We have been exploring Ripon and stumbled across this pub. First impressions good, cosy, sports bar, lad on the bar polite and professional, woman doing paperwork quiet and evasive. husband needed the toilet , disgusting, he informed me how on earth can a guy make such a mess all over a toilet like that !!! He informed the poor barman who hurried off to clean it. We won't be visiting a sports bar anytime to soon

Stumbled across this gorgeous place last year and have been going back ever since. The atmosphere here is fantastic it seems to be the hub of the community. The ladies who run it are ALWAYS doing something fantastic for the community, weather it's fundraising for a local who's been poorly or raising money for a good cause. Always thinking of others while also running a fun immaculate great place which is so perfectly balanced with calm chilled days. Myself and my partner wish we lived closer even just because of the fantastic community spirit that comes from this pub. Keep it up ladies your doing a fantastic job. Lee and Ali

Best atmosphere in Ripon by a mile. Big screens for all the sports, great selection of drinks (very reasonably priced), and some of the best weekend parties you’ll find anywhere. Top Karaoke too!

Absolutely brilliant atmosphere walked in and there was a party happening and we ended up joining in! Fab cocktails as well which is always a bonus

I visited in June with family! The staff are really friendly, drinks are very reasonable priced a great atmosphere, nothing was too much to ask.

Popped into this pub whilst visiting Ripon and Harogate. The pub is a hidden gem offering great drinks at very reasonable prices, we were made welcome by the locals and the lovely owners Sarah and Kelly. I would definitely recommend you pop in if your in Ripon for a good night of friendly fun with great drinks. Lovely friendly atmosphere.

Bar staff are brilliant. Very welcoming and conversational. Has a good local pub vibe.

Seemed a nice feeling pub on entering. I walked to the bar,lots of people stood at the bar, not so many occupied tables. A very nice gentleman moved up to allow me access to the bar;and barmaid. I stood waiting,not long at all,while the barmaid busied herself doing what she was doing. While I waited patiently a couple entered the premises and stood at the end of bar. She noticed them immediately,she knew them,and served them. My fault for not having a commanding presence,or being known. Basic barkeeping skills fail. I left the Black Swan and went elsewhere.

Sunday lunch 2 for £20 just like you’d get at home. No frills but homemade Yorkshire puddings and we scraped our plates clean.

Great drinks at Black Swan. Very Dog Friendly and good value for money. Looks are deceiving, we were staying overnight in Ripon and popped in for a pint, very busy and good atmosphere with regulars. We sat in a quiet bit at the back with the dog, barman was really friendly and brought over water and treats for our dog - very thoughtful

Tried booking online twice,no response. Booked for 2 at 18:45, waitress took order for drinks at the bar,we then sat down at table. 2 other couples already sat. Waitress told us of specials and what they didn't have and off she went. An influx of people came in. Service very slow, although just one young lady manning bar and restaurant. A couple who came in after us were given the specials etc, and proceeded to place their order- we then prompted the waitress we were still waiting to place our order. I had Lasagne, which was basically a sheperds pie with pasta sheets! No taste what so ever. Full of carrots,mushrooms etc, but no herbs etc. Very bland indeed. The young lady was rushed off her feet,she had 16 customers in restaurant and 6 in the bar. Would i recommend? No, far better places around,which is a real shameas the pub itself is very quaint

went in on a Sunday afternoon, had a chat with the barman who was very polite and a bit of banter with one of the locals. Friendly place. Guinness was recommended and it was best pint I've had for a long time, very creamy. Could have quite easily made a session of it. the wife made a point of telling barman just how good her's was. I'd happy call back again if I'm in the area again

Working in Harrogate, but staying over in Ripon , a googe search found this pub after looking for somewhere with live sports on, and it's a gem,,,, always busy and the staff are so accommodating when it comes to what sports you want to watch , cheap beer and never had a poor pint, all the staff are so friendly and after a couple of visits know exactly what you want , got to be a 5 star from me

Stayed at rip on went into the black swan for a beer completely ignored by the barmaid she decided to serve the regulars who just appeared at the bare Ben though we were standing waiting to be served just dam right rude place full of drunks

Another place to go back to for good value and welcoming staff. Obviously popular so must be consistent.

Some of these reviews have to be about another pub. The owners are really nice people and the beer, atmosphere, clientele and low prices are second to none in Ripon. Even the indicated closing time of ten o'clock tonight, 'a Friday night' been way is at least three hours out. Don't always believe what you read, Visit the Black Swan..... you won't be disappointed

Stopped over in Ripon whilst crossing England by bike. Looked for some entertainment after dinner on a Friday night and did we find it here! Andy Taylor the complete entertainer got us going all evening - what a legend!

Very relaxing place to drink. Always feel safe and not judgmental at all. All staff have time to take and listen if you need a bit of support. Everyone needs to learn from the landlady's about hospitality and friendliness

A great atmosphere. A traditional pub which is comfortable, clean, tidy, and tastefully decorated. The Landlady and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Drinks are very reasonably priced, and they serve a great pint.

So where should I begin, this is the fourth time I have been to the Swan and I really don’t know how to take it now that it is under new management. The owner seems like a nice guy and he does see interested and keen with regards to making the pub work. Although the atmosphere in my opinion has changed. Since the new management they are in my opinion are less friendly towards military. Now am not saying that the management but it is the way the new clientele portray themselves as in the are always saying how better the bar is and funny less military. However I have to admit the lager tastes so much better.

Very disappointed. Had to walk past 3 people smoking in the front door and when we sat down our immediate thoughts were how run down it was. We were regulars here in 2006 -2009 and it was one of our favourites in Ripon.

Although we would have liked to visit this establishment that idea was cut short after a rude and unaccommodating phone call when trying to book. Disappointed by the lack of customer service especially as other reviews mention how friendly the staff are... but maybe that doesn’t extend to those who answer the phone?

Brilliant, quality, local pub just off the square in Rippon town centre. Staff very friendly and extremely helpful. Pool table 2 credits for a £1. Juke box was free but you have to ask behind the bar and they will put credits on for you. “When it’s quiet” had a great time here in the games room listening to music we wanted to listen to. Would recommend to all Thanks
