Excellent tasty food and very good value for money. Totally unpretentious and a lot cheaper than most greedy pubs in this area. Highly recommend this pub. Very friendly landlord, landlady and staff.

Well what can I say …?! My friend said that she had booked The Blackmore Vale pub for our lunch, as last week her family had enjoyed delicious meals for her Mum’s birthday . We arrived at midday Sunday 30th Oct 22 , to a very warm welcome from the Landlord Mark, and were offered regular drinks from the bar, plus a couple of Ales: Otter and Wadworth’s triple 6X . We were then shown our table in the bottom bar area and presented with a mouthwatering menu . We both chose the Beef Wellington ! It was brought out by the Landlord who cut if for us at our table . The Waitress brought out a plate of Roast Potatoes, steamed fennel, courgettes, asparagus. THEN… the waitress brought out a sublime mushroom sauce / cauliflower cheese / another dish of mixed vegetables: Swede, Carrots, Peas and a jug of gravy ! What a superb plate of food and most importantly, the beef Wellington was outstanding . Which contained : Pate, the beef was wrapped in prosciutto and chopped mushrooms … all encased in golden, light pastry . Once we had finished the main, I chose the warm chocolate brownie and cream. ( My friend was too full For Pudding) I was presented with a generous helping of a warm and chocolaty brownie which was a real treat , alongside a coffee to finish . I can’t rate this friendly Pub and Food enough . Go treat yourself too . Perfect Pete , the Chef , will delight you too and you will want to make this Pub your local with the warm and welcome atmosphere that Landlord Mike creates so effortlessly ! We shall be back ! Thank you !

An exceptional venison steak Sunday lunch. Very good value for money, and warm welcome from the landlord and staff. Live music from 15.00 hours was very varied and great too.

Dog friendly BUT BEWARE my terrier and lurcher were attached to table by leads as ordered a meal . Landlord's Bull Terrier ( told she was dog friendly ) ran to my dogs and attacked my lurcher. They couldn't escape .Luckily, only chunks of fur taken but I won't be returning . Good food though.

Warm welcome from landlord/chef. Food a let down though as had the pork roast which was cold and was swimming in very watery gravy. Can not describe what they called apple sauce as was awful. Attempted to eat but had to leave most of meal as wasn't pleasant. Fish and chip meal was poor as fish too greasy and chips which looked more like wedges were over cooked and not pleasant. Felt unwelcome by bar staff. Can't understand why people were allowed to sit at bar as thought that during covid rules this was not allowed.

We visited Marnhull during COVID and we went to the live music at the Blackmore on our Saturday night. The band were brilliant fun and the owner Mark just couldn't do more to make our night enjoyable. The apple pie was divine!

And received much more.. friendly staff and host/chef and a very friendly English Bull Terrier..we had a small Spanish dish to share made from eggs sausage cheese and chips which was fresh made and very tasty and we then had a smoked salmon sandwich and an egg mayonnaise sandwich..the egg mayo was made on the spot and served in tasty granary bread and the smoke salmon was equally well prepared..will definitely be back to try a full meal soon..

The Blackmore Vale Inn, immortalised as Rolliver's by Thomas Hardy in Tess of the D'Urbervilles used to be a fine traditional village pub. It closed several years ago. It has reopened but is sadly a shadow of its former self. It really is not acceptable for a pub offering food not only to have a very limited menu, but to display it only on a blackboard with no prices. The service was friendly but eccentric, and the atmosphere non-existent. We cannot see this sad resurrection of the BVI lasting much longer.

Stopped here on my bike last weekend for a quiet drink at the end of a summers evening ride out. The pub bar was lined with loud swearing young "adults" and the music was loud enough to be uncomfortable in the outside seating area. A disappointing country pub.

If you have dietary requirements keep on driving past this one, a very limited menu with most thing not available, Bar man didn’t know what gluten free was and made a joke of what it could be, felt like we weren’t welcome, keep driving and visit the Crown in Marnhull, amazing in contrast and so welcoming, the empty car park should have been a sign 🤷♂️

Excellent dinner tonight after a long cycle ride to get here. They have a small menu to make sure food is cooked fresh and well. You’re better to get you recommendations from Mark the landlord who oozes bonhomie and is tremendously welcoming.

Had a lovely meal at Charlton Inn, every time we come here, we are greeted with a friendly welcome. The menu is extensive on the choice, we chose off the specialist menu and decided to with Haddock mornay, and I had Steak with Guinness pie, which both came with chunky chips and a side of vegetables, both were excellent, and very reasonable value, the whole lot with 1.2/2 pints came to under £36.00, great service and a great pub

Decided to try this as it’s under new ownership and within walking distance. I booked ahead for Sunday lunch at 1pm thinking it may be busy but the main bar was was completely empty. The staff greeted us warmly and were offered drinks which we decided to have at the table in the the restaurant away from the loud music. Obviously the staff were playing what they wanted rather than something suitable for the clientele. The restaurant only had one other couple dining, it was completely empty apart from us. The waitresses were very young, sweet and polite. After a considerable wait we were served our food. What a disappointment! The lamb wellington consisted of 3 slices of lamb with a thin layer of pastry around the outside, my Mothers 3 slices of pork looked nice and I have 2 slices of overcooked roast beef. The vegetables looked ok but were barely warm and and roast potatoes were yesterday’s and had chewy skins. Very disappointing which we pointed out to the waitress when she asked how our meal was when she cleared the table. I could hear the same comments from the other couple when they were asked the same question. We decided that we’d go home for our pudding rather than chance a repeat reheat of yesterday’s. Such a shame, we weren’t offered any explanation, but one only had to look around to see why the place was empty. My husband who doesn’t cook could have produced a better meal. It cost us £56 in total. We shan’t be returning and I don’t suppose the other diners will either. I took the meat home and there were no complaints from the dogs!

Been here a few times to eat and been a very mixed experience with food quality. Yesterday we have Sunday roast from carvery and it was disappointing. Food tasked like it had been reheated particularly roast potatoes and meat. I think it depends who’s cooking as I noticed normal chef not present. Don’t think I’ll be bothering again as I can do better at home! Lovely pub and people welcoming, it’s a shame.
