Could not rate the food as we walked out at the finish, got our coffee's that were good, but waited over twenty minutes for a bacon sandwich and piece of quiche, that staff said would be ten minutes, still not sure when or if the arrived, service was absolutely dreadful, sorry but I won't be back.

Lovely place to sit outside with dogs in nice weather the cakes and drinks are good and gluten free options too. Only slight niggle is that when they're busy the service gets slow and a little unreliable. Otherwise would recommend 👌

Decent poached eggs on white bloomer (not sure if the bread is baked on site) but it was delicious, coffees are on the small side lemon drizzle cake was nice and moist. The blacksmiths could definitely score higher if they had dog friendly area inside, and menus on tables so customers aren't trying to decide at till. Also drinks being made on the spot before serving the next customer doesn't work well, definitely need extra member of staff.

Nice cosy spot for a locally sourced lunch, with good options sweet and savoury. The raspberry white chocolate cake is to die for, as is the price of the toasties. Expect a busier environment than you think on a weekend lunch, as it's a popular spot for cyclists. There is also nice art, I suppose.

Spur of the moment decision to have lunch here after dropping a customer off in Belsay. Was greeted with a warm hello upon entering, place had a great atmosphere mainly friends meeting up for lunch or coffee, I opted for the salad & soup & wasn’t disappointed both were delicious. The service was fast & efficient and the refillable coffee was a bonus too. All in all a great experience, will definitely be back again.

Chaotic to say the least. Young blonde lady was very dismissive and distracted. She continually got my order wrong to the point I had to make two payments as she had forgotten to add an item onto the bill. As I have previously owned a café establishment, I was excited to visit as a friend had recommended, sadly this was not long lived. She was also very disappointed and apologetic on there behalf. Food was good but no more.

It’s very difficult to find a table in here no matter what day of the week or time of day you visit, this is testament to how popular and well loved it is! I hadn’t managed to eat here for many years since I can never get a table however when me and my friend visited on Tuesday afternoon we managed to find a table after a short wait. We each had the broccoli, brie and bacon quiche served with salad and chutney and it was absolutely gorgeous, probably the best quiche I’ve ever had and it all tasted homemade. We then had filter coffees and shared a slice of Victoria sponge cake which was decent but the quiche with salad was definitely the highlight! I’ll definitely be coming back soon to try another quiche, soup or perhaps a panini, you can’t go wrong though no matter what you choose as all the food seems to be of very high quality and proportionately priced - I didn’t find it cheap but nor was it expensive. I can’t wait for my next visit!

We ordered 3 coffees, a cheese scone and an almond and lemon slice. It's always a busy place so finding a table was a bit difficult and no one in a hurry to give up a table even for a 92 year old! Service was a bit slow and inexperienced, although friendly enough. The menu options are OK but a bit dull. Prices OK for the various offerings. Unfortunately, the coffees were dreadful. Not sure if staff hadn't been trained up properly but I've rarely had such a bitter, over hot flat white and the americano was strong enough to stand a teaspoon in. Anyway, we will probably return at some point because it's in a handy location if you're heading out the countryside. Bring back the florentines, they were great!

Arrived just before it opened at 1000 (weekdays), having been here the previous Monday I knew I must try the “Lemon and Blueberry scone“ as they had all been gobbled up by other people on Monday. It was amazing! If home made scones are you treat of choice then you will love them. Other flavours cherry, currents and I think cheese also. Previous visit I had a bacon roll which was also excellent. The staff are very friendly, walking paths and Belsay estate gardens and building near by. The main road is the A696 Newcastle to its junction with the A68 in the borders so a stop on the way out of Newcastle or back from a nice drive potential or just to get out of the city. I arrived at 1000 and there was already a queue so that indicates a popularity and I would imagine regular customers. Advice for motorcycle riders the parking is stone chipping so bring something to put under your bike’s side stand unless you have centre stand. Toilets clean Decent phone signal On ground level so disabled ok High chairs yes I checked about large groups so the advice is to ring and book. My visit was in connection with work and this review is independent of cafe and my employer.

This is now a regular stop on journeys between Essex and Scotland. Food excellent and good value. On one of the two recent visits placing our order was extremely slow as one person was taking orders, making/serving drinks and items from the counter, while other staff could be seen chatting in the kitchen area. Only stayed briefly to ask if they were still serving food. Barman was very helpful, telling me they stopped serving food last October (2023). Google entry states they still serve and all the signs outside say they serve food. Take them down so that us hungry travellers don't go out of our way to find you. Thanks again for the tips of where I might find somewhere to eat

Just went in for lunch, not sure of accommodation services. Lovely choices on menu and food was delicious. Staff were understanding of a disability and attentive to adjustments if required. One chicken goujon sandwich, one posh fish finger sandwich and one Steak & Ale pie with mushy peas. All with hand cut chips. Fish fingers and chicken goujons were freshly battered and more than adequate portions. Delcious. Chips were best we have had for a long time. Heaps of beautofully braised steak in pie and the tastiest gravy! Can be accessed from front (main high street) or rear (through beer garden, outside of which there are multiple car parks). One of our party struggles with mobility and had a four wheel Walker. Both entrances have access ramps and although a few steps, there is a hand rail available and were manageable for her. Definitely recommend. Will be back.
