Definitely best coffee in the area! Why go to Starbucks when this is by the station? It's got walls covered with dog pictures - simply adorable. Sad to read another review about the owner not being very nice, since the staff are lovely.

I often frequent the Black Lab as the coffee and staff are great. Recently I have noticed that staff had been coming and going and I had wondered why, as they always seemed so happy serving me. Over the last few weeks I have picked up on moments where the owner I believe (slender man dark hair) has been rude and patronising to his staff. As I am not one for confrontation I did not say anything, however I only wish he sees this and takes note. As in a small business like his, the business can only continue to succeed if the people working there are enjoying themselves. Especially in the case of The Black lab as the staff really do make the business.

Best coffee in Clapham - in my opinion Nice toasties too and great service from Veronica and Olivia Outside space far enough away from traffic so as not to disturb and view of the Common

Ordered a chicken and chorzio toastie and they gave me the wrong order and it tasted horrible. Also had to wait ages for the food.

Good pain au chocolat (look and taste), very average coffee, cleanliness that leaves a lot to be desired, the place needs a very thorough scrubbing, unfriendly waiter (we are not regular) and, unless you really really love dogs, don't go at 08:00 on a Saturday.

Warm friendly welcome from the moment we walked through the door to the time we left! Busy, popular cafe. Coffee simply divine. Bacon toastie on sourdough cooked to crispy perfection and just what we asked for. Well worth a visit.

Excellent coffee. They regularly change the beans in use and generally have two options to choose from. Also do good sandwiches, cakes and pastries.

In a sea of mediocre flat whites, this place still gives attention to detail on every coffee - and if that's your coffee, that’s good news! There is the omnipresent La Marzocco coffee machine. The coffee is not made by any / someone / the nearest latest newest cheapest hire from somewhere in the EU, but is made by the owner-manager. They also place great emphasis on the coffee being 100% Arabica, so the coffee is smooth and powerful. If you want some Robusta in your (cheap) coffee bean blend, go to one of the cafés run by one of our continental friends, of which there are many. Excellent range of nice interesting cakes and loafs. If you want a good coffee of the North side of the Common, this is the place. Comfortable padded benches to settle down onto.

Found myself with half an hour to kill first thing in the morning. Found this gem of a coffee house and very happy I did! They know their coffee and made me a beautiful flat white and their smoked salmon bagel really hit the spot, chilli flakes made all the difference!

My owner and I often walk past the Black Lab and I always dig my heels in and try to get him to buy himself a cup of coffee, mainly because the nice staff always give me a doggy treat. I love doggy treats and therefore I love the staff too. My owner seems to enjoy his coffees here a lot so I feel I'm doing him a favour. Occasionally he'll have a cakey thing that looks damn good too. Anyway, I'm only writing this review cos next time I turn up, I want more doggie treats.

Met a friend here yesterday for a quick coffee. The latte was excellent and the cake was good too. Very welcoming atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and will be back.

Probably serving the best coffee in SW London. Always consistent, great selection of single origin coffee, filter & decaf. Delicious sandwiches and cakes, my favourite is the warm banana bread with a coffee on the side. Lovely friendly atmosphere.

As I live round the corner I just walked in & ordered a bacon, sausage, egg & mushroom toasted sandwich/bloomer to take away. A few mins later when I returned home I will say it was "absolutely & incredibly cooked, sliced, layered & presented to perfection". A non branded local cafe serving great breakfasts using quality products. Overall compared to other cafes it wasn't a breakfast toasted sandwich that was just thrown together.

This little cafe is in a side street opposite the tube station. Unpretentious, with great coffee and excellent cake. What more could you want
