The Boat Inn in Doncaster

We booked a dog friendly table for brunch at 12. We arrived 15 minutes early, we were on a long hike. The guy on the bar was lovely. Brought our drinks and menu to the table. I had to ask him for the brunch menu which he found and gave to me. We ordered two full English. Five minutes later the waiter returned full of apologies that they don't do brunch on a weekday. If that is the case, why was I able to book a table via the link on the brunch menu on your website? I can't find the times/days of your brunch menu on your website even though I was told it is there, it most definitely isn't on the menu itself. We had arranged our hike to incorporate a visit to Boat Inn, we won't be doing so again.

We visited on Easter Sunday and although very busy the staff were very accommodating, and the manager Adrian was kind enough to let me sit with my family even though I hadn’t booked (it was a last minute decision to join them). Excellent service, delicious food, and a lovely pub in beautiful surroundings next to the river.

Lovely pub but experience spoilt by some customers with their dogs. Called for a drink over the bank holiday weekend - been many times but never felt the need to mention dogs before as owners have always controlled their their pets and are respectful of other customers. Firstly there was a young woman with her friend and her dog - that was sat in a chair. I wouldn't like to be the person who uses that chair next - at your home that's fine but not in an expensive country pub. Then the family with the dog that kept yapping so loudly that it hurt your ears. I know this is a dog friendly pub but it shouldn't be at the expense of the other visitors. Show some respect for other customers. That and the dance music thumping out from the kitchen at full volume to the point you couldn't actually hear the restaurant music.

The food was okay but could have been better, service was fairly good, it was quite busy so understandable that staff were under pressure. 1 out of the 2 starters were incorrect, and burnt so was sent back. Mains were warm but not piping hot. Would have scored higher if the mains were piping hot and if correct starters were brought out instead of sending back and having to wait. Probably would return but not in a hurry.

Really lovely relaxing lunch with my two dogs and very well looked after by Adrian. Great menu choices and wine list. Perfect for a long dog walk along the river. Will definitely be back.

Great to be back to the pub we love...........but I've got to say its not at the standard before the floods.....our food order was taken by our waitress and was told there would be a 40 min wait ( pre booked table) after 20 mins another waitress approached us to say our order had not gone through to the kitchen so we had to re order.....the food eventually came and was very good, but on leaving the restaurant we heard the same excuses being given to customers that their orders had not reached the kitchen.......maybe glitches since reopening but just be honest with your customers rather than make lame excuses......it really wasn't a problem but its how you handled the situation that was at concern.

Average at best, our meals were cold mine I had to send back! That's £140 I won't be getting back. I was looking forward to our visit, but we won't be returning

Good choice of dishes on the menu. I had kebab and my husband had a signature burger. Both very tasty and very filling. Service was good and Adrian was friendly and helpful. We hadn't been to The Boat Inn for a while but would certainly recommend and will be back soon.

Staff, onbiyonce fantastic, open fire blaring feeling a very warm welcome especially from our waiter withe paisley shirt. Celebrating a 58th anniversary on St Patrick's day wonderful day. Only criticism I have is the price of roast lamb as it was very chewey & felt expensive for what it was. Please crunchy roast potatoes bring them back. Very good service enjoyed very much

Had a Sunday dinner x 4, and the food was absolutely "out of this world"! Probably the best we've ever had, anywhere! Not the cheapest, but simply stunning, looking forward to next time already 👌👍(We were served by Adrian)

£17 odd for 3 pints of lager from the bottom of the barrell. Changed barrell mid way through pouring third pint. Didn't give fresh pint, just topped up. I'm not a drinker so unsure if this is standard procedure but I found it annoying.

The food is always excellent. However, the service was almost non existent. Drinks ordered and had to go back to the bar 35 minutes later to ask where were they. Food arrived but no cutlery on the table. Waitress didn’t pick up on this so had to ask. The drinks then finally arrived after we had commenced our meal. It did look as though you were short staffed which is disappointing for a birthday celebratory meal.

Been tonight for Mother’s Day meal.. the meals were gorgeous and so tasty. The general pub gives a nice, warm and cosy feeling. We was served by Adrian, he had a very funky shirt on which we liked! He was very friendly and couldn’t have done more. Thank you Adrian for making our visit, hope to see you again in another funky shirt! Haha!

We came to the Boat Inn today to treat our Mum for Mother's Day & I cannot fault the service or the food it was amazing & the food was lovely with great portion sizes. We had the lovely Adrian looking after us, he catered to our every need & his fashion sense is spot on with his snazzy shirt. 10/10 all around.

Seated straight away as we went in. Holly our waitress was extremely friendly smiley & helpful. Sunday roast was very nice, plenty of meat and a good selection of vegetables.

Great staff, cosy atmosphere, lovely food

Came for lunch on my birthday with my mum and a friend. Was very busy bar area so wasn't seen to straight away as seem to have been short staffed behind the bar So maybe have someone just checking in people and showing to tables Staff were very friendly though and food aboustley beautiful. We did have a bit of a wait on the food and we ordered a min pudding with hot drink Which the drink should come with pudding but again because short staffed behind the bar the coffee came after the pudding we had to ask pretty much when we had finished the puddings ,how much longer would be for the coffee . Hopefully just teething problems with little things like that as it's just reopened after being flooded and lots were coming for drinks that had been out walking as well as coming for food Which the place is beautiful,staff are nice and good lovely food

Had lunch there this afternoon after only a week of re-opening. The food was fabulous, served by Luke & Beth who were so attentive, polite & imformative of everything we ordered, could'nt have asked for any more, we'll definatley be back. Carol, Paul & Karen x

We found our experience 5* today 18/2/24, from a straightforward booking process online to welcoming staff where nothing was too much trouble! Tracey (who looked after us) spent time talking to our daughter which made her feel so happy throughout our sitting - Thankyou to the Chefs and all front of house service for a great Sunday lunch and making our visit a great one!!! The Boat Inn The Boat Inn has just opened again and I hoped for an improved offering given the scarcity of places to eat on the area. The decor is good and is warm and welcoming. Booked in for an evening meal for two which despite showing limited time slots on their app was not busy. The drinks were good but the wines were overpriced with a New Zealand Sauvignon coming in an almost £40 a bottle. Reds were similarly priced. The table service was fine given the difficulty in finding staff and there was a genuine willingness to help. The food was unfortunately as bad as it ever was. Prices have increased which is inevitable but the quality is so bad it is difficult to say more than it filled a hole. The signature burger, given its name, you would think would have some relation to beef but alas no. This burger had more in common with kids playdo than beef. It was probably the worst burger I have ever been served … ever. The first offering was sent back due to it being a danger to my teeth the replacement was little better. Synthetic, flavourless, plastic are words to best describe this, Signature item, but mostly synthetic. Imagine the worst burger you’ve ever had and this was worse by far. The 10 chips it came with were fine. Frozen but fine. In my view , if a pub can’t offer an edible burger related to a cow, then they don’t deserve to succeed. The problem is that the kitchen is supplied with the lowest quality items and they really can’t do much with it. If you were hoping that the food had improved since the Boat Inn last closed you will be disappointed and a little poorer. It’s a real shame because it could be so much better. A great location but for something edible try the Newton down the road. Hi Felicity It appears my point was missed. If you call something ‘signature’ you are in my opinion saying this is the best! and it was the worst.! Not because of how it was cooked but because of how it started out. To balance things, our visit was pleasant and I am sure that other items on the menu may in fact be OK but my food was not passable in any venue. I am not being mean to you but the Signature food has to be better.

Staff, good. Food, great. Drinks great. Table for 2 position a bit isolated around a corner next to a wall and firedoor which was open, kept banging in the wind, and used as a thoroughfare.

Service was good but very slow we had a long wait ...plus they put too much salt on the chips without asking first ...

I regularly visit the Boat inn at Stoke Bruerne during visits to Towcester Greyhound racing, it is in a very scenic village located next to the canal, although haven't dined there yet i am planning on doing so soon, the service is excellent very friendly and helpful staff and the food looks amazing and excellent quality from what i hear from diners on tables close by, there is always a lot of people dining when i visit generally breakfast or lunch but from the comments i hear it really is an impressive dining experience and very much look forward to trying the fayre on offer for myself

We came with friends for Sunday lunch. Lunch was lovely. I was very disappointed that you ran out of Custard. I also thought it was very expensive. Would I come back, not sure.

Good outside area, with plenty of seating. Atmosphere inside is very comfortable. Dogs are welcome, with doggy treats available.

Had a few drinks here whilst we were waiting to join a 'party boat' on the river. Can't comment on how the food tasted, but it looked really good. Good choice of beers and it is a really nice pub.

Beautiful location great looking restaurant a great time with friends Downside the worst prawn coctail Ive ever had. Terrible presentation 3 day old lettuce 6 uncooked small prawns covered by a dollop of instantly forgettable sauce premium priced. Fish and chips was good. Many menu items not available wouldnt go again. The staff were first class

It was lovely. We were in the dog area and it was very nice indeed. Food was excellent but portion sizes very small fir the main meal. Prawn linguini is no better than a starter so if avoid. The desserts are good especially the crumble.

We Went out for lunch on Saturday didn't book a table we managed to get a table near rhe window was lovely we ordered our drinks they came pretty quickly abd thrn ordered the food which agsin didn't take too long had the prawn and tomato tagettile was lovely very tasty and very hot the prawns were so fresh .. enjoyed our lunch and rge service was good too would recommend x

On arrival was a very warm welcome a member of staff assisted us to a table for myself partner and 2 children. The food was absolutely lovely, the service was very quick. Service was with a smile. No complaints. We will be back for sure.

Had a lovely family meal there last night. What an amazing member of staff you have in Adrian. My son is autistic and can sometimes struggle, but Adrian engaged with him and made the whole experience lovely. Not forgetting the amazing food, thanks chef. Would 100% recommend the Boat Inn.

The waitresses were very nice fand riendly The food however was poor I had ribeye steak medium that was mostly inedible with lots of gristle running through it and on the outside edges my husband has beef in wine pie under the puff patry lid there was not much filling .

Food tasted devine my only criticism was broccoli had been dipped in boiling water but other than that all good.

This is a fabulous pub in a lovely location and just a few minutes off the A1. The food was delicious and the service was genuine, friendly and welcoming (thank you Adrian). I recommend a visit.

Staff members need to become more professional and start respecting each customer. Not only to focus on the person who they think is paying the bill, and the waiter got it wrong, about whos paying the bill. Also it was a birthday dinner, which i left notes when making a booking, but the staff didnt even bother saying happy birthday upon arrival.

We enjoyed a great meal with friends, the waiter Adrian was very nice and made the evening very enjoyable. The food was great and it was a great atmosphere.

The food was delicious and the order was taken promptly. Staff were very courteous and helpful. However we were there for around 50 minutes before our food arrived. I eventually had to ask a member of staff how much longer it might be. The wait time was a bit too long even for a busy time.

Excellent food and drinks in a cosy welcoming country style pub right by the banks of the river Don. A very good meal for myself and my partner and a place we will definitely return to in the near future.

We've not visited here for a while so we thought we'd pop in. Plenty tables outside but they are in need of a refurb. We ordered drinks and then decided to eat. One starter was disappointing due to its size and the other was pretty average for the price. We were a little disappointed with the fish and chips and hunters chicken! Overpriced and the chicken was soggy and the crust was burnt. The vegan curry was acceptable.

Firstly think staff need to give right information out. I went in to order drinks n food to be told pizzas are off menue today so we opted for fish n chips. We sat eating ours when the waitress brought out another tables order PIZZA then another table with pizza too.. very disappointing

Lovely pub, nice food but a tad overpriced in my opinion.

Made an order for delivery and was sorely disappointed. Everything was incredibly dry, from the beef to the burgers. Roast potatoes and fries seemingly cooked from frozen. "Brisket" on their "signature" burger more of a suggestion than a portion, and topped with a plastic cheese slice 🤮. My son will normally eat anything with potatoes and gravy on, so we thought at least he'd be fine. He literally looked at me and said "daddy, I don't want these. I want the real potatoes". Out of the mouths of babes. I could forgive this of a Wetherspoons or something of that calibre. But they're charging £17.50 for a Sunday roast, £17 for a burger and Frozen chips. It's daylight robbery, as far as I'm concerned, and upsetting - I don't think I've ever had a meal where I was more convinced that the chef has just, for one reason or another, given up. Pop in for a pint - Sprotbrough Flash is beautiful - but dear god, swerve the food at all costs.

We did the motor home stopover - we rang the day before and the staff were really helpful. Once there the staff were friendly and cheerful. Nothing was too much trouble and we could see exactly why it was busy. The surrounding area was fantastic as we had the dogs with us and they enjoyed both the pub and the walks - we will definitely come back when we’re travelling between the north and the south . Thank you for a great visit
