The Blue Marlin in East Northamptonshire

How can anyone on here say this is a bad chippy? Honestly, sometimes Trip Advisor reviews really miss the mark. This place serves AMAZING fish 'n' chips. The batter is crispy and the chips are incredible. And I say this as a Northerner, so clearly a fish n chip aficionado. If you visit Oundle, get fish 'n' chips from here, you will NOT be disappointed.

I have patronised this outlet for several years. It is first rate. Superb fish and superb chips. Best I have had. The staff are efficient, polite and helpful. Any negative reviews are in my opinion more likely to be a reflection on the customer than any shortcoming on the staff. I shall continue to come here for my excellent fish ‘n chips😊

The Blue Marlin, Oundle, Northamptonshire, My partner Karen and I went here today 20.04.2024 we both had a portion of chips, The shop was clean and tidy and we were served very quickly, They are the best chips I have had for ages and I will go back

We have had haddock and chips takeaway for the last 5 years. Always excellent. Takes a while as cooked fresh. Also friendly service. Superb.

The best fish and chips we have had for ages. This is the first time we have been to the Blue Marlin but what a find.. The staff were friendly and we got served very quickly and all was freshly cooked. The fish was really hot, good and tasty and a decent size. It did not all fall apart like at other shops. Lovely crisp batter and again not over battered .The chips were nice and crisp and lovely potatoes. We would highly recommend and will certainly be back.

My partner has a mooring from today so we visited for the first time today. The lady was adorable & so so friendly. We hope you little one have a lovely birthday and we will see you real soon xxx

A small fish and chip shop with a great selection of fish, cooked to perfection. And the chips were great too. All wrapped in traditional clean paper.

Have been consistently excellent for a long time now. I’m presuming the earlier, poor reviews were before the current owners took over. Potion size and speed of device all excellent and well-priced.

I have now had absolutely excellent fish and chips at this outlet on at least 5 occasions over the last year. Excellent food with well cooked chips and first class cod. It is clean and the service is good. The staff are always happy and courteous. They go out of their way to help. It is a takeaway so no seats.

Always busy, freshly cooked and hot. The owners are so friendly and make for a pleasant and safe visit. Undoubtedly the best fish and chips in the area. The line caught haddock is tremendous. I would recommend and off to get some now!

Haddock and chips were spectacular as ever! Crispy batter and a huge portion. Never disappointed at The Blue Marlin. Highly recommended.

As locals we order from here regularly and it is reliably excellent, particularly the haddock and portion sizes are generous.

I am a local and use this chip shop at least one per week. There is nearly always a long queue backing down the street on a Friday evening. I have noticed some poor reviews back in 2019 and would like to say that this was before the current people took over. The fish is fried on request I am also aware that people travel in from local villages to get their fish and chips from The Blue Marlin. The food is well worth waiting for!!

Always great cod and chips, we have a fish supper from the blue marlin twice a month at least. A reliable comfort meal 🙂

My husband I live near Huntingdon, but, we still drive all the way to Oundle to The Blue Merlin if we fancy a treat of Fish & Chips. As far as we are concerned they are the best.

As a customer who’s used the chippy a few times recently and has visited some great chip shops and really bad ones. The Blue Marlin has been consistently really good. One of the reviewers clearly has some weird axe to grind, as they’ve reviewed the place 3 times. If it’s that bad why keep returning. Haddock has always tasted great, chips generally pretty good and the price is fair for the area. It always seems to be busy most evenings, so they must be doing something right. It’s a traditional chippy and importantly the fish, chips and batter have not disappointed me recently. Staff are also very friendly. Ignore the negative reviews, they are not shared by other customers experiences.

Had fish and chips tonight. Our first from the Blue Marlin in months. We really enjoyed it and the fish was excellent. We are glad we tried it again. I can recommend.

It is the only chippy in the local area unless you take advantage of the fact that a lot of pubs are offering take out fish and chips. Compared to pubs the cost of F&C is much lower but so is the quality. The Blue Marlin is a traditional F&C shop but it needs to improve to enable it to compete with the changing social climate.

We are locals. Please ignore the negative comments on here they are not accurate.This is a great chippy, well priced with great service. The line caught haddock is really really lovely.There are always queues out of the door...so please try this restaurant for yourself. Its a fair drive for us and well worth it.To the hardworking owners thank you for looking after us through lockdown

Always a delicious piping hot take away. On offer is a good size menu. We prefer the line caught Haddock, priced according to size. Since the super friendly current managers returned, the food has been outstanding and the customer service is second to none. The shop is always busy which is a testament to the quality you can expect.

Got to be the last time, like another reviewer I gave it a second chance. King Rib and Curry sauce with Large Chips £12.60. All the batter came off the Rib, the Rib itself was way too thin. Some of the chips were under cooked. That’s it, the people of Oundle deserve better. Owners are nice people but you still have too cook properly. So I guess pays my money takes my choice. Back to Eye for the best Chippy in the area.

We were visiting Oundle and just wanted a quick meal. The veggie spring roll was fresh and delicious and the huge portion of chips were perfectly cooked, not a bit greasy and the shop was spotless with pleasant service. I’d be pleased to have this place nearby.

How can a chip shop be this bad? My second review as we decided to give the place a second go. Hard fishcake (really!! how can you get such a simple thing wrong) Soggy greasy chips and a tasteless cod roe. Discusting!! Sell your business and move on so we can all start eating good fish and chips again. Get yourself a paper round instead.

Visited last week as daughter likes the Curry Sauce. The owners away, Chips only half of normal portion, KingRib is self was somehow burnt but the batter inside not cooked. I refuse to use this Chippy again. Oundle deserves much much better.

I agree with other comments on here. In recent months we have purchased from here on 4 occassions hoping the food would get better. WRONG, it has been consistantly poor. The fish on our last visit was dry and over cooked and a very dry and hard fish cake to go with it with awful dry chips. The chip shop was one the best by miles but now ranks right there at the bottom of the pile. Discusting!!

Fish and chips used to be awesome but now it's just grease and yesterday's fried up stuff. Very sad. Would never go back.

The cod was delicious. The chips were disappointingly bland even with salt and vinegar. The chips were chewy (not crispy) and flavorless, lacking that tangy, sour 'bite' of malt vinegar that I love, even though I watched him apply liberal amounts of it.

Reheated fish and chips, not fresh and very poor quality. Chips were stale, soggy and just plain rubbish.Fish poor and mainly batter. Would NEVER eat here again.

As a regular user over many years I can honestly say that we have never been disappointed with what is on offer.

Living in Oundle this is always a bone of contention on whether to use this chippy. I myself would drive to Eye in Peterborough because it’s food is cooked in deef dripping. It serves a purpose.....but that’s it. Kids are happy enough eating from there.

Excellent Excellent Excellent We are staying locally visiting a relative and decided to have a chippy tea and stay in Excellent freshly cooked cod and chips 🍟 Best meal this week and we have paid serious money to eat out!

We had the Cod on two visits it’s nice and thick almost meaty cooked well to retain moisture and fresh flavor the batter is crispy and not greasy, chips were good but great on the second visit fresher I think and crispy
