The Black Lion in East Hertfordshire

A warm and welcoming bar with friendly staff. I was down in Bishop's Stortford on business from Glasgow. Zoë and the team made me feel most welcome.

I've been kicked out twice. The first for not buying a drink within 10 minutes of entering the pub. The later time I was kicked out for being cool. I enjoyed the Guinness though. And I would of bought another, and then probably a Coca-Cola if they didn't kick me out for no good reason. They (including security) were unable to supply me with a reason.

A pretty dingy old pub, bar staff are pretty odd too

Horrendous, underage drinking, terrible establishment. Liars to make a buck, terrible staff . Don’t stop positing things about their parcels being nicked on Facebook lol Go else where

Used to be good but has gone severely downhill. It is always empty til really late on a Friday night/ Saturday night. My boyfriend got a Moretti and it was sour so he asked for something else within the first sip. He instead got an Amstel which then made him feel sick despite only having 2 sips of beer. The bartender said he would check the pipes but it was clear the lines had not been cleaned properly. They were nice enough to let him have his next drink for free but it would be more beneficial to teach the staff basic bar hygiene before they cause medical problems with their punters. Much like my partner who woke up with a major stomach ache and nausea. They’re lucky to not get sued

Used to go there all the time.now a little less. If you under 30 years old, it's a good place Great music, nice atmosphere, people usually are friendly. If you over 30 like me. You can still go. Nobody gonna judge you, but you will not find a lot o people the same age. But the young ones still gonna respect you. So you will still enjoy a nice night out, especially if u have your little group

Bit of a shame to be served in paper cups

One of the worst pubs I have personally been to. Overpriced drinks and rude staff. Especially the female, blonde bartender. When I tried to order she asked me for my id, after I showed it to her she started to yell at me to get my friends to also who her their ids. I told them but they were busy taking off their jackets. As soon as I turn back around she started to yell at me again for their ids. Rude, nonhospitable and absolutely unprofessional. After that experience myself and my party ended up leaving in the first couple of minutes of entering.

The security is A * Manager has a really tough job. Strict but rightly so. Both manager and security threw a problem group out and made sure we got home safe. Safe, decent pub

Kids running a bar, it's shocking tbh and a shambles. I wiped my feet on my way out...... no ice, glasses feel like there coated in a lube lol...toilets are caked in flies and when I mean caked I mean a yellow white ceiling is black from the amount....we was served by a very young lady that ain't got any people skills.... once we asked for a drink to be replaced she said you need to pay again even tho the glass was caked in slime causing it to slide lut our hands... sje then walks off laughing to her mates. AVOID IN FACT GO HERE JUST TO EXPERIENCE IT ITS SHOCKING

Friendly staff and quick service and a good atmosphere would go again

Staff is lovely place is nice, lady at security is incredibly rude and condescending place worth visiting if she's not around

Very young customers. Real shame to have such a striking building be turned into this. The drinks were good but expensive.

Personally I couldnt recommend going here. Bar staff were friendly but whole place is a dive, think I will avoid in the future!

Very friendly and welcoming public house. The historic building is wonderful and very tastefully decorated. Great music and great staff. A must visit.

Music pub in the middle of Stortford Listed building

Dont rate this place at all, the bouncers are really rude and arrogant. Plus I'm sure your not supposed to be drinking alcohol whilst manning a door to a club🤔 makes you wonder if any of them have licences, probably dont!!

Had a wicked time. 1st tme been out in ages. I think i might of been the oldest one there. But everyone was really nice and one of the boncers looked after my coat for the night. Had a good time. 👍

Amazing night out with the girls, was a long wait to get in but well worth the wait!

Nice place a bit loud so your ears will be ringing but always have a good time.

The food is pretty good, but the place itself could use some maintenance. The outside garden is dirty, full of spyder webs and water leaks.

Black lion is really great a popping place for Friday nights the staff are really friendly - particularly the Irish one Elliott

Dank, smells, shabby, rude staff.

Heating outside and some cover. The shots menu is huge, the staff are all polite and fun and the drinks are great. I have heard things about being spiked etc but I've only been since lockdown when it's been quieter so my experience has been fine.
