Great beer..not tried food. Update..went yesterday still great beer...

Great small pub with traditional low ceilings and great friendly and helpful staff. Had lunch here a few times and has a nice medium sized menu. Staff can change the food to suit appetite too! They can also accommodate large groups if you book in advance. Beautiful to be here on a sunny afternoon.

Great food with great service after an exhausting day. Staff were friendly and nice. Well worth a visit for the ribs!

Typical pub food with a few interesting local twists. Decent beer, cider and cocktail selection. Very friendly and welcoming staff if a little inexperienced. Live music also available.

Would have given this lovely place a 5 star review as the food and staff were great, but …it was spoilt by ‘unmanaged’ customers. The pub is dog friendly which is great BUT a large dog ‘Steve’ who appeared to be a regular, as he was known to many in there… was wondering around off the lead all evening . He came and sat by our table and actually tried a few times to take food off the edge of the table. It was very off putting. It’s great to be dog friendly but they really should be on a lead ?

Amazing place to go for food. Had 2 children with me and were able to enjoy food they liked aswell. Great atmosphere with having a band playing into the evening. The kids enjoyed what the saw before we went home. Will definitely be returning.

Call in to taste the delicious home cooked food from their extensive menu, always something on there to please. Or try one of their tasty snacks from the counterside cabinet, there are some exceptional tastes to sample. And their supply of local beers, all kept and served in tip top condition, prizewinning Camra Awards. Ludlow Gold is my particular favourite. I'm sure you won't be disappointed at this canal side ale house, and for those warmer days, take a seat in the beer garden overlooking the Staffs-Worcs Canal, and watch the narrow boats and canal wildlife. I regularly go there from Birmingham to see live bands.

On visiting The Black Star for the first time today we - along with our young dog Teddy - received a very warm welcome from Vicky behind the bar and landlady Maria. This pub is genuinely dog-friendly which helped us to relax and our enjoy our drinks and very appetising lunches. The pub enjoys a great canal-side location and is notable for its live music at weekends. We look forward to visiting The Black Star again very soon!

We had lunch here on Sunday afternoon great food and quality

I have a dairy allergy and asked for an allergen menu but there isn’t one. The staff said that can advise me but it’s not as helpful as actually looking at my own menu. And also is much less clear since I tried to order something listed as vegan and was told it has milk in. And then tried to order something else I was told is dairy free and then the staff came back and told me it has milk in. An allergy menu is the law and is much easier for everyone. The rest of the group enjoyed their meals although we all thought it was really cold inside. Jackets all left on.

Revisted Stourport-on-Severn again very recently, and again, we decided to dine here and enjoy a few drinks before heading out to a pre planned boat trip... This pub is definitely a genuinely excellent place to enjoy a nice meal, day or evening, and it's a dog friendly business as well.. The food was very nice, staff were very caring, helpful and very professional..it's located by the canal so you can sit outside if you want to and enjoy a summers night..on the Saturday there was live music playing..very rarely can you find such a pub that has so much ambience and both locals and visitors enjoy and lovely evening.. It's 100% a yes from me after enjoying yet another visit to this pub.. And we will definitely return in the future when we're in the area.. ( if the lady who was sitting by the door as we left is the landlady,) I am the gentleman who returned our glasses to the bar as we left..

Service was excellent. Food really reasonably priced and excellent portion sizes. We ordered from the light bites menu and it was more than enough food. Would definitely recommend and return.

I didn't eat here but some of our group did and they were impressed with the portion and quality.

I had a craving for BBQ ribs, came here and was so disappointed, I reckon it was aldi ribs out the box, BBQ sauce was like water, 1/10 unfortunately

The Black Star is a must visit pub in Stourport! Upon entering, I was immediately struck by the warm and cozy ambiance. Whether you're a local or just passing through, you'll feel right at home here. And on top of that, it’s a welcoming environment for your fur babies, even providing an option of Dog pops! The menu offers a good selection of traditional pub food, with something to suit every palate. I tried their homemade chilli on chips, which was very tasty and i highly recommend. The portion sizes are generous, and the quality of the food is evident. What truly sets The Black Star apart is its exceptional service. The staff are friendly, attentive, and genuinely seem to care about their customers experience. They were knowledgeable about the menu and quick to accommodate any requests. The pub also boasts a great selection of beers, ales, and ciders. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a pint while taking in the scenic views of the river. In warmer months, the outdoor seating area is a real treat, offering a serene place to relax and unwind.

Visited 30/07/24. A 50 minute wait for our order without any explanation we eventually got our very indifferent quality steaks. The chips were ok. I suspect that if this pub was a Wetherspoons it would be pretty high on the closure list. Given its overall good ratings on most review sites it was rather disappointing. Definitely not on our revisit list.

Nice dog friendly pub by the canal. Serving decent beers as well as lovely coffees, a good food menu plus locally made sausage rolls and scotch eggs.

A day to remember. We had summers' day cruise on the canal of Stourport-on-Severn yesterday, 21 July 2024. A stop at the Black Star for lunch punctuated a lovely day on a canal boat trip. Our wonderful and generous friends gave us a treat on a houseboat cruise and a pub lunch. Now I have seen the operation of a lock, I realise the care one has to take to be safe cruising the canals in the UK. The boat we were in, is almost the length of the Stourport-on-Severn canal lock. If the boat were to hit the streaming water falling off the back wall, it would quickly fill up before you can get out as the walls are steep, 12 meters deep. I was told. We had a couple of exciting moments. First the captain of our boat saved a notebook from the dark waters of the canal just in the nick of time. Then as our captain was releasing the lock, we saw a little girl in a frilly, fairy-like frock, without a life-jacket, one of two girls of the family of the boat just before us floated momentarily on the surface of the dark water of the lock! Everyone froze.Then quick as a flash our captain dipped his left hand, which was nearest to the little girl's left hand, and lifted her out of the water! Sorry, I had my camera ready but I had frozen too. We had Earl Grey tea with a slice of lemon and an event-free trip back. A must re-visit reminder. Beautiful country, with peace loving people and dogs galore.

Great for a quick pint of traditional Wye Valley Ales, ciders and lagers also spirits and soft drinks..Nice seating Area right next to the canal, you might even meet Tommy the pub dog..

This place has probably the best range of wonderful real ales I have ever seen. We were looking for a Sunday Lunch but they only offered their regular menu. No worry - we had a very tasty Lasagne each with a great bowl of salad. The main reason for being there was for their beer. I didn't actually count the pumps but their were 8 or 9 any of which would have suited me. They are a Wye Valley Brewery Pub and Wye have my all-time favourite beer: Butty Bach. But we each decided to try one that we hadn't tried before: Enville Ginger. This really hit the spot. We had tried several Enville beers in the last few weeks and liked them all but the Ginger was a real wow! Look out Butty Bach.

This pub is fantastic traditional pub with great food and drink but also has the best landlady EVER! I booked for my husbands 40th for a party of 16 people and she really just went above and beyond to help me sort everhing even picking up balloons and sorting the gluten free cake! Thank you so much highly Recommended

Lovely pub in Stourport on Severn! Friendly, helpful, informative staff. Great selection of local ales & ciders along with the usual pints. We only had a few pints, so can’t comment on food, but other peoples looked good.

The best food, the best staff, the best environment. Nothing could be better with friendly staff and food that destroys me (I couldn’t even finish the meal, as much as I wanted to). As a family we had spaghetti bolognaise, lasagne, curry and more and we have all collectively said that it is the best food we have had in a long, long time. Thank you so much for the experience, I would choose this as the best pub in the West Midlands for sure!

We tried the Black Star after seeing reviews. The food was lovely, the staff friendly and the prices really good value. The only reason this is a 4 rather than a 5 is because the seating was a little uncomfortable, however if I had a chance at 4.5 it would be that.

I ordered a freshly baked baguette with thickly carved proper ham and coleslaw (not cheap formed ham, I asked first!) It was delicious. Dog friendly and serves gin, what more can I say apart from nice venue.

I went there last week for my little girls 8th Birthday. The staff are really friendly, they are eggar to please and accommodate. It’s a lovely traditional pub, by the canal. The food is fantastic, presented nice, compliments to the chef. I’ve been twice this month and it’s been great each time. This place is really good value for money. A great place to go for a family meal.

Popped in for a drink on a bike ride. Lovely kind and friendly young lady behind the bar. Served promptly. Nice relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and good selection of flavoured cider on tap.

A wonderful pub right by the canal near the centre of Stourport. Prices are keen and the place is deservedly very popular. You can sit outside and watch the canal or find a table inside. The staff are great and will look after you well.. there's even love music several times a week so no wonder the place is popular!

Amazing food, took family who were visiting and they loved it. Beautiful burgers both the chicken and the beef. Kids food was great value, our nephew had the jacket with cheese and beans and loved the fact he could put his beans where he wanted. Great selection of beers.

We chose the Black Star as a venue for dinner for a group of 22 people. Maria at the Black Star was wonderfully helpful in our preparation for the event. On the day the function room was great, all the staff were helpful and very friendly, and the food excellent and good value for money. Our group loved it. The whole experience was very enjoyable and the underlying organisation professional and efficient.

The service was impeccable, the food was amazing and the ambiance was fantastic. My Finace and I were having such a disappointing day out but as soon as we stopped in for a late lunch it turned our day around, not to mention how affordable! 2 massive meals with drinks for around £26, absolutely perfect!!

Called in for lunch today due to the fact they allow dogs. A warm welcome for us and ours 2 dogs - the staff are lovely, efficient and very friendly. The food was excellent and great value for money, with plenty of options including veggie and vegan. Took family who were visiting here, had a fab meal. All 7 dishes were hot and arrived together. The lasagna portions were huge and absolutely delicious, the burger was great and the curry was so tasty. Our family can’t wait to return and go again.

My friend & i booked here for our Christmas Dinner, a 3 min walk to the venue which was perfect. It was beautifully decorated & cosy, our table had gorgeous little Xmas tokens & a gift, great touches. The meal was lovely, everything was military precision, what a great team. We enjoyed our Christmas day & thank you to ALL the team. We hope to return in the summer months for live music nights, the venue looks great. Thank you all xx

Great live music venue, enjoyed Melvin Hancock Band, good service even though very busy. The atmosphere was electric, people all very friendly. Shame the drummer has changed for the band, not so good now.
