We spent the weekend in Hull and found this gem as we walked in the pouring rain. What a great place! The food was fantastic, the service too. Couldn't do more than they did to make our visit perfect. Highly recommended. Super dog-friendly too.

The kind of place that makes me so happy that I moved to the UK. I recommend the mudslide cocktail if you like a sweet chocolate treat.

I don't write many reviews but we were so impressed with this place that l felt like l had to. We were looking for somewhere to grab dinner whilst our youngest kid was at drama class and faced with either Yates' poppity ping food or the draw of handstretched pizza we popped in. Firstly, table service which is great and then a really good selection of pizzas or small plates and more than that a decent selection of veggie options which was great for my partner. He opted for the yazzmatazz with goat's cheese and I had the 'Smelly Kev' which was chicken, prosciutto and mushrooms. We had some awesome dips (the miso and agave was just gorgeous) and a couple of soft drinks as we both had an early start but if you want a cocktail you are spoiled for choice because the menu is massive and when we don't have work the next day we will be back to sample the cherry sours. Dinner for 2 was £30 and the decent portions meant that we were full 😋 Highly recommended. Plenty of parking nearby or a ten minute walk from the bus/train station.

This is Hull's most enjoyable cocktail bar, offering thought provoking cocktails by people who know what they're doing. I like a Singapore Sling, the Milky Whey was very interesting too. Given the chance I'd make my way through the whole menu! I like the fact there's more floors than you expect, giving you plenty of quiet spaces to find a seat. The music taste on the stereo is always great. The food complements the cocktails nicely, I recommend the chubbies.

Me and my wife were lucky enough to stumble across The Brain Jar last year. We were so blown away by the cocktails we decided to stay in Hull an extra night just so we could enjoy more of their drinks and play their Sunday quiz. We’ve both been to a lot of cocktail bars around the world and this place surpasses all of them by FAR. Every single cocktail was superb but the Key Lime Pie had us in a chokehold…unreal! Please come to Manchester guys!

Muy muy caro. Mi pareja y yo fuimos a tomar algo a una calle y la última vez que entraremos. Pedimos un cóctel cada vez que ella consiguió un pastel de queso limón. Yo conseguí un zombie. Su cóctel sabía bien, el mío no tanto. Bebimos fuimos a pagar y el precio era de £ 35 yup £ 35 libras por 2 cócteles en el centro de la ciudad tienen un aviso en el cóctel zombi pidiendo a la gente que no se lleve las tazas porque son caros. Bueno, allí no es tan caro como sus cócteles. Nos robaron 1 calle y la última vez que visitaré este establecimiento.

Fantastic all round. The staff were friendly and always on the ball. Student/indy type of atmosphere. The cocktail I had was called 'Passion Fruit Caipirinha' and was one of the best cocktails I have ever had. Food was cooked to perfection. All positive from me.

What a great place! The owners are so lovely - helped me out with a unique pizza-needing situation during the Euros. The inside has a great atmosphere and even allows dogs. Definitely try this place out if you’re in Hull’s old town.

God, this place is as good as any cocktail bar in any major city on the UK.

Pizza was amazing and the cocktail menu had a good amount of variation and the cocktails themselves were also beautiful. Service was a little slow but we were seated outside during a busy time so can excuse that a little. Was a great experience all round though

Our very first visit here and certainly won't be our last. I would say this is Hull version of Evil Eye in York. Staff are very friendly, very warm greeting. Fab atmosphere, it's great watching the staff make the cocktails. It's like theatre. 2nd visit. Pizza was absolutely amazing. 4 big slices, reminded us of pizza in New York. Delicious. Gorgeous wedges highly recommend a visit.

Love this place! Staff are super friendly and extremely knowledgeable on their drinks menu. We only had time for one drink, both of which were amazing, but will definitely be back as we were at the bar and could see all the drinks going out and the staff chatted to us and answered our questions about the different drinks. Food also looked fab so we want to try that too! I think the thing that really makes this place is the staff - even though it was really busy they weren't flustered or stressed, they just seemed really chilled out and had plenty of time to chat and check you were OK. And seriously, the cocktails are incredible!

The best cocktail bar in Hull by a mile. Friendly staff and a changing menu to pique your interest. Classics are also available. The pizzas are delicious. Get yourself there on a Sunday for the regular Brain Jar quiz. Really good fun.

Attended the Sunday quiz which was only £2 to join, it was very entertaining with a great atmosphere and the food was great too! Will be returning here to do the quiz again and get some food!

Very bohemian bar in city centre... Cocktails and bottle beers are the offerings. Table service excellent. Mojito £9 plus free table water and good sounds from the speakers.

Stubbled across this gem on a cold Sunday evening. When we walked in to our surprise there was a jazz band playing . We both had amazing pizzas and a really nice bottle of red wine .

I just can't recommend this place enough. The food is so fresh and nothing is to much bother if you want something changing. The service is 10000% always greated with a smile, they're so happy to answer any questions about a drink and they are always happy to recommend a drink for you to your taste. The best place for drinks in hull!!

Fabulous cocktails, whether from the classic or seasonal selection. I can particularly recommend the Penicillin and the amaretto and cherry sour. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable and it’s the little touches like bringing you water and the attention to detail on the drinks like a personalised card with the birthday cake cocktail that elevate this to a higher level. Will definitely be back, loved it.

Great atmosphere & packed to the rafters on a Sat night. I wish I could sit and drink every cocktail on the menu, but had to be satisfied with an amazing vodka martini, a delicious tiramisu thing, and then something else that I can't quite remember... Fun was had 🍹

Situated in the heart of the pedestrian area of the city centre. Arranged over several floors this venue has a mix of seating with full table service. There is a great range of cocktails, all around £10. Trendy young waiting staff are friendly and helpful.

I really liked this when I first came with a group of friends, the food was great and the cocktails were fantastic, and the staff were great. However I went recently, and a member of staff who throughout the visit was quite friendly and welcoming, decided it was fine for people to vape behind me inside the bar, which honestly made me feel very unwelcome as an asthmatic and is also quite frankly illegal. So I don't feel like I will be able to return.

Visited on Saturday evening. Knowlegeable staff, free drinking water, lively ambiance. Liked the industrial seats. Coctails excellent. I am probably a bit old for this cool trendy place, but the younger set should enjoy it. I am a bit deaf, so found the background noise sometimes difficult to deal with, but I will visit again when next in Hull. Ask the staff what drinks they recommend (I did) and you might discover something new and highly enjoyable.

Great experience here. We was here for just over 5 hours. We were originally only going to have one or two drinks.. Fab decor, funky music amazing range of tasty cocktails. And the pizza was delicious as well. Really nice welcoming staff and unlimited free water. I would highly recommend and come again

Yeah I've not been in town for a drink with friends for a while, picked a hot day, only ever been in brain jar once before. Arrived sat outside, whilst a chap, arrived to start filling glasses with water for us. That's a first for me, specially in Hull, but shows the place is looking at good customer service. They don't do draught beers, so if your wanting beers, it's bottles, which we had lager, and cider. Taking a look at the provided drinks menus, there are a all host of cocktails to endudge yourself, maybe next time for us. But I can get the vibe from this place, and why it's getting good reviews.

Came yesterday for My Best Friend's Birthday the Food was absolutely Delicious and the cocktails wow Best one I have had ever ,even though a little bit pricey for the cocktails but definitely worth it. we will definitely be returning.

Pizza Wednesdays are great! Much better than the chain Italian restaurants. Cocktails are super nice too (I had a virgin passion fruit mojito). I've been another nights out too and the staff are lovely. There's often live music in there and it's usually quite busy downstairs but plenty of room upstairs :) The cocktails hurt the wallet though :(

A Very quirky independent Bar in the lively Old Town. Specialising in cocktails and food. It's nice to see something a bit different. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. I only had a drink but the food did look and smell very nice. Really aimed at a young trendy crowd not for a crusty old real ale drinker. It also has some outside seating, although why anybody would pay a premium to sit in the street drinking is beyond me when you can sit in the shop doorway opposite with a cheap can of cider. Young people will love it.

Been here before but a long time ago. Went on Sunday 4th June and had one of the nicest pizzas I've ever had (and I've had a fair few). The cocktails were amazing, friendly staff and the music was kinda 90s britpop and indie.

We were in The Brain Jar mainly for the quiz but stayed there all afternoon. The quiz was great fun. The food is amazing. The main reason for going to The Brain Jar is the brilliant cocktail menu. Classic or modern, they are all there. The staff are awesome and the table service is superb. It's a great idea to have the option of water on the table all the time.

Without a doubt the best cocktails in town! A good vegan food offering to boot, too - win, win!
