Entering the room, there was a strong smell in the bathroom/toilet. After cleaning the smell reduced. I believe that the smell may be due as this was a single room and not used much. The smell disappeared during my stay. I suggest that even when not used, the toilet is flushed daily by housekeeping. In the centre of town with parking and friendly staff.

We had a fabulous stay and will definitely be back! The breakfasts were lovely and the staff so friendly. The rooms could probably do with better sound-proofing as there was a lot of noise from other people's showers etc but appreciate not always possible in an older building.

Only popped in for the carvery as heard quite good things about it. Enjoyed it but.... This is supposed to be a traditional carvery, something very British but the roast potatoes were cooked in Garlic which to members of my party are totally disgusting. Garlic has no place in traditional English food. The rest of the vegetables were lovely though. I did however find that the person serving the meat cut it way too thin which left me wanting more, unnecessarily stingy I thought compared to other carvery's, as the meats themselves where very nice. The staff where very friendly and efficient the surroundings and ambience not so good. Could do with some improvements.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Bury staying here. Great location and lots of character. Rooms were well equipped and lovely and clean - great shower and lovely large white soft towels - always a bonus! Good breakfast and had the smoked haddock mac and cheese for dinner which was superb! All of the staff were friendly and welcoming. Definitely happy to stay again and recommend to friends.

Welcome by guy on reception was excellent. Room was disappointing in size. Plus the toilet seat was not staying up. Side ways shower not up to standard expected. Breakfast female staff. Less than friendly, disinterested, failed to ask clearly tea or coffee. No choice over white bread or brown. Pity.

Nice hotel, especially the lounge/dining room is very nice and atmospheric and the food is very good. There are also some negatives: a room on the street side is very noisy, the double bed is very narrow and in the bathroom there is only one low towel rack (annex heating) so that large towels drag on the floor. And there is not one hook to hang anything. Next time we'll take a room with twin beds at the back!

Great spot, 200 metres from the train station, friendly and helpful staff, nice bar area, room had everything I needed, and pretty good breakfast. Only complaint would be that the coffee machine in my room didn’t work and the filter coffee with the free breakfast wasn’t great, but this is a minor niggle with an otherwise great place. The elevator was pretty old-skool but I managed to get my massive luggage up in it so all good :)

The location of the Old Cannon Brewery was brilliant as was the service by all the staff that we encountered. Inside the brewery is very special with the visibility of the distillery area. However the rooms require re-decoration and repair especially the bathroom eg grouting in the shower etc. and soft furnishings (curtains) We loved the outdoor area but again the tables require re-painting to make the furniture more presentable but still keeping the rustic nature. Hope this all helps and we will certainly return again to enjoy a drink and meal one day soon.

The lift here is a joke, no way a wheelchair user could get I to or operate it as it'd very small with all most no light. In fact the hallway is very dark also. There are lights but there is the lowest wattage is used. Rooms are just about OK not the cleanest, cold no heat , bed on wheels it moved everywhere lol. No plugs or USB ports found one behind the TV but nothing else, despite being advertised on the Web site. Food very expensive £28 for a 10oz ribeye with few chips a bit of gravy with pepper init trying to pass off as pepper sauce, and then water cress folded in half and shoved on the plate. Chef seamed like he was drunk, shouting in the kitchen chasing a waitress round, he was dressed in shorts and t-shirt, kept going behind the bar helping him self to soft drinks. Overall it seams that it was busy in its heyday but that was a long time ago. Breakfast staff very moody and moaned about everything and everyone. I won't be back here there are lots hotel and b and b's in the area.

I had booked a single room at a good price for 2 nights in June, having previously stayed at this hotel one night in March. I was disappointed in the size and view of the to me rather pokey room on arrival. The receptionist responded immediately by offering me an alternative single room without an additional cost. I think I must have been given an upgraded room before I got there in March because it was much more spacious. The main reason I returned for a second stay was because the food is very good. It was so this time too. And I enjoyed one type of breakfast on Sunday, especially the good quality sausages and the healthier version on Monday with fresh fruit and natural yogurt and I liked the crunchy croissants. I also returned to have the carvery and I’m very glad I did. It was excellent even though it was 4 pm when I had it.

was in a lower room for the first time in 106. this overlooked the back of the hotel kitchen yard so at times is a noisy place. In the evening the freezer motors are quite loud too, and an annoying spot light on a PIR sensor comes on with regular timing. there were no curtains in the bedroom or bathroom either so if the windows were open everyone could see you As I was only staying for 2 night I did not ask to be moved but curtains really are needed in this room for privacy. the staff and particular the waitresses and waiters are a credit to the hotel and cannot be praised highly enough. they make you feel every welcome and cannot do enough for you during the stay. I am sure I would have been moved but the hotel was full the week I stayed. food is served in unusual ways and continue to surprise me. quality is excellent and more than enough portion sizes to fill you up. Pricing is on trend so don't expect much less than £50 per person if you eat a 3 course and have a glass or two with it. Great location for the centre and a very short walk to the train station makes this hotel a good choice for commuters and travellers via the rail network.

What a beautiful place, this was chosen by our daughter and new son in law for their wedding for both the ceremony and reception. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, and couldn't do enough to help. Service throughout was excellent, even down to bringing out a specially made vegetarian meal specifically for our younger daughter. All the food was to a high standard especially everyone raved about the mini burgers. The quick change of the rooms from ceremony to reception was done speedily and looked beautifully done, whilst the photos were being taken. The only criticism is they need to monitor the car park as not all the guests were able to park, due to people using it to visit the town etc.

A very nice pub with accommodation well positioned in Bury St. Edmunds. This was our third visit and had a lovely visit. We had a room over the bar area but it wasn't too noisy in late evening. Generally well maintained with odd loose floor board. Staff do their best and the food is very good, particularly breakfast. Unfortunately we fell foul of the parking ticket man on this occasion due to confusion over parking next to the pub during bank holidays, again staff and manager did best to assist. The pub is ideally situated at the end of a long walk over the trail, so went in for a couple beers and a bite to eat. Lovely cosy pub plenty of tables and a fireplace near the bar, where there’s also a wishing well with a pot of coins to use to make your wish came true, great for the kids and adults alike. Plenty of wind spirits and ales/beers on offer as well as a bar menu, separate to the main menu. The only “grip” we had was the menu offered a range of “paninis,” but what was served were 7”narrow French sticks, (the type you get in Lidl, not Sainsbury’s), done in a griddle press. Think we should have been told this before ordering.

Would not return here. We arrived for a large group booking of 9 instead of being showed to our table the waiter pointed to it and told us to go and sit down (they were not very busy by this point) they took ages to order our drinks and food, then tried to tell us that we needed more food and looked disgruntled when we didn’t accept the offer to double our starter order. They don’t tell you that you get complimentary bread they bring it after you’ve ordered so you don’t really need a starter. Very crafty! Then the main course came out before we’re finished our starters and the remainder of the starters were whisked away unfinished. Two out of the nine dinners were cold, we returned them to have them MICROWAVED bearing in mind they were both chicken mmm reheated chicken delightful. And made the yoghurt warm too! They obviously scraped the salad off then ‘threw’ it bs k on the plate. When it arrived back it was almost thrown down in front of us! I mean how dare we complain about our food being cold! Despite complaining neither dinner was removed from the bill. All in all a poor show all round.
