The Boat Inn in Doncaster

I’m hoping it’s a coincidence that since I ate here I’ve been rather unwell with an upset stomach. We also had to wait an hour to get our starters and almost 40mins to get our first drinks…

Our server was amazing- bent over backwards to make our lunch experience fantastic.

As a frequent visitor to The Boat Inn, last Saturday 15/2/2025 as a diner l was somewhat dismayed by this establishment allowing owners with their dogs to sit in the dining areas. Whilst I've nothing against dogs l feel that their is a time and a place and around a dining table certainly isn't!. To sit amongst four seperate dogs on a relatively quiet Saturday lunchtime isn't something that goes down well whilst having a meal and yes we were sat at the table prior to the dogs arriving. Secondly the clearing of tables, without naming the person a particular member of staff twice attempted to clear a table that had been left with used crockery for over 20 minutes after the customers had vacated, it's not a good sign!. Having emailed the company/Boat Inn last Saturday 15/2/2025 I've yet to receive a reply back. It's a shame really as The Boat Inn is a really good venue and generally the staff are obliging and on it!.

We both really enjoyed our early-evening Valentine's Day special menu meal last night! On a damp, chilly evening by the River Don, we were greeted warmly and shown to our table by the log fire...a bonus. The food was promptly served by Adrian and we both loved our starters...my wife chose the Pâté while I went for the scallops and prawns. The rare to medium Chateaubriand (accompanied by a good Rioja) was beautifully cooked and very tasty while the sticky toffee puddings were also delicious. All in all a delightful early-evening celebration meal and we'll be back soon, all being well. Thanks to one and all...

We recently went for a Valentines Day meal. The service was excellent, particularly Tracy who was very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent! Thoroughly enjoyed it!

We were served by Adrian last week. We came in for dinner after our walk. We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we walked in. Services were amazing and Adrian was very attentive. The food was amazing! Highly recommended. We will be returning again today after our walk. Thank you Adrian :)

We enjoyed a stop-over night in our motorhome and had an evening meal in this lovely pub. Very dog friendly and great dog walks too. You cant book a parking spot however we stayed on a Wednesday in Feb and had almost the whole car park to choose from. Our M.H is 7.49 so on a busier day you might struggle but under 7m would be fine...and it's free!! You just need to eat or drink in the Boat Inn. Friendly staff and good food.

Typical Vintage Inn, good quality food, great service, nothing to complain about really.

Small portions, cold, hot chocolate was tepid, expensive for what you get

Amazing service was served by a girl called daniella, very nice polite girl made sure we had everything we needed. It was my birthday she brought me a pudding with a candle was very sweet will definitely be going again.

We were served by Adrian who ensured we were made to feel very welcome. He even gave us treats for our 4 legged family member. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked. We will definitely be returning soon.

Good quality food at reasonable prices. The over all look of the place is very unique and feels welcoming. Our server Adrian gave us good service made sure we were not allergic to anything and made our experience special.

Really nice pub with amazing food! I honestly couldn't fault anything. I've come back twice for food and a coffee, I've attached some pictures. I've only had the breakfast menu so far, and highly recommend so i can only imagine the dinner menu is just as good. Really nice area to walk around too along the canal and over to the viaduct.

We have visited The Boat Inn a few times in January 2025 as they have a special offer on which can be viewed when you down load The vintage Inns app and get all the latest deals.We visited on a Thursday and there was still plenty of atmosphere in the pub with a fair few people enjoying the latest offer.I tried the Chicken penang curry with rice which was delicious and my husband had the chicken burger which was also very tasty.The staff are always kind,friendly and helpfull. I can highly recommend a visit to this lovely pub .

The boat inn is a beautiful village pub with a very large and inviting beer garden. We had a very nice mid week meal, Adrian is very attentive and friendly.

Food, service and drinks were all great. It was my husband’s birthday and we were given a complimentary bottle of Prosecco as members of their loyalty program which was an added bonus.

Visited again recently. Great food, great atmosphere and good beer. Really enjoyed it. Served by Adrian, Owen and Amila January 2025. Lovely place to go for a drink in the evening sun. Sit outside on a warm night with a cold beer. Very nice.

Had a work meeting, the pub had just opened. Staff were friendly and our coffee had a wonderful home made flap jack, what a lovely touch!!

Great food, cosy atmosphere, open fires, great value The Boat is on the bank of the River Don, so if a nice walk followed by a nice pub dinner is your thing (or the other way round) then you can’t go wrong here I’ve not tried many dishes but the pork belly, beef rib, and pie of the day have all been sampled and will be sampled again

First time visit to the Boat Inn and overall it’s a nice pub in a lovely spot for a walk down the river then a drink or some food. Very dog friendly in fact I think there might have been a dog at nearly every table (in the dog friendly section). The food was nice, described by one of our group as a better than your usual “pub grub” and with no complaints from any of us. Service from the Abby & the rest of the team was pleasant, and engaging. But they were very busy so it did take time to get our main meals despite pre-ordering as there were 9 of us. We weren’t in a rush so wasn’t a problem for us. Felt like a couple more staff would have helped as it was equally busy at the bar. We will certainly be back again.

Met up with other family, two couples, today. First time visit but was very impressed with the building and location, the welcome, staff and food. Service by Adrian, Flick and Kelly was great and the food delicious. Will definately go again in the summer.

Early January visit for tea after work. Opted for the double skewer kebab meal I went for one king prawn and one Moroccan chicken with the flat bread and hummus as the side (didn't take a pic of the side, sorry, but it was very yummy and a big portion!). Service from Adrian and lady behind the bar very helpful and friendly. Such a cosy, warm pub on a freezing cold evening (snow/ice). Nice toilets, music playing in there a nice touch. Will visit again, this was my first time as I am not local.

The Boat Innat Sprotborough never disappoints. Food is lovely. Served by Flick and Adrian who are always very pleasant and helpful.

Really good visit once more. Nice polite and courteous staff. Patient and well versed on the menu, helping us with our choices of order. Very apologetic when food was not available. The roaring fire was a very nice plus on a cold snowbound evening. The food itself was really nice in both presentation and flavour. We only had soft drinks as I was driving otherwise , looking at the wine list , we definitely would have had a bottle. Nice sensible portions. We will call again.

Called in for a breakfast on a Saturday morning. Excellent food.

Very nice food, nice place and lovely staff. They lose a point due to issues with card machines which meant paying was difficult, and one of our desserts was initially forgotten about so came when everyone else had finished.

I understand tables are reserved online WITHOUT a deposit. However, if you decide to ‘pop in’ and see numerous tables available and not reserved, one would assume you could sit down and order as we were told by staff that one couple could turn up in an hour or so. Empty tables are not profitable, so the only conclusion I can come to is that staff don’t give a flying fig about empty tables as they get paid anyway and it is obviously less work for them. I think the online booking system is ridiculous. Customers can book a table without leaving a deposit and just not turn up! Not good business sense and to turn customers away when there’s available tables doesn’t look good for management or your profit.

Just returned from having Christmas Day lunch and could not fault anything. This is the second time we’ve been and the food and service were excellent. Thanks to Adrian and Liv for serving us today, nothing was too much trouble. We are hoping to book again for next year!

The food was lovely and the staff were so attentive and made sure we were well looked after. Adrian was great too, looking festive in his Christmas shirt and making sure we were both okay. Will be definitely visiting after the new year.

Popped in here for lunch on route to County Durham as it's close to A1M. Really friendly service and dog friendly, Adrian made us feel most welcome. Menu was varied while food was prompt and tasty. Would definitely visit again, glad we booked ahead as looked popular on a Sunday.

Lovely pub for a Sunday lunch! Such a cosy spot with the fireplaces and Christmas decorations. Sunday roast was delicious and generous in size. Adrian was a great host, looking after us (including our dog!) really well! Would definitely recommend.

Visited today and managed to secure a table. Food and service were brilliant. The beef brisket sandwich was gorgeous. They had a brass band playing, and it was so lovely. Really welcoming pub and lovely customers. There are lots of cute dogs, too.

It was lovely. We were in the dog area and it was very nice indeed. Food was excellent but portion sizes very small fir the main meal. Prawn linguini is no better than a starter so if avoid. The desserts are good especially the crumble.

This restaurant is top notch pub dining. Haven’t enjoyed ourselves for a dinner out so much in ages. Really interesting menu and really good service. We ‘wildcamped’ nearby in our campervan and wanted somewhere for dinner and a breakfast. The Boat Inn ticked every single box. The staff couldn’t be more helpful on arrival and after perusing the menu over a well kept ale, we were shown to our table. We asked to move because it was cold and draughty and our request was granted with a smile and no hint of exasperation (previously experienced elsewhere). Starters were okay, nothing special (my wife ordered a fish cake and I had scallops and prawns in a cheese dressing which unfortunately overpowered the fish). However … main courses of barbecued skewers were superb. Beautifully cooked and well presented. Yum, yum. My dessert was the best I’ve ever eaten. A Caramac chocolate ball filled with ice cream on a (cold) strawberry and apple crumble. God, it was heaven on a plate. Breakfast the following morning was equally yummy - Eggs Benedict for me and a full English for Mrs D. Service by Abbie for dinner and breakfast was outstanding, truly, a flawless example of how to do the job. I highly recommend The Boat Inn, we will definitely return even though it’s 100 odd miles from home.

The Boat Inn is a lovely pub serving great food which is a beautiful setting for any event or celebration. We were celebrating a Thursday afternoon off work! The staff are friendly and accomodating, the drinks and food was excellent it's dog friendly and they have roaring log fires this time of year. Thanks to Adrian and Abbie who looked after us. We will be back, going for a lay down now...

Are Server Amelia was polite and friendly our four legged friend absolutely loved the free treats from Amelia. Food was fresh and cook to nicely. My only critique is for the burgers to have a cooking option of well done or medium rare etc, mine was well done but I prefer medium rare. overall a great experience.

Lovely place to drop into for a quick drink after a walk as well as a meal with atmosphere if you want. A special place for me as it was the venue for my first date with my now wife.

We went to meet a friend for lunch and really enjoyed our visit. The staff, although rushed off their feet, were helpful and very pleasant. The food was good too. I had the sea bass and it was beautifully cooked. My husband said the lasagne was great and our friend enjoyed his burger. The place is warm and welcoming and we'll be going again.

Very nice meal after a day at the races. Very generous portions good value for money and a cracking pint of Timothy Taylors. The 2 lads who served us Adrian and Owen very polite and attentive. Highly recommend the boat Inn to anyone who hasn't tried it before.

Adrian and the rest of the team were absolutely fantastic. The food was gorgeous and plentiful and the fact it’s super dog friendly is the icing on the cake! Spotlessly clean and the roaring fire was tended to consistently!
