Lovely restaurant in picturesque setting. Service was good and staff very pleasant. Overall experience was good. What let it down was the steak pie. The pastry was very soft and quite soggy as if it had been heated in a microwave. Such a pity.

My recent visit to this restaurant was extremely disappointing. Despite being regular diners who eat out two or three times a week, this was the first time we were completely ignored while waiting to be seated. We stood at the counter for what must have been 10 to 15 minutes without so much as a “hello” or “we’ll be with you shortly.” It was as if we were invisible. Once we were finally seated, the poor service continued. We waited another 10 to 15 minutes before anyone even offered us a drink. By this point, we had already decided to just order one course and leave as quickly as possible, which in hindsight, we should have done when we first arrived. The food, unfortunately, was as disappointing as the service. My wife’s duck was cold and tasteless, and the beetroot tasted as if it had been sitting around for weeks. My burger, which was advertised as homemade, was clearly a pre-made, frozen patty—definitely not what you expect from a place that claims to serve quality food. The only redeeming factor were the chips, which were decent, but that’s not saying much considering the rest of the meal. Overall, the entire experience was dreadful, from start to finish. We won’t be returning, and I would advise others to think twice before dining here.

We visited for some food before the Father's Day rush. Restaurant was nicely quiet and staff friendly as always. Ordered and the place slowly filled up, must have arrived just at the right time. Food arrived, quality was very good, but unfortunately part way through eating we realised order was wrong, I was served an item half the price of the item I had ordered - didn't realise until we saw others with the same item (as waiting staff confirm verbally what they are putting in front of you) - I did think a full Scottish without any black pudding or haggis, tomato/mushroom etc and only a few items was unusual, but we'd never eaten from this menu before. Staff were busy moving tables ahead of a busy lunch service and we mentioned to them when they became free and they offered to provide the missing items but everyone else in the party had finished eating by that point, so instead we had the bill altered to the item that had been provided. 10% service charge added to the bill - but it seems to be the trend in Edinburgh now. Not our first trip to the Bridge Inn but our first on the breakfast menu and the first time we've had any issues with orders. We'll probably be back for the excellent Sunday roast next time. Very scenic spot to enjoy your food.

The Bridge Inn is located on the outskirts of Edinburgh, near the airport and alongside the Union Canal. There is free car parking at the site and accommodation is available in 4 bedrooms above the premises (although the owners do offer a complimentary shuttle bus on Friday & Saturday nights to/from your home within a 5 mile radius of the Inn). Some considerations when dining here are that unless you reserve a table in advance you will likely be sitting in the bar or outside - that’s if you get a table at all. If you are attracted to the bistro surroundings there is a need to book. Also a 10% “discretionary” service charge is automatically added to all orders in excess of £10. This applies regardless of where you are seated - it’s the same menu, same food and same prices throughout the Inn. If you notice the service charge, in very small print at the base of the menu, customers have an option to request that staff remove this from the bill. Not a particularly attractive customer option. Seems the idea of tipping in a world of “cashless payments” has meant staff are not otherwise properly appreciated. We didn’t know about the service charge until reflecting on the cost a few days later and enlarging a photo we had of the menu. We thought the service we encountered had been pleasant, as expected, but fairly limited in a bar setting. We got our own drinks from the bar, ordered and paid at the bar and staff had put our plates on the table when the food was ready. There was nothing discretionary about the service charge in our case - the receipt was not itemised and we were oblivious that 10% had been applied. To be discretionary customers should at least have the opportunity to exercise some discretion. We have previously eaten at The Bridge Inn - pre the introduction of this tipping arrangement - and had always thought the bistro surroundings, service and food perhaps justified the higher than average pub prices. However the bar here is typical of many others and doesn’t. That said, the food was very good. For mains my wife and I both ordered Sea Bream served with Shetland mussels, samphire, diced potatoes, dill veloute and chilli oil (£24.95 p.p.). The fish was nicely cooked and the combined flavours delicious. For dessert we both had Sticky toffee pudding (£8.95 p.p.) which was served with ice cream and also met with our approval. By the time we had added a small glass of sauvignon blanc, an Edinburgh Gin & tonic and a couple of coffees (with tablet) our bill for lunch amounted to just over £95 - split on visits to the bar between mains & drinks and desserts & coffee…plus service charges. Setting aside the large dogs lying on the floor near us and smoke drifting in from the outside doorway as customers got their nicotine fix what was our overall impression? The food left a very pleasant taste in the mouth, the surreptitious addition of service charges less so.

As for the rest of meal was good but well over priced. Asked in the bar for 2 glasses of rose wine £19.40 thought we were drinking in George Street in Edinburgh not in a small village pub/restaurant. Very disappointed. We had heard good things about this place. Very noisy atmosphere; basically a crowded pub. The food is very “artistic”, which we found to mean small portions and inflated prices. I had to send my hake back as it was undercooked; second portion arrived, smaller but still undercooked. Tiny amounts of vegetables and dots of things on the plates. We also felt very rushed indeed; three courses and we were out within a hour and a half! For the price we paid we could have enjoyed much better food and a much better atmosphere elsewhere. Very sad, as this was my birthday! One or two highlights: our waitress was very friendly and polite, so thank you to her. Also - the cocktails were good; we would never come back for dinner, but we would come back for cocktails on a sunny day, sitting outside by the canal.

My wife and I went to The Bridge Inn after a very tiring day walking around Edinburgh during The Fringe - it is always a good sign when, on arrival, the car park is full! On arrival, we were greeted in the most friendly and enthusiastic way by the staff and were immediately made to feel at home. A table was not available straight away but we were served with drinks while a table was prepared quickly, despite the restaurant being almost full - the barman signposting, in a very friendly manner, exactly what he was doing. The menu is fairly simple but with a lot of variety and choice - it caters for pretty much any taste and we were shown to our table quickly and introduced to our waiter who again, welcomed us. We chose a simple steak for myself and a pea risotto for my wife. Being from a retail background, it is always the little things that I look for when I go to a restaurant. Can they do the simple things well? How do they really treat their customers? Are they genuinely interested or just paying lip service? Okay .....Firstly, I would go as far as saying the sirloin steak that I chose was quite possibly the best prepared, best cooked, piece of steak that I have had in a very long while. It is very easy to ruin a good piece of meat but the chef here shows exactly how it should be done - perfectly cooked to my preference. My wife's risotto was also extremely flavoursome and again very well prepared and overall all, the food was excellent in every way. The little things that made our evening just that bit special was the welcome on arrival, the attentiveness of the waiting staff, the willingness of the manager and the chef to come and speak with us and the overall feeling that nothing was too much trouble - even helping us to sort out a taxi when our own failed to turn up. In the current times where many establishments are struggling following COVID, it was a pleasure to see a restaurant that puts its customers experience to the forefront of everything it does and understands the importance of true customer service. I wouldn't usually bother to review a restaurant as most really don't understand this and therefore would end up with a 'it was okay' comment but I felt everybody at The Bridge really understands and encompasses the whole ethos of customer service and therefore deserved a little recognition. To the owners of this small chain of inns, your team at The bridge are an absolute credit to you and provided us with the perfect end to our day in Edinburgh. Thank you guys!

Highly recommend the caesar salad (loved the anchovies), flat iron steak (perfectly cooked), and bangers & mash (the mash was especially good!), and the french martini was delightful. My family and I have visited this restaurant many times and always with good food and service. Unfortunately on my last visit (at the end of October) I was disappointed with everything. There was only my self and my adult daughter visiting and we were seated at a very small table between two families with lots of children (nothing wrong with children) I have grandchildren of my own. One family left and it was at least 40 minutes before the table was cleared. Service was not too good and the choice of menu was abysmal. Three main course dishes of which two where sold out, so why tell us that the special of the day was sold out when we tried to order it. Dessert choice was the same, sold out!!! I left, feeling very disappointed and will not be returning there again (if ever) for some time. One of the options we were offered was a burger (this is a restaurant) I could have gone down the road to McD's for a burger.

One thing I did notice was the swing doors out to the garden were very heavy with one child catching their fingers and another toddler, being carried , suffering a bumped head with the door swinging open on approach to leaving the restaurant. This was our third visit in the last few years but don’t think will be back again.

Visited at end of July. Bridge Inn is a lovely place in a beautiful location. Have been a handful of times in the past and the food is lovely. On this occasion we were in for lunch but a couple of wee things annoyed me. I think when you are paying slightly more for your food you should also expect good all round service. My husband ordered a main course and beer and I ordered a cullen skink and a coke. The waitress asked if I would like a larger soup so that it was more like a main course. I thought it was a good idea so said yes. The drinks arrived and the waitress spilled mine when placing it down. She just apologised but didnt wipe up the spillage. We waited a good 35 minutes for the food to arrive and I know it can take time when cooking from fresh so sort of accepted that. When my soup arrived, it had been sloshed about and had nearly overflowed, messing up the rim of the soup plate which didn't look nice. It was more watery than I'd have expected. I tried it to find it was rather cool and my bread hadnt arrived with it at the time either. When we eventually managed to attract the waitress's attention to ask for it to be heated, she said she'd take it back and also said that I would definitely be getting bread. When it arrived back, I noticed that it didnt look like the same soup. The plate was cleaner.... no sloshing marks and the soup was much thicker but far less of it in the plate! I didnt think more about it but just ate it but I have to say it was very tastey... a really nice cullen skink. We were short of time so had to make tracks. We paid the waitress who was very friendly and chatty, then we left.It was later in the day when I asked my husband how much the soup was and it had cost £13!I was shocked at this and wondered if the mistake had happened when the soup was returned and had been replaced by a starter sized portion. It was too late to do anything but if I go again, I'll be more aware next time but it's the little things that spoil the experience, especially when you are paying a bit more than average.

I ordered a large portion of fish and chips , my wife a steak. Before I start to express my disappointment I must admit the food served was exceptionally good unfortunately the ridiculous portion size for the prices charged was not. We ordered a desert probably because we were still hungry and were then presented with balls of ice cream which resembled quails eggs, even our server had the grace to look embarrassed. So if you are looking for a nice restaurant in a canal setting representing good value for money then the Bridge Inn is not for you,

We came here for a family lunch. Staff friendly and helpful. Food of a high quality. We had fish and chips and the fish cakes. Last time we were here we sat inside but this time we decided to go for an outside table. Felt comfortable with how staff are dealing with things under covid. I am sure we will be back again fairly soon.

We had a fantastic meal at the Bridge Inn with family. Ciara was attentive and friendly. The restaurant has good systems in place to deal with Covid, including a one way toilet system which my brother-in-law struggled with (haha). We all thoroughly enjoyed the food. More cream with the sticky toffee please! Would definitely come back - thank you.

Husband, who usually leaves me to the travel plans, found this place on the internet and what a find it was! We needed a place to stay for one night upon arrival at Edinburgh Airport and before driving to the west coast and the Bridge Inn exceeded our expectations. From the minute we walked through the door, we felt at home and we loved our comfortable room with fabulous bathroom. Dined in the restaurant that evening after enjoying an aperitif in the cosy bar and the food was excellent as was breakfast the following morning. Everyone we encountered was very pleasant and friendly and for sure if we find ourselves in the area on another occasion, we will return to the Bridge Inn. Delightful location within easy reach of the airport and adjacent to the Union Canal which has an interesting history.

My husband and I stayed at the Bridge Inn for 5 days in September 2019. We were attending a wedding in the area and chose the hotel because its in a quiet and beautiful country setting and we were looking for a more personal experience instead of a large hotel. We wanted to be close to Edinburgh (the tram station is a 10 minute drive.) And, we wanted to be able to easily drive to other tourist sites in the area. We looked at the photos on line and it all looked so beautiful and romantic. We also looked at the menu and the reviews and decided it would be the place for us. There were a lot of expectations and we were not disappointed. We arrived late in the afternoon and were welcomed and made to feel at home by the staff. We settled in the bar area and struck up some good conversation with the bartender and one of the locals. We ate at the Inn's restaurant several times and the food was outstanding. They are recommended by Michelin and we learned that they are very particular about where they source all their ingredients. Lots of organic and locally grown food here and it tastes very fresh and is very skillfully prepared. The soups and salads were beyond good and my husband enjoyed all of his meals too. A great breakfast came with our room. The pancakes and maple syrup, fresh pressed apple juice, and ham were out of this world. Our room was cozy and comfy -- just what we needed after a long day of sightseeing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend this place.

Pros:-We ate at lunchtime from the main menu on a Saturday. It was busy but not too busy. We never had a booking although got the impression we arrived at the right time to be accepted.-Friendly attentive service.-Scollop starter as expected, pigeon starter was tastier than it looked. Venison main was a mixed review, the meat itself was just right with a lovely gravy.-Has a kind of tea room feel to it however It does has an spacious and fresh vibe as well. -Situated next to a canal if you want to go for a wander.Cons:-Diffrent sized chairs, I was too high and towering over my meal and had to get this swapped although staff were fine with this.-cheesecake texture was rubbery, lacked taste and presentation although edible.-pigeon starter presentation messy.-venison meat bonbon was dry and oyster mushrooms unpleasant texture.-Passion fruit martini not to my liking, a little harsh, needs to be softer/fruitier. I find it varies depending on where you go. *I wanted to give 3* but got the impression they can do better and a few small issues which can easily be fixed so I would return.

What a great experience we had over 4 days/nights at this lovely Inn in the quiet village of Ratho. (a few miles from the airport with easy access to Edinburgh via tram station just a few miles away) We were greeted warmly upon arrival and efficiently checked in to The Boddington room overlooking scenic and historic Union Canal. Rooms have everything you need and you can’t beat living over the excellent bar and dining that is just below. Breakfast is cooked to order and included in your rate and the service and the breakfast food are excellent. (Full Scottish breakfast is excellent as is the pancake and bacon breakfast.....fresh croissants are incredible) Complements to the chef and the entire cooking staff for doing an outstanding job. For four days there was no need to dine anywhere else. Everything we ate was excellent! (Highly recommend the Pie of the day, Mac and cheese, burgers and the pan seared sea trout) There is a lot of history about Union Canal if you read the little postcard history book left in your room. Excellent walk in both directions along the canal. Many thanks to the entire staff for a wonderful experience, including excellent service by everyone including Iona, Amanda, Taylor and Emma. Thank you Emma Sanderson for recommending The Bridge Inn and we look forward to our next visit!

Outside, sat in the blazing sun. The pub is very smart and right next to the canal. We just beat the lunchtime rush. All tables taken but plenty of room inside. Its maybe a 20 minute drive from the middle of Edinburgh but worth a look. Very popular with dog owners and cyclists. Wouldn't mind living in the house on the other side of the canal.

The most uncomfortable seats! I paid £80, but it was definitely not worth it. Even if you request a comfortable seat, they won’t let you sit at a decent table. We were crammed in, sitting too close to other people. The food wasn’t good either. Save your money and go somewhere better than this place

Our first stop in Edinburgh was the elephant cafe . Upon arrival at the cafe we were totally surprised that it is opened and that there was no queue . Waited excitedly to be seated and a young lady ushered us to a lovely window seats overlooking the street. Just as we were getting ourselves comfortable, another lady by the name Samiha came by and questioned “who gave you the table “ Honestly we were quite taken aback. Being a well travelled person of my age this was totally not acceptable and plain rude. The second episode was when I went to the cashier to ask if I should order at the counter , the same staff exaggeratedly commented in Spanish (I think) that I was impatient. The episode didn’t end here. Later the same lady, Samiha, found out that I was trying to get her name. She came back and challenged me lecturing me throughout that cafe is very “crowded” ; customers need to wait to be seated. The whole issue is we were ushered to the seats by the window! We did not just barged in! Honestly this kind of behaviour is totally not acceptable . To my worst horror i later found out she is the supervisor of the cafe ! A junior staff who had witnessed all this and was so sweet that she apologised profusely on behalf of the rude supervisor for my bad experience! Fine cafe but be warned of ill mannered supervisor !
