Christmas meal menu ! Probably too late for you to change your mind but my recent experience was that the "Christmas Meal @ £30/person" was the poorest value for money I have had in many years. The main course was served already plated with gravy poured over everything, the portion size was what you would expect from a childs menu. Atmosphere did not exist (not even tedious christmas songs), I've said enough, except to say I will never go back there for a "Christmas dinner"

My husband called in yesterday to book a table for today and he wanted to know if they served other food beside a Roast Dinner on a Sunday. . He was told yes and went ahead and booked for 4pm today. When we arrived, it was very quiet and we asked for the menu only to be told that only Roast Dinners were available and it was Beef , Pork or Turkey. We both ordered Roast Pork and Roast Beef. The dinners arrived already plated up and absolutely swimming in gravy. There was a shop bought Yorkshire Pudding sitting on top of my food completely full to the brim with gravy. So full that I was danger of wearing it if I tried to eat. I had to ask for a bowl so I could remove it. There was plenty of food and the carrots and cabbage were fresh but there wasn't any Roast Potatoes. I have photos but can't seem to share them from my phone to here. Two new potatoes and half of a potato baked in it's skin is not a roast. The Beef was dry and the" Roast Pork" was a huge pork chop with a large amount of flaccid unrendered fat on it. There was also a piece of fat that resembled crackling but it was also soft and floppy. Ordinarily I would have spoken to whoever was in charge of service but before I could a man called across from behind me to ask how the food was. As I had a mouthful of food I could only manage okay. He wasn't even polite enough to come to the table. All in all not the dining experience we had hoped for and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The beer and atmosphere are great, the organic shop is great, the fact they made us a Steak Sandwich after they stopped serving food is great….but the bl..dy coffee shop….. what a …. Enough said! Still can’t believe £6 for an egg Mayo sandwich, they must have slaughtered the hen to get the egg out!….. the beer makes up for some of it….but honestly… and only opens from Wednesday 11am…. No Sunday night Monday or Tuesday! It did taste nice! I suppose they want to keep riffraff like me out. Only 4people in there beside us, and one couple seemed to be friends of the owner.

The food was excellent with sandwiches, cakes, scones, fruit and crisps. It was beautifully presented. The girls all had mocktails and the staff were so attentive and helped my daughter have a lovely birthday afternoon. It was excellent for money. Thank you to all at the boars head!

Nice choice of meals available which included quite a few dishes suitable for vegans/ vegetarians which is great to see. All our meals were extremely nice, tasty and well presented…. Thank you to the chefs. The young lady who looked after our table was superb. All in all a lovely meal out. Would recommend a visit to The Boars Head

Decided to try this place after seeing a ‘promoted’ review on Facebook. Very average indeed, left feeling slightly hungry after eating a smallish portion of what was quite nice food to be fair. Overpriced for the type of place it was. Won’t bother returning, far nicer places locally that are better value for money.

We intended to visit Piglets Coffee Shop at The Boar's Head on Sep 3rd 2020 while my car was having work done in a nearby garage, having been there before and had found it excellent. My husband looked on their website to find it opened at 10am. We arrived just after 10am. There were 2 notices on the gate, one saying it opened at 10am and the other saying it opened at 11am. On the door, it said 'Pre- booking only' (we were still in partial Covid-19 lock down), but this hadn't been mentioned on the website. As I was trying to ring the number given, a member of staff came out of Piglets, and said they weren't opening until 1pm. I understand the difficulties in the present Covid-19 circumstances, but this kind of inefficiency and hideous and unnecessary confusion is inexcusable and no way to attract customers. We will not be going there again.

Piglets at the Boars Head deserves a page for itself. The whole place has been developing over the years and now they have a pretty successful mix over there. Today we went to Piglets for the Afternoon Tea and it was great. Phoned ahead as we had restrictions for one of the people with us, that was handled with no fuss. Staff were great, COVID handled well, and food was excellent. Afternoon Teas vary a lot, this was a good mix of sandwiches, fruit, scones and cakes and one of the better ones. Very generous and very good quality. Worth the money. Recommended.

Used to be a busy bustling little pub/restaurant and a real hit with the locals. Seems to have lost its way with food standards now just average. Not sure when the steak price managed to get to a meaty £19, when you only pay £24 for a far superior steak in Miller & Carter, seems a little overpriced for the surroundings, so opted for a lasagne which was ok but could have been a little better.

We have visited this pleasant pub for drinks before so assumed that with the large dining areas it would be great for Sunday Lunch. Perhaps it was just an off day but overall there were too many issues during our visit. There was no one meeting and greeting when we arrived at the same time as a large party. The bar didn't know who we were, despite booking by phone yesterday and eventually gave us a table in what looked like a waiting area opposite a toilet- clearly not in the main dining area. There were no menus or blackboards in view giving pricing or options. No one came to take orders so I went to the bar to order the drinks. the ale I chose was strangely half started from a standing jug before being finished from the pump. When a waitress arrived we found they were only apparently doing sunday lunches- no other options were available for my son who is 7 and the vegetarian options were a lasagne?? (sunday lunch fare) or veg without meat. We ordered. The food arrived promptly but when asking we were told there was no mustard or stuffing- we begged for a pot of horseradish sauce which was provided but then removed to be used by other customers. No salt or pepper on table. The meal consisted of plentiful meat but only one small roast potato and boiled potatoes. Carrots appeared to be out of a bag. My sons only option, a supposedly childs roast dinner was little smaller. Overall, all the staff seemed somewhat harassed and nervous. no one asked how our meal was even when I paid. the billing was wrong. All distinctly amateur and well below the standard I expected. With such large dining capacity we had assumed there would be a reasonable standard. But this was poor. We won't be back and there was little sense the pub was bothered. Staff just took our money with no interest in our experience.

First visited this place with my parents when I was a kid in the 70's. Lovely venu, looks run of the mill from outside and you could easily pass by. However, inside is a different story. An aclectic blend of old and unusual creates a relaxed environment with plenty of features to look at, such as a massive old bakelite radio and the Alice in Wonderlandesque animal print wallpaper. This is also a real ale pub and they are well stocked with an array of beers. Food is good, with an extensive menu for vegetarians and vegans and the landlord is a real character.... no a real character! Parking is behind the pub, well worth a visit if in the area.

We attended as a group of 8 and the food took over an 1.15 hrs to come. When the starters came, we wished they hadn't- mushrooms and prawns which were frozen and tasteless. No apology for the lack of availability of a main course ordered 45 minutes previously - terrible attitude of the owner named wayne who we subsequently understand has an appalling reputation for customer service. Main courses - cold curry which had to be sent back and inedible fish and chips - cheap and the kind of thing out of a cheap supermarket packet. Disappointing - don't waste your money. Only wished we'd noticed the 2 star food hygiene rating before we ordered - that would have been warning enough!

We weren't told over the phone when we booked that there was a set menu. We were rushed to give our order and within 10 minutes, our food was in front of us. As soon as we put our forks down, a waitress was over straight away to take the plates. Apart from this being Father's Day, my boyfriend and I also wanted an opportunity to spend quality time with his daughter. We thought the meal would last a reasonable time, which would give us the conversation time needed to relax and enjoy each other's company. Unfortunately, even though the food was good, the service was too pushy and everything was plated up, without having a choice of how much veg you wanted and they seemed in a rush to get us out of there. We have been going here for many years, but will be thinking of somewhere else in future. Very disappointed.

My friend and I booked Sunday lunch at the Boar's Head yesterday (03/06/18). We were seated promptly. There are no menus available and the waitress offered us Beef, Turkey or Chicken. No mention of starters - I generally have starters and no dessert, but as the weather was very warm, I thought just a main meal would do. The lunch arrived very quickly all plated up - no separate veg and no extra gravy. The meat was very nice, but the veg wasn't great. Anyway, we ate out meals and then a little blackboard with desserts was placed in front of us. We decided not to bother and to get the bill and another drink to sit in the beer garden (drinks are not served at the table). The bill came to over £37, which we paid and whilst sitting in the garden thought it was steep for just a main meal and two soft drinks each. So, I decided to go back in to ask the price of a Sunday lunch. I was told £14.95 for two courses. I explained that (a) nobody told us that and (b) we had only had one course. The reply was: 'people who don't want a dessert usually have one to take away'. Neither my friend or myself wanted to do this, so just left it at that. Personally, I think this was very poor (and a bit of a con) and we will never eat here again.

Went here for dinner with my partner, was a completely spontaneous find and were so glad that we stumbled upon it! Such a lovely quaint interior, we sat right in the window. Food was good. Starters a bit over priced for what they were but the mains made up for it. I had a special called Mediterranean risotto and it was gorgeous! We weren’t offered desert I’m not sure if they do them? The one main thing that let down our visit was how intimidated we felt by the locals. We walked in and all the people stood around the bar turned to look at us, making strange comments about us being “punters” to the bar staff. Then throughout the night they kept staring at us! I really didn’t want to go up to the bar at the end to pay. I know this isn’t the fault of the restaurant themselves but it did make us feel uncomfortable with the whole experience, such a shame because the food was great!

Could not fault the quality of the roast dinners we all received. Unfortunately it was assumed by staff that we all wanted a large dinner. It was only as the plates were being taken away that we were told we could have opted for a small dinner. What we did know (from previous visits) is that the price of the meal includes a dessert. I think this should be better advertised. Also, as with the previous review, I would love to see the option for starters. I aimed to celebrate my wife's birthday on a Sunday evening with a meal in what seemed to be an atmospheric pub. However, the food was disappointingly poor especially considering the relatively high price of both the meals and the beer. The bar lady poured half of my drink from a jug and topped the rest up from the tap, which made me feel a little uneasy as I can only assume that this was slops. However, the biggest issue was that despite spending over £60 at the pub up to that point we were told that they were closing at 9pm and along with a number of other parties, we had to leave. I could have handled this if there was a good reason for the early closure but they said that it's only worth keeping the pub open if there are sufficient punters. There was no apology as all were thrown out not long after 9pm. What an insult to the paying customer! Never will we go there again.

We discovered this pub just over a year ago and cannot fault it on all levels. My partner enjoys sampling all the real ales and you can't fault the good value food - both evening meals and Sunday lunch. We have experienced watching the 6 nations here and really enjoyed the half time food. The beer garden is lush in the summer and we went to the carols and crackling this Christmas which was a great night. The owners are really friendly and we're looking forward to many more visits in 2017.

Arriving after a decent bike ride around the Vale the welcome at the Boars Head did not disappoint. Window seat, fire burning, superbly kept cask ales, and a glowing atmosphere - cliches but very true! It was all there. No rush, no hassle, and very much idyllic. If you want to impress your friends this is the experience and quiet secret of Tylagarw.

I have been quite a few times and never disappointed! It is a beautifully decorated, quirky pub with a lovely homely feel. The food is delicious, there is a good selection of drinks and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. In the summer the beer garden is great, we have brought our husky to the beer garden and he loves it! Some pubs can be funny about large dogs even outside but they were welcoming and he got a lot of fuss from other customers! Highly recommend for food and drinks

Disorganised food not the best . Carvery counter squashed behind a door leaving no room behind counter to cut meat properly.

This is a charming old inn where good feed is assured. I was there for Sunday lunch, a wide choice of meats, perfectly cooked veg and friendly, efficient service. Oh, and the dessert was pretty amazing too!

Visited here one evening for my birthday and on another couple of occasions for lunch. This place has lovely victorian character style decor which feels nice and cosy. The food, in my experience, has been really really tasty and not over priced too. Fab! The only thing that could be perceived as negative from mt visits is, and this is mostly noticeable during the lunchtime; the staff and 'ole regulars' at the bar give off a slightly impervious aer of unfriendliness or unhappiness, not sure which (could be neither lol) but it reminds me of the films where you walk into a backwater pub in the middle of nowhere and everyone stops and looks at you type of thing - this funnily enough though sort of adds to the character of the place in its way. But in short, food great, so go there!

I'm generally a massive fan of the Boar. Terrific place for locals and 8 pumps which is unheard of in the area. Just a couple of recent worries though 1) beers are heavily dominated by Salopian and Glamorgan. Please more variety! Where are Tiny Rebel, Wild, Bristol Beer Factory etc? Real shame not to have anything interesting on bottle either. And Glamorgan really don't do anything decent. 2) Snacks - what's going on? Frequently nothing apart from pork scratchings!Nail those and the Boar will be great again.

My husband and I decided to eat here as we had had good reports. The pub has a friendly atmosphere and is obviously very popular as a drinking pub and indeed we have spent time here previously. We were seated promptly and enjoyed a shared crab cake starter, unfortunately that was were the good things ended. My husband ordered a ribeye steak, medium , that came well done with overlooked frozen chips and very hard over cooked onion rings. He asked for English mustard but none was available. My haddock was so hard and overlooked that it was difficult to cut, very dry and quite unpleasant. Service was curt and disappointing. There are so many very good establishments nearby that I am surprised that people eat here.

I have been here a few time and the food is delicious - which is the reason I keep coming back (I live miles away so it's not my local) The beer/lager is good and so are the other beverages. The food is AMAZING...everything I've tried, from curry to roast dinner has been excellent and I cannot fault it - I just wish the atmosphere was a bit friendlier/lighter but it is definitely a pub that has regular patrons, who possibly don't go there just for the food.I hate to be picky, the food is worth a visit.

My husband and I chose to have dinner at The Boar's Head after finding it on the internet while staying in Llantrissant. The pub initially looks like a traditional country inn. The bar boasts a very good selection of real ales which are well kept. The restaurant section is warm, cosy and atmospheric. The menu has a good selection of foods including some vegetarian options. The staff are friendly although a little disorganised. The pub was very busy but there was ample space in restaurant section. The food was good, tasty and good value for money. We would recommend The Boar's Head for eating and real ale drinkers.

Attended The Boar's Head in Pontyclun for some light refreshment after my partners University Graduation Ceremony. We were located in the back room and due to the size of our group we almost had the room to ourselves. There is plenty of space available with three dinning rooms and a spacious beer garden. • Wide selection of wine, beers and guest ales.• Warm and welcoming staff. • Great atmosphere. • Great food. • Great live bands and beer festivals.

Sunday roast delicious. We all had lamb and they were large portions. Waiting staff were very young and just 'left you to it' we were never asked if the food was OK and it was never mentioned that a dessert is included in the price

I've been here for so many times either for a quiet drink, a messy one or just for a meal and every time has been brilliant. It's got a small bar and can get busy but the bar staff make sure you are served quickly. There's always a great friendly atmosphere here.

Visited with my family. 14 week in toe. We had heard great things about this place but we were bitterly disappointed. We ordered the curry, gammon, haddock and chicken in leekes. Curry and gammon was okay no complaints. The fish was frozen? Pretty poor for a pub. The chicken was inedible, my wife was unable to eat it. There was a young lad behind the bar, I had to ask several times for condiments as he kept forgetting. When we finished he only cleared 2 plates as he forgot the others? We were all disappointed with the experience. Doubt we will return.

We just returned from a family birthday meal at the boars head . We went for family Sunday lunch . The dinner was stunning . They even did us 3 gluten free dinners . The disappointing part was we were not told the dinner came with dessert . 5 of us didn't have dessert , when we payed we payed the same as everyone who had dessert . They did not charge us any less for not having dessert . This was not explained to us when we ordered . NOT EVERYONE WANTS A DESSERT . .. This should be explained when ordering , then we would have ate a little less dinner .

I used to love this restaurant years ago, so persuaded my husband whilst visiting Pontypridd after living away for many years to have lunch here. An absolute disaster!! The Manager looked stressed and didn’t know where to sit us (or the couple in front of us) and eventually we were shown to the area upstairs. A number of people arrived after us, we chose to sit at one of the tables laid with a nice white tablecloth. Eventually the waitress arrived -but moved us to a bare table explaining that the table we were at was for “afternoon tea” only! We were finally asked for our order after other people had given theirs. The couple in front of us having almost the same non-existent service-then walked out. We gave our order for our first and main course together with a request for wine to accompany it. After half an hour the waitress having served other tables then finally brought our two glasses of water …and gave them to the next table! We asked if we could at least have our previously ordered glasses of wine whilst waiting…. Still Nothing arrived! We then reluctantly decided to follow our fellow diners example and leave which is what we did. Such a disappointment! We will never go there again!

This popped up so I posted a review about my feelings on the place which are valid but out of date. I used to really like your place so hope it is open again soon and back to how it was at the start.

As we were staying at the Premier Inn next door, we eat at The Longbow. This was the third night we eat there and was served by Lara. She was the only waitress that took our order and continued to make sure we were happy with the food by checking every so often. Many thanks Lara.
