Disappointing - seating is first come first served, this is the second time we’ve visited as wanted to give it another chance and both times nobody even bothers to greet you or say hello as you arrive. First visit was towards closing time and we felt as though we were being rushed as we were the only ones left even though it didn’t close for another 45 minutes. This time we went at breakfast, the food came out less than 10 minutes after ordering (it had obviously just been sat and wasn’t fresh) it was cold, the toast was stale and the whole breakfast didn’t taste of much. It is a lovely space with great potential but unfortunately we haven’t experienced a very warm or friendly atmosphere at all, in our experience staff haven’t been at all welcoming or accommodating with young children either and sadly the food dissapointed too. I must note that the gift shop staff are extremely friendly.

We visited this wonderful place for breakfast this morning...the breakfast was excellent. Piping hot food served swiftly and with a smile...the shops have some beautiful Christmas gifts with free gift wrapping offered....but, the main thing I was impressed with this morning was the total respect for our Fallen...they informed everyone that they were honouring the two minutes silence at eleven o'clock for Remembrance Sunday...Well done and thank you Bottle Kiln, it means so much...

Come here every few weeks. But today had quiche with mixed salad. Problem was brown leaves in salad not good. The rest was ok I did take plate back with evidence but nobody came to have a word. Quiche was dry and not hot. Normally foods excellent. Perhaps being around 3 pm we get what's left. Did not bother with sweat treat this time due to what's happened.

We enjoyed our time at the Bottle Kiln as we were able on a lovely day to sit in the beautiful Japanese style garden. The lunch itself was disappointing though. We ordered quiche which had a tough and tasteless wholemeal pastry base, and a summer salad which wasn't great at all.

Now, where do I start? Our friends took us to the Bottle Kiln for lunch and despite eating out in literally hundreds of places in our area, we had never heard of it, so were eager to try a different venue and pre reading that it was a privately owned restaurant, made it more appealing. We arrived about 11:30 and were amazed to find the place was almost full, but were fortunate enough to get a table. We had lunch with Jay choosing the pie, Dee choosing a quiche and Frank and I choosing the grilled bacon and stilton sandwich. We didn't  have to wait very long for the food to arrive and it looked delicious, but I did  look at Jay's choice - an exceedingly generous presentation  - and said, 'You're never ever going to eat all that', but he did and clearly enjoyed every fork full.  All the food was absolutely delicious and clearly prepared and served with the aim of quality. We couldn't fault it even though Frank and I had to take some of our food home. Looking around at other guest's tables , we could see that reflected with other obviously happy diners! We were all too full to even contemplate a dessert, but took lemon meringues and fruit roulades home with us after convincing myself that they were not only non fattening, but could even possibly contribute towards weight loss!   Again, without exception, all the staff were friendly and professional and clearly enjoyed their jobs  - a well deserved pat on their backs please! All in all, it really was a lovely atmosphere.  I found the building, the shop with so much unusual quality merchandise and the beautiful Japanese garden so interesting and it really did enhance our visit. Hopefully, next time the weather will be better and we can dine outside.  A huge thank you to all involved. xx I have to add, that if you are looking for a really different, quality venue, you must try the Bottle Kiln - it really is a great choice.

Absolutely horrified after paying for breakfast for my Husband and, nothing exotic. 1 bacon and egg sandwich. Along with 1 scrambled egg on toast. Having gone to put said Sandwich in my mouth. To be greeted with Green Mouldy Bread. Husband has then returned this back to the counter. Oh we will exchange this. Too dam right you will. No apology no nothing from anyone. For a new Sandwich to be given to me with a "there you go" still no apology. Lady frim behind the counter comes round the corner "ohhhh lovely hair, how was breakfast." Moldy I have replied." I'll get this sorted". Never saw her again. Boss was in as he spoke to us when he came in. We have eaten here on many occasions but will never eat there again. Anyone eating here needs to be checking anything served to them

Disappointing quiche- strange concoction of sausage and red onion chutney which was less than tepid and heavy, brown pastry. Friend had the stew recommended by the lady serving which came with two thick slices of bread and mainly consisted of only a small amount of meat and mainly a large dumpling. Neither of us impressed with the food and wouldn’t go back. Place was absolutely packed out but I don’t understand why!

Having visited Bottle kiln for many years, and having never been disappointed, we were shocked to find that the cake and two scones we ordered were bland / burnt / hard and inedible. When we reported this to the Manager, he was extremely rude!! And when we asked if we could swap for a different slice of cake he had the cheek to try and charge us a £1.75 surcharge. Won’t be coming back here again and I suffer the manager changes his attitude.

First visit to The Bottle Kiln and won't be the last! Had the vegan jacket potatoes, one chilli and one avocado with chilli jam, served with a delicious side salad, both were exceptional and great portion sizes. Topped off with an equally delicious vegan lemon drizzle cake. Although busy, meals and drinks arrived very quickly. Staff were absolutely fantastic, friendly and so accommodating. Would highly recommend and will definitely be regular visitors, already planning to return for the vegan breakfast, and weather permitting sit outside to eat in the peaceful and very calm serenity zen like garden at the back of the restaurant. Well done The Bottle Kiln for such clean, calm and fantastic place to eat and wander round the lovely gift shops, all the staff are an absolute credit to the business.

Sister and I are regular ladies that lunch here , a few times a year anyway. Quiche and mixed salad has always been our choice . You normally get imaginative fillings and tasty interesting salads that would be time consuming to do yourself so is a treat. We had the tomato and Parmesan quiche which was much denser than normal very cheesy with a lot of tomato skin. The pastry normally short and delicious was chewy ( tasted over microwaved) the salads were green, couscous with few chopped peppers which was very bland and some potato salad that was nice. We were very disappointed that our reliable favourite venue seems to have gone down . 13.95 is a lot for this when we were previously happy to pay for the pleasure. Hope it was a blip !!

To be fair to the bottle kiln the food is lovely ( it is on the expensive side but it is beautiful food) my reason for 2 stars is that last time we visited I was asked to leave because my 15 month old daughter was ‘too noisy’. ( to be clear she was no more noisy than any other 15 month old and anyone could see I spent my whole time there entertaining her with books) As a parent who finds taking a baby out for lunch stressful and un enjoyable anyway, to have this happen was mortifying. I left incredibly embarrassed and wrote them a polite email suggesting that maybe they shouldn’t allow children in to the venue at all to avoid anyone else feeling the way I did. I assumed that as they provided high chairs they were a ‘child friendly’ place. I wanted to share my feelings in private rather than leave a public review but unfortunately they didn’t respond to my email

We love the experience of having afternoon teas and enjoy that fairly regularly at different venues However, this was at a different level, with so many tasty treats including BottleKiln’s signature quiches, presented in a creative and contemporary way. We enjoyed a glass of Prosecco, had pots of tea ‘on tap’ and enough treats to bring some home as a snack for later. Thank you for making this birthday treat such a great experience; we will for sure be back. Mark and Betsie

We have just got home from the most gorgeous visit to The Bottle Kiln. We were gifted a voucher for Christmas and have just got round to using it. We were firstly greeted with a smile from Di and she talked us through the Afternoon Tea set up. When the afternoon tea was served, it was very impressive indeed. It was served on two levels (sweet and savoury). We were given tips such ‘pace yourself’, ‘let me know when you’ve finished your savoury and I will you new cutlery for the sweet section’ and the all important ‘there are boxes if you cannot finish it’. We had two different types of quiches (veggie and meat based) and cheese scones in our savoury tier and then brownies, fruit scones (jam, cream and strawberries included), Bakewell tart and Victoria sponge... wow! All were just perfect! We have said this is one of the best afternoon teas we have had! We would totally recommend The Bottle Kiln for afternoon tea and Di was just simply delightful as our waitress! Thank you!

Arrived around 1:30pm for lunch. Of the three 'signature dishes' they do, they'd run out of frittata and pie. We selected one of the quiches on offer, to be informed after a lengthy wait that they'd run out of that too and that the only one they could do had sweet potato in it. Sweet potato, in a quiche? I elected to just have soup of the day. When it arrived, after another lengthy wait, it was distinctly nasty - a sort of grey/green sludge tasting faintly of aniseed and not much else.Service has always been hit-and-miss at the Bottle Kiln, but they attained a new low today. There were people who'd arrived after us finishing their meals while we were still waiting for ours to arrive.Yes, I know 'these are difficult times' but the problems of running out of food and piss-poor service are long-running ones at the Bottle Kiln; and other eateries we visit are managing far better under the current restrictions. It'll be a cold day in hell before I'm back.

As usual a lovely cup of coffee. We sat in their lovely garden with their lovely views, on this hottest day this summer.

Table service if you want to sit inside but I decided to sit in the garden so it was takeaway service, coffee and scone were excellent and the service was spot on. Information boards and arrows on the floor telling you were to go but some customers seem oblivious to them, it might be better if a member of staff was at the door directing customers?

After waiting a long 4 months my favourite lunch spot finally reopened! And boy can I tell you it was worth the wait! The measures they have put in place to keep everyone safe were fantastic! The food is still incredible (see the photo I sent to my friend, it definitely highlights my excitement!!). Highly recommend the pie! It’s my go dish to every time! As it had been such a long time little miss piggy here ordered two cakes!! (One to take home for later) I’m so happy to return! The staff remain amazing, such good customer service. They are so friendly and lovely. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. I love it! If you have no visited this place you need to!

I would reiterate a review I’ve just read regarding the pedantic lady who did not allow me to place a lunch order because it was 11:56. She was very curt and quite frankly rude and I am a was a regular Lunch customer. She said there was a notice to say that orders can’t be placed until 12 noon at which point I corrected her and said the sign says “lunch will not be served until 12 noon “. She then made a ridiculous counter argument that McDonald’s don’t serve breakfast after 11:30. She stated to me the chef won’t allow orders to be placed before 12 - again a ridiculous thing to say to a customer. My mum and I were so annoyed by the whole incident we haven’t been back for lunch since and only go to visit the shop where the staff are lovely - they need them in the restaurant. Given the prices at the Bottle Kiln table/seated ordering should be part of the service.

We visited as a family of 4 on Saturday 22 February. We arrived at 11:40pm. The lady that served us advised that lunch menu was available from midday. We asked what the soup of the day was and she said we would have to wait until the specials board came out and that signaled the start of lunch order. We decided to order some drinks as we were advised we were in the brunch time period. I asked if they served coke, the lady responded “No we don’t serve coke and if I’m brutally honest we never will”. A good start. The specials board came out at 11:55 with the big reveal for the soup of the day. I decided to wait a few minutes and go up at 11:57 to chance my arm at ordering lunch. I was told by the same lady that lunch could not be ordered until midday even though the specials board was out and she would call me back when I could order. I sat down and at 11:58 was called back to order lunch. I advised the lady that I thought the whole process was pedantic. After all I was still ordering 2 minutes before I officially should have.I thought the whole experience and customer service was awful and “to be brutally honest” I won’t be providing my custom again.

In a previous review we had written that we had enjoyed the food but felt that being unable to book a table was a real problem for us. However, this was solved by the supper evening which was a very pleasant experience. We both tucked into three wholesome courses: courgette and fennel soup, slow cooked loin of pork with cabbage and dauphinoise potatoes, bread and butter pudding and a memorable Eton mess. The main course just lacked a second vegetable. Full marks go to the organisation of the evening, which included a warming ambience. We certainly plan to return for the next occasion.

We frequently travel the 15 miles or so from our home to the Bottle Kiln because the quality is exceptional. On our latest visit, we arrived in a particularly busy day. After parking up in a side road we had to wait around 10 minutes before a table became available. We browsed in the shop but were soon shown to our table. Contrary to another recent review we have always found the staff very amiable and friendly with tables being cleared quickly and efficiently. We ordered a quiche and frittata - both of which were served with a substantial salad consisting of salad leaves, rice, potato salad, baby tomatoes, grated carrots and sultanas, cucumber and coleslaw. All set off with a lovely salad dressing. The quiche and frittata were both home made and tasted delightful. Water was available alongside our hot drinks. We do not consider that the cost is expensive. The total cost of our two meals with hot drinks was £28 which compares favourably with the prices we were paying here some 10 years ago when we first discovered the kiln.Tip - try the Lemon Meringue - you will not be disappointed. The quality of all the food is second to none and all home made.

Very busy on a February Tuesday lunchtime - so they clearly have a supportive customer base. Car parking was a challenge as it is very tight - but once you get in, then the next challenge is to find a table. The lady at the till by the food counter was not helpful as we tried to work out what to do and what was on the menu. She doesn't take prisoners!! We eventually found a table which had not been cleared and went back to the counter to order our food - which was OK, but not great for the price charged. The waitress who eventually cleared our table clearly did not enjoy her job, and we had to ask for napkins/serviettes which were not available at the self-service cutlery station. For the price, I expect full table service. The food was OK - but fairly highly priced for what we were served.Clearly the place is popular - but it could be so much better. I would not go back for the same experience/food.

Cafe busy as usual for lunchtime, with a short queue at the counter to order. The chap came back to say my choice - fish cakes- had sold out. My second choice was quiche. After a while one of the serving staff came over to apologise that the quiche was also sold out. Third choice, then - lasagne served with garlic bread, coleslaw and “signature salad”. Salad at the BK used to mean generous spoonfuls of a variety of mixed salads - rice, pasta, etc, and all very tasty. Sadly it seems to have dwindled to a few dressed leaves and a bit of red pepper. Lasagne was ok, that’s all. Sorry Bk, if this is the standard of offering now it is overpriced and not very special, certainly not worth bringing visitors for a “treat”.

It’s a lovely place but disappointed by the price of food. I ordered the asparagus, houmous and fried egg and it was £8.00 for one slice of toast with houmous, one egg and 3 asparagus’s. Just expected more for that especially with the fact you have to go up and order at the till and get your own cutlery and water.

Ok visit nice shops (albeit only 2 of them) but the lady in the shop was a bit snooty...cafe absolutely rammed on a weekday morning and the fact that people in a wheelchair cant reserve a table on the ground floor is almost discrimination. Lady in restaurant was very pleasant though. I wont be visiting again because our visit was over in 40 mins due to cafe being full and shops cramped for disabled but it was ok

Had not been here for several years but went on 10th November and found it rather expensive now. They serve breakfast items early and Sunday lunch later. My son would not eat the lunch items but we were just before the cut-off time, so we asked if we could order drinks, a breakfast and three lunches for when they started serving - we did not mind waiting for those. Staff were fairly pleasant but they said they could not take the lunch orders early and asked me to swipe my card for the drinks and breakfast and said they would then take a combined payment when we ordered lunch. When I got my card bill I found that they had actually taken the charge the first time so we had ended up paying twice for the breakfast and drinks - will not be going back.

We decided to risk a visit last Thursday and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal of parsnip, apple and honey soup with sourdough bread followed by main courses of chicken and mushroom carbonara and frittata.. However, we arrived just in time to get a parking space and table before queues developed. This confirmed our fears of a possible long wait or even no chance of eating. The policy of only taking table bookings for four or more people makes it unlikely that we will visit again even though we were very well looked after.

Wow, just ordered a soup and a coffee -£9.45! It wasn't that great either, cauliflower cheese. I've made much better myself. This is disappointing as it's one of my favourite places to come, but the prices have increased a lot since last time!

This has always been a very popular good quality cafe/restaurant. Visited recently having not been for a few months and the new system of being able to get a table before ordering food was much better and did not feel as stressful as previously.
