This was my 3rd visit to Jack o Bryan’s for their lunch menu, Unfortunately this visit I was so disappointed with the food and service. To start with the food, we ordered 6 dishes and only thought 2 out of 6 were lovely. The warm sourdough and black pig butter was delicious, also the roasted cauliflower was lovely. The other dishes were very confused and most of the flavourings did not work well. We ordered the beef tar tar (which previously I have loved) but this was not pleasant… the flavours over powdered what should have been the star of the dish the beef. The Lamb Yaki was nice although once cutting of the fat that was not edible you really only got 2 mouthfuls each and this dish is £16. The soft shell crab was over cooked very small and the sauce that comes with it did not work with the crab was actually really odd to have a fish dish with soft peppers and a pepper/peri peri sauce. The black pudding caramelised onion and blue cheese dish was ok but it just 2 small bits of black pudding with what tasted like onion chutney and a cheese sauce with no hints of blue cheese and again these flavours are odd together. Overall I think for £70 for 6 dishes I would expected more could get a far better filling lunch else where for less than that. The two times I have previously visited here I loved it but this time the flavours were confused and over priced for what you get. The front of house lady who took us to our table was very unpleasant and not friendly. Never smiled once. When I asked for a new plate you’d think I asked her for £20 with her reaction. Also when we were happy drinking water and not adding drinks or wine her fave was tripping her. If it’s the first person who greets your customers I’d advise getting someone more friendly with a smile.. made for an unpleasant atmosphere and we were in and out in 45min.

We took my mother there for her birthday, and the food and service were outstanding. They can't cater to all dietary restrictions, but I had no problem eating gluten free. Love the atmosphere of the place as well...I found the lighting a bit bright at our table (we were seated at the front of the restaurant) but staff dimmed lighting upon request and then it was perfect. Highly recommend!

I have previously dinned at jack o Bryan’s a few times for special occasions but this time we were given a gift voucher for Christmas so it was date night! I have to say every time we dine it is always an amazing experience and a real value for money. The lady who served us was polite and told us the specials for the evening while the gentlemen took our drink order, I think he was new there as I haven’t seen him before, just wanted to say that he was lovely and made us laugh, really good with taking the time at the table and not being overbearing which we don’t like at some other restaurants. The lady that served us looked like she had control over the restaurant and making sure everything was running smooth which I loved as our service was fast and efficient, I think it was Jacks wife as I have been introduced to her before but I couldn’t remember! Thank you again Jack O Bryan’s for the amazing evening! We will be back with our other voucher soon!!!!!

Very good restaurant overall Food super tasty, the staff always attentive, the hostess/manager was very nice to get us a table although we didn’t have reservation by explaining a time limit. Just one personal preference, you should have “normal” bread on the menu… it was a crime to send all that amazing sauce back to the kitchen 😊 Best meal we had in Scotland

Great as it always is but I think on this occasions may have been a different chef or approach as not outstanding as it has been on previous visits. Food still good just not as great. Service great as it always has been. I ordered the 4 chocolates I would have appreciated being asked for choices or told what each one was although they were all good. Would still go return perhaps not a Sunday lunch

While the meal itself was enjoyable, the service completely undermined the experience. We knew that dining at 6pm meant we had to finish by 8pm, but the staff were so slow in serving our food and clearing the table that we never had a chance to order dessert. Although we were given the dessert menu, we were immediately handed the bill and told to vacate the table. I might have been more forgiving if our own pace had been the issue, but it was entirely due to the staff’s inefficiency.

We had a large group booking including an older member of the family with a small appetite. We asked if they could do a starter as a main course as Mum didn’t have a big appetite but the server refused saying they couldn’t make money off the chair if only ordering starters! She made the Mum feel uncomfortable which wasn’t great on a table where we were ordering 2 courses each plus drinks and wine! My chicken dish was ‘ok’. Very small portion of chicken and deep fried broccoli over cooked and too much oil used in the cooking for my taste. Everyone enjoyed the steak dishes and starters. Would not go back.

Enjoyable meal in cosy restaurant in Dunfermline with nice atmosphere. Food was tasty but pricey and there was an unfortunate tendency for the staff to 'upsell' - eg our wine choice, vegetable sides and sauce for the steak. The meals tended to come with creamy sauces and it would have been good to have had a less calorific option with simple vegetables on the side. The side of broccoli was in batter. At the high price I would also have expected bread with the meal and proper napkins rather than thin paper ones but that is just my opinion! We enjoyed our evening

Heads up to anyone booking online: I made a reservation on a Sunday for 6:15pm. I was also considering the available 6:30pm reservation. I did not check the hours before booking the reservation. My wife and I left the house a little late and called to let them know we would be 10min late. The rep explained that the kitchen closed at 6:30pm but they would let them know we were running late. We felt really uncomfortable showing up late and keeping the kitchen open. We also didn’t want to feel rushed to order everything as soon as we sat down. I called back twice and never got though. My wife called from her phone 3min later and they answered. She explained how we felt, and we were informed that they would still keep the kitchen open just for us. My wife said we didn’t feel comfortable with that and decided to just cancel. They still charged us the £24 booking fee. It’s what I agreed to when I booked, but we would have felt really uncomfortable if we showed up. I’m disappointed that we were still charged, and I would have been even more disappointed if we showed up on time only to discover the kitchen closed as soon as we arrived. I would’ve felt rushed through the whole dining experience. I suggest they limit the available reservations so people don’t show up with zero time to enjoy the experience.

UPDATE - A year on from my first visit, Jack O Bryan's is even better. We went for lunch this time, the plates are small, but everything on the plate is there for a reason - there is no "filler". We had the bread, both taco options, a plate of scallops each and the chocolate/cherry dessert each. Very satisfied, without being uncomfortably full. This was a surprise - I had no idea what to expect when I walked through the door. I saw a few staff waiting inside, and thought they had no customers. I walked in thinking I was doing them a favour on a slow night. I was shown through to the quiet main restaurant where a few couples were eating, and took a look at the menu. I wasn't particularly hungry, and the desserts sounded good, so I chose the shrimp starter and the Black Forrest dessert. I also chose the Bitter and Twisted beer rather than anything from the wine menu. One of the staff suggested adding the home made bread with black pork crackling butter, since the starter is a single (extremely large) shrimp. I was blown away by everything I ate. There is so much care in every single thing that was served, and the flavours were out of this world. I cut that shrimp into really thin sections to savour every scrap of the garnish. The dessert was a work of art, and perfectly cooked. With pleasant, attentive servers, the complete experience is a seamless display of attention to detail. I will be back, I want this restaurant to be one of the first things my wife experiences when she arrives in Dunfermline.

Service, atmosphere and food were exceptional. The restaurant was recommended by a family member for a birthday celebration and it was the best we could choose. We spent a beautifully relaxed evening here in early Dec. As soon as we entered there was a very warm welcome and the two of us were escorted to our table. The staff served everyone efficiently and to a very high standard although still found time to be friendly and take an interest in each of their customers by having a short conversation with them which, in my opinion, makes the customer feel special The food was exceptional and the only problem we found was that this was our only visit here during our stay in Dunfermline. We were also given plenty of time during the evening which allowed us to indulge in 3 courses This restaurant is a gem for fine dining and besides our 3 courses we also had a bottle of wine, coffee and liqueur so when it came time to pay our £220, we felt it was worth every penny ! We will definately be reserving a table at this establishment again when we return to Dunfermline next Dec

The decor of the restaurant was lovely, small but felt cosy. We had the small plate festive menu, the dishes were very small so needed a few each. We enjoyed most of the dishes but were a little too fancy for us. The price was very steep for what you got I think. 4 small plates, 2 sides and 2 juices came to £82 (10% service charge) this was for a lunch. Similar to Edinburgh prices. Not sure if id rush back.

Well our first time at JOB and what a fantastic meal it was. This restaurant has an excellent ambiance and atmosphere about it. Service was great, food was outstanding and overall our anniversary was an evening to remember. It is a costly restaurant but worth every penny. It’s so good to have found this place as it’s by far the best food we have had in Fife by a long way. I have an allergy to garlic and mushrooms and staff were superb in advising me of what I could pick from the menu. Not only did they do that but communicated to me if I come back again to let them know, and they would make me a sauce etc that did t not contain garlic or mushrooms etc. Now that’s what I call great service. If I could give it 6 stars I would. Can’t wait to return again soon Well done guys

My experience here was mixed . The food was delicious and presented exquisitely. However, for the fine dining prices I would expect a wee amuse bouche and potatoes/ veg/ salad to be included . The server / menu also need to more clear about what is included in the dish at the set price. I had a few queries with the bill which were not dealt with in a professional manner . The owner/ manageress could be heard complaining and dismissing my valid queries within earshot. Other than that a pleasant meal.

Wow what an incredible restaurant. This was our first time trying and I can honestly say it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The service was great and the food was even better. The produce used and attention to detail in every dish really did blow me away. I cannot recommend Jack o Bryan’s enough. I have a few things I think would make add to make this place perfect. 1. Please offer to take our coats, I understand that space might be an issue but with the high standard of this restaurant, taking your coat on arrival should be a given. (Especially with the winter months approaching) 2. Small note but the toilets are not in keeping with the rest of of the restaurants luxurious interior. They are very basic and a completely different vibe. 3. The cheeseboard was served beautifully. Five lovely cheeses, homemade chutney and crostinis. At £15 this was not a cheap dessert but was served with a blunt butter knife??? Please run to your suppliers as a cheese knife is a MUST for your customers. These are only side notes as this meal was the best I’ve had in a very long time!

Very tasty food and beautiful place to eat in Dunfarmlin. I had amazing steak and he was delicious. Stuff who works that day was ok but should be more active in serving customers if you automatically charge a tip, I mean customers don’t need to ask them every time to do small things. Pay more attention to customers and you will get more automatic tips that you add to billing.

The food was amazing and interesting. Great flavours and presentation. Unfortunately the service didn’t reflect the food or effort that went into the menu and what the restaurant is clearly trying to put forward. Empty glasses left empty, being walked by repeatedly, eventually succeeded at flagging down to ask for another drink after 10-15mins. Empty dirty dishes sat for so long my partner had to ask someone to clear them so I could get my second drink placed on the table. We skipped dessert and another beverage after staff bumped into the back of my partners chair more than once without saying anything…so kinda felt like we should get the message of not welcome maybe? Food great but left feeling less than great by then end. Mandatory gratuity after all that seems a real miss as service is really not meeting industry standard.

Food was the best part but they need to be clearer about the ingredients on the menu and ask guests in advance if they have allergies or dietary restrictions. The main server is great but the rest looked and acted like they didn’t want to be there. For a fine dining restaurant with such a high price point the experience wasn’t worth it. The restaurant isn’t designed properly, and it’s decorated like a cafe rather than a restaurant serving fine dining. If you’re going to spend £60-80 per person better to go somewhere in Edinburgh. Also, they take a flat service charge.

As Dunfermline restaurants go this is definitely the best food and possibly the best decor. On our past 2 visits we’ve been absolutely blown away by Sarah. She has added another dimension to our experience with her passion and knowledge of wine. I would have previously agreed that the FOH experience here was not always the best, but Sarah is definitely raising the bar. The only thing that would improve my already 5 star rating is an evening tasting menu with wine selected by Sarah…..

Food was good, front of house was terrible. Apparently there are rules about how and what you can order. This was our first time at this establishment and when I asked to order multiple starters instead of a main, I was told that was not allowed. Ok, so I selected a main (cauliflower steak) and it was excellent. My spouse enjoyed his chicken too. However, the owner/our server acted like we were a burden and overall I felt embarrassed and uncomfortable for the rest of the meal. We left after our main courses and went elsewhere for drinks and dessert. In my opinion it doesn’t matter how good the food is if you are made to feel like you don’t belong in the restaurant.

This will most certainly be our last visit to JoB’s! Actually can’t quite believe the audacity of the front of house staff. We’d always put down the owner’s manner as just about tolerable, albeit overbearing & pushy at each visit. But the food always made up for the strange ‘vibe’. Having visited on a number of occasions & only having an issue with the tapas Sunday lunch & the sporadic delivery of meats before sides, I felt after tonight’s visit to submit a review. Order was taken, lots of upselling, with no idea how much you’re being charged for ‘extras’. Starters were delicious & the extra of bread was yummy (although when the bill arrived to find out it was £7 for 4 tiny slices was a bit excessive to say the least)!!! Then it was onto the mains ….. monkfish & crab gratin was lovely, however the picanha was very chewy & inedible. When we asked to return for an alternative meal, the waitress obliged, only for another waiter to return & advise the kitchen would re-cook the steak & return for my husband to retry. Which he duly did, but funnily enough the steak was now just overcooked & still chewy. By that time, my meal was finished, so with no offer of an apology or alternative main, my husband went hungry. I however ploughed on, as I do enjoy Jack’s desserts. The rhubarb & custard panna cotta was delicious, but when the bill came, still with no apology, it was disappointing there was still a charge for the peppercorn sauce and no offer of a discount for the ruined meal. When we queried the lack of apology & no offer of an alternative meal, we were told the chef had cut the picanha steak & deemed it edible. Pretty sure if he’d tried to chew it, there might’ve been a different outcome to our meal. Now home, £120 lighter which was effectively a meal for one & hubby is cooking his own fillet steak. A real shame, as lovely wee restaurant & definitely the type of place Dunfermline is lacking.

Went to lunch on sunday and staff greeted us as we entered. Got sat down and given menu. Waitress explained how to choose from the menu. I understood it like a tasting menu. So each course was small but you could share the portions around the table . Grwat way of trying different food . Food was excellent so big thanks to chef. Desserts were to die for and beautifully presented. Favourites were the tacos and the sticky toffee pudding . Well done!!

My partner and I visited for our anniversary last night and the whole experience was exceptional. The food is undoubtedly the best available in fife and our two waiters really made the experience special. I sadly didn't catch their names but one lady who recommended lots and gave us the history of the wine was superb, as was the guy too. We will definitely be back and will be recommending here to anyone who will listen. Thanks guys 🤓

I visited the restaurant on Saturday evening and all I can say is WOW!!! From the moment I entered the restaurant I felt welcomed and walked straight to my table, the lady who served us was lovely and told us both the specials which I opted for in the end! There was one special moment in my night and I have to say it was my starter THE CHEESE SOUFFLÉ!!!!!! OMG who ever made that dish I need in my life. The best starter I think I have ever had and I have been to a few restaurants if I do say so my self. All the dishes that were presented to the table were with a smile and also looked amazing, the presentation on the dishes were outstanding and really couldn’t of asked for a better meal! Thank you jack o Bryan’s we can’t wait to be back!!!

Absolutely 10 out of 10. The black pig is simply incredible. Service is outstanding. I have eaten in some exceptional places in my time, and I can confidently say this was one of the best. The owner was extremely pleasant and described her food very well. Sarah made my night, so inviting and welcoming, made for a very enjoyable evening.

This restaurant has a great reputation and it did not disappoint. In fact I found the quality and presentation of the food better than I expected. Dunfermline has many great restaurants and this is surely the best! The servers/staff also made our evening special. They were knowledgeable and helpful. There were three of us on our reservation and we all plan to return.

This was the most terrible experience I have ever received in any restaurant. The food was not good for two of the four people attending.. this was highlighted to the staff and all we received was threats of police action if the bill was not cleared!! My wife was immediately not well with what seemed to be raw meat and my meal was not good at all and asked for it to be removed from the bill.. this was apparently down to my wife being absolutely drunk on five bottles of wine… even though only one was delivered to our table… shocking experience and would never set foot in that place again.

I have been with my daughter previously and really enjoyed it. This visit was with my wife. The restaurant is really nicely decorated and the staff are very helpful and attentive. The food is tapas style. Everything we has was excellent. The quality was amazing. However, the quantity was less than generous. We also noticed a lack of consistency between portion sizes between tables who had the same orders as us. The lunch for 2 with 2 glasses of wine was £130. Summary - excellent food but overpriced.

What an amazing little gem in Dunfermline, top quality food, great atmosphere with five star service. Food was created by what I understand is a 25 year old man. If this is what he creates now the future is going to be amazing for him.

It is a shame I have to write a review about the service and not the food. So let me say that the food was amazing and up to its normal standard. My wife and I consider this as one of the best place to eat anywhere in the UK, but we were so disappointed with the service and attitude of the manager. My wife is coeliac and when she ordered her she asked whether she could have the home made dip with sliced carrots and not bread. When the order came it was served with only bread only. When our final courses arrived, her Crispy Spanish Chicken was delayed. When the manger came with the chicken she said to my wife that the chicken was incorrect as it was on a bed that contained gluten and returned it to the kitchen. When the dish finally arrived the waitress apologised for the mishap and asked if everything was ok. I said that I thought the service was not up to standard and was very disappointed she asked whether we wanted to speak to the manager. I decided to go to front of house to discuss the whole scenario which was well away from the prying ears of other customers. It was then I learnt that our order had been taken by the manger and when I discussed these problems with her she denied that wife had ordered carrots instead of bread and blamed the kitchen for messing up the chicken order. One thing a manger should never do and that is to blame other people. In my experience best to say "I am sorry for the misunderstanding" and then come to the table to speak to my wife and apologise. In fact no apology was given and the manager ignored both of us as we left. That we consider to be shameful. We still consider the food to be amazing, but front of house needs to be a little more gracious.

Table booked a few weeks in advance, asked at time abiut tapas deal & staff confirmed was available on date we booked. Had to call again prior to visit to add another person & again asked about deal & confirmed AGAIN it was available. On the day the manager brought us menus & took our drinks order. When taking our order we picked what we had thought was in the deal to then have the manget tell us the deal wasn't on. We advised we had been told on 2 separate calls that the deal was on , she said " well my staff don't know anything so shoukd have asked me" ....... I mean poor management or what?? In hindsight we should have just left at that but we had a strict timescale & few other stresses that made it easier to stay. The food was delicious, cannot complain about that but it was my 1 and only time visiting due to poor attitude.

Not worth the money! Food bang average. Was asked if I wanted broccoli and carrots with my meal but had no idea they were additional charged items. Overall, really disappointed and felt it just wasn't worth the money. Will not be back.

I don’t know why we’ve never eaten here before. We will certainly be returning in the near future. This has to be the best restaurant in Dunfermline. The food really was very good. We appreciated the emphasis on the main element of each course beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. Each dish was delicious. We were slightly nervous having read other reviews about the service but from our own experience we couldn’t fault it. The staff were attentive and helpful. Despite the restaurant being full and busy on a Saturday night we were served at a nice pace. It didn’t feel rushed and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere to it. Looking forward to our next visit.

COME HERE IF YOU THINK SCOTLAND’S CUISINE HAS NOTHING TO OFFER. I can’t stress enough how wonderful the whole experience has been. I’m still sitting at the table while writing this so I don’t forget! Scotland has a rich, diverse larder that we (as Spaniards) think is massively underrated and unused. So if you want to enjoy the premium ingredients Scotland has to offer, and add a master combination of flavour and creativity, please come here. You will not regret it. Our (kind, friendly and knowledgeable) waiter José let us know that the chef has recently been nominated for Best British Chef and we are not surprised in the least. So, come here before he does win or we guarantee you won’t be able to secure a table in months! An absolute gem of Scottish cuisine.

Very rude staff, food was barely edible. Small portions and pretentious all over it. I know a lot of chefs have big egos, but maybe you should learn to be humble and just try and cook good food. I've never met a chef who loves himself like this, swanning around as if he's gods gift. It's very unappealing, especially when the food was bang average. Staff should focus on the service and quality of food being provided. I highly doubt I'd visit again due to the price bracket and what you get for your money. There are a few eateries in the city which are better.

Can recommend the oysters in tempura batter with caviar for starters and the rack of lamb and please do order all the side veggies to share as so interestingly prepared. I'm booking my next meal today!

First time eating at this wonderful resturant as we were recommended by a good friend. The whole experience was amazing. The food was excellent and the service first class. We had the lunch menu so that we could try as many of the dishes as possible and all were superb. My favourite was the steak tartare; never had better. So I can highly recommend this place if you do fancy excellent cuisine.

We went here for dinner after receiving several recommendations and were not disappointed. Our server was superb. He alone was five stars, a true professional. As the food arrived, we continued to be impressed with the quality and presentation. The night we went was relatively quiet, with only four other couples, so it was hard to grade the atmosphere. The room was nice but a little bright for me; however, this didn't stop me from grading this superb restaurant as a 5-star experience, and I would highly advise you to try it for yourself.

It would help the dining experience if the food was explained in more detail. My Black Pig came very rare and bloody which is not to my taste. If you plan to serve bloodied rare pork meat it would have been helpful to let me know then I could have chosen a different meal. Unfortunately when asked politely if this was the way it was usually cooked we were meet with an aggressive response. I have eaten black pork on many occasions and it has never been served raw. Unfortunately my experience in this restaurant is not i will repeat.

My friends took my husband and I for a surprise 60th Birthday meal and from the moment we walked into the beautifully presented restaurant we were made to feel very welcome. Our drinks waiter was very helpful and recommended the special cocktail of the night which was very easy to drink and he was attentive with filling our wine glasses when required as well as table water with ice. Michelle went through the menu with us giving recommendations and detailed descriptions of each dish. Her passion and knowledge was refreshing and very welcome. We were not disappointed, the presentation and flavours of our various dishes were excellent and I will definitely be returning. This restaurant is worthy of all it’s positive reviews.

We visited for a special occasion & what a treat it was! From the moment that we entered the restaurant, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. Throughout the evening, we had such delicious food - highlights include the cheese soufflé, scallops, picanha steaks with truffle, Iberian black pig, sticky toffee in a choux bun and grilled pineapple. In addition, the festive cocktail went down a treat at the end of the meal. We were so well cared for - our wine & water was topped up throughout the evening. Thank you to the owner & staff for making our evening so wonderful - we will definitely be back! It is definitely top choice for a special occasion in Dunfermline!

“ QUOTE FROM JACK HA HA HA I love to receive customers feedback though, hearing what they think of my chocolates and desserts.”……. It’s a pity you don’t want any feed back about your food, we were in yesterday asked a few questions regarding crackling ? Eventually Jacko Showed his true colours , came out of kitchen ranting verbal abuse at me , shouting in my face saying I was disrespectful to his staff 🤔 yes i did ask 3 times about the crackling only because I was interested in the answer at no point did I raise my voice or say anything disrespecting . I have never been spoken to like that ever in my life , screaming at me In Front of fellow diners & engaging with them to say we were awful. The only person awful there was you , what a show to put on in front of paying customers and a shining example to your staff . Obviously a very egotistical male that has no manners . Nothing was wrong with the food just a wee explanation would have been sufficiently & absolutely no need for this outburst , which I have now found out is a frequent occurrence within your establishment . Thanks for spoiling our day .

Well it really doesn't surprise me reading these reviews as the service I received today was disgusting. The "owner" is the most rude and unapproachable person I've ever come across in hospitality. The way she spoke to my party was beyond unbelievable. Doesn't appear to be much of a secret either as we went to another place after and all the staff knew of the "reputation" of this place! Avoid at all costs - shame too cause the food was lovely but the atmosphere was tense and uncomfortable. The young staff members looked almost embarrassed to be working there and I don't blame them - I would too! Guys, have a word with yourselves and sort out the attitudes!
