Don't know what's happened, but I used to come to the Boathouse a lot. I won't be any more. Between the 2 men talking behind the bar in a foreign language. To being ignored when I asked for menus. Rude and dismissive and lack of customer service. The new manager was shouting in a foreign language whilst hitting himself in the head. Rather disturbing behaviour and I feel sorry for the people who have to work along side that man. I don't know where Sharon and her team have gone. But bring her back! The tables were dirty and sticky. The food was OK. But the service was non existent. And the smell of the pints made me feel sick! Why do lager pints smell of egg. It's was revolting. The bar tender and new manager did not care in the slightest, I didn't even get a refund. This place isn't cheap either. High prices to be spoken down to and shouted at. And heaven forbid, don't mention Sharon to the new manager, he goes flies off the handle about her. Not the response you expect any respectful manager. I would highly recommend people to avoid this place and find somewhere else to spend your money or bring Sharon back.

Terrible service. Me and my partner rang up to enquire about hiring the function room for a baby shower and the manager asked us to come in for a face to face meeting. When we arrived to the meeting (it was scheduled at 10am so the pub was not open), we knocked on the door multiple times and no-one came. The manager had forgotten about the meeting. When we eventually did meet, we booked the baby shower. A few weeks later, I emailed to confirm our numbers and they came back and said they had double booked the function room and we could no longer have it. We went in for another meeting to see what else they could offer us and they offered us the downstairs section of the pub, which we were not overly happy with as wouldn’t be as private but we accepted. Fast forward to a month before the baby shower, I emailed to ask what time we could come in on the day to put up our decorations, a week went by with no response so my partner rang up. During this phone call, he was told the manager had left and the new manager was unable to offer us the baby shower, but no-one had decided to tell us this. We are now weeks away from a baby shower with 70 people invited, family members having booked hotels and we have no venue. Absolutely appalled with how we’ve been treated, unprofessional from start to finish.

Went to the boathouse after it was recommended. I am a female customer I Went to the bar. The bar lady was serving a couple I was waiting patiently to be served a man walked upto the bar behind the couple being served. He then walked upto he bar and was served. The lady looked at me and continued to serve the man. I said excuse me but I was here first which he disagreed with he was continued to be served so I said that they had lost my custom. I find this happens a lot. Women are ignored over men. I tried to call the boathouse but no answer and the mail box was full.I hope the ignorant man is happy with himself. I will NEVER recommend a place like this

We arrived at opening time and there was a general lack of cleanliness. There was food under our table - so obviously hadn't been cleaned The whole place looked like it could do with a deep clean. The carrots and broccoli on the roast were raw and although we sent them back the carrots were still not soft enough to cut. Burger good apparently and drinks nice. Staff polite and efficient. I wouldn't come back to eat again

Visited Friday evening in a party of 9 for evening meal (pre booked and pre ordered food). Setting of pub is beautiful. Having pre ordered main meal, the food was brought out hot and ready, however we had only been seated max 5 mins before it was on the table. Food was delicious however menu would benefit from more description. For example, the 'pork belly' was a pork loin and the southern fried chicken burger was rather spicy. For desserts, information on options that were gluten free were conflicting. The menu online said one thing, the staff were saying another, and the physical menu provided said something else. Did not fulfil us with confidence. Desserts also could do with further description on the menu. The 'Eton mess' was cream with a dusting of meringue, 4 berries and some fruit compote. A slight difference to what was expected. We were also assured that the manager would make herself known to the table due to dietary needs- however this did not happen. When making the reservation it was not made clear that a band was playing in the evening. Although this not being a problem as they were not due to start until 10pm. However, the sound check was done around 8:30pm and they started well before 10pm. The pub was heavily packed which meant that we could not access the toilet the other side of the bar easily (member of the party is pregnant). When wanting to pay the bill, it took over 20 minutes for this to be given and then a further 20+ minutes for the card machine to arrive. Additionally, on leaving, we had to navigate through the heavily packed crowd to exit. Definitely in need of some improvements.

shame that a great location is let done by the mediocre food. In spite of two emails and replies from the boathouse they had no reservation booked . . The food was very overpriced with a 15 % service charge. The Eaton mess was very poor for £7.50, the beef was tough the kale inedible. Won't be going back, very disappointing as it's a great location. Meal for two was over £50

I am very disappointed with The Boathouse. We booked a table for a special occasion, my 40th birthday, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to our expectations. The service was slow, and the waiter often forgot what we ordered, so we had to ask several times before we received our items. The food quality was poor, and it definitely wasn't worth the price . Certain items were not available on the menu, which was not communicated to us until we were ready to place our orders. Which meant we had some disappointed and moody children at the table. The whole experience felt chaotic and unpleasant. There has been no apology from the restaurant at all. We were left to look after ourselves most of the time. I will definitely not recommend this place to anyone. Also, the play area could use some tlc. There were missing screws and planks in places. There are almost no tables in the shade near the play area, so on a warm day, like today, we couldn't sit outside. Just another letdown.

We visited the Boathouse on a Friday (with live music which was really good). Although we had no reservation, we felt welcome and the service personell was always friendly. The problem was the food which was one of the worst experiences I had so far in my (50+) life! The fish platter (recommended to be shared; true to the motto: a sorrow shared is a sorrow halved) consisted of only convenience food which was rather uneatable; the mouthfeel of the tempura prawns as well as of the squid was reminiscent of moulded meat, not of a „natural“ consistence at all and the sardines were sold out (which itself is OK) doubling the quantity of the squid rings. The side ordered halloumi sticks were anything else but halloumi (in the best case mozzarella). The corn on the cob (part of the kids menu) came directly out of the fridge without having had contact with a grill, pan or any other cooking device. But the drinks, the live music and the service were good!

I held my 30th birthday party in the function room of The Boathouse last weekend and everything was perfect! The function room had its own bar, balcony, PA system and lights and was the ideal space for us. Sharon was incredibly helpful in the lead up to the event, allowing us to decorate the space in advance and giving us plenty of options of food for the party, we opted for veggie curry with lots of sides and it was delicious! When we arrived to set up ahead of the party Josh showed us the room and sorted out everything we needed. Holly and Megan ran the bar for us in the evening and did a brilliant job! A huge thank you to everyone for helping to make the best party!

I haven't been to the boathouse for a while. I had 2 friends from Australia staying with me and they wanted to eat out, somewhere on the river so I thought we'd go there. It's nice inside, much as I remembered it and the staff were lovely and friendly. Unfortunately, after nearly an hours wait (and the dining area was not busy at all) the food was very poor. My friends had the battered hake - one needed gluten free so that was grilled for her, which was fine. When I asked them how it was they said 'it's ok, I've had better' - they didn't finish their meals. I had a margherita pizza which was the worst pizza I have ever seen, or eaten. It had a dough base covered in thick tomato paste and covered in a few squares of pre-packed cheese barely cooked. I ate round the edges and left the middle. I didn't complain at the time because I didn't want my friends to feel uncomfortable. I really like the boathouse as a venue and I'm hoping we just got the chef on an off day but on that experience I wouldn't recommend dining there to anyone else.

On arrival, we were advised there would be a wait for food and only serving food indoors, which was good of them to say. We decided to stay and eat. Whilst the service was a bit erratic as some coming in after us were served their food before us. Plus, the wait for drinks was a bit painful. To be fair, the manageress and the girl that served us were very pleasant at all times. The only other area was the toilets - there was no paper in the gents, and it looked as though they hadn't been cleaned.

Was very disappointed from the start. I booked over a week before to be told to look at the menu online and send an order by email. There were 13 of us. Tried ringing all week just to confirm they had our menus choices and check that all was good. Could not get through on the phone it kept going to answer phone. After 15 attempts on the day of booking finally got through to be told menus was an old one. We turned up and ordered on the night. Waited for 1.5 hours for food to arrive, one of the chicken burgers didn't come out. They had completely forgotten it. So after another half an hour of waiting we.got the meal, this was now 2 hours after arrival and she had to go and sing in the band so couldn't eat her burger. Asked for it to be put in a takeaway and the young girl literally threw it on the table. Fish and chips tasted of curry or something spicy. We said we werent going to pay for the chicken burger in the box and the lady said welll if you don't pay for it you can't take it away. But it would only go in the bin anyway. I'm sorry but the service was not good and won't be going again

We had an enjoyable meal on Saturday 30th so booked again for Sunday . We were booked in for 5-30pm arrived shortly before then. We were seated quickly and were told the kitchen closed at 5-45pm could we please order our meal and dessert asap! We ordered 2 chicken waited nearly 30 mins and a chicken and beef arrived both cold. The potatoes were almost raw inside, the accompanying veg were undercooked and barely warm. It was too late to change the meals. The cauliflower cheese was hot and delicious The young server Jess was delightful and couldn’t do enough for us. We realised that it was Easter Sunday and the place was busy, however the obvious lack of staff rather spoilt things as there was a large amount of empty glasses covering the bar for the whole time we were there.

The lady behind the bar was lovely and got a bowl of water and treats for our dog which was lovely. Sadly everything else was terrible. Took an hour for food to arrive and when it did it got sent straight back. Ordered the sausage and mash and the sausages had no colour on them and I mean NO colour so suspect they had been microwaved. They didn't even look cooked. Swapped for fish and chips and the fish was nothing like the images on other reviews. More like Birds Eye frozen fish that had been reheated - flat, greasy and soggy. I'm guessing the usual chef doesn't work on Monday or Tuesday which is why you can't book tables online and they just reheat food. The chips also weren't properly cooked and had no seasoning on them. We left extremely disappointed and went to the local Sainsbury's to get dessert.

Food was lovely, although having fish and chips I swapped the chips for salad, I did expect a little more than a small pile of salad leaves - maybe a little cucumber and tomato. The desert menu is quite small and if you’re not a sticky sweet, chocolatey person then it’s lemon posset which I wouldn’t normally have gone for, but it was nice. No first aider on site from what we experienced, luckily mum (myself) healthcare professional but I shouldn’t have to be forced to deliver first aid to my 11 month old baby. Charged for full meal and drink, even gratuity!! Fuming about this but didn’t want to make a scene, we were offered a free drink ONLY!! 100% honest, I want my money back, food wasn’t even hot - baby’s burger was spicy and tasted like blue cheese too 😐. Unfortunately the "salt and pepper" squid wasn't particularly salt & peppery, and cut far too thick, but was ok. No complaints about any of the other food, which was very nice. Add in the reasonable prices, and nice wine, and you're left with a great little pub for a nice lunch.

Pre booked, asked for window but was placed elsewhere and then we were asked to move, to the window. So, we got seats as requested. Service fairly quick, wonderful food. Lovely atmosphere, we had gone with a friend, live music started at 9pm so we left, as we wanted to chat, ordinarily the music we might have enjoyed. It's great to have a local venue that can provide food and music.

A quaint marina pub giving lovely options for food and drink at a fair price tag, the indoor seating is clean and modern and they do accept bookings for large groups, as well as having more space upstairs for events. The children's play area of a pirate ship is a bit on the older side but can still entertain so something to do for the little ones and plenty of space on both sides of the venue for outdoor seating, either the grass area or the patio.

Rather scruffy menu but contained excellent food, except smoked mackerel which was way more than just smoked.

A beautiful setting, but terrible service for our large group. Rushed to order, server didn't understand how gluten free food should be prepared. Unfortunately our coeliac friend became ill that night from the apparently gluten free mush that they called risotto. Would stop in for a drink as it's a lovely setting, but food... no chance.

It is the HOTTEST day of the year so far and I'm told the ice machine hasn't worked for weeks! Seriously? So a successful company has made a very hot customer Very unhappy. Fed my fuel of chains taking from Independents. They'd have fixed their machine. Costa doesn't need to care. Too many of them mean if a few aren't working, their pockets are still lined by the others 🙄

Awful place AVOID Room was covered in dust, heating wouldn't turn off, rubbish all over the floor and under the bed, hairs on the toilet, bathroom ceiling paint coming off and dropping in the bath, stayed 2 nights and only saw 1 member of staff the whole time, refused to eat there as wouldn't trust that the kitchen was as dirty as the room

Lovely little hotel in Amesbury, just 10 minutes from Stonehenge. The quaint and very old building had charm, even if it made getting to the room very difficult (3 flights of stairs and various hallways under ever lower ceilings until we arrived in our attic room). The room itself was very comfortable and clean, the bathroom was newly renovated. Brief confusion with the extra bed for the toddler as it was provided without sheets, pillows and blankets. However, upon request, something from the adult collection was lovingly designed. Dinner in the pub was excellent, although service was a bit slow. Breakfast in the same premises the next day was equally delicious and typically British. Overall, a house with charm and perfect for excursions simply because of its proximity. Child-friendliness is very important! Only an older waitress fell through the cracks because of her grumpy demeanor.

Very disappointed was no chips with the food. Prefer fish and chips and ribs so my son is sat here just eating a fish! No point in ringing as it will take ages for chips to arrive and the food will be cold! Missing a salad which I paid for. Don’t read the notes on the order

Love this pub. It's the best pub in Marlborough. The locals are friendly as are all the bar staff and you are immediately made to feel welcome. It's got a good selection of beers and if you're hungry the café in the courtyard is excellent for breakfast and lunch. I can't fault this pub.
