Very disappointing evening at The Boat House in Tewkesbury. My wife booked a table for 4 of us to eat on a Saturday evening. When we arrived, we were greeted with a sign blocking the entrance to the steps leading to the restaurant, which read, private party please go to the rear. We were expecting to go up to the restaurant at the rear of the property. My wife informed a waiter that we had a table booked for 4, and he replied that we could have any empty table on the patio area as there was a private party upstairs. I asked my wife if she was given this information when she telephoned earlier that day and my wife replied "No". The waiter said sorry and walked away quickly. I asked the waitress if it was new management at the pub and she replied that the waiter who had spoken with us was the manager. We were disappointed that we were not given this information when we booked and did not plan on eating a meal outside later in the evening on a cold patio area. We did not stay and eat a meal because we were worried the food would be as bad as service we had received immediately when we arrived at the restaurant. I cannot give feedback for food as we left the restaurant.

Really disappointing Sunday dinner, tiny portion of beef, soft dry and chewy roast potatoes too long under heat lamp and not fresh tasting, overcooked cauliflower cheese with more sauce than anything. Veg was ok. Yorkshire was stodgy and thick at the bottom. Salt and pepper in sachets and had to ask. Won’t be going back unfortunately. Service was ok and staff friendly.

Just had the most fabulous fish and chips at the Boathouse Tewkesbury. Warm welcome, cool atmosphere and a real pleasure. There were 10 years of a fabulous Boathouse, then 18 months of ‘What happened there?’ Now, Dawson is back at the helm and this place will take off again; I’m sure. Good luck guys; you deserve it.

We attended The Boat House in Tewkesbury as a lunch party for our first family reunion since before the first lockdown in 2020. Altogether there was 12 of us. We ordered our food and drinks and enjoyed the lovely location on the river on a beautifully sunny day. We all ordered, including myself (pregnant) as well as 3 children and the remaining adults. An hour and 20 minutes later, we had not received our food. My brother went into the venue to ask and the response from staff was ‘we don’t know when it will be ready. You’re a priority though’ and they walked away. This was unacceptable. I understand places get busy, especially when they have a great outdoor space on a warm day but at least 4 other tables came after us, ate, paid and left and we were not even given the courtesy of an apology. We then decided not to stay as we did not know when our food would be arriving. We asked for the bill and the staff were very blasé with us and again did not offer an apology. I think this is appalling and unacceptable. Very disappointing and would not recommend.

I’ve visited twice in the past two weeks the first time was for drinks and food with friends who were passing by, my friend and her partner both had lipstick marks on their glasses- not nice especially with Covid going around.....I decided to give it another chance on a hot sunny day as it’s in a great spot ...feeling hopeful we ventured down, we arrived and ordered some drinks and asked for the food menu, managed to order some drinks, they arrived but we were not given any menus, my Prosecco was flat, eventually I got given a new one but again not much bubbles and relatively flat, I’d asked for a menu when I was up sorting the my drink out and when the second drink arrived no food order was taken - eventually I went up to pay as we were fed up - we had waited over an hour, I don’t mind if a place is busy and they let you know service is going to be slow but this service was just awful, just badly organised, no one asked how we were or if we needed anything, they didn’t even know the table numbers and the waitresses were going up to tables with wrong orders. Just complete chaos, being an ex air hostess and VIP air hostess I found this service below par, also cigarettes on the floor. Just needs a bit of love put into it and a bit of management! I worked in a bar once and we had to make sure the patio was immaculate before guests, they sent even bothered in this place.....don’t recommend and I won’t be going back!

I had the salmon which was very nice, partner had fish and chips which was a massive portion and the fish was very good. We didnt need to wait too long and the serving staff were nice. But after sitting at a table for half an hour and have waitresses walk past numerous times and totally ignore us and serve others we got up and left. I came here as I saw online that they are known for their cocktails. I was therefore very disappointed when I arrived and they said they are no longer serving a cocktail menu. The bartender did make me a Japanese iced tea but I wasn’t very impressed; it was weak and just tasted of lemonade. I had a chicken starter which was very under seasoned and tasted plain; hubby had the olives and bread, which he enjoyed. On the plus side, the riverside views were lovely as was the warmth from the fireplace.

I arranged to meet my brother and his partner at the Boathouse as a family occasion with my mother and son. The location is 80 miles for each of us to reach but is a half way point between Staffordshire and Somerset. We have met there twice previously and had a pleasant time. I booked a table for us a week in advance. When we arrived, we noticed most of the furniture in the restaurant appeared to be spread out outside. I went inside to ask for our table but was told we needed to sit outside. I explained that I wasn't told this when I booked and my mother wasn't able to sit outside as she is almost 80 and it was actually a very chilly day. I was told to mention it downstairs as they may help.I did as requested but was told eating inside wasn't possible. No apology or explanation was offered and the staff seemed totally unconcerned at our dilemma. Fortunately we managed to find somewhere which appeared to be managing to meet government guidelines re Covid 19 without making their clients sit shivering outside!

We booked a table for a family meal but when we turned up we were told that we had to eat outdoors because of coronavirus restrictions. We were not told that we would have to eat outdoors at the time of booking. It was a cold day and windy and I did not want my elderly mother catching a chill outdoors. I have had many indoor meals in restaurants since they reopened in July and I don't understand why this very spacious restaurant did not allow us inside. Fortunately, a restaurant in the town with a more measured response to the pandemic was happy to take our booking and allowed us to eat indoors.

The ambience and the staff were great. We sat at a table outside where we could see the boats and listen to the water. The food was salty and was not as expected. I had oven roasted chicken (starter) & chilli, battered haddock & chips. My companion had minted lamb koftas with toasted pitta (starter) and oven roasted lamb rump. The starters were lovely even though the toasted pitta was a bit greasy but the mains were very salty. We decided not to risk dessert. (Weds 12/08/2020)

We cannot comment on the food as we didn’t stay to eat. We booked a table over the telephone for dinner that evening on the outside terrace.Arrived to find the place overrun. The outside terrace consisted of picnic tables filled with people shouting at each other.Social distancing was not mentioned anywhere and certainly the customers were not social distancing being crammed onto the picnic benches. We approached a member of staff and asked about our booked table. We were told that they had ‘lost control’ and that ‘people just kept walking in’. They said that ‘upstairs’ had not told them about any bookings and there were no tables. We had travelled 30mins to sit by a river in the pleasant environment their website indicated, to be greeted with unsafe chaos and no table. In these times it is particularly concerning and I would approach with caution until the staff regain some control over their customers.

I was a little concerned that I wouldn’t have room for anything else! When ordering my main course, I had asked for the dessert menu. The staff remembered that I had, some months ago, asked for a cheese board at the beginning of our meal, so that the cheese would be room temperature & not cold from the fridge. we stayed in Tweksbury pre christmas and decided to try this pub because of the great reviews. We were so disappointed and a little stunned at how awful it seemed.I had booked a table a week before. On arrival there were only two tables occupied. A girls was serving a customer at the bar and a young guy was behind the bar sorting things out. Both ignored us and didn't even make eye contact. Eventually the guy looked at us and I told him I had a reservation for 4. He acknowledged that fact but didn't say or do anything else. I asked if there was anywhere in particular we had our table reserved and he then said he would take us to our table. Before we ordered drinks we asked for a bottle of sparkling mineral water and he told us they didn't have any bottles left. We seemed really surprised a pub would have no sparkling water and then he said he thought there might be 1 left.As he left, we felt very comfortable. The pub was 'dead' , it was not welcoming and we began to have doubts about the quality of service and food. We decided to leave. On our way out we bumped into the young barman and told him we had changed our minds. He just shrugged his shoulders! He didn't ask us why, or persuade us to stay. Zero customer service or awareness. We left feeling relieved that we had avoided a disaster. We will never return t the pub if in the area again and will advise anyone who asks to give it a wide berth. I'm still shocked at how awful our experience was compared to the good reviews we relied on.

We took two friends for a meal in Tewkesbury, our last night before they left. We decided to try this place as somewhere different. When we walked in it was almost empty but decided to still give it a try. However the night was ruined by an unprotected candle burning on the window sill. I was looking out of the window to see if flood water was getting higher, only have my coat (which was new) caught by the flame and it melted as well as burning my finger. I told the waitress who just opologised which I was taken back. The candle was a little one but should have been in a jar or some other protecting container. Not a naked flame which could have been extremely dangerous. Unfortunately my coat is ruined. Not a happy customer.

I’m not sure what’s happened to the Boat House which has been a regular eatery for my friends and I. We met for a light lunch recently and were so disappointed with our food. We all chose food from the ‘specials’ board but there was nothing special about it. The linguini was rubbery and too salty. The steak sandwiches were tough poor quality beef presented on plastic inedible buns. The leek & potato was acceptable but nothing special. More like a tin from the supermarket. The service was not up to the normal standard either, making us feel more like an inconvenience than lunch guests. We have previously enjoyed dining here but something has definitely changed.........

From the outside it is a scruffy dump....fag ends, broken glass, rusty metal....not worthy of a really nice setting. A little TLC and this would be a go to location. The welcome was friendly and the food good. Fish and chips and the burger were more than adequate. The decor inside is good, the toilets need work. This is the first time I have ever found Trip Advisor reviews to be inaccurate! Looking for somewhere to stop for a late Sunday lunch on our way home we found the Boathouse on Trip Advisor and the location and the reviews suggested this place would be ideal, however we were very disappointed. The place is run down and tired and the staff really were not interested. Food was at best adequate and location pleasant but could be so much better. Bitter was “off” as was roast chicken and roast pork but the vegetables literally being thrown down without eye contact or any words left us feeling unwelcome and very unlikely to return. Sorry but really don’t know how some people found this place to be as good as described on a Trip Advisor.

Had an amazing roast dinner this Sunday, the gravy is the best I’ve ever tasted, staff were friendly and professional, next time I’m in Tewkesbury I’ll definitely be in for another meal

Rocked up and the place doesn't look that inviting rather grubby and run down, the surrounding area is lovely with the boats and the river. Due to a hungry children and time getting on we ventured inside. (probably wouldn't have done if time was on our side)inside isn't to bad but the staff don't seem to have a clue what is going on. We sat at a table with 3 grubby menus printed on a4 paper and decided what we wanted, got fed up of waiting for someone to take our order so ventured to the bar to place the order. As we sat waiting (a rather long time)for our meal to arrive I spotted what I think is the owner having a jolly up with his mates outside and leaving the staff what he must have got from the local youth club to run the show. The food finally arrived but atlas the order was wrong and the one that was right had a lovely short curly hair on it. We brought it to the waitresses attention who didn't seem to bothered not sure she even apologies just took the plates away. She came back 5 minutes later with the correct order and placed it on the table and walked of without as much as can I get your anything else ie sauces/drinks. By this time I'm was fed up so just ate what was in front of me which was rather poor in quality and taste. I went to the bar and settled up the bill the staff couldn't even be bothered to ask how it was. Probably because they knew the answer to it. Would never go back the place is tired and the service is poor. Maybe the owner should invest a bit more time in it and set an example to his staff instead of boozing in the garden.

The food was quite nice and the fish tasted fresh, batter was good. My friend enjoyed her calamari. I'd give the food 7/10.

We've always had great meals & service at The Boat House and last night was no exception. The food was gorgeous & the choice for veggies & meaties was ample. Staff were friendly, helpful & accommodating. Background pianist was a nice touch too!

it still needs some money put into pub like the front steps But the main thing is that prices are good and the food was great and my wife wants to go back there which to me says it all

I came to the boathouse for my 31st birthday with my family. We have always loved it and on this occasion, it still lived up to its high standards!

The website looked great but on arrival the restaurant was tired and sad looking and felt a little grimey, food wasn’t that good either. Felafal burger tasteless, chips not bad though. Roast beef was just ok. Best thing was looking out towards the river.

Food was no better than can be cooked at home, the burgers were bland and dry served on cheap nasty buns. Even cooking the chips correctly appears to be a struggle! Old, uncomfortable chairs and tables of all different sizes and heights (even when pre-booking for a group of 6 our tables where all over the place). Decoration in the toilets is abysmal, as is the cleanliness. Restaurant area is slightly better, but again isn't anything special. Definately wouldn't recommend and certainly won't be visiting again.

Was last here 6 years ago with a friend & found it so tacky but was willing to give it another try but sadly its absolutely awful ...Health & safety would have a field day ! The steps are so steep and rusty leading up to the establishment and the patio area so untidy and the main area at the top of the steps is due to collapse! Inside is dire & toilets awful,my friends cider was flat and was absolutely shocked looking at the food menu prices...The position is fabulous & could be a goldmine in the right hands also did not see any disabled access.. I won't be rushing back sadly.

Returning after 4 years got to say the place looks run-down from the outside. The Stairs leading up are rusty and breaking away. Got to say tho the food was spot on as per our 1st visit all fresh and enjoyable which is what matters. Decor inside still quirky but out side could do with spruce and the view from out side not great to the river high shrubs and tatty fencing..

Rigtig god service og skøn mad med hjemmelavet touch. Beliggenheden er hyggelig og har egen parkeringsplads. Vi kommer bestemt igen da der var flere retter på menuen vi gerne vil prøve.

This establishment is truly diabolical. I made the unfortunate decision to book a table for two for an important business meeting. During the 40 minute wait for our meal to arrive, my guest pointed out that there were dog faeces on the grubby carpet adjacent to our table. The overall decor is in dire need of cleaning and re decorating. The tiolets were absolute disgusting and the strong odour of urine was sickening. My booking was a 1:15 lunch slot. Alarm bells rang when I noticed the there were less than 8 customers present. There was only 1 waitress on duty who also doubled as the sole bar person. The main meal was palitable, however, the apple crumble deserts were stewed apple in cinnamon. There was no crumble present at all. The carpark is unkempt and more like a industrial estate than a eatery. Very dreary. The boathouse website is very very misleading and needs taking down. This is without a doubt the worst place I have ever dined at. Trip advisor, your advert for this establishment is not acceptable due to the innacuracy or you advert. I suggest that you visit these places before you advertise them on your website.

We stopped off here on our way into Tewksbury to meet friends. The staff were very welcoming and we enjoyed our lunch. They allowed us to leave our car whilst we went into the town to find our way around as we had never been here before.

Me and my partner travelled from Cardiff for a funeral in Gloucester. We both wanted to see Tewkesbury again, so left early to get lunch there. The Boathouse, on the island has superb views over the wier pool. We watched the cormorants diving from our table. A modern pub, very clean, with toilets to match. Getting there at midday it was quiet, so the barman was taking and serving orders. Great guy, very attentive. I had herb and garlic mushrooms to start. Superb! My partner had the brushchetta, and cleared her plate. Main was my tiger prawn and crab linguini, again superb. My partner had fish and chips which she really enjoyed. Getting there early we took advantage of the fixed price meal deal, which reduced the cost from £34.45 to just £23.90, for both of us. Only one criticism. As I was driving I asked for a bottle of alcohol free beer. Sadly not available. So had a shandy instaid.

Booked in for a large family celebration. We had a section of the restaurant to ourselves which was perfect considering the amount of children in our party. All team were happy & helpful. Exceptional customer service, could not be Faulted! Special thanks to Jamie & George for all their help throughout the night with George kindly taking a Family picture for us before we left. Massive Thank you to the Kitchen team for cooking all 23 meals to perfection! All food arrived in a timely mannor, presented well and most importantly Hot and delicious. Highly recommended expessically for large parties. We did provide a Pre order due to us being such a large party, this made the process quick and stress free on the night. We all had a lovely evening and will definitely visit again!

Once again Gus has excelled himself, we tried the Scallop, Tiger Prawn Risotto, Ham Hock & Guinea Fowl starters, Halibut and Venison mains followed by Dard Chocolate Marquis and I had the Apple & Blackberry Crumble - this melts in your mouth! The plates were cleaned and the wine empty! The entire meal was absolutely fabulous. I cannot praise Gus and family more - we will be back!
