A family favourite for dining in Dunfermline. The food is always excellent and good value although the wine can be a bit pricey. We ate from the Festive tapas menu which was unexpectedly good and beyond our expectations since neither of us would normally choose to eat from a Festive menu. Excellent service. If you are looking for a Christmas gift for someone you could do worse than to buy a gift voucher.

Definitely in my top five restaurants. Superb cuisine. The Iberian black pig was a revelation. The wine list is long enough and well-chosen, complementary to the dishes. We may need to go back to Dunfermline very soon.

Service, atmosphere & food were exceptional. Our first visit for my daughter's birthday & csn't wait to return. We had the "small plates" lunch menu & can't fault a thing - delicious food, beautifully presented, generous portions, all made more special by the friendly atmosphere & charming staff. Thank you to all at Jack 'O' Bryan's. We'll be back!!!

My experience here was mixed . The food was delicious and presented exquisitely. However, for the fine dining prices I would expect a wee amuse bouche and potatoes/ veg/ salad to be included . The server / menu also need to more clear about what is included in the dish at the set price. I had a few queries with the bill which were not dealt with in a professional manner . The owner/ manageress could be heard complaining and dismissing my valid queries within earshot. Other than that a pleasant meal.

Wow what an incredible restaurant. This was our first time trying and I can honestly say it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The service was great and the food was even better. The produce used and attention to detail in every dish really did blow me away. I cannot recommend Jack o Bryan’s enough. I have a few things I think would make add to make this place perfect. 1. Please offer to take our coats, I understand that space might be an issue but with the high standard of this restaurant, taking your coat on arrival should be a given. (Especially with the winter months approaching) 2. Small note but the toilets are not in keeping with the rest of of the restaurants luxurious interior. They are very basic and a completely different vibe. 3. The cheeseboard was served beautifully. Five lovely cheeses, homemade chutney and crostinis. At £15 this was not a cheap dessert but was served with a blunt butter knife??? Please run to your suppliers as a cheese knife is a MUST for your customers. These are only side notes as this meal was the best I’ve had in a very long time!

Very tasty food and beautiful place to eat in Dunfarmlin. I had amazing steak and he was delicious. Stuff who works that day was ok but should be more active in serving customers if you automatically charge a tip, I mean customers don’t need to ask them every time to do small things. Pay more attention to customers and you will get more automatic tips that you add to billing.

Don’t miss having dinner here if you are in Dunfermline. In fact, catch the train from Edinburgh and make a special trip. The menu was varied and interesting. Food was beautifully presented and the wine list was extensive enough to please everyone. The chocolates for dessert were sublime- they came presented in a small wooden box and they all looked wonderful. The evening was enhanced by the great Scottish hospitality.

This was our first visit to JoB's, and it will most certainly not be our last. There were 6 of us all celebrating my partner's birthday, and from the outset, we were made to feel so welcome. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and enjoyed a laugh and a joke with us throughout the night. The food was probably the best we've had at any restaurant, anywhere. The food was amazing and interesting. Great flavours and presentation. Unfortunately the service didn’t reflect the food or effort that went into the menu and what the restaurant is clearly trying to put forward. Empty glasses left empty, being walked by repeatedly, eventually succeeded at flagging down to ask for another drink after 10-15mins. Empty dirty dishes sat for so long my partner had to ask someone to clear them so I could get my second drink placed on the table. We skipped dessert and another beverage after staff bumped into the back of my partners chair more than once without saying anything…so kinda felt like we should get the message of not welcome maybe? Food great but left feeling less than great by then end. Mandatory gratuity after all that seems a real miss as service is really not meeting industry standard.

I can’t pick one thing that I loved the most. It really was that good. If I absolutely had to find fault in anything at all, it would be that the noise levels do travel but that’s more due too the snug and cosy set up… but that’s part of the character!!

Popped in to look at the menu when I was out with my vegan son. They didn't have anything vegan on the menu which is disappointing in this day and age but for non-vegans the menu looked really nice. Food was the best part but they need to be clearer about the ingredients on the menu and ask guests in advance if they have allergies or dietary restrictions. The main server is great but the rest looked and acted like they didn’t want to be there. For a fine dining restaurant with such a high price point the experience wasn’t worth it. The restaurant isn’t designed properly, and it’s decorated like a cafe rather than a restaurant serving fine dining. If you’re going to spend £60-80 per person better to go somewhere in Edinburgh. Also, they take a flat service charge.

As Dunfermline restaurants go this is definitely the best food and possibly the best decor. On our past 2 visits we’ve been absolutely blown away by Sarah. She has added another dimension to our experience with her passion and knowledge of wine. I would have previously agreed that the FOH experience here was not always the best, but Sarah is definitely raising the bar. The only thing that would improve my already 5 star rating is an evening tasting menu with wine selected by Sarah…..

Food was good, front of house was terrible. Apparently there are rules about how and what you can order. This was our first time at this establishment and when I asked to order multiple starters instead of a main, I was told that was not allowed. Ok, so I selected a main (cauliflower steak) and it was excellent. My spouse enjoyed his chicken too. However, the owner/our server acted like we were a burden and overall I felt embarrassed and uncomfortable for the rest of the meal. We left after our main courses and went elsewhere for drinks and dessert. In my opinion it doesn’t matter how good the food is if you are made to feel like you don’t belong in the restaurant.

This will most certainly be our last visit to JoB’s! Actually can’t quite believe the audacity of the front of house staff. We’d always put down the owner’s manner as just about tolerable, albeit overbearing & pushy at each visit. But the food always made up for the strange ‘vibe’. Having visited on a number of occasions & only having an issue with the tapas Sunday lunch & the sporadic delivery of meats before sides, I felt after tonight’s visit to submit a review. Order was taken, lots of upselling, with no idea how much you’re being charged for ‘extras’. Starters were delicious & the extra of bread was yummy (although when the bill arrived to find out it was £7 for 4 tiny slices was a bit excessive to say the least)!!! Then it was onto the mains ….. monkfish & crab gratin was lovely, however the picanha was very chewy & inedible. When we asked to return for an alternative meal, the waitress obliged, only for another waiter to return & advise the kitchen would re-cook the steak & return for my husband to retry. Which he duly did, but funnily enough the steak was now just overcooked & still chewy. By that time, my meal was finished, so with no offer of an apology or alternative main, my husband went hungry. I however ploughed on, as I do enjoy Jack’s desserts. The rhubarb & custard panna cotta was delicious, but when the bill came, still with no apology, it was disappointing there was still a charge for the peppercorn sauce and no offer of a discount for the ruined meal. When we queried the lack of apology & no offer of an alternative meal, we were told the chef had cut the picanha steak & deemed it edible. Pretty sure if he’d tried to chew it, there might’ve been a different outcome to our meal. Now home, £120 lighter which was effectively a meal for one & hubby is cooking his own fillet steak. A real shame, as lovely wee restaurant & definitely the type of place Dunfermline is lacking.

This was the most terrible experience I have ever received in any restaurant. The food was not good for two of the four people attending.. this was highlighted to the staff and all we received was threats of police action if the bill was not cleared!! My wife was immediately not well with what seemed to be raw meat and my meal was not good at all and asked for it to be removed from the bill.. this was apparently down to my wife being absolutely drunk on five bottles of wine… even though only one was delivered to our table… shocking experience and would never set foot in that place again.

It is a shame I have to write a review about the service and not the food. So let me say that the food was amazing and up to its normal standard. My wife and I consider this as one of the best place to eat anywhere in the UK, but we were so disappointed with the service and attitude of the manager. My wife is coeliac and when she ordered her she asked whether she could have the home made dip with sliced carrots and not bread. When the order came it was served with only bread only. When our final courses arrived, her Crispy Spanish Chicken was delayed. When the manger came with the chicken she said to my wife that the chicken was incorrect as it was on a bed that contained gluten and returned it to the kitchen. When the dish finally arrived the waitress apologised for the mishap and asked if everything was ok. I said that I thought the service was not up to standard and was very disappointed she asked whether we wanted to speak to the manager. I decided to go to front of house to discuss the whole scenario which was well away from the prying ears of other customers. It was then I learnt that our order had been taken by the manger and when I discussed these problems with her she denied that wife had ordered carrots instead of bread and blamed the kitchen for messing up the chicken order. One thing a manger should never do and that is to blame other people. In my experience best to say "I am sorry for the misunderstanding" and then come to the table to speak to my wife and apologise. In fact no apology was given and the manager ignored both of us as we left. That we consider to be shameful. We still consider the food to be amazing, but front of house needs to be a little more gracious.

Table booked a few weeks in advance, asked at time abiut tapas deal & staff confirmed was available on date we booked. Had to call again prior to visit to add another person & again asked about deal & confirmed AGAIN it was available. On the day the manager brought us menus & took our drinks order. When taking our order we picked what we had thought was in the deal to then have the manget tell us the deal wasn't on. We advised we had been told on 2 separate calls that the deal was on , she said " well my staff don't know anything so shoukd have asked me" ....... I mean poor management or what?? In hindsight we should have just left at that but we had a strict timescale & few other stresses that made it easier to stay. The food was delicious, cannot complain about that but it was my 1 and only time visiting due to poor attitude.

Very rude staff, food was barely edible. Small portions and pretentious all over it. I know a lot of chefs have big egos, but maybe you should learn to be humble and just try and cook good food. I've never met a chef who loves himself like this, swanning around as if he's gods gift. It's very unappealing, especially when the food was bang average. Staff should focus on the service and quality of food being provided. I highly doubt I'd visit again due to the price bracket and what you get for your money. This was a surprise - I had no idea what to expect when I walked through the door. I saw a few staff waiting inside, and thought they had no customers. I walked in thinking I was doing them a favour on a slow night. I was shown through to the quiet main restaurant where a few couples were eating, and took a look at the menu. I wasn't particularly hungry, and the desserts sounded good, so I chose the shrimp starter and the Black Forrest dessert. I also chose the Bitter and Twisted beer rather than anything from the wine menu. One of the staff suggested adding the home made bread with black pork crackling butter, since the starter is a single (extremely large) shrimp. I was blown away by everything I ate. There is so much care in every single thing that was served, and the flavours were out of this world. I cut that shrimp into really thin sections to savour every scrap of the garnish. The dessert was a work of art, and perfectly cooked. With pleasant, attentive servers, the complete experience is a seamless display of attention to detail. I will be back, I want this restaurant to be one of the first things my wife experiences when she arrives in Dunfermline.

Michelle went through the menu with us giving recommendations and detailed descriptions of each dish. Her passion and knowledge was refreshing and very welcome. We were not disappointed, the presentation and flavours of our various dishes were excellent and I will definitely be returning. This restaurant is worthy of all it’s positive reviews.

We visited for a special occasion & what a treat it was! From the moment that we entered the restaurant, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. Throughout the evening, we had such delicious food - highlights include the cheese soufflé, scallops, picanha steaks with truffle, Iberian black pig, sticky toffee in a choux bun and grilled pineapple. In addition, the festive cocktail went down a treat at the end of the meal. We were so well cared for - our wine & water was topped up throughout the evening. Thank you to the owner & staff for making our evening so wonderful - we will definitely be back! It is definitely top choice for a special occasion in Dunfermline!

Yet again our lunch at Jack O’Bryans was perfect. All that we chose from the Christmas Tasting / Tapas menu was well presented and tasted amazing. The Jack O’Bryans team never let us down.

Jacks is our favourite place for special occasions- we visit often and both the food and service are always incredible. A special thanks the owner - and host - whose recommendations are always spot on and who is welcoming, warm & attentive. We felt wonderfully looked after, the atmosphere was both festive and comfortable and we’ll absolutely be back. A huge thank you to all the lovely staff members, you’re doing a wonderful job.

Not cheap but for fine dining not over priced .. we have recently been to Gordon Ramsay's place in Edinburgh and Marco piere Whites in London Jack o Brian's blows them away in my opinion on all counts service and food we will definitely be back

“ QUOTE FROM JACK HA HA HA I love to receive customers feedback though, hearing what they think of my chocolates and desserts.”……. It’s a pity you don’t want any feed back about your food, we were in yesterday asked a few questions regarding crackling ? Eventually Jacko Showed his true colours , came out of kitchen ranting verbal abuse at me , shouting in my face saying I was disrespectful to his staff 🤔 yes i did ask 3 times about the crackling only because I was interested in the answer at no point did I raise my voice or say anything disrespecting . I have never been spoken to like that ever in my life , screaming at me In Front of fellow diners & engaging with them to say we were awful. The only person awful there was you , what a show to put on in front of paying customers and a shining example to your staff . Obviously a very egotistical male that has no manners . Nothing was wrong with the food just a wee explanation would have been sufficiently & absolutely no need for this outburst , which I have now found out is a frequent occurrence within your establishment . Thanks for spoiling our day .

Just back from an afternoon with 8 friends. I write this review with a very bitter taste in my mouth and that certainly wasn't from the food but the Customer Service. I will start by our welcome as most of us were seated and waiting for one friend to arrive as she had been held up by accident traffic, we informed the owner (who we came to understand later that's who it was) that she was running a few minutes late. The reply in a very stern voice was well how long is a few minutes, we explained we didn't know exactly and she said well she needed to know as the souffle took 15 minutes at that we found out she was past the accident and would actually be minutes away so to go ahead. One of our party is Dairy and Gluten free, we had all pre ordered from the menu and the lady with dietary requirements had contacted them. There was a huge mix up with her order and the Owner was very rude, raised her voice at my friend in a packed restaurant, so you can imagine how embarrassed she felt. My friend had explained she wanted to get the correct food as she was paying ordinary price rather than the set of £20 at which point the owner of the restaurant told her she would be paying the same as everyone else at £20. (Shame she didn't stick to that when the bill came) The food was very good I can't fault what I had, but the rude, irate Owner of the restaurant leaves a very bitter taste in ones mouth. We did challenge the bill and asked for the Owner to come over but she refused to deal with it and sent the Manager who at one point found it funny what we were saying and I asked what she found so funny about an Owner speaking to paying customers this way when in fact they had mixed up the order and two had advised they would be giving at same price as others. How embarrassing that in Hospitality you think you have the right to treat people this way. I'd say the food was of Gleneagles standard and the customer Service worse than Faulty Towers if you want to be humiliated and embarrassed it's certainly the place to go bearing in mind your paying for her to be rude, humiliate and embarrass. It was the first time I'd been here although i've given many vouchers as gifts, I certainly won't be back and won't be buying future gift vouchers. A very disappointing and upsetting experience indeed.

Well it really doesn't surprise me reading these reviews as the service I received today was disgusting. The "owner" is the most rude and unapproachable person I've ever come across in hospitality. The way she spoke to my party was beyond unbelievable. Doesn't appear to be much of a secret either as we went to another place after and all the staff knew of the "reputation" of this place! Avoid at all costs - shame too cause the food was lovely but the atmosphere was tense and uncomfortable. The young staff members looked almost embarrassed to be working there and I don't blame them - I would too! Guys, have a word with yourselves and sort out the attitudes!

On the recommendation of friends, a group of 8 of us went for a pre xmas meal/night out. The food was AMAZING,however unfortunately the customer service was not. 2 elder members of staff were rude to us (the younger staff members were very pleasant/polite), and they constantly tried to up-sell wine/extra sides etc. Staff were impatient with us all night hurrying our orders , rushing us on and off the table. An "Optional" service charge was added to the bill - but we never paid it We were made to feel really uncomfortable during the meal, and will definately not be back.

Deeply mediocre food. Unpredictable service. Almost hostile to kids. Only plus was the beautiful presentation of the dishes. City centre fine dining prices. If the price was 25% lower the rating might go up one!

Seriously dissapointed in this restaurant, I was hoping for so much more. All the dishes that came out firstly looked amazing, a seious amount of effort has been made in the presentation of the food, which is why I was maybe so dissapointed if the first taste is with the eyes! For the starters, I had salt and chilli soft shell crab, which was neither saly nor chilli, and had a very thick batter covered in a slightly sour sauce on it meaning the taste and texture of the crab was completely hidden. For main, I had the monkfish and langoustine, again presented beutifully,

Best restaurant in Dunfermline by a mile. The sheer quality of the food here surely makes this a contender for Michelin and that is not said lightly. We tend to dine here when it is a special occasion and we want to push the boat out. This is exceptional fine dining. The presentation and the taste are just in a class above everything else. The menu is frequently updated and the chefs really do push themselves on quality and creativity. One meal here and you will be back. Guaranteed.

I don't spend enough time giving feedback on many of our local restaurants and have made it a bit of a mission to do so this year. Jack O'Bryans is a family run, u pretentious fine dining restaurant in the heart of Dunfermline. Google asks reviewers to rate restaurants on three criteria, food service and atmosphere, so here goes, although not in that order! Atmosphere: Small but not cramped it has an excellent atmosphere. On this visit we were given a table in the window at the front of the restaurant, it felt cosy and inviting and was very comfortable. When busier there is a great buzz, music is controlled to given ambience, not create a shouting match. Perfect. Food: We went to celebrate my daughter's 30th birthday. We were a party of five. Starters chosen included the Summer BBQ "Picanha steak", scallops, buffalo mozzarella salad and, Iberian Black pig Char Sui. I sampled all of these, all were delicious with the Summer BBQ being the standout dish. For mains the party chose monkfish, Picanha steaks (times 3),and BBQ Maple chicken, again I sampled all and, again, everything was delicious. The monkfish, for me, is impossible to go past. Sides of truffle chips, rooster chips, tempura broccoli and roasted sweetcorn accompanied our meal. Desserts included sticky toffee pudding, burnt Basque cheesecake, grilled pineapple, chocolate and white port and a cheese selection, I didn't get to try anything other than the cheese as there was much oohing and aaahing of delight going on, no sharing this time. We drank a couple of expertly crafted cocktails, The Quickening shiraz from the well thought out wine list and some dessert wines and port with puddings, all were excellent. Portions are appropriate meaning three courses are manageable, just. Service: This is where you see this is a family owned restaurant, service is polite, friendly, attentive and relaxed. Our visit was unhurried as it was quite, however, I cannot say I have ever felt pressure to leave if a table is required to be turned around then you still have ample time to enjoy your visit. During the meal there was just the right amount of intervention to ensure we were all enjoying our food, even better, no pressure to drink more, or upselling went on, really a pure pleasure overall. Things you aren't asked to review: The restaurant is fairly easy to access with only a small step up into the restaurant, the rest is on the level. The premises are spotless and well maintained, stone walls at great atmosphere and the rear wall just makes you want to touch it (you have to experience it for yourself). Toilets are immaculate. Disclaimer: my wife and I have been a few times since we moved to Dunfermline, it is a restaurant for a treat, our only problem with Jack O'Bryan's is that we seek out reasons to treat ourselves probably a little more than we should. What this does give me the insight to be able to say is that the quality of food, service and atmosphere is not a one off, we get this consistently, it is why we keep coming back. Keep it up! Other useful points: the menus change seasonally so best to check on the website to ensure you will be able to enjoy your choice. Booking is highly recommended, essential if you want a table at the weekend.

Great little restaurant with a cosy modern welcoming warm atmosphere where the staff are friendly, confident on their offerings and came across proud too. Ordered starters as Salmon + Crab and Iberian Black Pig then main courses as Steak and Lobster and special version of the Picanha steak. There was a special side of Corn Ribs which sounded quite unique so ordered them too. Everything was absolutely delicious. See pictures. Well cooked, well presented and fantastic flavours. Desert was a unique take on Sticky Toffee Pudding and equally scrummy. Enjoyable unhurried evening and although it's not cheap I found the service and quality probably justified the cost. If I was returning again I would probably try the Iberian Black Pig speciality as my main course because the starter version of it was just soooooo goooooood.

Popped in to this place on a visit to Dunfermline today and had their lunch menu, a selection of 3 tapas per person(@ £18 per head is a bargain for the quality of food)which are easily divided between 2 people, so my partner and I sampled 6 dishes each, and they were all absolutely delicious and faultless, an absolute delight on the taste buds.We were met by the wonderful Michelle, owner and fantastic hostess, and the food that came out of the Kitchen from her extremely talented son Jack was perfect. Jack also a chocolatier has a selection of his hand crafted chocolates on display in the restaurant, so we obviously had to buy some and can’t wait to sample them later. Overall a fantastic, friendly atmosphere, in beautiful restaurant. 10 out 10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND

A bit busy and a little claustrophobic as it's small but you don't actually feel like you're being watched. Food is good and service is outstanding, even on a busy night. I would happily go again if I'm in the area :-)

We both shared a Mitchellin experience at a very affordable price. Given we are from a commercial fishing background, I can honestly say that the scallops tonight, were without a doubt, the best we've had. Thank you for a truly wonderful culinary experience.
