I was waiting at the bar for about an hour one of the staff (women with blonde hair) came out to the bar didn’t even ask me if I wanted another drink (which I did) and she was on the phone stuffing her face with a sandwich and I said excuse me nicely even though I wasn’t happy and she looked at me and I got ignored which I think is so rude plus since I walked in apart from the women being on the phone and getting my first drink I haven’t seen anyone at the bar for over an hour

Manger said we would be kicked out if we didn’t order more drinks, we have been here since 2 o clock and have ordered over £100 worth of drinks, ruined our football experience

Bernie & the team were great, friendly and attentive. The 2 course meal he put together was great. Great plate of tender roast lamb, fresh vegetables, proper homemade roast potatoes & yorkie pud. Great selection of draught beers, fair bar prices. Yes the toilets need a little tlc in time, but love the pub it's character & atmosphere - something for everyone sports, live music, good ale a real hub spot. Up the Hammers ⚒⚒⚒

Excellent place to see live rock music in Braintree on Friday and Saturday's. Check their website for details who is on! There was a really great band new band (to me) called 'Beautiful Dangerous' that played this evening. They had a great vary of rock songs and female singer with a fantastic voice. Would recommend both band and venue. Drink prices normal for Braintree.

My wife and I have been here five times so far for our Sunday Roast. 10 out of 10 every time. Hot plates. Great Roast and plenty of it. Well worth a visit. Best to book. Real Ale, and at least one guest ale. The bar menu has everything from sandwiches to meals, and all reasonably priced. Parking is limited, but there is a multi story car park 50 yards away. (Cheap on Sunday) Were going again!

I start off by saying this pub is so quaint and rustic and has a brilliant atmosphere which dates back to around the 16th century. It is full of character with beams on the ceiling and an open fire also. First impressions? Excellent. The layout inside is fairly small and I guess it can get noisy if it is busy. Although it is small, there is still enough space to walk around and not really have anyone listen to your conversation. There is a car park outside and again I can imagine this would get full at the height of summer. We did find the spaces were a bit narrow (our car is a Mondeo 2010) but they are not the only pub which has narrow spaces. This doesn’t detract from anything. It is purely an observation. I took my fiancee and 7 year old boy there for dinner on a Saturday evening at around 1730 and I did book (advisable as can get busy) and we had a table by the window and right next to the open fire (shame it wasn’t on) but you can’t have everything. We sat down and within a couple of minutes we were asked if we would like any drinks and not long after that, we were asked if we were ready to order which we were. The service we received throughout the entire meal was excellent and our waitress was called JAYNE. She was friendly, warm and smiled all the time and nothing was too much trouble. The food was also excellent. All 3 of us are vegetarians so it can be a little bit tricky sometimes to find decent food because normally any dish would have mushrooms in and none of us are fans of these disgusting fungi!!!!!!! My son had the Pip’s Pasta, I had the veggie burger and my fiancee has the veggie fish and chips. The food was very tasty with the exception of the coleslaw type sauerkraut type thing on the side of my plate. I ate it but I couldn’t’t tell you what was in it or even what it tasted like. That was the only down side. Dessert was also delicious and we had the cookie with ice cream. It was sweet, oh so sweet and filling but great nonetheless. So overall, this pub is delightful and we will go back again. It is pretty good value for money, the food is good as is the service, so really what isn’t there to like. If you are near Brentwood, the A128 or A127 then stop here for a bite to eat, I am sure you will not regret it.

Visited The Boars Head with a couple of friends as we were just having a catch up over a few drinks, it was a Monday early evening so it wasn't the busiest time of the week. Staff were very welcoming and we were greeted by a polite member of staff called Amy, had a great chat and even though it was my first time in the pub, she made us feel welcome and treated us like the regulars, same could be said for a girl by the name of Holly who took over Amy's shift, both very welcoming. After a few drinks we got a bit peckish and asked if they were serving food and were told they had finished food service but then asked what we would like to which we replied "just burgers and chips" without hesitation they said said they would do it for us which was great and very appreciated. Food came out and was descent, well presented and better then a lot of fayre in town. Spoke with the landlord Stuart who was a pleasant man to talk to and also Bearnie who was polite. All the staff were happy to talk to us about different events they hold and what they want to achieve as a pub. All in all we had a good night, with good drink, nice food and very accommodating staff who were happy to serve us. Thanks and will be back

Visited on a Saturday afternoon for lunch with a friend. Food is freshly cooked - no sign of any frozen microwaved meals! Portion sizes are large but very tasty and very reasonably priced. Would certainly advise giving it a try!

We recently visited this pub for the first time and we will certainly return. The staff were attentive and courteous. Every effort was made to ensure that our early evening dinner experience was a good one. The food was of a good standard and care was taken with the presentation. Even though it was pouring with rain, this did not interefere with the relaxing early evening ambience of the place. The toilets there were rather cramped - not sure what could be done about that - but we felt that a spring clean would not go amiss.

Friendly pub, friendly staff. Really good live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night! Toilets could do with updating but are clean at least. It's not the end of the world! All in all I would definitely say it's the best pub in Braintree! 😊

I regularly visit the Boars Head to listen to the live bands they have at Weekend evenings. The bands are always good and bar staff are friendly. It can get very busy but the door staff are proactive and ensure there are no troubles. On a previous visit I witnessed the door staff handle a medical incident and was really impressed at how they handled the situation, whilst I don't know quite what had happened, I suspect they made a big difference. A big well done.

Eaten here twice in the last few weeks and have to say the food is excellent and good value. A friendly and welcoming pub at the Fountain End of the High Street. In our opinion best pub in the town. They also have live music every weekend.

Met some old work colleagues here for lunch. Hadn't been in the Boars Head for about 40 years so wasn't sure what to expect. Although developed at the rear the front bar was reassuringly familiar. Good to see that a lot of the old characteristics have been retained. For a Friday lunchtime it was fairly quiet so service was swift. Pleasant but unspectacular food, washed down with a decent pint of beer. Smallish carpark but fortunately the George Yard multistorey pay & display is just across the road. Will most probably give it another try.

The Boars head is an excellent choice for a night out in Braintree. If you like live music then this is the place for you. There are live bands on every Friday and Saturday and a host of events during the week. This includes A jam night and Bernie's Karaoke. The staff are very friendly and efficient. At weekends there is Security on the door and they do a fantastic job.You feel well looked after, which these days is a great feeling.WELL WORTH A NIGHT OUT. Well done Bernie and Stuart.

Stranger to town, wandering round for a pub, first pub with a bit of life was the boars head. Even though it was evening they accepted us, me and my wife along with my two boys aged 3 and 7 months. Friendly, old style pub. Good beer and well priced.

Great combination and the pizza was home made, a bit too much for me to eat so I took it home. This pub is trying really hard to improve the fountain end of the high street, so come and visit.

Stopped for a quick drink after work and ended up having cocktails and dinner! Following a cider it didn't take much for us to try the new cocktails, Pina Colada and a Cosmopolitan. Lovely and refreshing. We then decided to eat and chose from the new spring/summer menu. We had the 2 for £10 chilli con carne and couldn't have chosen better. All home made and included nachos and sour cream. It didn't take much for us to be persuaded to try the Eton Mess Sundae for dessert. Again included home made meringue. Compliments to the chef. Overall great value for money in a friendly pub. Will certainly be back.

As a fairly new incomes to the Braintree area I was looking for a good venue for local bands and I was recommended the Boar's Head so I went to have a look and was not disappointed! The new landlord is looking to make the BH a centre for local live music and after talking to his knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff (Bernie and Babs) I am looking forward to many more trips to this venueThe pub is large enough to cater for bands and also does a range of real ales - There is an extensive schedule of live acts to please most tastes and a jam/open mike session on the last Wednesday of every month - All in all a good find

Stopped to have a drink in what is supposed to be the oldest pub in Braintree. Seemed more like a mans pub, not cosy and had a grubby feel to the place. Only place to sit was at the bar which was very untidy and where the owner was sitting eating his dinner watching TV

This place used to be a great pub back in the day but really has hit the skids now. Went in the resently and was appalled at the state of the toilets, no seats and no locking doors. Terribly Kareoke also. What a shame , Braintree really needs som better places to drink as it seems virtually everywhere in town is going down hill

We decided to try this tea room for the first time after being given an afternoon tea for 2 gift card as a birthday treat. I have to say we were more than happy with the whole experience. It was welcoming, the staff were brilliant and the surroundings were very clean. We had 2 lovely sandwiches with a salad garnish. The salad leaves were so fresh, brilliant. Followed by 2 very good fruit scones, jam and clotted cream and more little cakes on the top tier of the cake stand . Tea and coffee was also included. Thank you.

Walked in... waited for around 4 mins. Someone was scrubbing something out back. Had a table of people sat in the corner vaping. So walked out.

On 28th August I went to The Railway pub in Witham with some friends, there 7 of us. We were looked after by the staff there. We all had lunch, the meals were excellent & reasonably priced too. We all thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at this lovely old pub. We hope to return there again in the future!

I went in to purchase a cheese & tomato toastie. I observed a staff member using the same tongs and same chopping board for a bacon roll and cheese toastie. Therefore I walked right out and won't be returning. This is really basic food hygiene knowledge. Hate to think what other hygiene rules they don't follow.
