We were on a canal holiday and this place had been recommended by one of the boatyard staff. The food was as described – good honest food and the quantities and value were really good. The lounge area was like stepping back into the 1970’s and lost this place a star for its lack of ambience. Overall good honest value for money.

My Husband, Myself and our Teenage Twin Daughters went here for dinner. Steak pie was ok, nothing special. The frozen veg is a big disappointment for me, would be much better with fresh veg. My Daughter had a chicken breast with packet gravy poured over it, again, surely it’s not difficult and more professional for a chef or cook to make home made gravy and fresh veg??? Not a hard chore! The owner sat in the next booth to us not giving a hoot what was going on round about. The menus need upgrading as well, falling apart and very tacky.

What it lacks in style and ambience - you would be forgiven for thinking you were in the office canteen! It more than makes up for in service and food. Friendly staff, good menu choice, child friendly and the Steak Pie, which came recommended, was absolutely delicious. Make sure you enter the premises hungry - the portions are generous! Next time I want steak pie, I know where to come. Booking wasn't necessary on our visit but it was busy.

I took my mum here for mother's Day. We waited about ten minutes to be asked if we wanted a drink. We then waited another ten to order our food. I had the steak pie and my mum had the fish. Both meals were very good. Our empty plates sat on the table for twenty minutes before I had to get up and flag down the waitress to order desert. To summarise, the food was good, the staff were friendly but the service was very poor hence only three score.

Should really have guessed how bad it was going to be when we arrived here. We were the only diners. An awful, permeating stale chip fat smell hardly whets the appetite either. We both ordered chicken curry with rice and chips 5 minutes later, we were advised by the cook that she only had one portion of rice. If we both wanted rice it would take 20 to 30 minutes. My husband said I could have the rice Much microwave pinging later, we were presented with our dinner For a restaurant that advertises home cooked food , this was a sloppy, curry granules excuse of a meal. The curry sauce tasted vile. Add water and stir, bung in some cooked chicken affair. Complete with stodgy rice and frozen chips. I attempted to eat it. My husband had a couple of mouthfuls We decided to leave and get a chippy I went to the bar to pay After a lengthy wait the waitress arrived I said it was the worst meal we had ever had She said, what? I repeated it, slightly louder (the bar area next door was noisy) She said, don’t shout at me. Charming! What was wrong with it, she said Everything, I replied I paid £17.95 This included a drink each I’d suggest cooking proper food, not using curry sauce mix from Bookers, getting rid of the chip pong and charging prices that pays them a wage. It’s obvious they can’t be bothered whether the food is good or not Some customer training wouldn’t go amiss either

Plenty of food on your plate but place smells heavily of fried food. Meals were OK but everything just tasted like it had been fried.

So much about here is really good but a few things let it down. Most of the staff are lovely but there is one lady who is rude and patronising. Has a terrible habit of scowling, being negative and unhelpful and then calls you “hunny”. Service can be slow and food can take a while when busy but everything is cooked to order and delicious when it arrives. Toilets are tiny and wash hand basins difficult to use. On the whole well worth a visit and fingers crossed that one of the lovely friendly staff members serves you.

Usually very good, but food was cold. Chips had clearly been sitting for a while. Macaroni was cold too.

I have been several times before and it has always been fantastic food. With the current movement restrictions in place they have just delivered to me, amazing. Great service, food is still warm from being made fresh today. Cannot say enough how good it is!

After 4 family members completed a charity run we headed to Beancross for lunch. We phoned ahead and booked for 13. 10 adults and 3 children. When we arrived we were impressed by the restaurant. We waited a while to be shown to our table while staff were chatting. Once seated we waited a while to be brought menus that were grubby and had seen better days. It took ages to come and take our drinks orders and even longer to bring them. Glasses were dirty and we requested they were changed. We then waited another 15 mins before our food order was taken. I ordered a sandwich and requested brown bread. I was told they only had white but our waiter would ask the chef. Another long wait until the food arrived. Some of our party had also ordered sandwiches and were served brown bread while I'd requested brown and was given white. When I queried the response was "you can swap'. Not easy when others had started eating. The white bread was stale. The inside of the sandwich, tuna and cucumber hadn't been buttered and the little tuna on it was in the middle leaving nothing around the edge of the sandwich. There were also a few wrong orders which had to be sent back. No one enquired while we were eating if the food was ok. No one came over when we'd finished eating to clear the table and ask if we wanted desserts or more drinks. We even had to chase the bill. The service was awful. A young team of waiting staff who were more interested in chatting than serving customers. The restaurant wasn't very busy so that probably says a lot about the place. We spoke to a waiter when leaving and told him how disappointed we were. He said he'd pass this on. Beancross you need to up your game. Training for staff would be a good starting point. My advice avoid at all costs.

Very good quality food. A bit pricey but worth it. The steak and fish and chips are both amazing. Their homemade sauces are all really nice. Will come back!!
