The Brewer's Arms in Wealden

I have eaten twice in the Brewers over the past couple of weeks and both times the food and service were excellent. The first meal was a Sunday roast and I had a mix of beef and pork, both meats were extremely tasty accompanied by roast potatoes, yorkshire, veg and of course the renowned cauliflower cheese. My second visit was on steak night where you get 2 x rump steaks, fries & a side salad for £26 and our steaks were flavoursome and tender, delicious and I highly recommend.

Brilliant feel-good place to meet up with friends.

We went for a drink on Tuesday and got told about the steak night on Thursday. It did not disappoint! Cooked to perfection!

Having heard all the enthusiastic praise for the new cuts of meat at the Brewer's Arms, I felt compelled to sample them for myself. I was thoroughly impressed; the ribeye steak was cooked to absolute perfection. The meat was so tender that it melted in my mouth, and even the fat dissolved effortlessly on my palate. The staff were consistently friendly and attentive, providing exceptional service throughout the dining experience. Their approachable demeanor and readiness to assist ensured that guests felt welcomed and well-cared for at all times. This level of attentiveness greatly enhanced the overall atmosphere, making the visit even more enjoyable.

went in for a few pints on a Monday evening. Nice friendly pub with a good beer garden. The locals didn’t go silent and stare as we walked in which is always a good sign…

Lovely food, good prices and a good atmosphere. Parking and garden too. Plus they have a pizza night with a real pizza oven!

Came for a quick drink in the garden, staff were very friendly. Good range of drinks and the garden is lovely. Will stop for some food next time we're passing as it smelled great and the menu looked good

Fantastic old pub, great food and the young lady who waited our table was very helpful as my wife has food intolerances. Really nice people, nice well kept ale and food was first class.

I don't normally do reviews. This pub deserves one, very welcoming, amazing food , we had the Hanging Kebab, very tender....and Veggie burger, the best I have ever had, both dishes came with fresh chips, and a lovely fresh side salad.... Definitely going back!

Just been tonight for the first time. Food was first class as was the service. Really lovely pub with a great atmosphere. The lady behind the bar and waitress was working so hard. We had the chicken and chorizo kebabs which were really tasty. Highly recommended. We will be back soon.

Great pub. Have been in for drinks several times. Noticed the pizza oven on our last visit and would be keen to try - pizzas looked amazing!

Lunch menu was v limited for vegetarians however we were able to order from the evening menu.

My husband and I were visiting the Herstmonceux area for a weekend and enjoyed this cozy pub for dinner. They have a nice beer garden too. The food was good, reasonably priced, and the service was friendly and attentive.

Called in here for a quick pub lunch with the wife. The food is excellent! Home cured ham, home cut fries, the wife had lamb kofes which were faultless. We'll definitely be back. A great find.

Popped in here yesterday, as visiting the area. Was greeted by the most miserable and rude member of bar staff I have ever encountered in a (country) pub. It seemed too much effort to serve us the hot drinks that we had ordered. Suffice to say, we won’t be returning, and will only spread the word of the shocking service and miserable, rude staff.

Tried booking a table here over the phone. The person who answered was rude and made me repeat the same thing multiples times - and yet still did not understand what I was saying. Suggested that they tried calling me if it was a bad line. They didn't call back so I called again only for them to not even answer the phone. Won't be trying again.

Absolutely lovely pub and the staff are amazing. With all the snow I had to leave the road and luckily found this place. Everyone was really caring and made sure we was ok. Perfect find!

Very noisy with a weird guitar player who made lots of noise with no discernable tune. A horrible buffet made up of a miss-matched offerings and the only saving grace was a passable pint of Harveys. I was glad to go home. I would say the musicians possibly weren't the choice of the pub although I can't see them being anyone's choice.

Great steak at a great price and service

Love this pub. Shame it’s ruined by rude members of staff (Danielle) Advised us kitchen was busy on arrival, my friend and I said no problem we will be staying for a few hours to drink anyway. Went back to order 5 mins later and she decided to snap at us and say kitchen is now closed, then continued to serve the regulars food. If your staff cannot handle a normal evening hire some more.

It was Jubilee weekend and they were very busy. Managed to buy drinks at the bar but it went cold outside so we did not stay for a second. Band was good to listen to.

We visited twice during our stay in Herstmonceux. The first for lunch on May Bank holiday Sunday when, owing to having to wait for relatives, we could not be certain of times. Was not a problem and table kept for us. Pleasant staff but inexperienced waitress would have benefitted from more guidance. Reasonable value food and nice lunchtime atmosphere. Second visit was a Thursday evening. Pub was busy even early evening and got busier. Excellent value food and good quality. Steak and Tuna particularly well cooked. Gammon and egg (never pineapple!) didn't disappoint. Will go again if ever in the area and would recommend.

A lot nicer inside than it looks from outside. Had an excellent lunch: freshly cooked, decent amount, friendly service. Will definitely be going back next time I'm in the area.

We went on a Thursday evening. It was steak night and we had 2 lovely 10oz Rump Steaks for £22. The steaks were beautifully cooked and came with fries and a salad but we also had sides of Garlic mushrooms and Onion rings. Wow the garlic mushrooms were lovely and I should be safe from vampires for a good while🤣. Followed it off with the sticky Toffee pudding. All in a rather nice pub with lovely staff, a great atmosphere and great food. Lots to like and I would happily go back again.

Delicious Sunday lunch was had - perfect portions, and all came out hot and fresh. For once my child ate everything he ordered! Says it all.

A first time visitor from Ham who was very impressed. Excellent staff, a wonderful few pints of Long Man, and a very tasty meal for 6 people. I will return. Many thanks

Lovely little pub but after the last visit I think I'll knock it on the head. Pint of Harvey's, half pint longman for the missus. A can of coke for the boy, plus a second can for the journey home should he want more. Nothing out of the ordinary £14.80. So even if my pint was £4.50 (London prices) and the half say £2.50 (glass fee, lol) that's £7.80 for 2 cans of multipack coke. This is my first non 5 star review. Really bad show when you can't take your kid out and teach him the ways of pub life before setting him on the hard stuff.

Lovely little pub bang in the middle of Herstmonceux village. Super staff serving excellent food. Seriously good. Would have eaten four courses if I had room. Good selection on tap including Orchard View. Highly recommended.

Came due to seeing good reviews . But very disappointed. Food quality and price are reasonable. But we had to eat in a rush because we were told by staff on arrival , that we only had 1hour 45 mins to eat despite reservation and no precious warnings. We arrived 10 mins before reservation time. We ordered pretty quickly then the food wasn’t ready until 1 hour later so we only had about 40 mins to eat from the food arrival. One of the female staff was quite grumpy as well despite the restaurant wasn’t busy. Wasn’t a pleasant experience especially when you were on holiday.

Went there for lunch and enjoyed their tapas type menu (small meals menu). And the pints of longman

Just moved to the village and found the staff very friendly and helpful. The food looks great and the pub will be a big addition to our lives.

Was here tonight having a meal with some work colleagues while down from Scotland. Staff were really friendly, polite and made you feel welcomed. Was a busy night but the staff team kept us updated and kept apologising for the wait (wasn't long at all). Food was fantastic, I had the Brewers Burger and it was amazing. No one from our group had anything at all to complain about. Thank you Team Brewers Arms for a great meal.

Very friendly staff and good food for the price

Disapointed as the food is usually really nice. Went for the 2 for 20 steak deal but the steak was very tough and came with a blue cheese sauce which was expected to be a steak sauce and turned out to be one you get in a bottle for salad. Service was OK but clear that locals take precedent. A real shame

As a Canadian traveler who visits the nearby castle it is always a must to visit the brewers arms. The locals are friendly and the pub has got it all figured out.

Nice pub low ceilings, very plesent bar staff. Wide range of drinks and exerlent food. The food they have themed nights ie. Pizza night, fish and chips night also serve very nice stakes. You will feel welcome at this pub. I would give 6 stars if I could.

It's sad that such an integrally valuable community icon now runs almost as a ghost of what it used to be. Some days there's food service, some days not. The latest 'innovation' is their 'investment' in a pizza oven. But I can assure you there are no pizza chefs twirling fresh bread discs above their heads. Sadly, in many villages, the iconic village centre point if the community pub is part of Britain's vanishing vistas. With dramatic plunges in alcohol consumption, combined with families already struggling to feed their families at home, there's little wiggle room for disposable income to pay for beers whose prices are seldom any lower than £3 a pint. Still, it's a lovely iconic venue and if you find yourself in the beautiful and friendly village of Herstmonceux, it's worth a visit. Stop on by - we'll leave a light on for you!
