Chop & Ale House in Falkirk

I did not enjoy the experience. I complained ( perhaps incorrectly) that my steak was undercooked. I was embarrassed by the experience. I won’t be back. Very poor hospitality.

I recently had the experience of dining in the chop and ale house in October and my partner and I both had the t-bone steak which at the time seemed lovely even though we asked for medium to well done it was more medium than done, but sadly since this we've both suffered a a fortnight of stomach cramps and definitely mild food poisoning plus my partner whom is a qualified nurse for over thirty years definitely enjoyed the champany experience staying over night But the meal has made her think twice about returning again as myself whom dined in the main restaurant precovid so in all we felt very disappointed and let down.

Very good quality food. A bit pricey but worth it. The steak and fish and chips are both amazing. Their homemade sauces are all really nice. Will come back!!

Slight differences in the food from previous visits in years past. Top class burger, chips very good although not as good as before the closure. Meringue dessert nice, just not as good as prior to closure a couple of years back, smaller portion. Great feed and best burgers around.

Really lovely and cozy atmosphere. Food and wine delicious. Slow cook pork starter is to die for 😋 will defo be back.

Steak is the best I’ve ever tasted. Miss the bread and coleslaw like they used to get but you cannot fault the steaks and service. 1st class.

Not sure why it comes up as "Chop & Ale House" as I was in Champanys. Anyway if you like good steak this is about the best I've encountered in a long time. It's an easy enough place to find with enough parking provided. Service was good and friendly. Recommended 😋

I have dined here many times and never had a negative experience at champney. I have had steak at restaurants up and down the UK and the champney will not be beaten. I look forward to eating here again and again. First class everytime.

Really loved this place, the food was excellent quality, the portion size was huge. The service and atmosphere was also very good. The restaurant does have a very atmospheric internal dining area, but also had some out door spaces that looked good as well. My recommendation is try the chips, the kitchen has them tasting like chip shop chips, much better than your usual restaurant chip, and the fillet tails. Definitely be back and would highly recommend to others

Absolutely fantastic . Our waiter's were fantastic . One Had a laugh at my expense but not offensive . The lady that owned the place shook our hands when leaving and thanked us for our custom . Will be back ASAP . Thanks for a lovely night !!!!

Food was excellent, the atmosphere was amazing, loats of character and Mrs D, the owner was lovely and passionate about making sure customer's experience was excellent. Will absolutely recommend this place for lunch or dining.

Pretty good all around. I had a 500 gram ribeye to myself. The only thing I could complain about is that there was an excess of charring on my steak which skewed the flavour slightly. They must have been running their grill slightly too hot. It was a bit pricey too. The meat quality was reasonable, but I have had better at a lower cost.

Fabulous evening. All the staff were wonderful, and Eric's helpful advice on our choice of wine and after dinner drinks was most appreciated. One of Scotland's best restaurants. Highly recommended.

Wonderful dining experience of a place from long ago. The food is 5 stars! Try the raspberry mille fille and the Stilton salad... out of this world!

I was at the champany, with my lady friend, as the chop and ale was still closed. However, I can honestly say this was and will always be the best place to eat a steak. Service is fantastic and the atmosphere is always pleasant, food is to die for melt in the mouth steaks. We had a t bone sirloin and a stripsteak with chope and ale hand cut chips 🤤🤤 and a parmesan and rocket side salad 🥗 fantastic all round and will always come here when steak is mentioned. Thank you

A lovely, quiet atmosphere. Delicious menu. The steak was impeccable. The sides and portions are the perfect size. Staff are polite and helpful. My only criticism is they seem to have changed their house wine (though this was from a few years ago) and no longer offer Porterhouse cuts (which I and many of those who dine with me here miss terribly). I hope they'll re-introduce those one day.

No I was in the Champany. If you want a steak you go to a steak house. This is a steak house bar none got my Tbone steak done rare to say my mouth was watering is a understatement. You pay for what you get it might cost a bit more but it's worth it.

The food and service were second to none! We had burgers and they were absolutely great! Exactly what you would expect from a place that takes great pride for its cuts of meat. Will definitely return for a steak and perhaps a bit of desert. ;)

Disappointed beyond belief. Our old favourite from yrs ago. My steak was pure fat and the waitor constantly leant over our plates, whilst we were eating, to place sauces etc..... then asked me if I had finished my cheese whilst I was still eating it! We know you are better than this.

This place has never changed. Lovely for some where different. But a bit expensive

Love this steak restaurant. My 16oz ribeye was cooked to perfection. Chips reminded me of chippie chips which is a plus for me. The staff were all really friendly and I was celebrating my birthday there too. Would defo go back for the size of steak and value.

Oh my what a beautiful setting for a steak house. We ordered steaks of course, and they didn't disappoint. This place is now number one on our list for the best meal ever had. If your near here, it's a must that you have a meal here. Well done to all the hard working staff

We were so looking forward to going out for our anniversary. I ordered a T Bone steak, medium. It looked great when it arrived but was all bone and fat and still raw in the middle. Even the steak knife struggled to get through it. It arrived on a cold plate which is a pet hate of mine. We had a bowl of chips between 2 which were great but once again arrived on a cold plate therefor half way though our meal we were eating cold chips. My wife had a burger which she enjoyed, I wish I had had the same. We were sitting in reception area with my wife sitting facing a wall so all in all not a nice experience. We could not wait to get out...

Good, unobtrusive service. Decor is a bit olde worlde. If a big steak is your thing, this is the place to eat.

Lovely venue, great steaks. Salmon was very good too Limited choices (no veg just chips). Staff varied from great to average but very attentive.

Excellent meal and service... apart from the lady on arrival. Her Manor was rude and actually we were taking aback the way she conducted her self. For that reason i only gave you four stars. Seriously have a word with her

Amazing staff that are attentive and friendly. You may have to wait on occasion but lovely little area to sit down in and enjoy a drink in front of the fire before getting your table. The food is always delicious and the burgers are quite something and have never had anything but positive experiences over the years.

Dropped in here for a friend retirement lunch. It was really a late lunch 2.30pm and had the place to ourselves. A friendly welcome and give a choice of any of the 4 person tables. Staff took our drinks order and retuned soon after but were happy to let us catch up before ordering food. Only two had starters and we both really enjoyed the french onion soup. Our mains arrived and we were all really pleased with our selections. The portions were generous. My Boerewors (South African sausage) was excellent, The staff were attentive, they had to be we were the only ones there. Nice relaxed meal, it is quite a small quirky place, and there were a lot of tables, would probably be almost claustrophobic when busy. Did not see the bill so cannot comment on costs. Would definitely visit again.

We are regulars as are my Mum and Dad , my brother and sister in law (not so the the kids) at the Chop and Ale house... today was a special occasion for Mums 65th... Margo kindly organised the Breakfast room for 11 of us to enjoy the experience. Food as always exceptional quality and tasty. Service from start to finish faultless, the local team always make this a great place to visit. The location, decor, service always makes this a nice place to eat... thanks for making this a great birthday.

Amazing place good food and great staff

Place was cosy but I wouldn't be rushing back. The chicken breast was fine as was the burger but nothing special. The chips were lovely however. We had a pot of tea each which was lukewarm and which was only enough for 1 person.

Not a massive choice of menu, but the food is beautiful. The surroundings also add to the experience - lovely little place - would be ideal for a romantic meal.

Very tasty food, at an affordable price, quite a lot. The waitress knows Spanish which is very appreciated, because we understood each other very well with her. He advised us what to order and he was right. Everything exquisite.

Went with my Sister in law it was lovely,food was really good ,only problem was we were sat at a table for two by the fire which was delightful ,but very dark no lighting near to our table area , and struggled to cut our food as the steaks were T-bone we mentioned it twice to different staff but "thats how it is " . Staff lovely food a treat .

Decidedly meh, the steak was amazing. Well aged perfectly cooked, sadly the rest was not so good. Drinks orders missed, desert was truly poor, stale and tasteless. The table was ideal for 2 people and extra cramped for 4. The bread was served with tongs as was the foil wrapped portion of melted butter, coupled with the 1945 server attire was well - lame. This is a tiered old place and an echo of what it was . Pity used to be nice, my advice, go to a beefeater the quality and experience will be better and you will save some coin.

Quality of the meat is exceptional and service is fab. You can't book in advance though, so be prepared for a bit of a wait if it's busy.

Went to the Chop and Ale House today after my daughters graduation. Lovely cosy restaurant, busy but seated straight away. Attentive friendly staff and 1st class food. Highly recommend.

Have known about the Champany for years and it's good reputation so we decided to try the Chop & Ale House first. I'm afraid to say it was a big disappointment. My order of sirloin was over done, medium more than medium rare and the fat was charcoal. The quality of the steak was not great, fairly chewy, we get much better steak from our butchers in the Borders. The service was exceptionally quick, no sooner had you finished your last mouthful plates were whisked away. In fact we were actually asked twice if we had finished when we clearly had not. There is a no booking policy so I understand they need to turn tables, but we were actually done in an hour for a 3 course meal. I was also very uncomfortable with the 'uniform' for staff. Plain black trousers and shirt for the men which was fine but an absolutely ridiculous traditional 'servants' uniform for the women with a long white frilly apron, think Dounton Abbey, totally uncalled for, very sexist. Overall a disappointment for what was £100+ with only 1 person drinking and a shared dessert. I'm afraid we will stick to Edinburgh.

went twice over the weekend, the rib-eye steak blue was fantastic, the red wine adorable, great service, nice and quite, fish cakes starters lovely. One of the best steakhouses I have been to, made to feel really welcomed by everyone there

Fishcakes batter was tasteless and NEVER order the salad. Bowl of Cos lettuce with gooey cheese poured over the top. First and last visit

Went for lunch today as a last minute decision, had not been for many years. I’m not sure if the rest of the Restuarant world got better and this had stood still but it seriously needs up grading or freshened up. I think it is more of a cosy winter place, but food wasn’t up to much the best thing was the chip. Burger was tasteless and under seasoned . Salad was dull with soggy coleslaw, and the bun was cheap and hadn’t been toasted. Table clothes needed the bucket and packed individual butter i would expect at a garden centre.

Great t bone steaks highly recommended .The burgers are also fab . Can’t book so need to be there early or take a chance . Always good here .

Starters are good. Steak is excellent, always ask for a recommendation dependant on how you like it cooked to ensure you are happy with the outcome. Lots of people complaining about their steak when they just seemed to have ordered their steak incorrectly. Burgers were average. I was mostly disappointed with the service. I had been told we would have to wait, and wait we did, 90 minutes. That’s ok though, we were expecting great things. My disappointment came when we sat down only to see people who hadn’t been waiting with us had been seated & served before us. To add insult to injury, they had also ordered the last of the dish I wanted. Perhaps pre-orders from people waiting would alleviate the sour taste this left for me? We were most certainly an inconvenience to the waiting staff. We had to request every drink. Our food was thrown at us & we were nonchalantly asked if we wanted sauces, to which we had to ask which 8 sauces they currently had in their hands. Hard work. I won’t spend my hard earned money here again. Nothing special.

A beautiful place with a great food and staff

Lamb chops were very burnt, not appetizing to eat. Other menus that were available were not introduced in the original resuraunt. Total price was a shock. Cobwebs were on celling. Garden outside overgrown. But, the breakfast was lovely, and so were the kitchen staff. The open kitchen was very interesting to watch.

We've been going to Champany's chop & ale house for year's & trust me they serve the best grilled steaks in Scotland by a country mile. I'm well fussy when it comes to steaks. It has to be cooked medium aka pink in the middle. We don't even need to look at the menu when we sit down. It's not changed for years. I wouldn't change anything about the decor or the setup as it works. The staff are always friendly & helpful. I usually have the ribeye but opted for the T-bone steak for a wee treat & what a treat it was. So thick & juicy cooked perfectly by Fabio from Roma in the kitchen. To be honest the last couple of steaks on our last two visits were just ok & I thought Champany's was losing it's magic but Fabio has restored my faith.

Visited mid-afternoon on a Saturday and only had to wait a couple of minutes for a table to be available for us. Staff were attentive. Decor was homely and cosy. Room got very warm but staff were happy to open the window to let some cooler air in.

Portions so big they could be American, served in record time. Cosy atmosphere, and comfy chairs. Perfect.

Nice and cosy place good food I think u can't book a table but don't quote me on that. We all had t-bone steaks lovely and real chip shop chips too.

The food here is outstanding! The menu is not large but it's all about quality not quantity, what they do do they do extremely well, the pate is homemade and to die for, they have there own smoke house so the bacon and burgers are amazing, and of course there speciality is their steaks! All meals come with homemade chips too! Never a bad meal here and the staff are extremely polite and helpful. It's very quaint and older style with a log burning fire in the middle to add to the ambience. You can't book here so arrive early to get a table or you may have to wait a bit! But it's worth the wait!
