The Brig and Barrel in East Lothian

What an amazing find! Super friendly and kind staff immediately on arrival and fresh, tasty, quality food! Could have picked a number of dishes off the menu (all sounded delicious), but we opted for a Mexican Burger and Philly Steak Sandwich. Both were soooo good. To top it all, they are super dog friendly, which was the icing on the cake of us! Will definitely be back again very soon.

First time in Dunbar and we came across this little gem of a pub & restaurant . Straight away as with many previous reviews by others it was clear the staff were genuinely welcoming and friendly . We were offered a table inside or out and being a lovely evening we opted for the outside dining area .The quality of the food we cannot praise highly enough and it is obvious that it’s home made from scratch, so big five star rating for the chefs. I could go on with a breakdown of our meal but the only thing I will say is if you are near the Dunbar area then make the detour to this gem of a find . Finally praise for our waitress Andi for her friendly welcome and professional service throughout our visit - again five star !

Great Dog friendly family pub. I pre booked and they accommodated a time change. We were in the sheltered garden area which was perfect. The food was great, the staff attentive and overall a great meal out. Would highly recommend.

We called in here on a visit to Dunbar as the visitor book at our accommodation had several mentions. So pleased we did as it was fabulous. The staff are really friendly and welcoming and got the 6 of us sat down quickly. It’s only a small pub so we were lucky to get a table. We were spoilt for choice with the menu. It’s a standard solid pub menu with good variety. The food we each ordered was exceptional and you can tell it’s properly home made unlike a chain. The staff again were very nice indeed throughout. I bet they get a lot of praise for the food. Fabulous, would make a beeline for the place if I was in Dunbar again. Additionally the whole place was clean and tidy and nicely decorated/lit

Arrived by bicycle, cycling the John Muir way and NCN route 76. We arrived just as they were opening for the day. We were greeted with a lovely, cheery and very welcoming attitude. Immediately we were directed to the bike racks in the beer garden which were secluded and secure - room for at least 10 bikes. We sat in a newly refurbished beer garden with enclosed booths, which were very cosy. The service was excellent and friendly throughout. The food was a real delight - a great pub menu, with a Canadian feel (it was very interesting to see. When our food arrived it was amazing - it looked so fresh, prepared with real care and clearly all prepared from the base ingredients with nothing pre made or from frozen. The taste was absolutely superb. Cask ales & cocktails were available - so why not - the Bloody Mary was amazing. This place has won, or been shortlisted for a number of awards over the last few years, including some Covid years ago- you can see why. The effort put into the hospitality and the food will speak for itself - go check it out

Lovely dog-friendly bar and restaurant. Super efficient service especially by Christy who went the extra mile. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. We had beef nachos to start and then steak pie and fish pie. All were excellent. Would definitely recommend.

A warm welcome greeted us on arrival, although we had not booked in a busy Friday evening. We were fortunate to get a table in the beer garden, the perfect place to chill in a Friday night. Superb servers with a vast menu knowledge, ensured we ordered for all of our taste buds. Although busy, food was served in a good time and wow, we were not disappointed. Cullen Skink, fried Pickles and haggis pakora between us to start, blew our taste buds wide open. Fish pie and Steak for main course with a special mention for the slow cooked steak, melt in your mouth stuff. A must visit if you in the area, thank you to all the team for making our evening so enjoyable.

We were looking for a pub / restaurant that was dog friendly and served good food. My wife went in to see if there was a table as we hadn't pre-booked the staff managed to fit us in. The food was some of if not the best food we've had in a pub although I would call it a restaurant as the quality of the food and service and professional conduct if the staff was outstanding, we couldn't fault it. If we are up near Dunbar in the future we will visit again. Thank You ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐😁

Visited The Brig and Barrel today with husband and 7 month old cocker spaniel puppy. Both the husband and the dog were very welcome inside the pub ;-) Infact, there were many other dogs (and husbands) in pub at same time. The staff were very friendly and attentive and even brought our pup a bowl of fresh water. We had the steak pie which was very tasty. Not the cheapest place for lunch, the steak pie was about £16.50 but it was lovely. Very near to the sands at Bellhaven Bay, where we went for a dog walk before lunch.

Service really friendly and attentive! Looked after us really well. Food was also delicious, and not a long wait even though it was a busy saturday night! Mixed selection ordered throughout the table, I had the pork belly which was amazing! Burgers, scampi and ribs also went down a treat. Only downside was the small dessert offerings but what was on the menu was tasty! Fair prices and would definitely reccomend!

Lunch today 18/11/23 at the Brig & Barrel. Can recommend everything we chose. Starter: Trio of stovies, warm goats cheese. Main: Belly pork, fish pie. 😋 Service from the staff was efficient and friendly. The food tasty and filling. Drinks: A decent pint. 5* gem of a pub. Lovely food as always - I will never get bored of Mike's pickles. Staff are always so friendly and helpful.

We ate here twice last Wednesday and Thursday evening. Very busy so make sure you book in advance. Service at bar was very friendly and efficient. Food came quite quickly after ordering. Prices are a little more than other Gastrointestinal pubs. Worth it for the quality of the food. Very good selection of drinks too.

A nice looking pub, really close to Belhaven Bay and the camp site there. Inside is all wooden interiors and is very attractive. The staff are delightful and are especially kind to dogs, as well as people! The food was great - we even managed 3 courses, with a shared haggis pakora starter, fab Sunday beef brisket lunch, and show-stopping ice cream, coffee and shot creations for desserts. We'll worth a visit!

Really liked this pub-full of character inside with a great beer garden at the back. We visited for an early dinner on Monday 4th September and booked one of the covered booths in the beer garden. We both really enjoyed our burgers (the Mexican and pork & chorizo). Only constructive point I would suggest is to add a dressing on the salad which would make all the difference. Staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. Nice sunny early evening so great to enjoy the beer garden with a few cold ciders. Great meal in a great pub with great staff! Thoroughly recommend 👍

Recommended so went for an impromptu lunch ! As vegetarians - very well catered for - veggie chilli with rice and three dips to accompany the nachos ! Other fish was a cauliflower burger with chilli jam and garlic Mayo with apple and celery coleslaw ! A delight ! Service was excellent - every waitress was charming and helpful !

We were at the beach for the day. On the way decided to have dinner in Dunbar, last minute, so no bookings. We walked in and were told that they were fully booked. Outside, they weren't sure if anyone would be leaving. As we walked out and got in our car, one of the waitresses came running after us outside to stop us to say a table just became available! Such great, thoughtful service. The evening was great onwards. Food was delicious and the service excellent. Others can really learn from this great wait staff. They are also dog friendly! We will be back for sure!

Empty afternoon visit to this pub which has a good rep. Couldn’t get served. Waited 15 mins while a rude middle aged blonde woman ignored me. Eventually she asked “have you been served?” and then continued to ignore me for another 10 mins. Obvs this has tropic is a bit up itself. The young staff were lovely but this woman (owner? Landlady?) needs some hospitality training.

I only popped in for a pint of Guinness and a wee rest. I was greeted in a really sincere way. The Guinness was poured correctly. I’ll have to return for a bit to eat as the menu looks über tempting and, I have to say, cracking value for money. This truly heartwarming pub has a very large seated garden out back in addition to the coziest and very spacey interior. 10/10 A1+ Highly recommended!

We visited the other evening as Mops,Pops, 2 granddaughters and dog. I rang earlier in the day to book a table and the young lady was very friendly and helpful. The welcome on arrival was like we were old friends. The food was fabulous only matched by the service. The goodbye was as friendly as the welcome. You certainly have the best staff. We were staying at the Camping and Caravannig site in Dunbar and had fortunately had the foresight to advance book Sunday lunch a couple of weeks before. This is a justifiably popular location. Great food and warm hospitality. Would visit again if in the area.
