What a fabulous pub! I wish it was our local! The food is absolutely fantastic, there's some great cask ales and wines and the service is great too. There's a choice of smaller plates or slightly larger ones. Everything we had was just delicious. I would recommend anyone in the vicinity to try it. We met up with family and had a walk afterwards. It's not an all-day service though, so check dining times and book beforehand.

What a gem of a fabulous village pub restaurant. Friendly welcome, excellent delicious food, great value for money and their own brewed beer. What’s not to like, it was perfect for our after walk lunch. One to note there are several EV charging points in the car park!

We were really looking forward to eating here again, as we had a great meal there last year. It is a treat to go there as it is very expensive compared to other pubs nearby. Unfortunately, we were disappointed this time. Two of our party of four are vegetarians, so imagine our disappointment when the only vegetarian main was already finished by the time we arrived, 7.30! How is that possible? I don't think that is acceptable. There was no apology either, so they just had to have starters and a plate of vegetables. Not good enough for a place that obviously prides itself on its fine dining. I doubt we will go there again.

My Wife and I enjoyed a couple of midweek nights in one of the external converted out houses (Old Piggeries) The room was warm well furnished but as a recent build needed a bit of refining ie bathroom door latch has a razor sharp edge causing a cut to my arm. External steps to garden and road are dangerously high for old codgers like us. The TV has access to hundreds of cheap internet streamed dross but no home grown mainstream BBC, ITV & UK content. I could not find any radio, local or national included in the TV menu . The food is very good with lots of well thought out ideas . Service is fine with everyone trying hard to please. All in all we would love to return when the H & S work has been done and the TV less international. I sincerely hope these comments help to make a good venue even better. Thanks to all for a pleasant two days.

I was in the Peak District on a walking break and booked an evening meal on the recommendation of a friend. I visited early in the evening on a Wednesday. The building has been tastefully refurbished while retaining the character of the original. I was pleased to see they had draught beer on tap and offered a 'flight' of beer, enabling you to sample all three. I was seated upstairs. The service throughout was exemplary—just the right balance of friendliness and professional courtesy. The food was outstanding, and all my courses were excellent. I even had the unexpected pleasure of chatting with the chef, who overheard a question of mine to the staff. I will certainly return next time I'm in the Peaks. Highly recommended.

Well worth a trip off the beaten path, this lovely gastro pub, sat near the window with views over the lambs in the next field, great service, and the food… well it was all delicious. I can highly commend the whipped feta cheese starter. It looked so pretty and tasted amazing, a brilliant fusion of flavours. I had the beef bavette for my main with additional green beans. The beans tasted as if they had just been picked and were perfectly cooked, the triple cooked chips are the best I have tasted and the beef melted in my mouth. The baked cheesecake with strawberries finished the meal off perfectly but I did envy my husband’s chocolate mousse because that was amazing. Husband had the pork and said it was great, sister had the grouse the carrot cake with cheese which she pronounced delicious He enjoyed the local ale available and I liked the wine ( a lot) We will definitely come here again

We were at the Blind Bull on a very wet August lunchtime but still the views from the windows were lovely and it is a very relaxing and welcoming ambience to meet with friends. Wine by the carafe was good quality and reasonably priced. The food needs a little improvement in my view. I had the pork chop and chips. The chips were excellent - best I have had in a long time. But the pork chop had not been trimmed and had slightly more fat on it. It would have benefited from slightly more cooking particular as it was fatty. Coffee was good quality

Exceptional from start to finish, thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the staff were attentive and polite. The food was delicious and extremely well presented. We sat downstairs as we had a dog with us and the seating area was bright and airy. Will certainly be recommending The Blind Bull to our friends and family should they visit the area and if we come back on a trip in the future we will definitely be visiting again! 5 Stars! Thank you. (Be sure to pre-book a table to avoid disappointment!)

The location is fabulous. We stayed in the piggery and the room was lovely! The food however is extortionately priced for what you get! Breakfast portion was so small we went to another place to eat afterwards! They had run out of mushrooms, no brown sauce or red sauce but for the price we paid they should have been there! I would stay again for the room but not the food!!

Fantastic food - cannot do it justice on this review. We used to eat here weekly 20 plus years ago and tonight we finally returned after anticipating a visit since the present team opened four years ago! The food was so sublime- I am the most picky person ever- and also own a pub, a bistro, a cafe and ice cream parlour so take a bit of pleasing- but oh my goodness the food here is what the entire Peak District and greater Sheffield area has been waiting for! Don’t get me wrong the renovation is well thought out and interior design beautifully managed, the team are very professional but the food is what you need to really come for- it’s to die for.

Dinner The Blind Bull for a chef collaboration with Chef Thom Bateman . This gastropub has been on our list for quite a while to visit. When we heard Thom was going to be a guest chef,it was the excuse we needed to go. That is not taking away from their own talented Chef Luke Hawkins. Who runs this multi award winning pub. We managed to get a last minute booking. It's about an hour journey for us to get there, navigating the inevitable pot holes. Not only on the main roads, but the little winding country roads which lead to this foodie destination. On arrival we were seated in the snug, which is like a bit of an overflow area from the main restaurant. We were served a glass of Silver Reign English Sparkling Wine, whilst we had a first look at the menu. A tasting menu comprising of a couple of snacks with wild garlic brioche & beef dripping butter. The starter Cheese & Beetroot-Brick Tartlet, Staffordshire Cheese Custard, Black Garlic Apple Ketchup, Crispy Cabbage. For us, this was the star of the show. It was absolutely delicious and very moorish. The fish course was a nice little piece of Wild Seabass with Confit Isle of Wight tomatoes, brown crab butter sauce. The main was served in two halfs. The first being a very tasty Ox Tongue Borderlaise, Ox Cheek "Pie". Second half, BBQ Dunwood Farm Sirloin, yeasted cauliflower puree, pickled cauliflower stalks, asparagus, wild garlic. A Pre Dessert, Caramelised pecan cake, Birch Sap Ice cream, probaly needed a bit more ice cream. Dessert was Caramelised Woodruff Panna Cotta, rhubarb, rhubarb sorbet, salcombe blonde, chocolate crisp, rosemary tuille. To finish was a delightful Caramel & Cardamom Doughnut. It was lovely to see Thom again, as we normally see him at his own restaurant The Flintlock at Cheddleton .

We thought we'd try here for lunch as we were passing. On arrival it looks very nice, says dog/family friendly but it clearly isn't. We were not greeted warmly, waitress opened with the warm welcome of "Have you booked" it's worth noting it was half empty. I asked if we needed to and she replied bluntly "preferably". She said she would check with chef but in reality we wouldn't stay after this as clearly we weren't welcome. We took our little boy to another pub and were made very welcome . I really don't understand the lack of hospitable greetings from stern staff. It's not difficult to be friendly.

Mixed review as some great things but equally some annoying things. We booked a meal for 4pm on Mothers Day and a few things had run out including champagne so we ordered a bottle of sparkling wine which was lovely but an extra £20, this was not put in a wine holder but on the table next to us and then a chair behind me once the the table was taken! Couldn’t fault the waitress who was lovely and kept topping up our glasses. Meal was good, cauliflower cheese outstanding but side dish of kale cold. The barn is stunning but check in on the room is 4pm and check out 10am which is 2 hours less than most places so felt less value for money. Disappointing continental breakfast - no choice available but given cold food which included blueberry muffins, soda bread and chopped mango and grapefruit which is definitely not a substitute for a full cooked breakfast when the room rate isn’t reduced.

We were disappointed in a number of ways on this return visit. All bookings are now online, and you have to specify if you want to sit upstairs. We didn't and were on one of the tables for 2 just by the entrance, which was not quite warm enough. The menu looked interesting, but we had to ask for a few explanations. The food was well presented, but a bit heavy on the butter (Grenoblais sauce) and the portions were not overly generous or memorable for the price. Service was OK. Overall, the standard didn't live up to the expectation we had for a special evening out and was much less enjoyable and memorable than previous visits. Other local reviewers have also criticised consistency of standards.

I booked a table online for the Melchiors to dine on 14 February, mentioning in the “dietary requirements” section of the online form that one of us was a vegetarian. Some days later I received a voicemail message from the restaurant that there would be no vegetarian food on that day so we would have to eat steak or cancel. This was the first time a restaurant anywhere in the world had told me that it would not cater for a vegetarian. I called back to cancel. Whilst doing so, I was told that one vegetarian dish could be managed, though vegetarian food would not be the focus on that evening. I am aware that it is a relatively small restaurant and didn’t want to put the chef to any trouble, so went ahead with cancelling. I defend the right of restaurants to serve whomever they wish as long as there is no unlawful discrimination. There are plenty of excellent restaurants locally, nationally and internationally where vegetarians are welcome and well catered for. I had no difficultly in finding an alternative for that evening.

Spent two nights here between Christmas and New Year. Accommodation (across the road in converted piggery) was warm and luxurious with a large comfy bed, claw-foot bath, coffee maker, quality toiletries and ample space and furnishings. The pub was a wonderful refuge from the wet and windy weather, featuring a log fire, real ales and fabulous food (would highly recommend the gnocchi especially). Just wish the portions had been a bit more generous. Breakfast was also delicious, including home-made muffins and (in my case) an extremely tasty scrambled eggs on toast with oyster mushrooms. Only real negative was being charged a compulsory £21 tip on departure. I certainly didn’t begrudge the friendly, hard-working staff, who were wonderful, and I had indeed been planning to leave a gratuity. However, I do think these things should be voluntary, not least because there is always a slight uncertainty in my mind in these situations as to whether the total amount actually goes to the staff on top of their wages.

Visited the blind bull for my sister’s birthday and are so pleased we did. The ambience is lovely and definitely feels like a special occasion venue without being too pretentious - we took my sisters children and they were made to feel welcome. We were aware that there was no children’s menu beforehand which was helpful so we could plan what they might eat from the main menu. The staff were really attentive and knew the answers to all our questions! The menu is obscure but we all found something we liked and the smallish menu pushed us to try food we might not normally order - for the better! Highly recommend.

We phoned up in advance to make a booking at the blind bull. We made it clear on the phone our booking was for 2 adults and 1 child. We were not made aware on the phone that there was no children menu. When we arrived they let us know there was no children’s menu but the lady said they could adapt dishes and make dishes smaller off the main menu to accommodate for children. As our child was only 4 we asked if the cod dish could be adapted to be plain cod and some chips. The lady then told us none of the dishes could be changed and they were only as they are advertised. My partner asked her to go and ask the chef because surely if dishes were fresh it wouldn’t be an issue to pan fry some cod and add some chips to the plate. She returned and said that this could not be done as then they would have to charge less for the dish! To our utter surprise that they were willing to charge £30 ish for a child’s dish is disgusting but we still at this point said we would have still paid the money we just wanted something that my daughter would eat. When we said we would still pay the full money suddenly she changed and said they could change the dish. Clearly this place is all about the money coming in and not offering good experiences for people. We walked out and went down the road to the anchor and had a lovely experience from start to finish. We will not be returning

OK so we had a misunderstanding yesterday. So we didn’t get to eat, but still a lovely pub and the young lady who served us was brilliant. We will be back soon.

Recently paid a visit to this restaurant and had an excellent experience. This is a bit of a hidden gem. You would never just come across the restaurant on your travels. Tucked away in the very small village of Little Hucklow, off the beaten track....

Had high expectations owing to the price and photos I had seen in reviews. Staff were welcoming and friendly, the place is genuinely dog friendly, and the inn itself is decorated in a high end country gastro-pub, yet relaxed, style; can’t fault that. It’s a...

Whilst I cannot fault the quality of the food, the lack of toilet facilities causes me a major problem. Previously when we have visited here we were able to use the toilets belonging to the pub next door. Having mobility problems and on medication , I politely asked if it would be possible to use the staff WC. This was refused and I was told to use the public toilets which were a considerable distance away. It took me a very painful 25 minute walk to go there and back.I am 85 years old, leaning heavily on a walking stick . I feel very disappointed as i have visited this fish shop many times in the past.

Really lovely food, you wouldn't know it from the outside/inside - it's like any other pub but the food was really good. Had the best dessert - rice pudding with apple and nuts - to die for.

Arrived around 10:45 am on 10/11/24 only to be informed that there was no hot food being served until 11:15 due to a take away order. Others in front of us left and we reluctantly ordered two coffees, a flapjack and a Pork Pie instead of the full cooked breakfasts we’d hoped for. We were charged twice for the Pork Pie, which we pointed out and were subsequently refunded for. We sat at a table that had the previous occupants breakfast plate on it (which was never cleared, considering the waiting on staff weren’t serving any food at the time) and waited for our coffee which did not arrive. We fetched it ourselves from the counter, at which point around 11:05, they started taking breakfast orders again. The place seemed poorly managed and why you’d turn away valued customers for a take away order is beyond me.
