything, our thanks to all the team at The Brook… we will definitely be back

Until the last 30 minutes that we were at the Brook Inn, we'd have given it 5 stars. The service was good, the food was very good. The steak and ale pie was large with tender meat and light pastry. The belly of pork was delicious with excellent crackling. Veg were great and cooked perfectly. All in all, the food was good value for money. The only part of the meal I really didn't enjoy was the chocolate orange creme brulee - all chocolate, no orange and I would debate that it was a true creme brulee. However, there are two restaurant rooms and the public bar joins onto one, with no door, just a very large gap in the wall. There were young children in the public bar until 8.30pm, who were jumping up and down the steps from one room to the other. We like children, but we don't necessarily want to have them around when we're out for a meal. And then the rugby came on the TV. It was very loud, despite the fact that those watching it were right in front of and practically underneath the TV. Not only do we not want to hear children or rugby whilst out for a meal, we don't want to listen to the foul language that goes with it! Easy enough to resolve - put in a door! We did highlight this with the server. We would go back for a meal, but in the other restaurant room and not when the rugby is on! (PS - we love rugby, but not when we're out!!)

We stumbled upon this place when the restaurant we wanted to go to was full. Oh man... we were so lucky! This place was fantastic, great food, excellent service, reasonably priced and perfect ambience. The four of us all ordered the Sunday roast. It was a treat. Fabulous Friday night out - v welcoming and attentive staff and service, the food was stunning. We devoured the starters (humous and squid). The pork belly was too die for with perfect crackling and my husband said it was one of the best pies he had ever tasted.

Just returned from a wonderful meal for my wife's birthday. I had the steak and ale pie and wife had the seafood platter from the specials board, both were absolutely fantastic and very good portion sizes, leaving us both very full! Fantastic staff made the evening even better, can't wait to go back.

Outstanding example of a community revived pub/restaurant. Two large bars, a smart patio and covered area. Food is well above the average pub fare (with a high proportion of gluten free meals). Good real ale. Excellent all round.

I came for lunch with two grandchildren and my son. I opted for bouillabaisse. Maybe expensive for lunch but really good. Salmon, Cod, prawns, mussels in a tomato and onion stew with some roast potatoes. Very filling and very good. My son also went for paella which was also filling. The two grandsons ate from the adult menu but still managed a pudding. Sticky toffee. One with ice cream and the other with custard. I have been here several times and so far never been disappointed.
