The Bothy at Boglily in Fife

What a disappointment. I found the Bothy at Boglily on TA, loved the look of the place, the gorgeous photos of cooked food on their site and the good reviews. We are doing a road trip and this was going to be our Sunday morning treat. The car park was jammed with cars and we saw people standing in a queue to pet baby goats. Upon entering the inviting Bothy and asking a young man for a table, we were told that we couldn’t bring our dog in. Fair enough. Not every dining establishment is dog-friendly. Though I was a bit surprised as the restaurant is in a buffalo farm, there’s a petting zoo and it’s in the countryside. The sun was shining so I asked if we could order our meal and sit at the table on the deck, directly next to the door of The Bothy (see photo for proximity). The young man’s response was that they don’t offer takeaway. I queried whether a table one step from the door qualified as takeaway. It reminded me of the TV ad with the man trying to buy potatoes at a farm shop and being told that he can only pay with digital currency. People taking themselves so seriously that they don’t think of the customer experience. We had driven up from our holiday cottage at Kinghorn especially to get a nice cooked breakfast from their lovely menu, so my surprise and disappointment were apparent. I was directed to the outdoor kiosk they call the Milk Bar to order something from their limited selection. We ordered one Double Cheese Toastie with fries, a latte, an affogato milkshake ( made with buffalo milk ice cream) and a scone, which was on their menu. The two lovely servers told me that they don’t sell scones outside and I would have to go to the Bothy Café to get one. When I explained that I had been told up there that I couldn’t get anything from them takeaway, the young woman offered to go get one for me. They were both very sweet and I apologised for my previous grumpiness. Unfortunately, it wasn’t worth the trouble. The cheese toastie and fries were served in a cardboard tray. The toastie was on “cheap white bread” according to my partner. I didn’t taste it. The fries and the milkshake however, were excellent. My scone was dry, cold and crumbled into breadcrumb texture when I tried to spread some butter on it. The crumb was impossible to pick up and eat but my dog liked it. It wasn’t worth eating for me as it then began to rain and we had to head for the car. I can’t help but think that the very cheerful, welcoming and upmarket website promises more than it delivers.

Lovely little place, staff very friendly and attentive, food lovely and fresh, quite pricey but you can’t put a price on delicious food

Excellent food and service at both The Bothy and the food shack outside, the burgers are delish. Beautiful surroundings and a great farm shop too.

Delicious breakfast, cooked to perfection with local produce. Friendly staff happy, to help substitute items. Always a good atmosphere.

Always like a visit here as they have good local produce on their menu, staff friendly and able to advise on any specials that are on that day. While there you can buy fresh farm produce in the farm shop and the children can see goats, hens

Must start with the positives the food is of very good quality and cooked to perfection, the bothy is a lovely setting and has a warm feel to it. Unfortunately for the price that is being offered at £13-£14 for a breakfast the service although fine is only fine, I feel these prices would be fair if the service reflected this, example we were both served tea and coffee in dirty mugs, one had egg up the side the other had coffee stains (not from my coffee) which I couldn't bring myself to drink not acceptable at these prices, another few wee niggles but 100% couldn't fault the food.

Visited during lunch for a bite to eat with husband and teenage daughter. We were seated quickly. However, it should be noted that it does get very busy - good sign! I had the steak sandwich, which was served with small side salad and crisps. Both my husband and daughter had the double burger. Everything was cooked perfectly and delicious. I did feel that a small portion of fries could have been included on the side of the burger. These have to be ordered additionally. Cakes to go were enjoyed. The building is lovely, and the great Buffalo farm shop is adjoining. The food that can be purchased there to make at home is amazing and the best quality.

My first visit; companions had been before. Wanted to order the caprese salad but was told it was now off the menu as they couldn’t get tomatoes! Had a cheese and ham toastie and fries - were good. Companions has the SOTD - lentil. Seems the bread supplier had changed from their last visit. Also the cakes are no longer from a well known baker, but now home made. Home made cakes ok but not as good as previous supplier. Coffees were asked for extra hot but weren’t. The restaurant was busy when we came and quite noisy. But they have a smoothie machine that is in the restaurant area and is very, almost painfully, noisy when in operation. So nothing to say we wouldn’t go back; but could have been much more enjoyable with a few improvements.

Positives: well filled, reasonably priced, filled breakfast roll. Warm and comfortable dining area. Negatives: the staff were drinking their own drinks while 1 staff member made customer drinks. We'd almost finished our rolls before our tea arrived. Orders taken on single tablet for whole premises, which staff member using then took to counter to collect printed order slip (and presumably take to kitchen), then come back for next table's order. Very poor workflow, which leaves staff hanging about

This is my first time at the Buffalo 🦬 Farm and I dropped in for breakfast, I must say it was indeed a pleasure the breakfast was large and the quality high, every item was well seasoned and well cooked the breakfast came out hot and no sign of oil, perfect ! The Bothy is a wonderful location very comfortable and creates a wonderful atmosphere. I can highly recommend a visit.

We had been looking forward to this visit for a long time after seeing the farm appear on the tv programme. But we were extremely disappointed on our visit. The car park had many deep potholes and generally the appearance of the establishment was very untidy. In the Bothy we ordered a Buffalo Burger which was extremely thin in fact the tomato was thicker than the burger. The burger had no taste whatsoever. However we enjoyed the Buffalo Mozzarella and Black Pudding Toastie Toilets were disgusting and also hand dryer broken and no hand towels to dry hands. We went with every intention with our cool box to buy products to take home for the family BBQ but left with no purchases.

Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to the The Bothy at Boglily, travelled from Helensburgh after trying a home delivery of their buffalo burgers etc. it did not disappoint. The food was excellent, the service was friendly and efficient. I was desperate to try the buffalo ice cream and it was just so delicious, thick and creamy. If the ice cream could be home delivered then that would just be fantastic. Bought some goodies from the farm shop just to keep me going until my next home delivery overnight. Some delicious mozzarella cheese, once you have had the buffalo mozzarella from here no other brand will do. We are already planning our next trip through but will have freezer bags and iced packs with us!!

Great breakfast menu and fantastic service from the whole team at Bogilly. We had the eggs royale and it was faultless. Eggs poached to perfection, generous amounts of hot smoked salmon and a silky smooth hollandaise sauce. And our morning was finished of with a wee peak at the new baby goats 😍 which are too cute.

Couldn't fault the place at all , we went in for a light lunch but came out very full . We had the gammon toastie special and it was incredible . Lots of delicious gammon with salad and a huge pile of fries , the side salad was excellent with a tasty dressing . We will definitely be back at some point
