The British Queen Restaurant in Bromley

Absolutely loved the food here. Presented and cooked to perfection. The staff were welcoming and professional. Highly recommend the Beetroot terrine, the crudités and the cheese soufflé for starters. Definitely a gem in Locksbottom.

I recently moved to the area, so thought I would try the British Queen. I have to admit I am genuinely surprised how fantastic the food is. Generally it’s very good quality, cooking and presentation all spot on. I have only had one dud meal here, off the special board, so lesson learnt for me. Service is friendly, professional, and attentive. Would recommend this place.

Overpriced restaurant I had the lamb shank the vegetables that came with the dish were two new potatoes cut in half and half a carrot.

This is a very pleasant restaurant which obviously has a proper chef in the kitchen as the food was prepared perfectly and presented in a very attractive way. Someone obviously enjoys their job as there was great attention to detail. I had the Cheese Souffle to start with, which was excellent. Followed by the Steak with a Peppercorn Sauce, Chips and Salad. My friend enjoyed the quite unique flavours of the Beetroot terrine followed by a generous Pan-fried Chicken with Morels. We both had the Gorgeous Chocolate Delice for Desert. Its so nice to actually find a proper restaurant and to explore Locksbottom village, which I seldom visit. I'm sure I will be back.

The British Queen came highly recommended so I was very disappointed with my visit! My friends travelled from Hertfordshire to take me for a belated birthday lunch - a real treat as I am mainly housebound! The venue had a private function in the garden. We waited well over an hour for our food with no interim apology or offer of any bread & spread to nibble meanwhile. That would have been helpful for me as once ordered my meal I had taken my pre food insulin injection - obviously not expecting to wait that long! My party enjoyed their food, the hamburger was best value, 3 crab salads (very small salad) a chicken and a soufflé ! The soufflé was very cold inside and not at all hot anywhere else - it appeared to have missed its 2nd heating as even the dish was cold! The staff apologised but couldn’t offer anything else, even a bar snack, within a reasonable time scale - at least 20 mins. I couldn’t wait any longer and my friends bought me a sandwich from M&S going home - Happy Birthday! Probably understaffed for a Saturday lunch with a private party and waiting staff woefully undertrained in how to deal with a complaint! General opinion was ‘nice’ food but not good value for money….!

We have not visited for a while, but what a wonderful night. Food was incredible, as always the cheese souffle was delicious and the mains duck and pork tomahawk were delicious, bottle of Malbec was served at the perfect temperature. The server was also amazing.

Very dog friendly and really understanding staff with our nervous dog’s first visit to a pub. Great food and even greater service. Will definitely be coming back (if they’ll have us!).

First visit to the British Queen and enjoyed it. Good food and drink and the service was good as well. I will visit again.

If you are not hungry this is the place for you as potions are small...really small.... I had 3 courses and have an average appetite and I left hungry 😫......

Held my mums surprise 70th here last night, the food was outstanding and the staff were so helpful in organising a party of 16. Helped set up balloons and bought out the cake singing happy birthday. Great place, would highly recommend! Very good valuation for money for exceptional food.

We were a group of 5 and all chose different options....the menu had good choices, food was great and well presented. The staff were very pleasant and helpful Looking forward to our next visit.

Always a treat to visit The British Queen in Locksbottom. No reservation but managed to grab a table for some lunch. I have had the Cheese Soufflé at Braserie Blanc before, but very happy to see it in my local now! The duck and pork were perfectly cooked along with the crackling. But the Cheese Soufflé is just incredible. Finished off with the Pistachio Soufflé (note - this is more than twice the size of the Cheese Soufflé - make sure you have room!!) Am always a fan of all the food we have had at The British Queen. Great flavour combinations and always a lot of choice on the menus. What more can you ask for?

Went for lunch today to celebrate a birthday and the food was really nice and all the staff so pleasant, especially our waitress, didn't get her name but she had a lovely Scottish accent. A most enjoyable afternoon. Thanks you.

Had the Yorkshire Pudding special with roast beef. Very good portion size and vegetables crunchy and not overcooked. Beef nice and pink. Roast potatoes a bit floury and lacking much flavour. All sitting on a very good giant Yorkshire pudding. Gravy tasted as if it was from a packet. Beer was included in the price as it was a special deal but they wouldn't change mine to alcohol free despite my letting them know I was driving. I spilt my gravy and a different waitress was really good about it. Food came very quickly, nicely refurbished room and tastefully painted. Chairs very upright and not so comfortable. Thankfully no background music or if there was it wasn't loud. Other diners were talking at a reasonable volume so you don't have to shout and can have a decent conversation. Service was efficient but not particularly friendly.

We came for Boxing Day lunch with family. The service was good and the food was nice. We had a little problem with the wine, however this was resolved very well by Jen the manager, so whilst at the time it was frustrating, it was put right to our satisfaction and we're looking forward to our return visit.

Very bad sewage smell coming from a pipe in the wall. We Had a family birthday there and the food was good and staff friendly but the smell was nasty and worsening. When i mentioned to the staff we were told the restaurant was closing that evening for works. To be honest the restaurant should be closed and not expecting customers to eat with such an unpleasant putrid odour. Would not be eat there again.

It was our first here we celebrated our wedding anniversary on a Thursday night!!! Me and my husband had a lovely meal the steak was cooked to our perfection and the dessert was very special. The service we received from Jen the Manager was knowledgeable and kind and Isabella a lovely enthusiastic waitress was wonderful. We will come back again to try the Sunday roast! ☺️

The food is always very good , as is the service. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the British Queen, especially for sunday lunch.

Passed a delightful evening with another couple. The pressure was on because they are discerning foodies and go to many excellent restaurants! That said, The BQ did not disappoint and in fact it was positively delicious, classy and friendly and highly efficient service. I had the hake, it was superb, and overall one of the best gastropub meals I can remember anywhere in London. So, thank you to the BQ team for such a great experience. Honourable mention to their beer cellar staff, I had a pint of Timothy Taylor with my starter, which was kept perfectly - always a great sign. 10/10 and I’ll be back soon, no question.

We celebrated my birthday at The British Queen on the 26th December 2024. The service was great, the food was delicious, the drinks were of good quality and the ambience was fantastic. Thanks everyone who was on duty on that day.

We love going to the British Queen, especially for Sunday lunch. Our son eats for England and the optional extra portion of their divine beef makes his meal 110%! Wonderful food & staff.

Came here with my mum just before Christmas. Food and service was amazing. Would recommend if your around that area.

We had fabulous food and service and enjoyed our night out. What perturbed our entire party of 4 was the smell of drains whilst sitting at our table. We were told it was cauliflower cooking. At one time we could smell air freshner so they obviously took on board that a smell was invading the restaurant area. However the smell remained until closing time at 10 pm. So that spoilt the atmosphere. And could not possibly be cauliflower.

Had a lovely meal with wife. Impeccable service and food was delicious. Nice atmosphere for a Thursday afternoon lunch. ** Great place for a Boxing day Meal**

Good food, well presented, fast service and the price was good for the quality. Recommend the venison sausages and the pistachio souffle. Only criticism would be the portion size of the gnocchi was a bit small.

Great food nice place to take extended family.

I had the duck for my main course and it was absolutely delicious. The chefs really put a lot of effort into the food here, including presentation. All three courses including an apple and blackberry crumble were wonderful. The waitresses were all very friendly and professional too. I would definitely like to come back again.

We all had the roast and a desert and it was lovely. Definitely recommend it and will be back

First visit for us yesterday for a Sunday roast. We were impressed with the number of waiting staff and their warm welcome and excellent service. Food was great and the pub has a lovely atmosphere. Will visit again.

Wow, this place is a real find!!! First visit ever on a chilly Sunday and we had an extremely warm welcome and were greeted with the smell of a log fire. Our food was really first class. Best roast we have had in years. Special thanks to Evie for being a brilliant waitress, and looking after us all. We will definitely be back 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Excellent lunch in the dining room, much more restaurant than pub, the food was very well presented and to a high standard. Always disappointed by the real ale offering in the bar however, what about some Harveys best from Sussex rather than a brew from Cornwall.

Restaurant too noisy, can't have a conversation with friends tables to close together. Visited on 2 occasions no change on noise level. Won't be visiting again.

Very good food and full of regulars. For me the only drawback was that it was very noisy but I don't think anything can be done about that

We had a family meal for 8 here. All enjoyed it. The a la carte menu was excellent. I had the duck, which was the most perfectly cooked, tender pink duck I have had in a long time. Accompanying mushrooms, vegetables and Dauphinoise potatoes were delicious. Desserts were delicious and beautifully presentedz. Service was friendly, professional and efficient. This is a really good gastro-pub. Bar staff were excellent too. Recommended. Thank you!

Every time I've been there the food has been truly a la carte. I once ordered a burger for my daughter and, I don't know why, it was a little burnt. They immediately admitted their fault and asked us to replace it. My daughter being 5 years old didn't have the patience to wait for another so my wife and I shared with her. In the end, I received the bill without the burger. That didn't stop me from giving 5 stars and going back there. Recommend...😊

This Gastro Pub serves excellent food of the highest quality. It's worth paying just a little extra knowing that it has been cooked to order and not 'pinged'

Had a very good Sunday lunch Generous portions and imaginative vegetables. Huge Yorkshire pudding! Children portion is also quite big! We were celebrating my sister in laws birthday slightly in advance as I'll be away. The pudding selection is great and the pistachio souffle is fantastic! My only small gripe is that the 2 hour slot is a bit tight. Not my first visit. The wider menu is also very good.

We come here specifically for the Sunday Roast, best roast beef in town with lots of well cooked and tasty trimmings! My husband always asks for an extra portion of beef as it's that good! For me 4 slices of roast beef is more than enough. Nice ambience / decor and friendly staff always willing to help. Prices aren't cheap but the quality of the food is high that's why we keep coming back!

Went in for a light lunch but the choice was limited as all heavy meals. So decided on the burger. When told it would arrive pink I was very confident it would arrive pink ……. Presentation was nice but found both burgers grey and not pink at all and somewhat tasteless / lacking seasoning. Although we did have a lingering garlic taste after we had finished. Very disappointed :-( On a happy note the scotch egg starter was yummy as was the ice cream, also service was lovely. But a shame an establishment like this could not serve up a simple burger.

Great food in the restaurant and then a cool place for a drink after in the bar… bring back the crab pot!

Tried there lunch club menu but steak was tiny and over cooked the service was excellent but sorry it just wasn't worth the price.

We visited the British Queen at Locksbottom on a Saturday evening and had an excellent experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely excellent. Wonderfully presented and incredible flavours. We had a Virgin Experience voucher where you are limited to a sample menu of 3 options per course, but these options are the standout best sellers from the main menu, so this was not a problem. Good cocktail choice and options for alcohol free. Good veggie options. We will definitely go back.

Lovely food - especially starters and fish mains/specials. Dessert and wine list were less impressive but very hearty large desserts. Absolutely wonderful and professional young female waitress. Definitely a much better food offering and atmosphere than most gastropubs you come across - will def return.

Excellent brasserie. Good selection on menu and "Lunch Club" menu - a bit cheaper! Particularly good cheese souffle and hake.

This is our go to place for family meals as the food, staff and facilities are great. So went for father's day. Bit disappointed that as regulars we had to pay a deposit and only got a 2 hour slot but appreciate why. Food was excellent as always the lamb special was stunning. But please do not offer me a complimentary drink for father's day then add it to the bill! Simple error and glad I checked as I usually have no problems here. But will we be back? Of course!

Really lovely pub with lovely staff and excellent food and drink. Lack of parking is mildly frustrating but a star is lost due to the fact they won't accept cash payments. We are way past covid and the handling of money shouldn't even be a concern anymore. Not accepting money for payment by default is just baffling and hopefully it gets addressed.

Nice place and once a regular for Sunday lunch. The menu has now changed and the service is quite bad. I won't be returning.

The best Sunday roast beef I’ve eaten out.

We spent a lovely evening at The British Queen restaurant. The summer menu offered a variety of choices. I had the Pea and Broad Bean salad which was not only very pretty to look at but also delicious! My husband had the Gravadlax. For our main I had Trout and he had the Bream. For dessert I had an amazing Pistachio Souffle. He had the cheese. All in all the meal was delicious from start to finish, supported by excellent customer service from all the staff. I have lived in this area all my life and feel very lucky to have such a wide selection of good restaurants within walking distance of my home. I would highly recommend The British Queen up there as one of the best.

I haven't been back here since the change of menu and was greatly disappointed. My friend and I both had the pie and were both up last night with stomach pains. My friend had the fish dish which was only a child's portion and she had finished her meal in a minute. She left hungry. The restaurant left the front door open all night and we were cold throughout the meal. We were all greatly disappointed.

The food was excellent and we were well looked after throughout our time.

Poor quality food not as advertised, ordered a half chicken for a chicken leg. Would avoid much better places in the area

Had your Sunday lunch today. Was average. Think these were the worst roast potatoes I have ever had, barely cooked and very pale. Beef tender but not pink. Yorkies and vegetables really nice. Bottomless sides but waiting staff don't offer them, we were all finished our food before they came to our table and we had to ask for them. Desserts were good.

Associated with Raymond Blanc, this Brasserie offers fine cuisine that you actually enjoy eating not just looking at it, friendly service, and wonderful atmosphere. My wife and I, discovered it yesterday, we loved it, and we can’t wait to go back again and again.

Enjoyed classic Fish & Chips and Beef Pie at The British Queen. Both dishes were flavorful and satisfying. Bonus: Dog-friendly ambiance adds to the charm!

A warning to anyone wanting to use cash in this establishment as its Cashless ! Not very customer friendly in my opinion !! use cash or lose cash or in this case loose my business. Shame as its an OK pub & restaurant really 👎🏼.

Interesting place. Very busy, went for an evening meal with friends. Service was very good as was the food. Friendly staff and easy parking.

We went for lunch and Iam afraid to say for me there wasn’t loads of choice on the menu. What we did have tasted very average I had the burger it arrived overcooked and very dry and come with bacon and chesse but they didn’t melt the cheese on top of the burger which I had to send back (never serve a burger with a lump of unmelted cheese on it) My partner had steak and Ale pie with mash tasted good but pretty small in size and 2 table spoons of mash in a tiny bowl that a baby would eat out of with no veg it was a very small portion. Service was good and the pub is cozy would I go back NO not with food like that put in front of me.

A seriously good meal that's well worth the money. The ham terrine (pictured) and rib of pork were exquisite and the staff are so lovely. Will definitely come back

Not busy when I visited. Not the type of pub I would use as a local. But I’m sure that the food is great.

Amazing food. It just gets better and better. Newly refurbished and it looks great. Sitting by the fire certisnly keeps you warm. Dog was made a huge fuss over which makes it been more friendly.

We had the Christmas 3-course set lunch menu here on Saturday afternoon. All the food was excellent, I had sea bream which was so delicious. Others had the turkey roast or beef and they all loved it. The waiting staff were friendly and polite, initially a little slow with bringing water, wine, drinks etc, but otherwise generally attentive and easy-going with our large party. I would definitely recommend this lovely cozy pub, the food is really top notch.

It was very cold 🥶 there, the service was sooo slow 🐌, messy and dirty tables covered with crumbs, I wouldn't go back there at all, couldn't wait to get out of there 😳

We were given a virgin experience voucher which we used last night and we cannot rate this restaurant high enough .The food was superb and the staff were really friendly and attentive . I have a wine allergy and they were kind enough to go through the menu with me which no one has done before .The atmosphere was great and had a nice cosy feel .Will definately be returning .

We ate on a virgin experience and the menu offered was excellent and varied which isn't always the case for this kind of deal. The menu was interesting and well cooked. Very pleased.

Quality of food was outstanding!

Visited with a large group of family. The staff were all excellent, polite and swift. They took my gluten allergy seriously and announced each dish as gluten free which was really reassuring. The children’s meals were great and brilliant value. The place was spotless inside and so were the toilets. The roast beef was to die for and everyone enjoyed their meals. The only thing I’d say would give it 100% for me would be to get a bit extra on the roast dinner plate for gluten free, as you miss out on yorkies which looked great and cauliflower cheese. Or in a perfect world, could they make a GF version?! It’s so easy to substitute gluten free flour in cheese sauce and I make and free GF yorkies to use as and when. Otherwise I’d give this place top marks, excellent for a meal.

This is a wonderful place for a relaxed, quality, dinner, in a table lamp lit, William Morris - esque decorative style. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience with my 83 year old parents - who expect a high standard of service which is provided here in abundance - superb service, food, wine.

If you want to be judged this is the place to go. You have to ‘fit’ their clientele to be served. Absolutely disgusting. This comment is coming from a pub landlady whose landlord partner entered the pub and was told ‘not today mate’. We were actually contemplating eating here at some point but won’t be going back now if that’s how you treat customers. Be better!

Really gone downhill unfortunately. Used to be a go to place - went last night and service was very slow and unfriendly and food was okay but not worth the price. Cheese sauce for the soufflé was cold and very sparing, and mains were not memorable (when they eventually arrived!). Such a shame

Found menu a bit restrictive. However pork dish I ordered was delicious. Atmosphere a bit noisy difficult to have a conversation. Venue good, service good.. would go again.

We went to the British Queen for my husband’s birthday and really pleased we did. The best Sunday roast we can remember having - the beef was cooked perfectly, roast potatoes were tasty and crispy and lots of delicious vegetables. I’m dairy intolerant and the staff were really accommodating. Looking forward to coming back soon.

My friend and I visited last night and they had ran out of lots of food and wine options. Three of the starters we wanted weren’t available and four of the mains had also ran out. The waitress mistakenly gave us the wine list meant for staff- at the top was written ‘sell sell sell! Don’t sell based on food parings, base on price’. Many of the wines were also unavailable so it was a frustrating meal as we ended up ordering food and drink that we didn’t really want lol. We won’t be returning, which is a shame as this used to be a great pub!

Couldn't fault this place. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived, our waitress was attentive, efficient and helpful with menu choices. The food was exceptional. All in all a great lunch, thank you.

Lovely Sunday roast at this great pub. The food was excellent and the staff were so friendly and efficient. We sat in the bar and the dog was made very welcome. The roast beef was tender and it came with plenty of crispy potatoes, a good variety of vegetables and yorkshire pud. Pistachio soufflé was light and delicious. Very good value given the high standard of the food, staff and ambience.

The atmosphere and surroundings were good. The meals were partially very good as my meal was excellent but my companion was disappointed with the meal provided. The drinks/food was reasonably priced but the service could do with some improvement. We will go again but reconsider our meal options.

Excellent Sunday lunch with excellent service. Cheese soufflés still good as always. Roast beef and roast chicken (both served with Yorkshire puddings) much appreciated by our Australian visitors.
