Did not stay for Sunday lunch which I have heard is excellent. I am disabled. No toilets other than up steps. Restaurant up steps. They did offer to set a table downstairs but seemed cold. But would not beable to get to toilets. So take note if you have mobility issues.

This local pub has been given life again by Samantha and Richard the wonderful new owners who are so friendly. The food is absolutely beautiful as is the wine. The bedrooms have been done up beautifully! It has a fantastic beer garden which overlooks the most stunning views. A big thank you to Samantha, Richard and the team for looking after a large group of family and friends who came to celebrate my husband's 60th Birthday at the end of January. They offered a very professional service from start to finish, the catering was excellent, and they made every effort to make it a very enjoyable evening and managed very well with serving such a large group of guests. It is great to see the Ye Olde Bowling Green as a thriving village pub again. CONTROLLED

This place as definitely gone down hill since the 'new' couple have taken over I mean how can they even get a pub like this after doing a runner with the takings from the cutler which they ran into ground too None of them can cook hygiene rating should be zero cos their last kitchen was filthy ! And both do nothing but drink all day ! So sorry for the customers going in this pub wouldn't recommend eating if either of those are cooking and she's above herself !!

We were staying in a holiday cottage up the road from here so walked down for Sunday lunch. We booked, needn’t have bothered, the place was virtually empty. My husband fancied Scampi - sorry, not available. Ok, any other fish? No, sorry. What about a double portion of the children's fish fingers? Nope! Apparently the fish supplier hadn’t been. ( Strange for a Sunday at the beginning of half term) The other food was fine, plentiful and tasty- I especially enjoyed my spare ribs. Until we got to the dessert - the mini chocolate desserts that two of us chose looked and tasted fine from the outside - but proved to have mouldy ( blue) cream right in the centre. Couldn’t have been spotted from the outside - but a storage or date control issue? Maybe just a bad batch from the supplier - these were not homemade. We weren’t charged for dessert and suffered no ill effects.

We booked an early 6pm dinner as we had children and had been hiking all day. They kindly booked us with friends on 2 tables in the conservatory. The menu was very unusual (haddock and leek oatcakes? Vegan plant based burgers, hot dogs with strange relishes -no mention of sides) so we had lots questions. The lovely waitress didn’t know so asked the kitchen. We ordered at about 6.30. The food didn’t arrive until 7.45 and we were all ravenous. We ordered desserts straight away but by 9pm they hadn’t come so half our group decided to leave - we cancelled, paid the bill and left. The bizarre menu and incredibly slow service did not impress.

It's been 3 years since i last visited here, and had fond memories. Staff were friendly and the food was great on that occasion (see previous review) Visited this weekend and have to say when the food arrived i was disappointed. It just didn't look as nice on the plate as before and when eating it, the food was not as good. The chips were lukewarm, the ribeye was rather thin and not greatly cooked. Asked for medium rare and the steak ranged from well done on the edges to rare in the centre. It certainly was not a £17.95 dish quality. Staff though were pleasant, but there was lots of people in the pub not following social distance rules/ There was one party over 6 people and people were not wearing masking when moving around the pub

Myself & my partner were booked in for one night on Fri 28 August 2020. This had been confirmed by a male member of staff at the venue a couple of months ago. I phoned on a related matter less than 24 hours before we were due to arrive to be told there was no record of my booking & they were now fully booked! The lady I spoke to was apologetic but obviously this wasn't acceptable. I had to find somewhere else to stay with 20 hours notice ! If the business isn't capable of the simplest of tasks such as this I wonder what the rest of the service is like not that I'll find out as clearly I'll never try to book a room there again . Terrible way to treat prospective guests .

There’s pros and cons with this place. We got checked in at the bar and shown to our room. The room is a cosy and clean but can definitely do with a refresh as it’s outdated. We had a little seating area outside our room with was a great touch but would be even better if it was separated with the next doors seating areas. The location is great- with lovely reviews. The sleep wasn’t very good unfortunately as the floor boards are so thin you can hear every little movement of the neighbouring residents. The bed and pillows aren’t very comfortable which didn’t help. The breakfast in the morning was really good and the hostess was friendly. Overall I would recommend to couples staying for a night but would recommend bringing you’re own pillow

Right, we came to Bradwell to stay in a cottage for this weekend. Expected to find a meal Saturday afternoon in 1 of the 3 pubs. We have 2 small dogs. The White Hart does not serve food so we called in for a drink. Freezing cold with no fire lit Friday afternoon, again it was cold and soul less on Saturday around 4pm. Staff did not speak to us at all. Went to Shoulder of Mutton Fri and Sat. The area we could sit in was the bar, very crowded, and room to the right of the bar with a pool table but no tables/chairs/ fire and very barren. Can’t sit in the other room, no dogs. Why? It’s only pub food, not a restaurant? Reviews said good food but no good if you have dogs. So went to Bowling Green, reviews were awful so decided not to eat there. Atmosphere was friendly, it was warm, Christmas decorated and tables around bar area full. We sat in the room to the right as we came in (pool room) which was cold and empty. Asked if we could bring dogs in, yes - please come in and sit where you want. Friendly staff and we almost decided to eat but having already dissed it due to reviews we went home. Happy with the pub and staff so people really should give it another chance. We don’t live local but if we did would definitely give the food a try and would hope to give a good review. Thank you Bowling Green xxx

The accommodation was comfortable and spacious enough for our doggies, the breakfast was very good and plentiful, and the location is perfect for exploring Dales and Peaks, with lots of good walking nearby.Reading some of the previous reviews almost stopped me from booking, but I’m glad we came. Yes, it’s a little cheap and cheerful, but that’s exactly what we want for a trip with the hounds, and I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful - there was a short delay with our room being ready when we arrived, but we were immediately invited into the bar and offered a free drink for our trouble, excellent service. We have visited this pub many times for food over the last 12 years and have recommended it to many people, especially the Carvery on Sunday which in my opinion could not be beaten for quality.Unfortunately the new owners have not been able to maintain the quality as it is now just average at best, we had Sunday lunch today and it was quiet which says it all.Customers will travel some distance to enjoy good food and it had a large clientele of repeat business not just tourist trade, its such a shame and disappointment that this great place is not now what it used to be.

I opted for scampi my friend steak pie . My scampi had no tartar sauce n slice of lemon the scampi has been cremated and salad garnish pitiful. My friends pie had more grisly bits than meat . We visited the Bowling Green on Saturday night. On arrival we ordered drinks and food and eagerly awaited our meals. And waited. And waited. And waited some more. After 90 minutes we questioned staff as to why our meals were not ready, we were told it was busy and our meals would arrive soon. Three of the four meals arrived after a two hour wait. Items were missing from one meal, and another was burnt. One didn’t arrive at all. This seemed to be a common theme with other customers, we witnessed two groups walk out in disgust and another large group saying they were not happy with their meals.

In the modern, homogenised world of travel, where global brands proliferate, its good to know that there are still untouched corners, where the old world prevails, and where that new fangled ‘Customer Service’ has yet to extend its pesky reach. There are two good things about this pub : the car park and the view from the rear beer garden. Whilst its fairly old that isn't an excuse for the poor condition of the interior which is beyond decrepit. One needs a torch in this pub to find one's way around. But i think the most unimpressive part of the experience is finding a barman busy reading a newspaper who cant be bothered to greet his customers and only responds grudgingly when they speak first. I can only imagine this is the tenant / owner who has probably never had any customer service training and judging by the responses he gives to any criticism by customers on this website he appears incapable of recognising when he isn't getting it right which is clearly fairly often. Cant really understand how this place survives - it cant be on repeat custom.

The food was of the highest quality we all had 3 courses and coffee and mince pies for £19.95 each, great value. We all had different starters, all excellent then 3 of us had turkey and 1 had salmon served with fresh vegetables and all the extras you would expect. The deserts were again outstanding. Sadly the mince pies defeated us!! We will definitely be back not only for the food but the lovely and friendly atmosphere. Thank you for a very enjoyable start to the festive season.

As a Yorkshireman visiting the area, the Yorkshire Puddings were perfect.

I'm writing this lying down after overeating at this lovely old pub. We stopped in on a Friday night being around the corner from our B&B to find a warm welcome from staff and a good buzz from the local crowd. Mrs M went for the half size pie option (it was still a good size) but I couldn't resist the full "Desperate Dan" having seem the great looking food coming out of the kitchen. It came with fluffy chips to soak up the excellent gravy and peas. I absolutely wolfed it down with a pint of local beer. Would I feel more comfortable if I'd gone for the half, probably. Any regrets, not a bit! Go and enjoy

Even though we arrived 5 minutes after food service had stopped, the kitchen was OK with us ordering a couple of hot sandwiches as long as we were quick, (BLT & Sausage/Onion). Staff very friendly.

We have just spend another week in Bradwell, eating out only at the Bowling Green. The pub is just want you want in the countryside, warm, welcoming with excellent food and friendly service. Every year we visit Bradwell, sometimes with family and everyone always wants to visit here before we've unpacked. Definitely be back.

I went with two friends for a meal on Boxing Day. This is such a lovely country pub, homely, friendly, clean. Even on Boxing Day,the carvery was £9.95 which was amazing value. The food was very good. As I don't eat meat, a cod loin was provided for me. I could certainly recommend.

We enjoyed our stay at this inn. The room was clean and comfortable but small. Our only complaint was lack of space for our luggage. We were surprised at how quiet it was. We were happy to have a first floor room with bath. The breakfast was very nice and the time was convenient. The staff was friendly and efficient. Good value. We would definitely stay again.

A lovely local pub with an excellent menu. The food was deliciously presented, very well priced and cooked to perfection. Value for money was outstanding. It was pub grub that delivered in every aspect. The staff were very attentive and one of the waitresses. named Lauren was very courteous and paid a great deal of attention to detail. The owners of this particular establishment should be very proud of their staff and in particular Lauren and the Chef.

The food was wholesome and tasty. I had Lamb shank, with veg and mash, all well cooked, followed by an Ice cream sundae. My wife had Gammon, egg and chips followed by hot chocolate fudge cake, again everything was well cooked. We would have no hesitation in recommending this place if you are in the area.

Met my family at this venue for a get together. The bar staff were excellent remembering who had what drink very polite and friendly. The food was served in a timely manner and was delicious. I ordered Salmon and it melted in my mouth, the other members of my group also commented how nice the food was. This is not the first time I have eaten here. They also offer ensuite accommodation above the inn which I found very comfortable and reasonably priced. I highly recommend this place if you find yourself in the area

Having had a pretty awful experience at the Whitworth terrace cafe I came here with my parents for lunch. We had toasted sandwiches which were well made, tasty and well presented with a lovely crunchy salad. The staff were friendly and attentive. I would recommend this cafe to anyone.

Lovely place. People pleasant enough. Ordered some food. Should have taken 20 mins tops. Over an hour later still not had food. It was just a steak sandwich, which it said came with onion chutney. Crispy piece of steak with a few fried onions. Cold chips and onion rings that were sitting in oil. A couple that came in about 45 mins after us received there food first, and that was 2 curry dishes. Was told the steak took longer than the curry????

First of all it is an extremely clean pub / hotel and I agree dogs shouldn't be allowed every where. We have witnessed dogs sitting at tables in other pubs ..not in Bakewell. But we called in early doors last evening for a quick drink whilst waiting for the bus. Crikey talk about a frosty. . reception ...not from the young lady greeter but from the bar staff...we were told to sit in the back of the pub if we were only drinking..it was soulless . Not somewhere I would consider eating. Came back to Baslow for a lovely greeting.

Ive reviewed this place before as its our go to. We have been many times. We just got back from one night stay in the annex where we usually stay. We have never had any issues before but last night was a bit disappointing. The bathroom needs cleaning properly. The tiles and the drip bar under the shower door was terrible. The bath panel had been broken and not repaired and the bottom of the bathroom door was broken so we couldn't close it. There was dust on the headboard too. Late last night as we were tucked up in bed, the fire alarms went off so we shuffled outside in pjs and coats. No staff around. We went to Reception and ended up in the bar. No explanation really so that was a bit unnerving. This is our go to and i really want them to get standards back up. I dont want to start trying to find alternative places to stay but if it doesn't improve then we may have to next time.
