Spoke to manager before going as i have coeliac disease I can honestly say everything was lovely and chef asked did i want to see kitchen . Definitely going back

Delicious hoi sin duck wrap for lunch. I would certainly recommend it and will be ordering it again soon. We had a lovely ladies lunch and put the world to rights.

Took my granddaughters there as a treat, one has a nut allergy, staff brought a chart to show what she could have, food was excellent but you need a good appetite portions are large and very tasty, service was excellent, would highly recommend for a night out for a group or just a cosy meal for two.

food was amazing, would definitely recommend the caesar salad. staff were helpful and friendly. tempura shrimp was crispy and calamari was a little bit chewy but overall absolutely delicious

Fantastic variety of dishes. All those I've tried were excellent from small plates to pizzas to burgers even salads. Atmosphere is excellent especially weekends. Service was great as always, our server today was Ellie. Very friendly and helpful with menu. Highly recommend a visit.

Though the prices are a little expensive for what you get, you could tell everything we had was prepared fresh and was really hot when it arrived. The tempura prawns were fluffy with perfect, light crispy batter, our burgers were juicy, the fries were crunchy and golden and the honeycomb cheesecake was a slice of heaven. Will come back soon.

Had a wonderful brunch here yesterday while I was visiting family in Liverpool. Really lovely place. Great atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. It did get quite busy and so we had to wait a bit for our food hence the 4 stars. We were told there would be a longer wait than normal before we ordered so agreed this would be fine. 2 of us had the full English breakfast and the other 2 had the breakfast hash brown stacks. These looked delicious and I was told they tasted amazing. My breakfast certainly was. The quality of the food was great. We had a couple of hot drinks which were good too. Everyone was happy with their food. I would love to go here again one evening to try something else from the menu. Will certainly be looking to return when I visit family again which I do regularly.

Food was amazing. So much choice and great sized plates. Salt and pepper sui mai were lovely and loaded fries! Atmosphere great with live band on at 9pm (friday) and staff were attentive

Having read the other good reviews we were very disappointed with our visit. Service was non existent, staff were more interested in standing by the bar. Food was bland and tasteless so we ended up leaving most of it and then we had to almost beg for attention just to pay the bill! Won't be returning.

Nice food nice chilled place where you can chat

Went here for a father's day meal with my son and his children. Service a bit slow waited along time for cutlery but food was lovely , so tasty and good value. We were a mixed group child , vegetarian and teenagers we all enjoyed our meal. Went here last night with friends food was gorgeous , service was great. It will be my go to in the village now

The Food is amazing, I had the Book Burger and my partner had the pizza and we shared the satay chicken, all came out fresh and hot. Only negative was it was very roudy and loud with a few people but after they left it was lovely and peaceful.

Had breakfast here on a Sunday morning. Can’t say enough of how nice the staff were. Fantastic healthy options menu. We really enjoyed the food and the coffee was fabulous. The village is a short walk for us so we will definitely be visiting again

Appalling service, literally abysmal. Poor quality, below average food - can’t even get a decent pizza right. Ingredients missing, even for the cocktails - joke. Overall, over-priced crap. Never again.

One of those suburban oasis that you will either stumble across or not, my suggestion is if you happen to find yourself in the locality just go..... brilliant friendly staff that make you feel so welcome, amazing food that just rocks.

Booked for a Birthday lunch for two - so disappointing! The service was abysmal. Literally had to chase for everything, from ordering food, drinks, to plates to eat off! Staff were just miserable. Everything took forever. Not 1 member of staff asked if everything was ok during starters and mains. My cocktail arrived with marshmallows missing - waitress spilt a good portion of this £9 cocktail (no trays used, just carried over by hand) - not a sorry, let me get you another, let me wipe the table. Sharing starter just dumped, with no offer of a plate to eat it off. Food was average, at best. The camembert sharing starter was so lack-lustre, literally no imagination for presentation - few sticks of carrots, some sad-looking celery, and the ‘warm toasted bread’ had seen better days. It was neither warm or toasted. It just tasted stale. For £13, it was a disgrace. The pizzas were bad. So bad. Needed glasses to spot the toppings. Mine was missing advertised toppings. I’ve had better from Tesco nearby. Oh but when we asked for the bill, it was there in less than 30 seconds🤣Even then, not a ‘was everything ok?’……probably terrified of the reply. Complete waste of £100. This place is delusional with its City Centre prices as it just doesn't deliver. At all. Average, verging on poor, food. Disinterested staff. Shockingly poor service. Needs to pull its head out of its backside and sort it out. Pop up to 51 Mill Lane……like a different world.

Food, atmosphere and service were genuinely amazing. I had a breakfast wrap my wife had a salt and pepper chicken wrap and they were spot on, prices are decent and the music and atmosphere and lighting are top notch. Definitely recommend this place.

Went for lunch but service was pretty slow for taking order, getting drinks and the food coming out. I ordered the duck wrap, it just looked and tasted like the one you get from Tesco but you pay £8 for. Waitress never came back to take for anymore drinks or to see if everything was ok with the food, so make sure you double up on your drinks order! Wasn't that busy when we went but the place looks nice and clean, decent atmosphere still!

Went with my Mum and Sister and our two cousins for a drink to finish the day come night, the place was quite good for drink and I had a orange Pellegrino to finish along with a nice chat and a good laugh.

It's a great place to go out with your family we went there after a funeral everything was well organised highly recommend.

Would not return to eat, service really poor, not too impressed by the pizzas very disappointed, will only go back for a drink

Pizzas lovely. But Book burger was unappealing and bland. Knocked a star off because of that. Didn't even get cheese with it you have to pay an extra £1 for cheese. Shame really.

We had a work's community litter pick today and we entered off the cuff to see if they would seat 9 of us with no booking. We were treated like no problem right away, despite having to split bills and being a bit awkward. The staff were patient and friendly, and I will definitely be returning with family/friends and with an appropriate tip!!! The food was lovely as well, with a couple of decent veggie options on the lunch menu. A little gem, thanks for looking after us.

Nice place to have a cocktail. Been with a friend a bit too loud to be able to speak. Some live music going on when we were there. The security guards were really nice and fun. The staff was helpful and polite. The atmosphere was good lots of young people enjoying a drink in a really friendly environment. the place was clean and tidy.

The food was excellent we had an assortment of starters as picky food and Greek pizza. Friendly atmosphere and the service was excellent.

Very disappointing !!! Saturday night 6:00pm. Not overly busy when we arrived. Waited for over 10 mins for drinks order to be taken and then only to be told no draught beers 😣 Food order taken after another 10 min wait. 40 mins later food arrived. King prawns like rubber, meatballs dry, steak on the dirty fries tough. Staff walking around aimlessly. We had finished our drinks & one member of staff walked past our table on 4 separate occasions and not once asked if we would like another drink. We’ve eaten in the Book before and were expecting good things but on this particular occasion the food & service were distinctly lacking.

A pleasant enough place, the music was a bit loud and the staff were lovely, really helpful and pleasant. Two of our party had loaded fries and they enjoyed them, nice enough. The small plate squid wasn’t just small, it was tiny for what it cost and the same goes for the side of French fries. It was only just warm too and to be honest it didn’t really taste of anything much. The chicken in the chicken burger was very dry and over cooked so that wasn’t great either. It’s maybe better for breakfast but I don’t know obviously.

Went for brunch. Hash browns, beans and bacon lukewarm. Didn't offer scrambled eggs as an alternative to fried. Only one pice of toast. Cud have been great. Hope you can give us your thoughts.

It looks like a modern little restaurant but the menu lacks anything fresh or inspired. The pizza had the smallest amount of topping. The chicken Goujons were not fresh and were overcooked. They are served on the tiniest bit of very sad rocket. The table was sticky and for the quality of food - it was overpriced.

Great food, service isn't the quickest. Not sure why as it wasn't that packed when we arrived. Cocktails are amazing.

Came here at the weekend with friends for cocktails and to try out the new menu, which has recently been updated!! Food as always was 10/10 and the live acts get better each and every time I come!! Defintiely one of my fave places to go with the girls!!

DISAPPOINTING. Been here many times before but tonight was a let down. Food we ordered was not worth the price we paid for it. Nachos were poor as a starter, looked like they were just thrown together. Ordered the Aloha pizza....hardly any toppings of ham or pineapple and was very dry...we actually sent it back as we've had better pizza out of a box from a supermarket. Won't be coming back here any time soon.

We booked for a post funeral gathering and were asked to leave after an hour as we didn't order food quick enough even though there were 9 empty tables, went across the road to the Sefton. Would not reccomend to anyone for sensitive and caring treatment. Avoid at all costs.

Phoned to book a booth to accommodate small family gathering after my brothers funeral to pleasantly reminice before going our separate ways. As we dont live in Liverpool anymore, looked on Google for recommendations for a venue to accommodate, and this indeed looked suitable. Rang to make sure it would be ok for a mixed age group from baby to 70, so hardly a rowdy crew. However, once there I was very dismayed when we were asked to leave as we had been there for more than an hour and had not ordered food. There were other empty booths, plenty of tables, and despite being largely soft drink orders, we had run up a bar bill of circa £90. Definitely would not recommend to anyone based on this level of service.

Staff welcoming drinks good and food was perfect. Always go to town for food but it's nice knowing that this place is round the corner.the food takes time to come out but with the quality and the atmosphere the time fly's past

Had a great meal with my family at The Book, the food was delicious, the menu had lots of options to suit everyone including our daughter who is vegetarian. Loved the live music which was an unexpected surprise on a Thursday evening. Great atmosphere, attentive service. Have already booked our return visit.

I had an unfortunate experience on this restaurant , the waitress accidentally knocked a glass which broke and spilled all over me. The waitress was mortified and couldn’t say sorry enough. It was purely an accident . the management could not have done anymore then the did. Offering to pay for dry cleaning. Lovely food lovely staff and great manager. Definitely recommend this restaurant. Will be back xx

A very nice place, however the service was slow and the food was very bland. Considering it wasn't very busy, staff took way too long to acknowledge us. Our order was wrong despite confirming it with the staff 3 times. Overall, cleanliness wasn't great, sticky tables and dirty cutlery, seating hadn't been wiped either. Probably won't go back as it just didn't have anything good to offer.

Small independent bar and restaurant in West Derby Village Place has now been extended into the next door unit as well, making it bigger and better. Fine to call in just for drinks by themselves Table service, by friendly attentive staff Spotlessly clean toilets Great variety of food and cocktails to suit everyone's taste Food is great, tasty, freshly prepared, well presented and competitively priced. Some weekend nights there, is a singer on from eight pm to entertain you Great little venue, call in you won't be disappointed

We held a morning wake after my brother-in-law’s funeral, and Nathan, the manager, helped us with chooising the menu beforehand, and on the day, the staff, from chef through to bar staff, were very courteous and helpful. Would recommend The Book for any coffees, alcolholic drinks and food to anybody that enjoys GREAT service !!

Me and my partner's first visit and we were not disappointed. I think the menu is great and there is a good selection. The starters and mains were delicious. We will definitely go back. I have to mention that the staff were fantastic and they would go out of their way to make our experience enjoyable.

Called into the Book in West Derby last weekend for a breakfast. The staff couldn't have been any more helpful, From seeing me to a table, bringing me a coffee and fresh orange. To ordering a breakfast. I did ask for bigger breakfast, As you can see from the image, I got a bigger breakfast. I must say, it was the best breakfast I've had in a long time. Absolutely amazing place for breakfast.

Got the book burger if you carnt get that right what can you do ? Was bland had a funny taste won't be going back all you could here is cheifs shouting the should concentrate of the food poor service aswell I won't be returning

It was like a cafe! There was a singer on, it was that noisy I could just about hear the music.

Nice vibe chilled atmosphere pizza was amazing love all the different combos our group had a few different pizzas they were all thin based with tasty toppings just like the Italians make them....

We found the place by surprise and we decided to have lunch at 12.30pm. Unfortunately, the lunch menu was not running yet so we had brunch. This was very tasty and filling with very good value for money. I just wish they had some breakfast classics like waffles or eggs royale as an option. However, we had a full English and a breakfast wrap and both were really good!

Friendly, welcoming staff, enjoyable food (steak ciabatta on this occasion- they dont scrimp on the meat like some places), brunch and lunch menus just a bit limited and shouldn't be an additional charge for sauce but popular and good atmosphere.
