Was housesitting for a friend and decided to cheat on dinner on my last night. The Blackadder was just a short walk. I found the server very friendly and charming. Had the Brie for starter and then the Balmoral chicken which was lovely. You know you've had a good meal when you feel a little depressed when you reach the bottom of the plate!

Always a warm welcome from Ian, even for our little dachshund who was offered water. I had the fish and chips, absolutely spot on. Husband had the Balmoral chicken with just brocolli, peas and carrots. After explaining that he follows a mainly keto diet Ian made sure that he was more than catered for. Thank you Ian. 😊 We always love our visits to The Blackadder.

I already reviewed this place on Google, but seeing others had a similar dire experience here, I thought it worth posting to warn others. Where to start? I only agreed to accompany my partner as I needed a break. Id rather have broken my leg. Half-arsed service and when the food arrived...dear God. It had obviously sat under the salamander. Everything was burnt and the steak pie was dry. Even the lumpy bisto gravy didn't help. I left half of it and told the waiter it was horrible and I wouldn't pay for it all. My partner went to pay and they hadn't even acknowledged my complaint. Won't be back. The atmosphere was just as awful. Loud men passing judgement on everything. It's Greenlaw lads not the Vogue offices. I can't recommend at all.

Not all bad but food was pretty plain and disappointing- we had roast beef and fish n chips. The beef was overdone even though we asked for rare beef. Deep fried fish tasted watery maybe had been frozen. Service is by young woman who was also tending the bar so wasn’t particularly professional. She tried however and you can’t knock anyone for that.

We had a great meal. The steak and ale pie was really, really good as were the vegetables and as for the sticky toffee pudding ... hmmmm! The decor is very simple - a well maintained, clean but fairly basic pub - but don't be discouraged, the food quality is equal to any smart London restaurant. And excellent value for money too.

We regularly eat here as a family. The menu is a good basic pub food and always has some nice specials. They cater well for kids and my fussy 7 year old always enjoys it. One of the main reasons we started going is they are always consistent with their opening times whereas many other local pubs seem to just do as they please (even more so since covid). The staff are always really good too. Highly recommended.

Popped in Here for Sunday Lunch whilstv on a day trip out. Pub lovely inside, spacious. Sunday lunch described with all the trimming at £12.95. When it came the firstvthing i noticed was a very small oval plate, size of a childs. My Husband immediately looked at me. 1 small pale yorkshire pudding. 2 wafer thin slices of beef. Very fatty. 2 roast potatoes, 15 peas, 3 slices carrots, 2 mushroom size broccolli and 1 small piece of cauliflower cheese. No mash potatoes or boiled!! It was an appalling portion of food. By the time i gave my husband my cauliflower cheese, 1 roast potato, i was left with hardly anything left. Unfortunately my phone was flat, hence no photo. Will not go to this pub ever again for food. The pints were lovely, thats the only bonus. Had to cook my husband food when we got home. 😟🙁

We were staying a couple of nights in Greenlaw and had our dinner here one of the nights, and it was a good choice. The restaurant area looked very new and well looked after. The food was excellent, I has the mushrooms in a creamy garlic sauve to start, the portion size was good and the mushrooms tasted great in the sauce. My main course was a flat iron steak which was really tender and tasty in the pepper corn sauce. The service was excellent,

After reading great reviews about the food here, we decided to give the place a go.The restaurant is well presented and very clean and the staff are friendly and make everyone welcome. The food was not the best, or even good to say the least! The chips were served soggy and were uneatable except our 6yr old son who cleaned his plate! Our teen was totally unimpressed and ate just the fish whilst leaving the soggy batter and chips. My baked cod was cooked to perfection except for the quantity of salt that made it too salty after a few mouthfuls. The place was reasonably busy so the locals are obviously fans of salt!

I know the title sounds unexciting but that's not what it means - pleasant in 'a pleasant change, a pleasant experience and a pleasant time'. No-one wants to hear the word 'nice'!! That really would be unfair to the Blackadder. Went with friends after a hectic weekend and very much an 'off the cuff/last minute' booking. The place is well presented (obviously had a makeover which has been well worth the investment) and the menu is exactly what you would expect - pub food and pub prices. No pretention to being anything else but don't let that stop you going! It's a varied menu, well presented, well served and our dished were, obviously, freshly cooked. Great service and relaxing after a busy weekend. All round, well worth another visit!

Called in here after a stressful day travelling and to be honest we just wanted some decent pub food. Instead, we found they were still serving Sunday lunch and had one of the best roasts I've ever had. We both went for the trio of meats which that day was beef, lamb & gammon. The soup to start was lovely with warm, fresh bread. The main course came with a huge Yorkshire pudding, perfectly cooked, 3 large slices of meat, beautiful roast potatoes and a fabulous selection of vegetables. The meal was perfect, just delicious. Staff were great, very quick & attentive. Would recommend anyone to go here & try this amazing lunch. Can't wait to go back

When we entered we were met by a lady who was very friendly and although the restaurant was fully booked a short time later she allocated us a table. The place was spotless and the carpet felt plush under our feet. We had the g to share which was more than ample and was delicious and for the main course we both had the which just melted in the mouth , to finish we had the sticky toffee pudding which was moist and delightful. Had dinner at the Blackadder hotel restaurant yesterday again and as before the meal was delicious and presented and cooked to perfection. The kids chicken nuggets were more like mini fillets in bread crumbs along with proper chips, they were scoffed in jig time. My husband again had the white bate starter which he loved and the blade steak done exactly as he asked, medium along with potatoes and seasonal veg. I had the goats cheese salad which was a starter but I asked for it as a main and it was just lovely. Had a very decent meal here one night when we were staying in greenlaw. Can recommend it for sure there's no reason not to try it. The food is good and it's a very nice pub inside with a nice warm atmosphere. My only wee gripe is I think my ribeye steak was a little overpriced for the size and quality of it, it was a bit thin and quite fatty/grisly but good enough not to send back I suppose lol. Not sure if I should be saying this but we were at the cobbles in Kelso the day before for dinner and it probably spoiled us for the blackadder I'm sure I'd have thought more of the blackadder if we'd went there first as it is really good but the cobbles was just sooo very good the blackadder can't compare

We live here, although we are not locals. We loved the furnishings and it is a very nice place to look at. It is clean and the waitress was very good at her job. My son enjoyed his meal of soup and sandwich which he said was very good. I had the fish and chips and did not enjoy it at all. The chips were frozen and the peas were not mushy. The fish was tasteless and very slightly under cooked and spoilt the meal for me. The batter was gorgeous so it was the only part I liked but could not enjoy as I really did not like the fish so could only eat a little of it. In all fairness I was not charged and I was prepared to pay anyway so that is also a good point and very kind although the service was excellent anyway. We will not be eating there again as it is not good enough from my point of view. I hope I have been fair with my opinion and I am aware that not all people are as fussy as I am. I did also have a beer which was lovely and cold. So a mixed bag but in the main a good experience other than my meal.

What a difference in the place - it was unrecognizable. Very well refurbished. We visited for a family dinner. The staff were excellent - friendly and efficient. The food, however, was disappointing in parts. The prawns in the prawn cocktail hadn't been dried off properly so had made the sauce, which was a tad bland, a bit runny. One of the daily specials was lamb shank. It was succulent and falling off the bone and was served with lovely root vegetables but the sauce was sickly sweet and, unfortunately, covered everything. The best dish on the table was the Eyemouth haddock and chips. A huge piece of fish with crispy, golden batter. Delicious.

Dinner on a Saturday night and the place was buzzing, lots of customers and a good din. If you want a quiet dinner then maybe mid-week would be better. Very nice welcome from the staff inside and a reasonable menu and specials. The waitress informed us there would be a delay due to being busy. As it turned out there was not too much of a delay and everyone seemed to be being dealt with without delay. The food was good, fish and chips the star. The special, lamb shank, would have benefitted from a rich gravy but the meat was tender and full of flavour. Great to have a pub style restaurant serving Greenlaw and surrounding area. Hope it goes from strength to strength. Dinner for two without wine £37.

We had a table booked for 7:30 and when we arrived we were greeted with a friendly border smile by the lovely waitress. We were shown to our table and were then shown the specials and given the menu. Our drinks order was taken and promptly served. We were given time to select our dishes.

It's fathers day, so took the family out for Sunday lunch!!! Absolutely beautiful. Roast beef with a big Yorkshire pud with a large dish of veg!!!! We asked for a small portion for my granddaughter and it was a good size too!!! If you have a small appetite, then this is plenty! One of the men had the pork with Apple sauce which had a hint of sage---amazing!!!! Clean plates all round!!! Plenty of desserts to choose from if you have room for one! Don't be afraid to ask for anything as the staff and chef go out of their way to help!! The overall ambiance of the place, staff and food is 1st class! Will definitely be back! Keep up the good work!!!!

My husband and I were in the new Blackadder pub and restaurant yesterday for a meal and drinks and we were blown away with the complete refurbishment, it was astonishing and was almost impossible to imagine that you were in the same building as before it closed. It is just beautiful and very tasteful and the food was absolutely delicious and the service was first class as well as warm and welcoming. I really hope this venture is a great success for the town of Greenlaw as it's exactly what was badly needed, we will be regular diners in this lovely restaurant

Don't be put off by the outside as this place is a lot larger than you would think, recently refurbished to a very high standard. The staff are very attentive but not over powering and very friendly, the food was excellent and the portion's are a good size also good value for money. Well worth the visit I will certainly be back and very soon.

This pub/hotel has been shut for ages and has now been recently refurbished. They don't have rooms ready yet, but have the bar/restaurant open for customers with an extensive seating area.

called in on my way back home for a light bite, ended up having 3 courses, all I can say is the food is out of this world, had the salmon starter and my wife have the soup and homemade bread, the bread was so soft and with a touch of garlic and cheese really put the edge on the superb tasty soup the chef had, the starters came out, was well presented and really nice, but the main course was to die for, I had the chicken fillet stuffed with tomato's wrapped in bacon, and my wife had the haddock, many times we go out to all places in the borders but this hotel in the middle of Greenlaw has got to be the jewel in the crown of the borders, nothing is a trouble to the staff, the chef actually came out to speak to us, and what a well presented man he was, told us all about the hotel and how it had been all done out and what a lovely décor, he was so kind to offer us different additions to our selection of potato with our meal to suit us, it is amazing for me to see such a wonderful chef to do the things he does to keep a customer happy with a finiky old bloke as myself happy, hats off to you John for making our experience so wonderful on our aniversary

We had a meal here a few days ago and can highly recommend this place, under new management they have refurbished to a very high standard and a great choice of food. We had Salmon and Soup Starters and Fish for mains and the haddock I must say was beautiful and all dishes very well presented. The puddings are to die for. Will certainly be back soon.

food was awesome, I have ate in many places but at The Blackadder Hotel the food and atmosphere was second to none, chef came out to speak to us, he was very clean and professional, told us all about his dishes, hot plates and portion sizes were spot on, I would recommend anyone to visit and chill out to a superb relaxing meal, I have never in all my travels had haddock the way this chef does it

Stumbled in on opening night in freshly refurbished pub with friendly staff welcome. Training night with limited, but bargain £5!! 3 course menu. Smoked salmon salad starter was v tasty and beautifully presented. Should have taken a photo. Big portion of haddock n chips was super too but would prefer fries to heavy oven chips. Ice creams excellent. Honey real ale washed it down well and good to be served water. Should do well!!

What a great find! Everything homemade and absolutely delicious. Very pleasant welcoming staff and just wish we lived closer as we would make it a regular place to eat.

Had been looking forward to my visit made specifically to try this place out. Noone else in except the numerous staff all talking away happily to each other. After looking at menu which looked fabulous I went up to order as none of staff looked vaguely interested in taking my order. No sit down we will come to you. I sat and waited and the place started to fill. 3 other tables came in and someone came from behind the counter to clear dirty dishes that had been on a table when I went in. Finally someone came to serve me and I commented on my wait to which I was given a story about the coffee machine not working which was why staff were chatting. Hmmmmn really. Then as of course luck would have it they were out of the very thing I was there to have. I will give them another chance another day as the menu was interesting but the service was shockingly bad especially if they then are having to tell people no coffee! Zero recognition of interaction with customers and I speak as someone with a long hospitality career. Great location great menu but lacking in customer connection.

A great find. Friendly service and delicious generously filled toasted club sandwiches. Super coffee too. Would definitely return if we revisit this area in the future.
