Mulberrys Cafe in St Albans

Don't know if there is new management, but does seem to have gone down hill a bit recently. Food was ok last time I went, but they never write you're order down, so they either repeat it back wrong, or deliver the wrong food to the table, because they didn't remember accurately what I asked for.

food was cold, bubble and sqeak was sloppy. possibly one of the worst delivery's I've had. won't bother again.

Me and my friend went for Breakfast a couple of days ago and the food that was presented was very overcooked and tasted not great, won't be returning

Always a prompt service, the new owner is a far better cook than the old ones, only draw back is a little too expensive for basic cooked breakfasts etc

The best little place for a lunchtime meal had an omelette with a side salad and a capachino, which was excellent with a food head of real chocolate. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and the prices affordable

Quick service, basic breakfast fare. Beans were sweet and the pork was fairly salty.

I went into Mulberry’s for a self thought combined breakfast of baked beans, hash browns , mushrooms, toast and a can of coke. Requested no butter on the toast but that came buttered so I left that. It came to £7.50. Paying was a nightmare. The gentleman serving cleared my table quite promptly. I asked if I could pay? 10 minutes later no return so I left £10 on the table and left. People have things to do. As I am walking down the street the gentleman who could not take my money in the cafe is running down the street behind me shouting at me ‘You have not paid , you have not paid.’ It was embarassing but I told him it was on the table and included a £2.50 tip. A few years ago it used to be good in there. Losing it now.

Absolutely disgusting, all food is deep fryer, cutlery dirty ll the condiments you can see they are refilled and grease bottles. One single man is cooking and serving . Just avoid not worth a single step into this place

Charming folk, great food & coffee, best value (v them chain coffee shops!!). Great new coffee machine, so *6 now!! Back again!! the food came on time the food was falling thru the boxes sweaty chips were soggy and just cooked omlette was burnt asked for no salad n beans on the burger and it came with both. used to be a great cafe. i will never waste my money here again so disappointing.

Side of (tinned?) mushrooms came cold with an omelette. Bacon was dry and off colour a bit, maybe precooked? Pretty average cheap cafe. Not bad. Just not good either. Disappointed for a random cafe pick. Onwards and upwards guys!

Very good traditional cooked English breakfast with friendly, quick service.

Used to rate this place 5 star. Think its under new management now. Not as good as it used to be. Been a regular customer for 10 years but no longer unfortunately

Perfect normal English breakfast for £7 great value. Nice pot of builders tea with plenty of tea bags and free refill of hot water. Can't beat for a no frills breakfast. Bill for 2 people ,£20 pounds which included a £2 tip. Brilliant value

Good value tasty breakfast. Friendly service with food delivered quickly and hot. Each had a filling breakfast and drink for less than a tenner each. Recommended if you're in the area.

We fancied a cheeky NYE breakfast delivery . I clearly didn’t research properly. I did read a negative review but thought let’s give them the benefit of the doubt and try them out. Wish I’d listened!! The food was extremely disappointing, dry hard bacon , dry conjealed eggs , soggy toast ( no butter requested on the side) no disposable cutlery requested. Not worth the money at ALL !!

Love this cafe for a full breakfast with a good strong cup of tea. Great staff.

Since changing hands this cafe has nose dived. It used to be the go to place to pop in for a sandwich at lunch time. The prices have gone through the roof, and sandwich fillings been cut by a third. Stale bread, the least filling they could possibly use. £9 for a sandwich, crisps and a can of pop is one thing but to get hardly any filling at all is daylight robbery. I will not be visiting again!

Great place to start your day with an Amazing English Breakfast and Tea. The food is really well cooked, plated and served. Would definitely recommend this place to people living in (or visiting) St Albans.

I was very disgusted how the waitress woman spoke too me in a rude manner tune; how they don't have rice which I found very odd as every cafe I've been too has rice; and wasn't greatful that I could hear her back chatting me behind the counter to the member of staff.Which is a massive red flag of disrespect towards a customer so for that you only get a 1 star for your arrogance; by the way I also didn't like how the bake beans were luke warm which could of been more hotter when I eat it so won't be coming back here again.😡🤨🙄😳

Nice food reasonable priced. Have had cheaper and better food, but as far as cafe food goes not bad.

This cafe was my all time favourite years ago. We popped in for bacon rolls and coffee this morning. Bacon was stone cold served in a huge burger bap, we through the rolls in the bin they were that bad. Very disappointing as id such high hopes of revisiting this place

My fiancée and I went for breakfast here and it was really nice, the food was top notch and the service was polite and with a smile. Very reasonably priced and some excellent choices on the menu 5*

We had breakfast at Mulberrys Cafe before the St Albans Beer Festival. The Full english and steak breakfast was very tasty freshly cooked and well presented. The staff were friendly. Will stop off again if in the area.

Great food, good quality and lots of choice

Visited the cafe with the idea of it being a 4.5 star. I don’t want to offend but it wasn’t the best and for just under 10 pounds this the quality of the salmon I received. Please see the image below. I had not brought this up with the cafe it self as I don’t feel it was something that was missed by accident. When it was served these parts were hidden on purpose.

A real locals cafe. Nothing fancy, but good coffee and a great full English breakfast with really big fresh doorstep toast 👌

A lake of beans with egg, bacon & cheap quality sausage

Food was great (although not quite as good as when actually in the cafe) but my issue is with the delivery drivers. Lately they refuse to use the doorbell and barely knocked on the door and just left the food on the doorstep (we don’t have a front garden).

Good cafe, it's getting harder to find a proper traditional cafe these days.

The food was well cooked and was delivered hot. It was good quality and quantity.

Food came cold.. and the pre buttered toast had melted and made it soggy. Bacon was hard and cold..

Decent cafe, only had a 5minute wait for food as we were I ky nes in there at the time. Food was brilliant and well worth the money. There is a big enough car park behind the cafe, about a 2minute walk away, if that. However I do think you ha e to pay.

A really lovely place with a relaxing environment. I moved to St Albans a few months ago and I've been coming here a couple of times. The staff is friendly and the food is pretty hearty. There are just 2 things that I wish were different: 1) it would be great if there was a vegan option (not only vegetarian) and 2) a milk alternative; not only for vegans but also for people who are lactose intolerant and simply don't want black coffee. Edit: thank you for adding milk alternatives!

Truly fantastic service and food as always was hot and flavoursome. I wanted my eggs well done and they ensured the eggs were correctly done and to my liking

I usually get the traditional or mega breakfast (and order hash browns as an extra). Some staff members have been better hosts than others, have had mixed results when it comes to service. It is reasonably priced for a breakfast or brunch. Never been there for anything else so can't comment on anything else. However, there is sometimes some fresh fruit tubs in the fridge which I've purchased for my daughter before, very convenient. The thick doorstep bread, lightly toasted, is always a really tasty addition and makes it stand out from the other cafés in St Albans. It isn't top of the line quality but it's good food for a decent price, so no complaints. Love it and would definitely recommend.

Extras shockingly overpriced for what you get. £2.50 for mushrooms and got about 2 cut up.

Please use local sausages.or a better quality sausage. Other than that, perfect

Nice and affordable food with a lovely service. They save all day breakfast, and have very nice coffee. They'll also make any kind of sandwich you like.

I have been going for a whole and sadly the service and food has deteriorated. The last time we given dirty cutlery, overcooked food (waffle cremated) and "free" ice-cream which chards of plastic pieces in it. It was a lot of money to spend to realise we will not be returning but thankfully I found the plastic in the ice-cream rather than one of my young daughters.

I cycled 18 miles for a bacon sandwich and a coffee at Mulberrys Cafe today. It was well and truly worth it!

food was cold and missing items. one tray was leaking through with beans. not good experience

Absolutely disgusting service! Contacted the restaurant directly after the food failed to arrive to be told it was sat there waiting and had been for 10 minutes and there was nothing then could do the manager then hung up - I was unable to cancel the order so advised the restaurant to not send it! I was advised they would not! Two and a half hours after placing the order it arrived having been cooked over an hour prior to this! I again spoke to the manager who for the second time told me there was nothing he could do and hung up the phone! The just eat driver would not allow us to not take the order and refused to help! Absolutely disgusting customer service and wouldn't waste my time with Mulberrys again!

Well, this place has nose dived. Such a shame. The service is hilariously bad now. You can't get served, the waiting staff just potter around, don't clean tables until new people come and wait. The truth is, you can't run a restaurant like this. We had 2 people leave while we waited as they just ignored 2 thirds of the dining room. It's pot luck, we waited 20 minutes to watch a table of two get served before us who had been in for 3 minutes. Mulberry good name will soon be gone if they don't address's the abysmall service. The place is tiny, there's three wait staff, three, they weren't short staffed just unorganised and unmotivated. Train the staff, its Literally a joke. If you want to eat here order online, you will be forgotten about

Food was absolutely stunning and delicious

The cafe use to be owned by Rory and Mark. So I popped in to say hello. I discovered that new owners had taken over. I ordered the chicken roast. They said the price had gone up. Unfortunately the quality of food hadn’t. So here are y finding. Chicken was defrosted. The vegetables were boiled to an inch of their lives. Soggy and tasteless. The roast potatoes defrosted and cooked in microwave. No crust on outside and just soggy mosh on the middle. The whole dinner was awful. Here is the kicker. It cost £9.50. What an insult. Could have got a decent Sunday roast in better surroundings for that. Really was not value for money. Avoid and if you can’t. Don’t have the roast.

Easily the best full english breakfast and reasonably priced too. The staff are genuinely lovely and the cafe is simple enough and clean. Ask the "The Full Elizabeth" if you dare!

Inferior food; I ordered what I think was called a mega breakfast plus a burger. All the food was overcooked, and the meat was gristly. The service was terrible. The waitress was extremely unfriendly. We were a table of five, and all of us will never be returning.

Rip off. The menu has a misleading item line of: 2 eggs on toast. It has x2 in brackets too so you would think your going to get 2 eggs on 2 toast for £4. Er, NO. I ended up paying £6 because in print further down the menu it says you can double up (the toast - which isn’t referenced). So I inadvertently ordered this thinking it’s £4 because I didn’t see it. So £6 for 2 eggs on toast is a rip off. In all I paid £10.50 as I had a tea and bacon with my eggs. In other cafe’s that would normally be £6 for the lot. It’s a shame because it used to be a great cafe 3 or 4yrs ago. I won’t be going back.

Always great food from the Mulbury Cafe.

Menu extras, melted cheese £1.50 doorstep toast £2.00. Cheese toasty £4.00 so 50p for putting it together, the bread was so lightly toasted in fact it was really just bread. Butter, less said about that the better, cheese, cheap sliced stuff. Nothing good about it. Forgot the ketchup. So few ingredients yet every one messed up. Complete disaster for which I won’t return.

Was very clean, friendly staff, and amazing food, Im originally from St Albans but I travelled down from Blackpool to try this amazing Mega Breakfast and it was well worth it, especially the Fresh DOOR STEP bread and toast. Its a definate yes to me coming back to mulberrys when I return again. Thanks guys awesome.

We always have a great time when visiting Mulberrys. The team are welcoming and the service is always very efficient. I opt for a full English with black pudding and it never disappoints. There are often a few tables outside; it’s great to read the papers and watch Saturday morning pass by when weather permits. Worth a trip.

Very good doorstep slabs of toast. Marmite and marmalade on the side in cute little dishes for diy spread to your liking. Nice cuppa, two teabags in the pot.

Good old fashioned all day full English breakfast and variations on the menu. Staff are very friendly. The place has been around for longer than I can remember so you know its great value for money and also very popular on weekend mornings after a heavy night!

Appalling attitude of owner shouting across the cafe telling me and my wife to leave because we had a little dog with us. I asked the reason why he has this policy since practically every other restaurant in St Albans has absolutely no problem with dogs. Does he think his little cafe is more upmarket than the Peahen, Bills or Gails? Wow what a horrible attitude from an impolite man who refused to even give a reason.

Staff were nice and the bread was also good the rest if it was cheap and over cooked won't be returning

Excellent cafe. Great quality food at reasonable prices...a cut above your normal high street cafe and yet not pretentious.

I had a nice burger with fries and a cup of apple tea. The burger was cooked perfectly and it had enough sauce . The tea was could so i could enjoy it . The space is not too big so you can have a private lunch with friends. The owner was very kind and easily approachable. After that lunch we were super full🤣Will be back soon. Cheers

Went yesterday..waited 45 mins for 2 takeaway teas..after reminding them ..maybe sundays not a good day for them.

Me and my pals in our teens 20's 30's 40's and how on earth did this happen our 50's🙄 do a thing we named "The lads Weekends" OK back in the day it was a weekend of being complete wallys who drank and stank, laughed and barfed. Now it's kinda evolved into the "middle aged men's weekend away" We no longer do the BnB Barfs and Burger vans. We've separated only in our locations some of us are 500 miles apart now but 3 or 4 times a year we attempt to be 20 again ( but now it's nice rooms and nice restaurants) but it's has always been and will continue to be the best post drinking cure at Mulberrys , The best breakfasts I've had .

Old and scruff. But the food was ok nothing special. The yoke in the egg was ok but not excellent in any way.
