The Black Horse in Ipswich

An old haunt of mine for many years, the current owners are maintaining a fine tradition of good music, fine ale, great service and a friendly, dog allowed atmosphere. I heartily recommend

Not eaten there. Usually go before football

Before the Ipswich-Sunderland match we were sent in here by a passer-by. "A good pub for away supporters". This turned out to be a myth, because there were only Ipswich fans, but we were able to enter without any problems and create a corner (10 people). We arrived well before the match (approx. 3.5 hours) and music was good and nice noise level. Unfortunately, from about 2 hours before the match this became much harder and therefore less pleasant. You had to shout to hear each other. Service good and fast. Great pre-match pub.

Great little pub in the middle of Ipswich. Quick service even though it was busy, and a great selection of drinks to be had. Advertised the football being shown too over the weekend. Definitely recommend.

Been here a couple of times, on match days - A proper pub, served by some really friendly people - I'll make sure to visit on a weekend and get a pie and some live music !

Very lively. Went to see a band. The atmosphere was great and everyone was very welcoming.

There for a friend's gig, nice garden, pool and friendly environment. Typical pub.

First visit with my partner. Quiet Thurs afternoon.. Lovely pub,, tons of atmosphere. The pies are wonderful. So impressed with the variety, Staff friendly and pleasant. You can park nearby or meters outside. Has some paranormal activity which is always interesting to hear about. Live Bands at week ends but music playing today was just my taste aswell.

Fabulous Pub, Well worth a visit. Great pints of Ghost Ship we also enjoyed. Lovely staff too.

Great 5mins walk from football ground, plenty of choice in drinks,food a little choice,a great garden,Staff good,Landlady very good.

Good Cidre Good Atmosphere Meeting up before the Match

Went on a Monday night, was nice and quiet played a few games of pool and drank a few pints, friendly service.

Friendly down to earth old fashioned pub. Not pretentious. Good variety of drinks. Live bands to suit all tastes. My kind of place.

Surprisingly empty of tables and people, but it was only opening time. Historic location, deserves to begin to thrive again, with food as well as drink I hope one day.

Friendly staff. Old regulars boycotted the place after new management did their own thing,but are seeing sense and comming back now. As am I.Good variety of entertainment nowadays , not the same old thing all the time.

Very busy pre-football but they did a good job of handling the queues as well as possible. Nice outdoor seating area and the covered area was very handy for the regular rain showers!

I Enjoy music gigs in The Blackhorse, they have changed hands, new management better set up, got a Marquee for outdoor social distancing entertainment bar staff do well despite Covid restrictions,booking table system in place, tables of 6 or 2 👍 can still enjoy main pub not just outside

They nailed it! We were taken to over our table, given clear instructions, had hand sanitizer available on the table, everything was clear regards social distancing, table service was perfect. You made us feel safe.

Bikers pub where everyone knows everyone. If your not a regular you'll stand out and feel awkward. Went in to see a rock band but left as it was a bit overwhelming not for youngsters. However music was good and drink prices good

Nice venue to play in. Really cosy and good seating outside. Drinks are priced as you’d expect but the atmosphere is very much preferable to me. It’s a metaller pub so I fit right in.

Regularly visit the Black Horse Inn on an Ipswich Town match day. Close to the football ground provides good atmosphere. It tends to get packed inside but plenty of room outdoors with seating.

Good place for a few pints before a football match. Though game days are crowded, it's a lively pub where the Ipswich fans are likely to show their generosity with a pint...or 5. Good service, friendly folks. Good time

Called in here to eat as there seems to be a lack of anywhere to eat in Ipswich, very pleasant pub but they only serve food on Tuesdays and before football matches. Very odd as there are several signs outside saying Home Cooked Food!!

Great pub for live music and beer. This is how I remember pubs being many years ago, and I say that as a compliment. I've never had a bad night out at The Black Horse.

Final pub on an evening out - well used to be a regular here some years ago - Old beamed pub - and it was Karaoke - not everyones cup of tea but after a few drinks was a lotof fun. Pub felt friendly and full of locals ( not always a recommendation ) but the mix was such that it was a very nice comfortable atmosphere. Service swift and prices good. Give it a try.
