Nisse and his team organised a special Menu for my daughters 30th birthday for 20+people on a busy saturday evening. Catered to all dietary requests. Very attentive to all guests

Made a huge fuss about whether we had booked or not, despite it being the middle of the afternoon and the place being almost empty, then they stuck us at a table in the middle of the floor. A request to move was reluctantly accepted. Menu pretty uninspiring and service grumpy. Had a starter then went elsewhere.

Loved it !.. great food and fantastic atmosphere, the night was extremely busy in the restaurant, but the staff handled it very well and we left delighted

Popped in just for a drink and were directed to a communal, long, thin table for 10, right in front of the kitchen. There was another chap there having a solo meal. We had a few games of cards with our drinks and liked the atmosphere so much we ended up having some haggis bites and houmous. All was excellent. Really buzzing place. All staff super friendly. Wide range of drinks. Would go again, for a full dinner.

Had the £60 burger and wine deal. Probably one of the most succulent burgers I've had. Good value for the money. Only moan would be that we asked 4 times for water and it never came. I was tempted to ask for the 10% standard service charge to be removed.

Had an amazing meal here, Kelsey was our waitress and met all of our needs, made sure everything was right for us and was overall amazing! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a fantastic meal and great service!

Lovely food terrible customer service. The night started fine with menu’s given to us and drinks and food order taken and food brought to table. After we had finished our main meal we asked for 5 mins before looking at the dessert menu. We never saw a member of staff after that. Our waitress went on her break and nobody bothered with us after that. No offer of more drinks or the dessert menu’s. So after being totally ignored for 20 odd mins we decided to leave and had to go to the door/till to ask for the bill as we were leaving. The staff were more bothered about clearing a space for the ceilidh than serving paying customers . Would defo put me off going back and there is no excuse for poor customer service and it wasn’t due to lack of staff, just staff doing other things but attend to customers

Table booked for 1.30, gave our orders a waited and waited a good 45 mins later food arrived , over cooked chicken royals, haggis needs and tatties were nice and vegan burger, tagliatelle could have done with small piece of bread or a spoon to get to the sauce, not enought attention to customers , we did get a 20% discount and waiter apologies but also charged service fee which I feel should be at diners discretion as if food not great and service poor you can tip accordingly, not over impressed and won't be hurrying back , hopefully just an off day

The waiting staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. It's a pity they have to deal with bad decisions from management in the dining room and/or in the kitchen. We waited about an hour and a half for our food because a large party (looked about 8 people) had arrived before us. I assume that, like us, they had to reserve, which reveals a severe lack of planning on the restaurant management's part. No offer of bread/olives etc while we waited. Free drinks and dessert as well as a 25 percent reduction given as recompense. That's all well and good and to be expected. However, we would much rather have had our meal on time as it was a special occasion. I felt sorry for the lovely waiting staff team members who were the ones on the front line having to fix the mess caused by managerial ineptitude.

Exceptionally average. Was expecting far better. Good Cullen skink. Nothing overly special but a good classic starter. Venison salami was something we'd not had before, enjoyed but bland. "Chicken Supreme" was not chicken Supreme, but instead was a roast dinner. Was nice enough for what it was, but not as advertised. Pear accompaniment was not ripe and had barely any taste. Prawn tagliatelle was far too heavy, tasted and felt like a bucket of cream on the pallet. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE PRICETAG. Menu was severely lacking in our opinion with absolutely nothing special or interesting. Disappointed.

We had an amazing evening at Forgan's, we read a review on TripAdvisor and it looked great and we were not disappointed. We turned up at 8pm without a booking and were so lucky they found a space for us. Food was amazing, I had a flatiron steak and my girlfriend had salmon. Our server Kelsey was outstanding, a wonderful bubbly & friendly personality and super attentive. We upgraded to truffle fries and we both had desert: sticky toffee pudding & apple tart. At 9:30pm a ceilidh band started and we had an amazing evening of live music. Highly recommend a visit to Forgan's when you visit St Andrews.

We visited Forgan’s St Andrews last week for a new year’s treat. We were a party of 8 adults, 2 babies and a 4 year old. We had paid a deposit of £120 to secure our booking beforehand. It took up to 15 minutes for someone to ask if we wanted a drink and on your menu it says to ask your server for cocktails that may be on your menu. I asked for a spicy margarita and was told ‘no chillies so can’t do it’ I asked for a Bloody Mary but was told you don’t have Tabasco. Two very basic ingredients for a kitchen so was a little disappointed in this. We ordered 2 alcoholic cocktails and 2 non alcoholic cocktails due to two members of the party being heavily pregnant. After waiting 40 minutes for drinks to arrive, 1 cocktail came out with two straws and 2 cocktails had one straw. The man seemed very confused and named the cocktail but didn’t specify whether this was alcoholic or not, after asking he nodded and put it down in front of me. I tried the cocktail and could taste alcohol. My two friends who both are pregnant were told that their cocktails were non alcoholic but they in fact had alcohol in them. I had to find someone to complain too. Meanwhile the last cocktail still had not arrived. We waited a significant amount of time for this mistake to be fixed. We still had not ordered our food. When our server came to take the order we were told that we couldn’t get so much of what was on the menu and the server could not actually tell us exactly what we could not order. It was a shambles. So we played it safe and a majority of us ordered a burger, one tagliatelle and one ox cheek dish plus starters. The bread was stale it was inedible. When the main meals eventually came out, a lot of the meals were cold as if they had been sitting for a long duration. My friend who is pregnant had a tagliatelle with prawns and refused to eat it as she tried a prawn and it tasted undercooked. A lot of plates were left untouched which is shocking at the prices of your restaurant. The server came over and did not ask us how are meal was, the plates were just being taken away. One of us said to the server ‘excuse me this tagliatelle is cold and the prawns are not cooked’ and he said ‘aw sorry’ and walked away with the plate? Just not good enough. A child’s dessert was ordered and this was not brought out at all. After complaining to what seemed like a manager, she did discount the meal and apologised. I feel so disheartened that this was always a place where myself and my partner would come every year for Christmas and summer holidays for good food and service. Sad to have had this experience as I do not feel as though I’d return now. Extremely disappointing. It’s a lot of money for poor service and poor food.

Had the worst fish and chips in history, we had my wife’s 50th birthday party there today. Over 1 hour to get drinks to the table. They had no tagaletelli and swapped out with mac and cheese with a few prawns. I sent my fish back as there was zero fish in the batter and the second time it was worse at £19😳 I felt quite angry as Birdseye would have been better. I normally do the British thing and don’t complain but as I was in Scotland and hungry so I made a complaint. Heard multiple tables complaining and to be honest it was full of customers and for two chefs and limited staff if they had been honest and said we have limited staff it’s soup for starter and burgers or fish and chips done well on the menu that would have been great. 😔 not a great start to 2025

Pretty restaurant but sadly the food just isn't at the right level for the price. Cullen skink was great but the bread was stale. Mushroom Gnocchi was overcooked and the flavor was quite basic definitely not £22 Gnocchi. Burgers were also average.

Fresh produce obtained locally. Food all freshly prepared, taste good but price a bit steep.

Started visiting Forgan’s over 10 years ago, but a recent visit was a disappointment. Has become much more expensive for small portions, sides arrived 10 mins after mains, table was very wobbly, someone kept fiddling with the music, and we even heard one of the waiting staff tell another “I’m off for two weeks” “where are you going?” “No where - just away from here” - not a positive review from the staff themselves!

Good food and great environment. Ideal for groups since you can get a 10-12 person table in an almost isolated room. The haggis Bon bons are a must try

Wow. A beautiful restaurant with incredible food! Portions are perfect, not too much that you are bursting at the seams, but enough to feel satisfied. Wrap up when visiting the toilets in winter, brrr.

Great little find tucked back off of the main street. It's not immediately obvious from the street that this is a tip class restaurant but it doesn't disappoint.

Ordered steak and the meat was incredible though. Same for 2 more people on my party. They gave us a discount on the bill but the experience was ruined. And for the price they charge, the expectation was high. Restaurant Did not deliver on that expectation. Service was ok.

The fixed menu for the thanksgiving meal sounded good but everything was just a bit off and the meat was over cooked. To be fair they were slammed busy and being an American I was probably expecting too much. I would not let this experience detour trying them again

We booked a table for 10 in Forgan's for Sunday lunch.After reading mixed reviews we didn't expect much but let me just say, 5 stars all the way! Our food was delicious and arrived all in the same time,which was impressive for such a big group.Vinnie was very friendly and answered question about the menu. Overall ,amazing food and service,beautiful interior and easy parking. Thank you Forgan's, will be coming back next month!

Nice deco but the food disappointed

Just like the Ferry restaurant. The food was mmmm ok. Fries I thought were a little overcooked, pretty solid, and the possibility of a lost tooth.. Flat iron steak was a little over charred/ dirty griddle. Service was disappointing, a little rude, and disinterested, we all thought. Over heard another table saying the same. Will not be back and will not recommend it. Setting is lovely.

Beautiful location. Very friendly staff who found us a table even without a reservation. Quick service and delicious dishes. Prices slightly above average but still honest. Clean and well-kept bathrooms.

Slightly loud music, but we were right under a speaker. Couldn't fault the food as it was excellent. We ended up waiting a while, but this was acknowledged by the staff and recognised with a discount on the bill. This was deeply appreciated, especially as we were entertaining external collaborators. Highly recommend the churros!

We visited Forgan's the day before our wedding with a group of about 20 people and had an amazing lunch. The food was great, as always, and the service was brilliant - especially given that we were a big group. Have always recommended for couples and families, will now recommend for big groups too!

How can you charge £13.50 for a glass of house wine ? That’s a new record for me 🤔. Even in Edinburgh you don’t get charged that kind of prices.

Apart from the fantastic service from Vinni there were far too many problems. 3 x Artisan breads with whipped butter uneaten as the breads were not Artisan, the butter was not whipped but little portions in wrappers you would get at a greasy spoon. The Crustini was not toasted. The haggis bon bons that were served up were the size of grapes. 3 x well done burgers were presented virtually raw and again inedible. 1 was also full of hairs !!!. 1 x potato cheese & onion pie with no onions and the accompanying broccoli stems served on top of the pie. 2 x sides of mushrooms served in very hot platters but somehow they were stone cold ?. This venue was picked by my daughter as it was her birthday and she had visited several times in the past with good experiences, but this one completely ruined her birthday.!. 4 people out of 8 (one 4 years old) were left hungry with 3 only having a desert due to the starter and mains, and 1 only having a starter and desert. We were told there would be 40% of the bill, but somehow even after our £80 deposit was taken off there was still £201 to pay !?.

A really disappointing visit. We have been coming for many years and were looking forward to a lovely birthday meal. Unfortunately standards have slipped massively. Firstly the communication when booking the meal was very very poor. We made a request regarding bringing a cake etc which was just totally ignored. The menu is extremely limited and not what it used to be, then coupled with the fact that allot of the items were unavailable last night made the options very very narrow. I've never seen a menu without a chicken option.. ever! The menu selection was so poor my 60 year old mother had to choose the burger for her dinner like a teenager - embarrassing. Said burger was then served raw to her after asking for it to be well done, along with the 2 other burgers that had been ordered. The food that was served was not as described on the menu at all. The price point is way of the mark for what is being delivered. "Artisan bread with whipped butter" The butter is just butter in foil - Nothing whipped about it. If you are not serving whipped butter at least put the butter in a dish and not just throw a few foiled butters on a plate. "Harrisa Hoummus with Crostini" No Crostini was served - just a standard piece of bread - Not even toasted. Kids Cheesy Garlic Bread - No Cheese Mushroom sides for the steaks were served cold. Hair found on the chips that were served with the raw burgers. The toilets were also absolutely disgusting. Even the stairs leading up to the toilets were disgusting. There was a catalogue of errors that just became completely embarrassing. We actually wondered if the main course had been served to us deliberately raw and with hair after initially complaining regarding the starters. This all surely couldn't be a coincidence or are we just the most unlikeliest diners to set foot over the door? The staff however I must say were lovely and dealt with our concerns appropriately and the service was great. Vini our server was excellent and really done his best given the circumstances. All in all the birthday meal was a disaster and all round embarrassing from start to finish. Half of the family left hungry and after years of being customers last night will unfortunately be our last.

Stunning place! Everyone said hello as you walked in, stood aside to let you pass, our orders were took very quickly and the food/drinks arrived even quicker!! I am not a big fan of meat in general and have only ever had steak a few times as not a huge fan but had the 10oz sirloin and ate the lot it was just beautiful. Can not recommend this place enough.

Very popular place, but lacking in atmosphere, service is unbelievably slow, drinks list is competitively priced, in a town with a larger selection of venues, Forgan's would struggle.

We were a family group of 12 adults and a beautiful guide dog. This was a special get-together of family from Australia, USA, and Scotland. As a large group booking, they asked us a few days earlier to pre- book our main course order which we did. When we arrived and sat down, the waiter came to take our drinks order, and when one of us asked for Fanta, he snapped back with aggression and rudeness (maybe he thought he was funny but none of us thought so) we all got annoyed with him. We asked to take q picture of the group and he sniggered at the phone given to him, we took it back and gave him another phone to take the picture with. When the food order came they got it all wrong and tried to imply we ordered it, so we showed them the list and confirmation and they apologised and proceeded to correct the order, which took even longer to reach us. The food was of a high standard and delicious- steaks/steak sandwich, burgers, haggis, fish n chips. When they were clearing the table, one of the waiters was chewing gum (not accepted in a supposedly fine dining). We ordered desserts the same waiter was more obnoxious. Unanimously we agreed they do not deserve the service charge of 10%. We asked for the bill and the same waiter brought the bill and kept hovering around. He then realised he was annoying us so moved away. 5minutes later he returned just as we're about to pay to say sorry the manager has given a discount for the error made with the food order. We wanted to also remove the 10% service charge as they did not deliver a fine dinning service, but didn't want to stay any longer. With the guide dog, he commented quite rudely (thinking he was funny) about the dog about him lying on the floor, and avoiding stepping on him (how careless is this waiter). Also, common sense would have meant the staff should have brought water for the guide dog (signage on entrance that only guide dogs are allowed). Despite the diabolically poor service, we had a brilliant time with the whole family. We definitely will not recommend the restaurant because of their awful service.

Had seen some of the other reviews and was considering eating elsewhere, however the decor looked great and the atmosphere inside seemed lively, so we decided to settled with our choice. We were seated by a lovely young man named Diego who told us despite it being busy they had room for us if told we understood that there was a potential wait for the food. We had a ‘market menu’ offered to us with Fish Cakes and a fish burger on it, these were both really good and presented nicely. Wasn’t too long of a wait and our server even sorted out a small issue with our drinks within a matter of minutes. Apparently this market menu is going to change every few weeks or so, which if we are ever back in St Andrews would be cool to see what else they come up with.

Not just food, but a great experience too. Staff was incredibly friendly. We had a baby with us, and it was an easy experience. Roasts were incredible, especially the lamb. All in all, would recommend it without reserve!

Great atmosphere but inedible food. We got a hockey puck of a wagyu burger, a well done steak (asked for medium rare), a pasta dish with a sandlike texture throughout it that we couldn’t identify, and one edible seafood pasta. I’ve never sent a meal back in my entire life and have a moral revulsion even to the idea of doing so as a former restaurant employee, but I couldn’t eat this burger and can no longer hold my moral high ground. We’ll actually I didn’t send it back because I wasn’t confident the kitchen could replace it with something worth the money they were going to charge me.

Great Scottish restaurant with lots of vegetarian options on the menu! Fabulous wine selection too. They seated us without a booking, though the place was busy, and we knew we'd need to finish up to free up the table for them for a later booking. Great food, and great atmosphere!

Forgan's, St Andrews - September 2024 We recently had the pleasure of visiting the charming town of St Andrews, Scotland, while visiting our son, Kiro, studying philosophy at the university there. The journey from home, London, is quite long, but it is well worth it when you arrive in this beautiful, historic town with enchanting streets. On Sunday, 22nd September 2024, after a day of exploring, we stopped for a late lunch at around 4pm and came across Forgan’s. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a stylish, urban-industrial feel, immediately catching our eye. The staff was amicable and welcoming, which added to the pleasant atmosphere. The food was decent, though pricey for what we ordered—fish, chips, and burgers. At £160 for four people, we did feel it was pretty overpriced for what we received, especially considering the relatively simple dishes. One minor point: while Forgan aims for an upmarket vibe, the music was surprisingly loud, slightly detracting from the relaxed dining experience. St Andrews is a beautiful town; we’ll be back to explore more. Forgan’s is a lovely spot with excellent service and a stylish interior, but the price was steep for the offering. Thank you for the experience!

I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. The ingredients were top quality, and each dish was perfectly prepared. The service was impeccable, with very attentive and friendly staff. Also, the price was right for the quality of the food. Without a doubt, a place to repeat!

Our first time in St. Andrews and we booked to come here on the basis of the vegetarian options. We weren’t disappointed! Great atmosphere, lovely staff and brilliant food. Forgot to take pics of some of it as we were so busy getting stuck in! I had the Asparagus starter and then the Mushroom Gnocchi - my husband had the Flatbread and Hummus then the Cheese and Potato pie. It was all superb. Will definitely be returning here on our next visit to St Andrews.

Although the service is fantastic, the decor is nice, and the prices are low, the food is average, to say the least.

Focus on how they can push as many tables throughout the day ,not a nice experience,the food was ok.

Was here last Tuesday with a coach party. The high tea was absolutely amazing, the fish and chips were excellent, and the cakes and scones were stupendous. The staff were friendly and helpful and keen. Being able to manage this level of service for a party greater than 100 made our day out. Well done everyone involved!

Hear about the great reputation of this place, however, my wife’s steak came out cold, when asked to rectify this the steak came back cold again- disappointed and unlikely to return

Excellent experience at Forgan’s. I had the beef bourguignon and husband had fish and chips. Marz was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient.

The food was good, well seasoned and worth the lengthy wait between courses. Nice venue and the waiting staff were courteous and polite.

Oh Forgans!!! Been coming here for years but that was very mediocre service and food (at a premium price) - the sirloin was incredibly dry (left under the lamps too long!!). Appreciate you were busy with a wedding and it was Women’s Open Week but service and food normally a lot better than this experience. Sorry but not great!

We enjoyed Sunday lunch here. Quality ingredients and cooked to perfection. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Nice decor and a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Food & service very poor standard - lamb fatty & grisly, not dauphinois potatoes as described on menu, waitress said our complaint would be passed to chef after payment. Most disappointing. Cannot recommend.

Great looking place, tasteful decor. Our group of 4 were seated quickly for lunch on a weekday without prior booking. Staff were reasonably friendly but it took a long while to get their attention. That's fine, j can understand if they were busy. What makes me not want to return however is the COLD food. Two out of the three dishes we ordered were cold: the haggis and fish n chips. For such a fanciful place that promotes itself as a fine dining experience, the food is completely let down by the fact that it's cold. Also there's a discretionary service charge. I asked it to be removed because I wasn't happy about the food, and it was done although the staff seems rather surprised by the request. They shouldn't be. I feel that the restaurant is banking on British people being uncomfortable enough to ask for that to be removed. Why not just increase the menu price by 10%? That's what it's trying to do anyway. It seems that the restaurant is replying to all reviews, so I'm hoping they would see this and use this as a positive note to improve upon.

We went by chance and it was perhaps the best meat we have eaten in Scotland… and we ate very well!!

A disappointing return after last year's visit. Starters were weak - scrawny out of season asparagus and small ceased salad without dressing which had to be requested. Fish and chips were good but poorly presented. Overpriced wine list needs some polish and the menu would benefit from an overhaul. Rest rooms were in poor shape.

Great place for lunch. Beautiful atmosphere, good food, and wonderful service Kelsey was our waitress). I'm happy to recommend having a meal here.

We were seated promptly and after an 11 minute wait our drinks were taken. Our drinks arrived around 5 minutes later. Our food order was then taken. We waited around 25-30 minutes for our starters to come (only 3 of our party of 6 had starters) The price was very high (£7 for 3 haggis bon bons!!!) We then waited around another 45 minutes for our mains. It took the waiter a long time to clear our starters. The mains came, again the price that we paid was extremely high compared to the portions that we received. I paid £28 for the Putter’s plate that came with an item missing! (We never got this as no waiter bothered to come and check on our table!) The pork loin on the bone was very dry and flavourless. Please, if you’re going to put a piece of meat on the bone on your menu, cook it right. The waiters then very quickly decided to try and clear our table when members of our party had not even finished. The drinks selection was fantastic and the drinks that we ordered were very good. Overall, the service was poor, food was poor and the price was exceptionally expensive. I’m not a fan of restaurants who use a team of 5-7 chefs in the kitchen and produce food at that price and quality! Also having 7 members of the waiting staff present and still having to wait so long for food to come and be cleared off our table. I feel that the portions should be bigger, also a closer eye to quality control on food that is leaving the kitchen. If the service was a bit quicker, I don’t feel that this review would be so poor.
