This is what pubs used to be. Good beer, well kept, and a landlady who has stamped her personality on the pub, and who knows that many people like a drink and maybe a meal in a proper bar with no kids in it. If you think a bar is a suitable environment for your children, this is not the pub for you. If you like a proper country pub with a landlady who gives you a genuine personal welcome rather than a chain pub with a manager and staff trained to greet you following a script, this is the place for you.

Nunca decepcionado. Comida siempre fresca y bien cocinada. Servicio atento. Las instalaciones son pequeñas, lo que se suma a su encanto. Menú limitado.

A tranquil oasis in very pretty countryside. Two bars, one mid size, one small, both with good relaxing ambience. Thankfully it hasn't like Cromwell's castles, been 'knocked around a bit.' A larger room is available for parties. Changing menu of delicious options. Wash it down with a glass of Dover Beck real ale, made in the mini brewery in the back yard! No children policy. Have real money in your pocket, no facility for credit cards.

Great atmosphere, great people, great food. We are to have this pub to go to. It is rare to find a traditional pub where it is all about the food, drink and ambience.

Dropped in to this lovely little pub on Sunday afternoon around 3pm. Unfortunately, we'd missed food servery but decided to have a drink. The car park is more than adequate and the bar is small and cosy but also airy on a warm afternoon. One of our party was getting the round it but wanted to pay by card, which are not accepted. Unsurprising really when you consider the bar doesn't even have a till, just a biscuit tin and a plate. So I stepped up to the plate. (the old "I don't carry cash ploy hay?) The clientele comprised mainly of local people of mature years, who were also very welcoming as was the lady serving behind the bar, who I later discovered was the landlady. The place was also spotlessly clean and took me back to an era where "Mine Host" would always be on hand if not serving. The rules reflected the wishes of the patrons rather than the masses. In this case, dogs? Yes; children? No! It was a pleasure to go into a pub on a Sunday afternoon that wasn't the commercial cash cow of a multi national conglomerate whose aim was simply to extract as much cash from your wallet. I will look forward to dropping in again.

I stopped here midway round a rather long bike trip. The staff were extremely friendly, despite the arrival of a rather scruffy cyclist right at the end of food service. I was curious about what the food would be like, as I appeared to be the youngest customer by around thirty years, but I was very pleasantly surprised by a very nice piece of pan fried fish and some crispy chips. The only downsides would be that the menu is a little limited (not a surprise given the size of the kitchen) and that they don't take card payments. Not having any children myself it was a pleasant change not to be surrounded by other peoples. If I pass by again I would happily return.

We called into this pub for a lunchtime meal. This is a traditional pub but it also has it's own brewery. The very friendly and helpful person behind the bar offered me a taste of the beer without me asking and was very willing to advise on the menu . Both the food and the beer were of a high quality and I can definitely recommend a visit.

my annual visit to a friends' lunch at the end of the game season. as ever pleasant cottagey surroundings with the redoubtable Sharon presiding discreetly and effectively, well cooked game and veg washed down with a solid Chilean red wine. Quintessentially English inn in small village. No concession to modernity.Ladies can choose outside or inside facilities, Gents walk to mid-car park but clean facility but can negotiate for universal indoors accessible. No children's playground - thus no children. In my youth none of us were allowed in until 16 years old.

Thank goodness standards are being preserved. Fancy bringing children into an old mans' pub. Excellent beer except when they've run out, at which point the staff can get very lively (and a little abusive). Do not offend Jo who generally works in the kitchen, but when she gets behind the bar you realise that she hasn't actually been to Swiss finishing school.

We dropped in here hoping to enjoy some drinks and lunch on a Saturday whilst walking in the local area. We were 'welcomed' by a member of staff who quickly ushered us away from the main bar area and into a separate room as they apparently have a policy of not allowing children in their pub. This separate room didn't have any heating on and wasn't the warm welcome we were hoping for! We then read their menu which stated 'We do not accept credit cards, debit cards or children' and as we weren't carrying much cash, we couldn't sample the food on offer. It seemed like an odd and unwelcoming pub, perhaps reserved for its more local and older regulars. We would recommend trying The Old Volunteer which is about half a mile down the road from here which has provided us with much more enjoyable experience in the past!

No music, no jukebox, no children. Good beer and occasional abuse from the staff makes for a good atmosphere.

Fantastic little pub with a good selection of drinks. Frequent rotation of craft beer, generally local breweries as well as the usual Beavertown etc. good choice of spirits also. Be sure to sign up to the Rewards Scheme too. Small selection of food available for very good prices. The nachos is a favourite and frequent selection for me. Pub is dog friendly, so often a couple in there but all well behaved. There is a small outdoor area available also.
