Had a lovely evening with a log fire, excellent fish & chip & good company. The owners couldn't do enough for us made us feel so welcomed. Eaten here a few times & have never been dissapointed. Looking forward to our next visit.

Very, very nice fish and chips indeed! The pub only serves this on Fridays but very well done. Book early.

Well we booked after sampling many of Nigel's tasters over the last months of many visits to the Pub. The Indian (Goanese) meal we had on the Saturday evening was exceptional in terms of attention to detail / flavours & quality. We are originally from the "curry capital in Yorkshire " the dishes provided , including vegetarian were cooked to perfection and would certainly have given curry restaurants we have visited over the years a serious run for the money. This is a "must " visit & booking is essential. Everyone is made welcome by Nigel & Eugenie. The other table had fish & chips - the fish fell over the plate ! Thanks for an excellent night with enjoyable company to boot & cask ales!

I was impressed by the fact that, even though they stopped serving meals at 2, they were still prepared to accommodate us after that time. However, the menu choice was limited - ploughman's or ploughman's. We chose to sit round the back in what I assumed was the garden/patio area. Table choice was rather limited, as the pub cat occupied one of them. After choosing one of the other 3 tables, I managed to open out the filthy, mildewed parasol after a short struggle. We were not kept waiting too long for the meal, but that was the only positive. The potato salad was warm, as if it had been left out in the sun, or the fridge had thrown in the towel. We should have done! I'm sure the lettuce was fresh, once upon a time, the tomatoes were tasteless and the bread was stale. During the whole dining experience, we were peered at through the window by the person I assume was the landlord. To be fair, it could have been out of a genuine concern for our health and welfare. However, as I was paying at the bar for the experience, he made a rude and unpleasant comment about my partner's boys, presumably because they would not provide him with a positive comment about the offerings he had served up. In fact, they made no comment at all, as, being the people that they are, they wouldn't have wanted to hurt his feelings. To sum up: a musty, mildewed, tasteless, stale and unpleasant experience. We will visit Old Bolingbroke again. We will avoid the Black Horse at all costs!

As long as you book (sometimes you might get lucky if you don't) you can expect a truly great home-cooked meal with all fresh ingredients. Friday nights the fish and chips are the best you can get and Saturday nights there might be a menu. If Nigel cooks an indian for you it will be as good as you can get outside India and his paella last night was exceptionally good. This is a proper village pub with two or three real ales on tap and it is definitely not a restaurant but a place that sells beer with exceptional food some nights.

THE place to go for Indian cuisine. Food is freshly cooked using local, organic produce. Excellent venue for vegetarians and vegans. Proprietors will cater for all dietary needs. Lovely to sit in a traditional pub with a blazing log fire, eating tasty food and paying a reasonable amount for doing so.

A roaring fire in the grate, a cosy atmosphere and a very warm welcome from friendly hosts in this traditional14th century pub. We were a party of eight and the menu was a special St. David's day welsh- themed three course meal. Three choices per course, wonderful food, excellent value for money. Service excellent, waiting staff knew exactly when to bring food, when to clear away, and when to bring the next course, ensuring a convivial evening.

Visit to the seaside wanted fish and chips, as I'm gluten free I usually struggle. Not here have gluten free on the menu, also curry sauce. We both had regular fish and chips, mine was wrapped separately from husbands as he had normal.Great portions glad we didn't go for the large.

Had a couple of roasts today which came with free desserts. Meal was lovely, fresh, hot, just what you expect. We was really happy with that.....but....half an hour after leaving we realised we had left a bag behind. Money, cards, car keys, medication, all stuff hard to replace when on holiday. We returned to the Windsor and the lady who was serving, cleaning etc said she saw the bag as soon as we left, so put it safe behind the counter. Panic over. We can't thank you enough xxx

Can't begin to say how bad this pub was, miserable landlady and landlord and the worst food I have ever not eaten. I say not eaten as we didn't get through even a quarter of the plate of awful food we were offered. My husband said the beer was okay but please don't bother with the food it REALLY ISNT WORTH IT.

We went specifically to this venue for breakfast. We ordered different breakfasts and made some changes to one of them with the helpful counter staff. The tea in the tea pot was cold and we took it back for a replacement hot tea pot. The breakfast was brought to us by a member of staff who did not smile or speak. Having ordered extra well done bacon we were surprised to note that it certainly hadn't been even well done. The plates were cold and so was half of the breakfast, the rest of it cooling rapidly. The toast and prepacked butter were placed on the top of the breakfast and we had to use our fingers to try and get them off the top, even though there was nowhere to put them (have they never heard of side plates)? All in all, very poor. Customer care is clearly not a priority.

Visited here yesterday as we have done many times previously and i was on my VERY SMALL electric scooter (ES). It was quite busy but not full as it is fairly small inside. Myself and my scooter took up the same amount of sitting on the chair as i was situated so i didn't need to use their chair and if on a large bike this would not have been possible. However a young girl asked if i could leave my ES outside and walk in which i could not as not able to do so. I replied we have been in there previously and had never been an issue but she said the couldn't allow it when they were busy. I would not have gone in if i was going to cause an issue or restrict any of the pathways and so i felt i had to leave, which we did. However there was 3 tables occupied by approx 12 men who were blocking pathways and not eating anything and were loudly talking to each other across the tables who were who were quite clearly obstructive but seemingly that was ok !!! I am disgusted in this day and age that such discrimination persists and i will not use them again. Perhaps they need to add a sign to the windows stating people with mobility aids would not be allowed in busy periods. Totally Disgusted. LInda Halls
