The Breakfast Club in St Albans

Went here for brunch on a Sunday. The interior is small but beautifully designed. I can only speak of the pancakes and coffee- though the savoury dishes looked good. The coffee is great. The pancakes’ presentation was appealing but the quality isn’t quite there for £12 (with pancakes being mainly flour). The quantity was there (4 pancakes) but they were dry, flour dense, and lacked flavour (and the kiwi’s surface was dry so not too fresh). Would maybee go back to try their savoury dishes but not sure.

Well, let's talk about starters. Every appetiser is so so tasty and scrumptious that they are a big big yes and a huge giveaway for the restaurant's enormous new menu. For those who just want an appetiser of each cuisine they offer, they have top-notch flavour and the manner of presentation is a visual treat to your eye. A huge 10/10 for the choice of food on their menu, the level of service, and can't stop bragging about my clean wiped plate of every dish on the table. Brilliant!!!! Can't wait to try more on their menu.

We went this morning before catching the train to the airport. It was our first time and we enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Our food was delicious and as you can see from the photo my daughter enjoyed every bite! The staff were very kind and asked if we need extra sauce. The place was quite busy and everyone was served within minutes. We are definitely coming back again. ☆☆☆☆☆

New hotspot in St Albans. Went for dinner and had lovely time. Amar our waiter made the night extra special and had the best time. Food amazing and atmosphere was lovely. Highly recommend to go!!

Really nice local cafe, with an excellent breakfast & lunch menu. Really popular, and hence really very busy on weekends - booking essential. They could really do with hiring more waiting staff, given the volume of custom. Had to wait for our coffees & brunch for quite a while during our last visit.

Reading the reviews here I was very sceptical to go but glad I did.staff extremely friendly and helpful breakfast decent standard and big portions,would agree however its not cheap

: the portion is good, the quality is ok. Lots of errors sadly. Nice place and good quality stuff. The French toast was shy as u can see, there is hardly any fruits! That’s ok but management should reflect that on the price to pay, the kids size all day breakfast is brilliant, the halal sausage dosnt taste like meat, think it was veggie! The Amazon breakfast was nice but the broccoli and sweet potatoes overkill n overcooked. The poached egg was lovely. The drinks are over priced, Moroccan tea when I asked if it was the proper stuff, waitress assured me, when it arrived it was standard peppermint teabag in a fancy teapot for £3.50. So I think they need consistency and up the quality if they continue with this pricing system. I wouldn’t recommend it, go Ninos across the road for a decent halal breakfast. At the end the bill came and my sons apple juice was charged at £4.50 when asked if the apple juice was fresh and that’s why it’s so much, he kindly removed the cost. But still 6/10, if you want a decent french toast drive to Crouch End and sample Koa, all halal n lush!

When into the cafe to enjoy breakfast with children on a Sunday morning and can honestly say it's the WORST breakfast I've ever eaten. Children's scrambled egg was hideous, toast cold and hardened. Full English breakfast, hash browns drowning in oil and clearly pre-cooked or very old dirty oil. Fried eggs drowning in oil and over cooked. Sour dough toast served again toasted and rock hard, no butter, mushrooms reheated, nothing was fresh on the plate. Coffee was dreadful. Should have seen that despite being early, it was only cafe open by Clarence Park, and it was empty. The building works and drilling from the back of the cafe and the shouting of trades or staff just added to the experience...

The best place for breakfast and brunch in St Albans. Tried The Hippie Breakfast at the restaurant. Everything was top-notch. Loved it. Highly recommended.

Came at 10 am on Saturday morning for breakfast. Only 4 tables were busy but they said they were fully booked. Went across the street, had breakfast and drinks and when we finished we had a look inside and the place was still empty an hour later.

Great atmosphere and customer service. Ordered The American breakfast but the food was very dry and had no flavour it was as if it was just thrown onto the plate. Very disappointed especially for the price of it.

Sam the owner was fantastic! You get the best customer service here. The food was really nice and it was a very pleasant experience and atmosphere. I would highly recommend this place. We got the full English breakfast (halal version) and the French toast. The portion size was really good value for money.

I can’t rate this place highly enough. The minute I walked in it was an oasis of calm. I was in the middle of dealing with a very stressful situation and the lovely kindly man working there overheard me and asked if I needed to charge my phone, and suggested I could move to a nearby table with a charger. This was before I’d even ordered coffee and food which came very promptly. I had a fried egg, feta and avocado muffin and a latte, followed by a banana froyo. The atmosphere was so nice and soothing, added to the delicious food and lovely staff, it has just been perfect in every way. So glad I gave this place a try. Don’t miss it.

TERRIBLE HYGIENE!!! First, the drinks we ordered were in dirty glasses with thick stains on the inside of the cup. I only noticed after finishing my smoothie. Secondly, my toast was served up to me in a bowl filled with food residue (not bread) and 3 red children's crayons underneath! It's unbelievable such a mistake like this could be made. Food was average considering the cost. Ive eaten here multiple times in the past and it's become clear that without the owner present the staff at the Breakfast club have next to zero understanding of hygiene and how food should be served. Very disappointed and won't be eating there again.

Best breakfast East of the St Albans train station.

Clean restaurant, nice decor. Had French Omelette and Amazonika for Breakfast, both were delicious. Staff were friendly. Will definitely be going back to try more of the menu!

Only 2 things stopped this being a 1 out of 5 rating. Our 2 kids liked their pancakes and the owner gave us money off the bill because we complained. However, it really does need to up its game. Waited 30 minutes whilst a friend of the staff got served ahead of us (despite arriving after us). Poached eggs were forgotten, then one was basically hard boiled when served (didn’t eat it, it wasn’t runny at all). Sausages were tough. ‘Crispy bacon’ was greasy. This place is not what it was when we last reviewed it (when we gave it a good review). The waiter took it on the chin and actually gave us a discount to apologise which was appropriate, as eating out should be a treat to enjoy as it’s not cheap. Shame, previously enjoyed it years ago but the chef needs to get better ingredients and up his game (it’s hard to mess up what is basically a fry up!)

We’ve just had such a lovely brunch here!! Delightful outside seating and totally delicious food ; the vegan toast was tasty and colourful and the pancakes yummy ; highly recommend and also lovely friendly servers too .. we’re lucky to have this restaurant on our doorstep ;-)

I had a lovely breakfast there, food was nice, well cooked and they had a good range on the menu. The owner was very friendly and made us some juices that were not on the menu.

Ive been here twice and the breakfast food has always been exceptional! The pancakes are very delicious, and we'll worth the price. I've also bought the full English and amazonika, although it is a little pricey compared to other places, the portions are quite big, so definitely recommend.

Over priced breakfast club didn’t live up to the hype! Just because everything comes with sourdough does mean you can charge extortionate prices or that it’s any good. Ok, the quality of the produce is good but overpriced

We went to the Breakfast Club for a friend's baby shower - the team were really accommodating including letting us bring our own cake and put up balloons. Food was delicious and served quickly which I was really impressed with for a group of 20 people. Would definitely go back.

Wow what a bad atmosphere! We where looking to have breakfast at the cafe in front but as they're closed, we just popped in in here. All the staff where grumpy and the oldest waitress was doing the floor and dragging all the furniture making it very unpleasant experience. This is fine in a loud busy place but not when is quiet and you can only hear the loud noises ... Food was not like the pictures, definetly nothing here to come back for...

A sunny Sunday, the venue was busy. Thankfully the staff were very accommodating and seated us. Service was friendly,fast and very clean. As for the food, fresh and tasty. From what I saw from the other customers orders, this a place to certainly return back too.

Went to lunch with my family. The food looked stunning and tasted delicious. Such a lovely cafe with a great atmosphere, they offered gluten free alternatives for me and were very friendly. I definitely recommend.

We visited this place for breakfast on the memory of the old breakfast club cafe, be under no illusion it’s not that, and not in a good way. The decor is lovely and new however the menu is extremely expensive. We ordered eggs Benedict and an omelette, the food arrived promptly and that’s about all I can say was positive for the eggs Benedict. The muffin was un toasted, the supposedly grilled tomato was just a slice of raw tomato with some spinach thrown in. The omelette was ok however for the money I would have expected some chips and a proper salad on the side. The waiter did deduct the cost of the eggs Benedict. Overall for the money and the 12.5% service charge I would save your money and visit somewhere else. We ended up doing the latter elsewhere in St Albans.

Visited Monday 9th January - wow 3 amazing meals thank you. I had the Lebanese breakfast which was delicious, my husband had the Naan breakfast which he said was really good, sausages, bacon and egg high quality food, really well cooked in a lovely sauce - large size, not for the faint hearted!! my son had the French toast breakfast which came with lovely tasty fruit. Service was excellent. We live in Norfolk but every time we’re in St Albans we will try and eat here. Brilliant place.

I have not been to the Breakfast Club since the refurb so I was a bit unsure until I realised that I was in good hands. The food, The service was top notch and the place was nearly full. Not good for parking but I can assure you that it is worth it in the end. Hopefully be back soon.

We decided to start Christmas Eve with Breakfast at the Breakfast Club and we were not disappointed. I had the Hippie Breakfast which is plant based. I didn't need to eat until 5 pm. Very healthy and tasty. My daughter had what she wanted a bacon sandwich, we are a family of contrasts. It is a friendly place and that comes through in the service.

Enjoyed the perfect British breakfast. Very tasty and more filling. The juice was really amazing and freshly made. The service was amazing and they tailor made the vegetarian option to my need.

I hadn't been here for years but a friend took me at the weekend and I then went back this week with my dad. Both times the food was fab- hot, fresh and some lovely finishing touches (chocolate sauce with the French toast and roasted tomatoes with the waffle). Staff are friendly but efficient. We will def go back- very busy at the weekend but quiet during the week. I need to work through the whole menu.

Brilliant breakfast for 10 served for a 21st birthday. Delicious food and great atmosphere. Staff went out of their way to make this a memorable celebration, including a surprise birthday cake and sing a long.

Very strange and unpleasant experience. I was treated with suspicion (who knows why). I simply ordered a coffee, but not breakfast (the prices were extortionate, even by St Albans standards). And to add insult to injury, even though the coffee was listed in their menu as being £3.20, they added a service charge taking it to £3.62 (this was not listed anywhere…). I suspect wanting to milk me for more money because I hadn’t ordered breakfast. As I say, throughout my time there (15 minutes or so) I kept receiving suspicious and unfriendly looks. I run a business and shall be warning my clients, not to mention friends and family, not to pay extortionate prices at an unfriendly (the main point) cafe.

Visited twice now and not just the food but the service is exceptional. Great tasting fresh food and even better as there are Halal options which is limited for breakfasts in St Albans! Huge portion sizes though! Not complaining! 🤭

We were really disappointed eating here. The food was mediocre at best and nearly £40 for two breakfasts and 2 coffees. I understand that prices have gone up, and we are happy to pay, but not for the quality we had. We wouldn't come back. The waitresses were friendly though.

Love the new ownership and vibe of the breakfast club! Far exceeded my expectations. Came on a Monday afternoon for some food. Had the full English breakfast. SO GOOD, really reasonably priced and great service. Definitely will be coming back again.

I have to write this review as I just ate The Breakfast Club’s ‘Breakfast Naan’ and it was amazing! Better than Dishoom’s classic Indian breakfast options. Stupendous! Delicious sausages and crispy bacon, with fried egg, all perfectly cooked and great examples of what they are. Served in a perfect folded-in-half naan bread. With add-your-own-to-taste pots on the side of a tasty chilli sauce (lots please!) and a garlicky yoghurt dip (lots please!). Add a little optional salad (including delicious slightly pickled red cabbage) and you have perfection! Generous portion so plenty even sharing with my wife. I normally live in Brixton and it’s no exaggeration that I’m thinking this dish is good enough to warrant the 1 hour 10 minute each way round trip to have it again! Thanks, Breakfast Club - best breakfast of the year by far!
