An alternative menu cooked really well with fast service even though it was busy. I would definitely recommend a visit and would return.

The restaurant is ideally placed for Covent Garden and has outside seating which was lovely on a warmish day. The food was delicious and the drinks well served. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

Chic little cafe with heavy wooden design & use of black. Latte I had was good. The toast was tasty and healthy with ingredients like sun dried tomato, halloumi cheese, spinach & mushroom. The little flaw I’d say was the egg was a bit overcooked to me. It gets quite busy during the lunch hours.

Lovely old building with loads of quirks, fantastic breakfast/brunch I personally had the crispy duck hash which was so so good Each and everyone of the 5 of us enjoyed every mouthful of what we had, would have returned another day if we hadn’t have gone here on the last day

Pretty good place for a brunch, not much variety, but Ozdenir Pasha eggs and The Hunter eggs, bacon, sausage and beans were taste were exactly what we need after a long walk in the area. Nice, small, cosy place with good vibes, proper service and prices.

We went in as a family of 6 and the staff were un polite and offered us a table for 4 and it was busy and was very narrow and the was another table for 2 next to us and put 2 of our kids and the staff came to us and told that we can’t use that one as it’s separated from our table which made no sense as we barely fit in the thanks they offered us so we left

A very busy place but worth the wait. The coffee is really good and the range of breakfast choices excellent. After a night of too much partying, I needed a good old fashioned fry up but this is far classier than that. Their take on baked beans is also a winner. Loved it!!!

Great to find a place doing brunch dishes all day! Delicious dishes and great coffee in a quiet street in Covent Garden. The dishes have their own unique twist as well as Bro g able to add extras to a basic dish. We sat outside as sunny but loved the look of the inside too!

I don’t know where to start. When we came in we were seated and told we would get table service. We waited so long to get any waiter to come to us that by the time they did we had run out of time because we were on our way to the theatre. When I did try go up to the counter all the waiters were literally throwing things over me and completely failing to acknowledge I was waiting to order or talk to someone. The service here is terrible and I’m glad we didn’t stick around because the first impression was very bad.

Went here for breakfast when visiting London and man it did NOT disappoint. The breakfast bun was simply delicious and I didn’t even need to get lunch, I got through the day till diner time. The service was perfectly friendly and the back where we were seated was super cosy library-like. 10/10 would recommend to get your breakfast here when visiting London!

Looking for breakfast and stumbled across this gem. A simple menu, but plenty of good options. Nice coffee and rich dark chocolate. Beef sausages for the non-pork eaters and a good range of sides.

My Mom and I dined where with one of our local friends who selected this spot. While it looks small from the outside, it is fairly spacious inside. There is no reservation system, just a good old wait outside until your name is called. Thankfully on a Sunday morning we were seated after a brief wait. The atmosphere was quaint, the service was decent but the food was AMAZING! I had the crispy confit duck hash and it was such a flavorful unique dish, I’m absolutely enjoyed it. We also ordered the Green Eggs and The Gatherer, which was also tasty dishes.

We visited 2 days ago around 10ish and looking at the menu we just couldn’t decide what we wanted - all sounded amazing!!Ended up ordering poached eggs with mushrooms, the grilled banana porrige, orange juice, matcha tea and some toast (which by the way was 2 huge slices of sourdough ). Everything was perfect and the staff were super friendly ☺️Just a side note.. we were so full that we only managed to eat around 5ish so just to bare that in mind the portions are big!

The breakfast was amazing a really really lovely atmosphere with helpful accommodating and friendly staff. Really recommend to anyone considering it.

This restaurant was recommended by my son on a recent visit to London.I visited my son who was at University in May 2021.On arrival we tried to find a table inside but unfortunately we had to do with an outside tablet, which was fine.We ordered one of their breakfasts from the menu and were not disappointed. Mine consisted of two thick rashers of tasty bacon, two poached eggs, a large mushroom, tomato, sausage and spicy beans, garnished with rocket. Beautifully presented and sumptuous in taste. Yes this recommendation lived up to its " billing". My son had changed his eggs for scrambled otherwise the same as mine. Accompanied by a Latte and Cappuccino coffees.5/5 for taste and presentation.4/5 price..£15 per breakfast.

Came for a birthday brunch, The Forager vegan breakfast was absolutely delicious. We were really impressed and will definitely return.

Stopped here before leaving London. The Service is really good and the food and coffee pretty nice too. If you sit by the window you can watch the works go by. Tables outside too.

The brunch was really lovely and healthy, but none of the staff were wearing masks which is extremely disappointing and terrible. I would not recommend eating here.

Had never heard of a Bubble & speak breakfast before coming to London but it turned out to be the best breakfast I’ve ever had. Terrific portions too, was a great start to a day of exploring.

This is a trendy cafe that does coffee and food. I have had the food in the past but today just had coffee - a flat white served in a small cup so not too milky, nice and strong with a good flavour.

Went here with my cousin on a Sunday and was told the wait was 20 minutes, which was expected. A while later while waiting, the lady forgot that I had put my name down earlier and kept asking for my name, before finally accepting that I was indeed on the list and could be shown to our table. We sat down and looked at the menu (which is not that extensive) and did not receive any service for 10 minutes, when we finally asked a waiter if we could have some water. We had to ask to give our orders a while later, as nobody was waiting on us. The orders took about 40 minutes (!) to arrive, while everyone around us (who even were sat after us) got served. At the end my cousin asked to have the discretionary service charge taken off the final bill as we decided it was not deserved, upon which the manager who sat us came and asked why, then kept saying the slow service was because it was busy! I don't think it was more than an average Sunday. Another issue was that the entire place had only one toilet, so there was often a queue to use the bathroom. On the up-side the food was quite good (biggest portion of french toast I've ever had - wasn't able to finish it) and the freshly pressed juice I also really enjoyed.

Vi que este lugar de brunch fue muy revisado y mis amigos y yo decidimos probarlo un sábado. De acuerdo, esperaba una larga espera dado que era un sábado, pero cuando aparecimos no había cola y la señora nos dijo que estaríamos sentados en 15 minutos. Esos 15 minutos eventualmente se convirtieron en una hora y 15 minutos, lo que hubiera sido genial si ella nos hubiera dicho eso originalmente. We come to The Black Penny whenever we are staying in London for our Sunday breakfast, 3 times in 2019 and each time we have had an amazing meal. It is not your run of the mill average breakfast. The all day breakfast bap is enormous but too good to leave any of it. When we went in December it was the day after their staff party but service was brilliant as it always has been.Thank you Black Penny, you deserve the 5 starsSandra and Cally Hammond

I’ve visited this spot on a few occasions and it’s on my list of great brunch / lunch spots in central London. I’d head away from super busy Covent Garden and eat here if you have a choice.

Whilst the food was good they weren’t very accommodating for food allergies, the waitress just gave me a dirty look. There are much friendlier places in the same area. Definitely don’t come if you can’t eat eggs.

I was visiting Zara and before I started shopping I needed a Cappuccino. I saw a new restaurant in the corner of Duke of York Sq. So I decided to go in. The two waiters were very welcoming towards me and took my order for coffee. On the next table they were eating Hunters breakfast, I felt so hungry and the food looked delicious, and beautifully arranged on the plate. I had sausage bacon poached eggs tomatoes and the best medditerrean beans ever, and rocket, it was v appealing to the eye.

I have to say the coffee was great and so was the food. Around normal prices for the area but the two waitresses serving were unfriendly and not bothered even to the point of being rude so we will not be visiting again

We came in for lunch of 3 salads with a choice of salmon or chicken thighs. I went for the latter which were juicy and tender with crisp skin. The salads were excellent quality and had very varied ingredients. The portion was generous and should have been for the slightly expensive £12. The coffee was delicious.

They will give table to more than 1 person first. So people come later than the one person will get going in first

My son recommended we go there as he’d been in the past - good shout boy. The duck hash is tasty filling and light the salad are fantastic and tasty. Best of all though the coffee try their cortado exceptional. Price wise well worth it

Popped in for a late breakfast, food was delicious, plenty of Vegetarian and Vegan options. And I've never had Broad Bean Hummus before.

Only had coffee but a chance visit on the way to the Saatchi gallery. The coffee was really good and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

What a find this place is...fairly innocuous from the outside but on the inside, it really is a stand out place for a bit to eat in the morning (with great coffee). We had the Veggie option and the mainstay of the breakfast menu (I think it was called "the Hunter'?) both were full of fab ingredients that we really enjoyed. I asked for poached eggs and they got them spot on...really good

I heard sadly tat the owner changed it used to be just a delicious and fun place to have lunch or dinner. The variety was amazing.

Finding this was the happiest of accidents! Our son had the sausage bun, we both had ‘the gatherer’! We were all very impressed and my husband declared it to be the best brunch ever! Their own spicy beans were a particular hit! The waitress was doing the job of three people ( it’s a busy little place) but she did so brilliantly and with a smile on her face. Also sampled the carrot cake which was divine. Keep up the good work guys- we’ll certainly be back!

My husband and I had our only true breakfast on our trip right here. We sat outside, and service was great. We each had a cappuccino which hit the spot first thing in the morning.

Too good I didn’t get a photo of the Wild Mushroom Hash. Friend recommended this place and I’m glad we made the time to check it out. Seems a popular lunch spot and cosy laptop working space. Coffee was quality and the polenta hash was delicious. Highly recommend!

5 minutes walking from Covent garden I discovered this little place which is extremly nice, the quality of the food is very good, excellent breakfast and brunch, excellent coffee, great staff and suitable for food allergy people like me.

A great place for breakfast or brunch! Very tasty with lots of options for vegetarians as well. Spoil urself and get come bubbly to start the day. A healthier version with fresh juices and matcha available as well:)

Very nice little breakfast/brunch place. Easy to locate, cozy atmosphere and a nice little menu. My granola was very good, and my bf was very happy with his eggs. It is a bit pricey, but the food itself was very nice!

If you are fussy about your coffee this is a good choice. Nice staff. Relaxed casual ambience. I had a slice of the orange and almond cake, which was moist and tasty.

Popped in one morning for a quick bite to eat and a coffee. Served straight away by friendly staff. Ordered scrambled egg on sourdough bread toast with a side of Halloumi cheese. Cost about 9.50 for this and had a latte served in a small glass. Tasted great and just the job. Very pleasant interior. We don't eat out in London that much so not used to these prices but the quality of food was very good.

Pedí un café con leche y una tostada francesa y ambos eran increíbles. No estoy seguro de cómo hacer tostadas francesas en otros lugares ya que esto ha entrado en mi vida. Definitivamente regresaré para otros platos ¡SI vuelvo a visitar Londres nuevamente!

Excellent coffee. Breakfast is great. You can choose from an extensive cooked breakfast menu or choose Bircher Muesli with berry compote or yoghurt and fruit. Plus fresh juices. Free cucumber water on hand.

Myself and my partner walked from Tottenham court looking for places to eat when we stumbled upon this gem. I had the bubble and squeak with a side of halloumi with the best cappuccino I’ve ever had. 5 star, incredible.

We used a red letter day voucher for our brunch. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We both chose The Hunter from the menu and wow it was amazing. The food is all of an excellent quality and cooked to a good standard. The poached eggs were out of this world. We really enjoyed our meal along with the delicious coffee. I would definitely recommend The Black Penny for an amazing experience.

Had breakfast here rather than at the hotel with friends. A great way to start the day. English breakfasts can be so stodgy but this was fresh and well cooked. Service is very friendly

Firstly, the decor was modern and clean. I found the staff polite. The food was nicely presented and tasty, but pricey. I was excited to taste the water as it looked very appealing with a bunch of fresh mint in the carafe, however it was completely tasteless and odourless, so had obviously been topped up without changing the herbs. However, the biggest disappointment was the treatment to my vegan/gluten free daughter. The menu stated vegan options, yet there were none. There was one dish that contained no gluten but it did include an egg. She asked the waiter if she could exchange the egg for some mushrooms or tomatoes. He told her she could opt to remove egg but they would not substitute. If she wanted anything else it would be at an extra charge of £3 plus per item. I understand that the management do not want to do this on a regular basis, but when they cannot offer a vegan option , i think that attitude stinks. Especially when you consider that the cost of her food was £12 plus and for the 4 of us to have breakfast and coffee it came to a total of £71 !! I Wouldn’t recommend this cafe as there are many obliging coffee shops in the area

Another visit to Black Penny and same good food and service. We had scrambled eggs and salt beef hash and both dishes were good. The sourdough bread that came with scrambled eggs was not as tasty as it usually is but was ok.

Food was superb - great flavour & portions. Staff couldn’t have been nicer. Bottomless Prosecco just kept coming! Strongly recommended (contrary to some other reviews)

This place was decent, it had what we were after. However, I would agree it’s on the pricey side. At first I didn’t think it was that bad but when you look at over £25 for two bacon and egg baps, a coffee each and some water, it seems excessive.

Awesome food here - lovely menu with a variety of choices for food. I can highly recommend the Granola and Sourdough Toast with black penny jam. The jam was sweet and sticky, and the granola contained fresh pineapple. Lovely.

I went for bottomless brunch and was disappointed. Food was mediocre, and unlike other bottomless brunch places they refused to leave the bottle at your table, so you have to wait 5 minutes whenever your glass is empty for them to top up. They don't give you your first drink til around 15 minutes after you arrive, and don't refill your glass in the last 10 minutes of your session as it's near the end. Overall just felt very stingy, must be a very stingy nasty manager making their staff act like this. Maybe try giving customers a good experience than just trying to make a profit from them? You may find you are more successful.

Found this place after been recommended in google. Nice location, great atmosphere, great service. Wasn’t impressed as much as I thought I would be with the food. And of course, a bit disappointed with pricing .. brunch for one £17 ?? And at the top of the bill 10-15% service charge... unfortunately this was something that really put me off. My experience overall ok.

In search of a little coffee place for breakfast in Covent Garden; this one is a bit out of touristy area but very nice indeed. The breakfast selection is great; went there once and came back again the following day, yes it’s that good. Cozy and delicious

We went to the black penny on a Sunday. The food was very good and the staff lovely which made the occasion.

Wanted a place to chill out for a while prior to meeting friends later. This place fitted the bill nicely. Comfortably modern, good service and tasty drinks. We didn’t eat but would definitely try food as well next time.

This might’ve been my favorite breakfast in London. Such a neat interior and great menu. I’d highly recommend visiting this place - get the French toast!!

We were heading out of London and looking for a fabulous meal to end with and found it at the Black Penny. We had to eat outside on a cold morning because it was too busy. The heaters did not provide any heat from what I noticed but the food was amazing. There were 5 of us eating, we all ordered different items and all the meals were excellent. I would go again but hopefully it would be warm or we’d have better timing. Skip the hot chocolate for the price.

My Mumma and I came here for brunch and were not disappointed. I had green scrambled egg with smoked salmon, my mum had a poached egg breakfast and the ladies sat next to us had sour bread, roasted nuts, fresh blueberries and lemon ricotta. They scored their food 12/10. The seating was not very comfortable and space is limited, so it’s not a place to go for s leisurely catch up with friends but the food and service is top notch.

Nice place. Friendly service, delicious cakes and a solid cuppa. Was glad to snag a seat at the front window just as the lunch rush seemed to be ending. I like that the Black Penny's near Covent Garden but not in the heavily touristed centre of it all. I'll be back.

Went here for lunch yesterday with my son whose office is nearby and he often orders a lunch to take out from here. We ate in and ordered the chicken with 2 salads each plus a ginger shot. Prompt service. Flavoursome food. Reasonable price for this part of a London. The ginger shot ( with honey) was a first for me - enjoyed it and it certain clears your sinuses!

Very bad experience with the staff. I had a meeting at Black Penny for business during the lunchtime and staff person was explicitly pushing me to order food and upsell more expensive options.
