We always enjoy The Bobbin and this was no different - for a start, great when you can still get a Sunday Roast at 7.30pm!! The service seemed a little inattentive but ultimately I think they were just really short staffed. The early evening ambience was a curious mix of families alongside younger groups, some of whom seemed to be in a battle to see who could be heard loudest. The food, as always, was great. Between us we had one beef roast, one lamb roast, and a salmon. Generous portions, really tasty food. Even in these days where cost of living is high, I find myself asking if I want to be paying £26 for a roast dinner but that’s my choice to make. We’ll be back because we always enjoy it.

We booked a week in advance for Sunday lunch. We arrived and met with an immediate “oh sorry we need your table back in 1.5 hours, we tried calling but couldn’t get through”- was our welcome. We asked why, and they said we have a table of ten coming at 3pm. After seating the manager came over and said the same and explained they had a big table coming and needed our table back at 3pm. Again we questioned this, and tempted to leave but stayed . We did ask why they’d taken a booking and gave us a reduced ‘slot’ and they said again they had a big table coming. No other explanation. We skipped starters to make sure we weren’t rushed. We were given four flat glasses of Buck’s Fizz as an apology. Lunch was ok- the potatoes were hard, the yorkshires nice but so salty and my beef was pouring blood into the gravy. This is personal taste but not normal not to ask if you do serve blood pouring beef. No one checked us up- we had to ask for gravy, for the dessert menu, for more drinks and more wine. Overall, it was a racetrack, just a roast dinner conveyor belt with average roast dinner but stung £22 plus service for the main. Disappointing as used to be a nice venue, but the manager’s attitude and general welcome really poor and I can’t see this venue lasting. No doubt when it fails they will blame ‘current market and economy’.

I’ve been coming to this place for years having grown up in the area but I was hugely disappointed by my recent experience. We were a party of five family members meeting for a pre Christmas get together including my elderly parents (both in their mid/late 80s). We were told that our booking was for two hours yet we were seated 25 mins late, despite arriving on time, and then harassed to leave at the initial booking end time without any consideration to the fact that we were seated late. When we’d been sat for a few minutes the waiter came over and said that she’d need to take our order as the kitchen was closing soon. We ordered some extra drinks, when they arrived two of the three drinks were wrong. A Diet Coke instead of a Coke Zero, some random beer instead of a cider. My brother swapped his out at the bar but I just made do. There was no vegetarian/vegan main on the menu. I’ve been in pubs on the Outer Hebrides with a better vegetarian offer. This is Clapham. The waiter did acknowledge that it wasn’t good enough and initially pointed me towards the three cold veg/vegan starters but then said they could ask the chef if they could do me ‘something’. That ‘something’ turned out to be pasta and vegetables or risotto with broccoli etc. I opted for the risotto. What arrived was a very sad, grey, watery risotto with a few pieces of mushroom. We weren’t offered the dessert menu presumably because the kitchen had closed sometime previously. The pub was exceptionally busy and I could see the staff were doing their best in trying circumstances and were all very pleasant but why did the pub take our booking in the first instance? It seemed like a situation of trying to cram in as many bookings as possible in the lead up to Christmas to make as much money as possible without any consideration of the customer’s experience. This isn’t a cheap pub and what we had was a third rate experience instead of the joyful Christmas get together that we were all hoping for. There are plenty of other places to eat in Clapham and in future I will be doing just that.

Thumbs up for the Bobbin & their staff - chefs as well as well as service. It's more of a restaurant nowadays, with and judging any our last visit, the chef;s have raised their game - all five of us dining raved out our food, that's a first for me!

A popular pub located in a residential side street just on the edge of Clapham’s Old Town, it looks quite attractive from the outside with the extensive blue wooden façade covering the whole of the ground floor, although that’s obviously not original and thus not quite as traditional looking as it may have been at one time. The menu offered a decent enough selection of dishes, although they were certainly a step or two up from your usual “pub grub” both in terms of price and style. Even a burger was £17.50, with the majority of the main courses being around £25. I started with the Burrata, black fig & pomegranate salad with pesto, pine nuts, focaccia & Capezzana olive oil which was a decent and tasty dish, and a good start to the meal. For the main course I went for the Penne & Italian sausage ragú with tomatoes, chilli, oregano, cream and parmesan, and this too was a tasty dish and went down very well. The waitress serving was friendly and very hard working, although she had absolutely no idea how to pour a pint – my London Pride must have been at least 25% head. That said, the landlord spotted it immediately and whisked it away to be sorted before I’d had a chance to say anything. Overall, the food and the service was good here, but it was really a bit too frantic to be really enjoyable. The starters were served very quickly, and the general hubbub from the rest of the pub, especially with the rugby on the TV, made it somewhat less than relaxing.

Lovely pub with great bar, decor and atmosphere. Good menu although missing a lighter / healthier main option - quite a few pasta options and then others were sausages, burger etc. I had the beef ragu pappardelle which was delicious and very generous. I went with 5 friends, with two having the sausages and mash and the other two having the sausage ragu pasta - and everyone was delighted with their meal. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and afternoon there, looking forward to going back.

Our first time at the Bobbin did not disappoint. The manager was super helpful on arrival making sure we had shade in the lovely courtyard garden. The starters were delicious (burrata salad was calamari). The chicken roast was superb and friends ordered the halibut which was also lovely. The pub does not have a kids menu as such but the pasta the kids had was delicious, handmade and really tasty. Wish we had discovered this place a little sooner!

Having lived here for long enough, I know that pub lunch prices in London can be high, but the quality has typically followed. Not here - a very expensive menu is let down by badly cooked food. The Bobbin burger was dense and overdone, with no structure due to the amount of wetness on it through the mozzarella, sauce and onions and the chips were more like wedges, but nice and crispy. Friend's roast had rock solid roasties that needed a decent bit more cooking. Calamari starter was very tasty but again, expensive for the size. G&T was lovely so there's that. All in, passable food but too expensive for what you get and the service was just a bit unusual.

Sitting somewhere between a pub that does food and a gastropub, The Bobbin provides good food in a pub atmosphere serving a selection of good local ales alongside others from further afield. The starters (£6-£12) were generous, well cooked and tasty as were the mains. A good range of main courses with pasta dishes (£17.50) and a range of crowd pleasers, we went for the sea bream (£22.50) and the rib-eye steak (£29), both were well cooked but there were service issues - read on. The wine list was a bit pricey but provided a good selection in the £25 - £40 range. The staff were very friendly and helpful, but the overall experience was let down by service problems. The service itself felt very rushed. No sooner had we finished our starter when someone came and offered us dessert menus. Later, we still had food on one plate when they started to clear away our mains. We ordered the steak with the sauce on the side, it arrived poured over the meat so it had to go back. There was an inevitable delay but no account was taken of this, so one of us had finished their main course before the other's had even arrived! With a bit more care on the service side, The Bobbin could be very good.

This place is not child friendly, we were made to feel very uncomfortable about how noisy our children were (we had a 9 month old and one year old twins with us). We do our best to make sure they don't disrupt other customers when we dine out, but there's only so much we can do :( The manager was really horrible and said the babies hadn't stopped making noise since we arrived (they were laughing). If you're a child friendly pub you should accept that kids will make a certain amount of noise. If you're not happy with that, you need to advise people when they make a booking and don't force them out once they're in. Other customers even backed us up, saying we weren't a problem. We did get a refund for our meal when we requested it as we hadn't finished our food or drinks. On the food - calamari and croquettes were great. Tuscan sausages and shin beef were over salty. Food was overpriced and there are better value options in Clapham. Honestly, I've never felt more uncomfortable in my life.

Never in my life have I been treated with such aggression. Our table that was booked 4 weeks in advance was given away 2 minutes before our booking was due to begin. The incredibly rude manager hung up on me and then was beyond vile to me and my friends. Such a shame as I’ve had several lovely experiences at the Bobbin in 2022 and even recommended this place to friends however I will not be going back after this episode which ruined my New Year’s Day. If I could give zero stars I would. What a terrible start to the new year. Had a table booked by a friend on New Year’s Day for 2.45 for 6 adults and 3 babies and arrived half an hour early. We sat down but our baby was crying so thought we would go for a walk to get her to sleep before we were supposed to sit down, so she wouldn’t annoy anyone. Arrived back at 2.40 and saw other people sitting at our table and assumed we had been moved? Went to ask at the bar and was greeted by the most aggressive manager and bar staff. Ended up losing the table and trying to have a discussion with them was pointless as they were so unreasonable. We could not understand why they would give away the table 15 mins before our booking time. So we travelled an hour to have lunch with friends with our three one year olds only to be turfed out with everywhere else fully booked. Have never been treated so badly in a pub ever, I appreciate they may have been tired after New Years Eve but they should be embarrassed about how badly they handled the situation.

Great appetiser and main. The dessert was unfortunately really terrible. The taste was not great and the size was extremely small. 3 of us had the pear tart. 7 pounds each. Really felt as a rip off. Most likely they didn't have enough left and reduce the portions, but would have been more honest to say so than charging 3 slices for one.

Our daughter found the pub which is in a back street in Clapham. It is quite small and is set up like a restaurant rather than a pub. It was a Wednesday and they they were heaving a pub quiz so it was very busy! This math have accounted for the service being quite slow. It is not a fancy place so do not expect elegance but it is welcoming and tuned staff staff good. Thief food is not fancy either but it is all good stuff and all delicious. I would particularly commend the monkfish which was beautifully done and really delicious. I had the lamb shank which was also superb. It being a pub there was a good range of beers and also a good choice of wine. We enjoyed the quiz too, even although we did not take part in it! My only bad comment was that it was very noisy, but it was very busy and if was a pub so, really that is what you should expect. Nevertheless, a good experience which I would be happy to repeat.

6 of us came here for a Sunday Roast on a Sunday evening as we had heard some good things, however, it was quite disappointing. The roast looked the part but it was cold, the Yorkshire pudding was stale, and everything tasted as though it had been left out all day. I very politely asked the waiter if he could feed this back to the chef and asked if I could have some hot gravy to try and warm things up, but there was absolutely no apology or acknowledgement of what I had said. If you are going to charge almost £20 for a roast it needs to be worth it, it needs to be at the very least, hot. I give 2 stars because the pub itself is pleasant, the wine was good. Hope you guys can make some improvements.

Our experience was totally ruined buy the arrogant staff that made us feel they didn’t know us, need us and we were lucky to be there, It was pretty busy so guess they don’t need us, but I expect to be made to feel welcomed in any bar/restaurant/pub on arrival at the least. Seems like a solid enough neighbourhood pub, worth trying again with a little more time to savour. We had a late evening very quick outdoor dinner on a bank holiday and enjoyed very satisfactory ‘classics’ of chicken Caesar salad and fish cakes - only making these fairly ‘boring’ choices because we were in a rush. Ample servings! Would be good to see if their other less ‘standard’ dishes are done as well. I expect so. The only comment was that as we walked through the pub there was an overwhelming smell of bleach that wasn’t too great!

Don't bother eating food at this place there are plenty more options that are far superior. I went there with my husband and two young children for Sunday lunch and was really disappointed. The menu said different to what was served and the food was soggy and bland. Even the chips were horrible. Poor. Will never go again.

Gastropubs like The Bobbin are ten a penny in gentrified parts of London these days. As with a good number of street corner pubs that have recently experienced a makeover to meet new consumer demands, you find that while many aspects are perfectly OK, you rarely encounter anything providing that "wow factor". This is certainly the case here. Our first impression was positive as we entered the pub for a Sunday lunchtime booking; its inviting interior was clean, smartly furnished and bright -- the complete opposite to what many of these pubs were like in a former life! Though not particularly friendly and no doubt nursing hangovers from the evening before, the staff went about their work purposefully and with due care. The absence of irritating "pub music" was welcoming and left us feeling suitably relaxed for our entire stay. The recommended ale (Samsbrook) was fine, though slightly overpriced. My salmon fishcakes with spinach and hollandaise were tasty enough, but could have done with another vegetable accompaniment to justify the price. My girlfriend's pork belly roast main was more generously portioned and looked great. To finish, we shared a cheeseboard, which filled any remaining gaps adequately enough.Though the Bobbin is nothing spectacular and could do with charging a little less for what it has to offer, I'd be happily go back for a bite to eat or a beer in the future.

We were meeting with another couple and wanted a pub with a quiz - we looked up The Bobbin and the reviews were not the best. As it was geographically very well placed we decided to go for it anyway. We were so pleasantly surprised - the staff were nothing but very welcoming - we all ordered different meals and they were all well cooked and very tasty - the risotto, which another reviewer had panned was temperature wise very hot - bangers tasty - fish cakes delicious and burger great. Service was swift and with a smile. The quiz was great fun - varied questions and the quiz master had other games up his sleeve - good entertainment all round. Cosy atmosphere - good vibes and the customers all seemed to be having a lovely evening. We would, for sure, visit again.

Good atmosphere, good beers and decent wine list. Food wasn't terrible but the terrine was so cold it was tasteless and the risotto was a little undercooked. The place won't blow your head off but it's a fine place for a quick dinner with friends.

Having lived in the immediate area for a long time, I've seen the fortunes of this pub ebb and flow. I can certainly say that it is dipping into another of the poor times. I don't go in there often enough to be able to say exactly why but from my experience it is certainly no surprise that it's happening. In short, the staff are ambivalent. I think they think that they're working in a nightclub not a local. I'm not asking for sawdust on the floor and I don't smoke a pipe or have a dog, but a friendly 'hello' when you arrive and a 'thank you' or 'bye' when you leave wouldn't go amiss. They're just plain rude.

There were no roasts left and the pasta dish I chose had run out too. The staff were apologetic but it was a lot of money for a very simple pasta dish. Very disappointing - will not be going back.

We used to eat at the bobbin loads before but we stopped after we had a really bad service experience. We decided to go back and give it a shot. We booked a table at 7pm, and we mentioned that we had a baby with us. Once there we got sat at the table with no menu and waited till 7.30 pm till someone finally decided to approach is. He came over just to tell us that kids were not allowed after 8 and he had to ask us to leave . My partner was furious, terrible service and staff really uninformed in my opinion. Everyone is aloud a distraction or a mistake but sat people and make them wait and than tell them to leave it s just cruel. Plus no one pays attention to reservation requests. The bobbin went from 10 to 1.

I've been to The Bobbin twice now and on the first visit encountered a very rude barman. On the second visit the staff were much more friendly which was great. However, I ordered food and unfortunately my burger tasted like charcoal and my dessert of profiteroles was also burnt so these were hard. I was told this was a pub and it is for a drink but I wouldn't eat there again. Also all the other tables were served complimentary bread and we weren't.

Took my wife, mother in law and daughter for Sunday lunch. Staff were friendly and provided highchair. The place seemed nice and relaxed. Unfortunately the potatoes and parsnips arrived under cooked with the Roasts. They were apologetic and took them back and eventually came out with replacement meals that were cooked perfectly and tasted great. They even knocked these off the bill which was much appreciated. They didn't have great vegetarian options for one member of the party but otherwise it was a good experience.

The Tim Bobbin used to be a firm favourite when I lived in Clapham Old Town and was one of the few local pubs that served a great selection of beers, bar snacks, and restaurant quality food. The space at the back is still good for summer time but the place seems to have lost its way over the years and has become distinctly average. Drinks are ok if your choosing a well known brand, food nothing to write home about, and lacking the service with a smile feel the place used to have.

This is my local and I used to go to this pub for dinner at least twice a week. The service is horrible, no attention to customers but most important the food is horrendous! My partner ordered a burger and the meat was so under cooked that there was blood all over the plate. We told the waitress and she was smiling , I'd be embarrassed to serve something like that. Even the bread they use is low quality and it falls into pieces at the first bite. The pub looks lovely, it is great if you go for a drink but I wouldn't have food there. It's an english pub with poor quality food and restaurant prices. I spoke to the manager a couple of times and I think he needs a customer service training, smile!!

We were staying with family in Clapham between Christmas and the New Year and at the last minute booked a table here for the evening. The place is nicely decorated and extremely busy but this did not affect the service which was friendly and quick. My wife and daughter ordered the "House Burgers" which unfortunately were so undercooked they resembled burgers tartare! They were immediately replaced with a friendly apology from our very attentive waiter. For London prices, this place was great value and for us a real find. We shall be back.

We took a newly married man here after a fantastic weekend away and came here to play a game of cards and a have a couple of pints. The service was really disappointing and I found the staff very unfriendly. I think they even put service charge on our bill and we only had drinks. We were having a laugh at the table and suddenly we got asked to leave! I don’t know if they were having a bad day or something but really unnecessary. Customer service is key in my books.

We arrived having been recommended the roast from some friends of ours. We all ordered the ham hock terrine as a starter which came with enough toast to put around an eighth of the terrine on, we received a puzzled look when we asked for more bread. To be fair the terrine was good.We then moved on to our roast which came with under cooked soggy potatoes, a burnt yorkshire pudding and enough beef to feed a hunger stricken mouse. A roast isn't exactly rocket science, crisp potatoes, some well cooked veg, a light fluffy yorkshire, gravy and a slab of rare roast beef. We expressed our disappointment having spent £17.50 on our roasts to one of the waistresses, who was then seen to go into the kitchen and have a giggle with the chef. We then spoke to another waiter who said that the best he could do would be to kindly removed the 12.5% service charge, which, correct me if i'm wrong, is optional!!!Will not be returning.

Revolting, luke warm, greasy, over-priced food.Ordering errors caused by their incompetant, rude and damn right useless staff. No draft lager the Saturday before Christmas. A £55 'service charge' added to the bill, an insult. I could go on but this poor excuse for an establishment doesn't deserve anymore of my time. Go somewhere / anywhere else in Clapham. The Bobbin is an embarrassment.

A good crispy Sunday roast shouldn't be hard to make and I was expecting great things from this pub. But the potatoes were soggy and the pork belly was covered in a layer of squidgy, hairy rind that I had to cut off (the crackling is normally the best part). Around the table my friends were equally disappointed by dry chicken and overcooked beef. Starters consisted of a thin, yellow cauliflower broth with a half-piece of toast (not sure why we were expecting a wonderful wintery, creamy soup), a gristly rabbit terrine and a gelatinous duck and black pudding salad. We would have overlooked the bad food if the staff had been warm and friendly, but there was a palpable sense of depression mixed with resentment emanating around the room, and the manager was basically just a complete tos*er. So we escaped and went to No 32 just up the road where the espresso martinis were great and the staff were outstanding.

There's nothing amazing to be said about this place. 1) You feel like you're being crammed-in at the restaurant - it's a small place. 2) The food was OK, but the waiters either don't pay attention to our specific order requests. 3) The quality of service was average. It cost us £57 for two roasts and two drinks. It's far too overpriced in my opinion. I don't mind paying for excellent food but it wasn't worth the money in my opinion.

We were a party of 7 and found everything about the Bobbin to be excellent. Our starters and mains were innovative and truly delicious. We never felt like we were waiting for anything, yet importantly also didn't feel rushed at any point. Two of our diners were late to arrive and staff were totally chilled about it. Quite varied menu to appeal to different tastes, so a good location for a diverse group. The bar was buzzing but the main dining room was really relaxed and we could converse without raising our voices. All in all, very highly recommended!

I ate dinner at The Bobbin three years ago and recall being quite impressed so I suggested it for a Sunday lunch this month with friends. Unfortunately it was a quite disappointing. Two of us ordered the pork belly roast (one of which came with rather off-putting nipples that hadn't been removed as the chef is supposed to do!) and two had the chicken roast and none of us finished off all of our meals. It was cooked ok, but the gravy in particular was not great. The pork eaters were also disappointed that the restaurant had skimped out by only giving the chicken eaters Yorkshire puddings. Particularly as The Bobbin is at the dear end of the scale with mains being over £16 each and pints of beer at over a fiver in some cases. It didn't really help that our waiter was also a clearly just a gap year traveler passing through London who had little interest in learning how to do her job properly. She was pretty useless from start to finish. When another table held up a hand to get her attention to come to them after us she actually said: "Why are they waving their hand at me, can't they see I'm busy?" Which was at least quite amusing to us if unprofessional. On the plus side The Bobbin looks quite nice and the beer garden we ate in was pleasant. I might try it again sometime to eat from the evening menu, but for Sunday roast I'll certainly be avoiding it from now on. There are many other places that serve a much tastier roast and charge you less for the privilege!

4 of us ate here on Sunday 13/09/15. From the moment we walked in the service was poor & the food didn't improve matters. We walked in to 3 members of staff having a good chat & it wasn't until my friend interrupted them that they sat us down. We then were given an incorrect menu 3 times & the staff member didn't have a clue what was being served for lunches. After finally receiving the correct menu's she took a drink order however failed to understand what one soft drink was. When my friend eventually ordered a lemonade (was easier as she understood this) we ordered food. The food arrived, 3 of the party had beef & I had what was described as 'crispy pork belly', it was under cooked, stringy & chewy, definitely not crispy in any way.The beef was raw. 2 of the party asked for this to be cooked more & the staff took this away however didn't seem impressed to do so. Minutes later it came back, they'd fried it for a minute (no longer roast beef!) when they put it down they explained it was meant to be served medium/ rare which is fine however it was no where near medium/rare. One of our party still found this to be too raw to eat so had to send it back again where again they fried it a bit longer. We were then stared at for most of the mean by staff. It seemed as though because we were the first guests of the day, the food had not been cooked for long enough although this should be prepared for when your first customers arrive. It was a pre-booked table so they should have been expecting us!They charged for a larger soft drink than had been ordered so we had to ask them to take this off the bill & they charged us an £11 service charge which is laughable. We will not return & will be advising others not to either. Disappointing & uncomfortable experience.

I really like The Bobbin for Sunday Roast and I've been back quite a few times with big groups and another couple. I wluld have always given 4 stars but this time my mate ordered the belly pork and didn't really like it. My half chicken was great and so was the red wine though. Creme brulee was also good. It did feel a bit rushed this time and I'm not sure why! I do think it's become a bit expensive.

There are a lot of these type of places in London. This one in Clapham is no different to many others. Incomprensiblemente s / hite. Pedí un Old Fashioned. Me quejo . . . No, a regañadientes sigo bebiendo. . .

Really unpleasant welcome by door staff... went in a large group for a birthday...last person to enter was me (my birthday) ...they made a big deal that it was exactly midnight when I got through security, so charged me for entry and laughed about the poor customer experience they were giving. Very rude and put a downer on our night.
