The best cooked breakfast ive had in a very long time every was very good quality and all fresh lovely staff and lovely place definitely be visiting again

Have been in many times, with friends and family. We walk from South Bank to Hessle and this tea room is ideally located midway. Always great food and service. Amazing cakes! One of my favourite tea rooms!

Great service and full to the brim on a weekday. Ellie kindly let me have the last table even though there were reservations. Very top notch, friendly and efficient service. Brown bread for toast an added bonus. Food excellent, atmosphere great and lovely cat pictures everywhere. The staff were amazing, Ellie is an absolute natural. Highly recommended but booking is advisable, which speaks for itself.

The breakfast here at Black Cat is better than those I have recently eaten at 4 star Doxford Hall in Northumberland. Great location. Nice food. Friendly staff. Very popular.

Visited with friends for a pre-'big birthday' Afternoon Tea. Food and drinks were delicious, service attentive and ambience relaxed and friendly. They also catered for one of my friends with a nut allergy and checked her requirements both before and during our visit., which was reassuring. We could not quite finish all of our Afternoon Tea offerings, but the staff kindly offered us a box to take home our leftovers for later. All in all, was a lovely afternoon- would definitely recommend.

Had the most amazing Afternoon Tea the sandwiches , cakes , scones with jam and clotted cream where to die for. Had many in my time but this was one of the best. Congratulations to the owners and staff of making it such a fantastic experience. We’ll done to all.

When taking an elderly lady who has poor mobility out for lunch and having called in advance to ask if we are welcome at 15.15 I did not expect at 16.00 to be stood over and more or less to be told to move as the chair’s needed to go inside. Not very business like. Won’t be returning.

We stopped by one day for lunch and was so full we returned a few days later to try the cakes. Slightly expensive with lots of staff dwindling about in the background which we found a bit random but the staff that did serve where nice enough. I'd say what really let's it down is the greasey smell, I'm not veggie but I personally found it overpowered everything else and was a bit off putting, more so on our second visit when we had coffee and sweet cakes.

Highly recommend the black cat tearoom, very accommodating to my diet as I have coeliac…. very fast service and lovely chat with the waitresses who did not bother us when eating like some places do and make you feel rushed. Will definitely be back again soon to try the delicious cakes we saw but didn’t have room for.

This cafe is a little gem and a must to try if you’re in Hessle. The food is good quality, well presented and great value. Can’t fault the place and especially the brilliant staff who delight in giving you excellent service and some nice “banter”. Always a warm friendly welcome.

I can not recommend this place enough. The staff were so polite and helpful and extremely welcoming. The food was absolutely incredible. You can tell it’s all the best and freshest ingredients. Honestly the best full english I’ve ever had. The servings are amazing. I’ll definitely be back again.

Food hygiene 3 commentator. Items requiring attention: Food prep staff x2 not wearing mandatory hair nets and wearing jewellery and outside clothing as well as no overall for personal safety. As to the food, this was slow considering the number of covers. Cooked breakfast left too long before delivery so two items cold. Sausages were quite tough and difficult to cut, tinned toms were delivered but expected fresh as menu doesn't make this clear. pre-buttered toast without asking results in a leathery texture and is quite unpleasant and was cold on delivery. A few simple changes would make for a better experience although smoke fumes blowing in from the patio area was inexcusable and could result in a sanction. hopefully the manager can act on these valid observations but we fully expect a vitriolic response given other review reactions

The staff were delightful and the food was wonderful. We had the sausage and bacon rolls with tea from a pot and they did not hold back on the tea bags in the pot.

We had an excellent breakfast with good local products , we were served quickly and the food was cooked while we waited , no warming pre cooked food in the microwave , we had a pot of tea from which we got 3 cups each , the cafe has a lovely atmosphere and all the staff seemed to be happy , will definitely return

I visit Black Cat regularly and I cannot speak highly enough on the friendly efficient staff. The cafe itself is exceptionally clean, nicely decorated and has a lovely ambiance. Now to the food, everything is cooked to order is beautifully presented and good value for money.

We had a lovely meal at the Black Cat today. We were a large group, so we gave our orders before arriving. They had everything ready for us just after we arrived. The food was delicious, I couldn’t resist a cake for pudding and wasn’t disappointed! Thank you for a lovely lunch. I’ll definitely be back!

The owner was lovely, he made us feel very welcome. We had travelled from Devon to meet family in Hessle. I called for a mid-week snack with my Granddaughter. We sat at a table outside (in front of the closed take-away next door). We both chose a scone with jam and cream, I had a cup of tea and my Granddaughter had a Fruit Shoot. The scones were lovely and tasty and it was a perfect treat. Even better that it was half price thanks to the Chancellor (Eat out to Help out), so less than £5 in total. It is table service at present and the card machine was brought outside for payment so we did not have to go inside at all.It was so busy that customers were being turned away if they were not prepared to wait.We will definitely return!

The Black Cat is only open for take-away food at present due to Covid 19. I had seen a sign in the window advertising take-away afternoon teas for £11 per person. We live locally and it sounded like a good idea so ordered tea for 2 on a Saturday afternoon. My husband collected it. It was all packed into a large cardboard cake box so was a bit flimsy to carry. When I unpacked it the sandwiches were wrapped in cling film, and salad & crisps were loose in the box so some of the crisps were a bit damp. There were also 2 large slices of cake, 2 scones, a pot of jam, a pot of clotted cream and a pot of coleslaw. 1 slice of cake was a little wet at one end (from the loose salad). There were 4 individual finger sandwiches each; ham, egg mayo, grated cheese & chutney and tuna mayo & cucumber. Crisps were salt & vinegar (which I hate and I did not think were quite appropriate with afternoon tea). The scones were a good size and nice & fresh. The cake was a lovely and moist sandwich cake (a slice of coffee cake and a slice of lemon cake). I had the lemon cake as I dislike coffee, and it was scrumptious. The scones were lovely and tasty too. We managed it all in one sitting as we had not eaten since breakfast time.It was a really wlecome weekend treat to have in the garden on a nice sunny day. I did feel that the salad needed to be in a separate container though and not loose in the box.

This was my first visit to the Black Cat and it won't be my last. I had afternoon tea with my mum today and it was lovely. As we booked in advance they kindly baked the scones without fruit for us both. Everything was freshly prepared and the staff were on the ball despite being incredibly busy. Given it was Monday afternoon I expected it to be quiet but it was full which just shows how good this place is.

We visited The Black Cat tea room today with my 2 sisters and niece. We all had afternoon tea and Wowzers we wasn’t disappointed. Everything was delicious from the freshly made sandwiches to the slice of homemade cake and scone. The staff were so polite and couldn’t do enough for us even when I dropped my tea all over the table it was cleared up immediately and fresh tea was brought over. I would definitely be returning to this little gem.

well, I was recommend this via a work colleague, so we decided to got for afternoon tea, for mother in laws birthday treat, she has a sweet tooth. well well worth the 12.95 each. each person is served two rounds of sandwiches which you can choose from a choice of 4, a scone, and and choose the cake you want, and of course a big pot of yorkshire tea

Lovely little Cafe located in Hessle. We visited for the first time on Saturday lunchtime. The Cafe was rather busy as you'd expect at that time of day but we were greeted by a lovely smile and shown to a table.

This cafe really impressed me as I noticed there are plenty of staff and each one seemed to be focused on their own jobs working without the need for supervision. The cafe is warm and friendly and the coffee and food is very good and served quickly despite the place being quite busy.Well done to the staff and proprietor.

This was a return visit. I met a friend for lunch with my 4 year old granddaughter in tow. It was an extremely hot day so we sat as close to the air conditioner unit as possible! We quickly ordered our drinks and spent a little time perusing the menu and specials board. My granddaughter chose beans on toast (with strict instructions that the beans must be on the side and not on top). I had a (local butcher’s) sausage butty and my friend chose quiche and salad from the specials board. All arrived fairly quickly (and beans served exactly as requested). My sausage sandwich was really tasty and my friend said her quiche was excellent. The beans on toast was rapidly demolished which speaks for itself!

Ive been quite a regular at this cafe since it openeed, i must have been at least once a week. The service is always friendly with a smile. The owners are always happy to stop and have a chat with us which helps add that extra little personal touch. The breakfast is great with locally sourced Sausages and bacon with fresh mushrooms and perfectly fried eggs and runny yolks. I havent got much of a sweet tooth but the wife is always eager to finish off with one of there freshly homemade cakes and they never disappoint. I would recommend this cafe to everybody.

Met friends for lunch. The noise level is the first thing that hits you when you walk it echoes. The cafe was very full you could hardly hear yourself speak above the chatter of the customers. We were served very quickly by a very friendly waitress quite quickly. We ordered coffee and sandwiches from a varied menu all very reasonably priced we all enjoyed the food. It’s not a chilled out relaxing lunch place quite the opposite but the food was good and the cafe was friendly.

Went today to meet a friend for lunch, the acoustics were very poor, it was extremely noisy with just a normal level of chatter. It was a very warm day so we ordered coffee and took it to one of the outdoor tables. I have eaten here before and the food is very good, but I met my friend for a catch up and inside you could hardly hear. We drank our coffee which was very nice and left. Would not come back, not a relaxing experience.

Enjoyed a light lunch and some delicious cake with friends. The menu offers something for everyone. The dining area is spacious enough for people with prams and the staff are extremely helpful. This was our first visit and certainly won’t be out last. Thank you.

We are regular visitors and came for a meal. It was excellent as usual. But the offish manner at the pay desk and refusal to put together loyalty stamps on thee separate cards onto one card and being asked if we were regular visitors when we blatantly are rather spoiled the experience hence the average review. We visit many cafes and have NEVER had this attitude at any other! Not good PR!

We had been shopping in area my wife recommend from previous visits to go to for lunch. We had coffee her having the quiche with salad. I had bacon in roll with ample bacon. The second course consisted of a scone with cream and jam. I had sponge cake and custard. We received an attentive service. The cafe played some good music which had me tapping away. Highly recommended

Myself and my wife eat here at least twice e a week and I have to defend the staff re the review below. We often sit alongside the counter and open kitchen and there are no hygiene issues at all. The white mice are always picked up with tongs which I have witnessed many, many times. If any mice are left by customers then they are handled as they are then placed in the bin. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is lively and friendly with great staff and great ambience. It does get busy as a result and you may need to book at lunchtimes.

My Mun and I visit once a week for breakfast and we cannot fault the food and service. Yummy food, fab home-made cakes and service with a smile. The white mouse given out with each drink is a lovely touch too. 😊

The Black Cat in Hessle is a lovely family run cafe. Friendly and smey staff. Cakes are to die for. Very pleasent surroundings to havve a girlie chat with my friend.

It is a busy cafe so you would expect the food to be excellent. Food is good, just on one occasion they were really busy and my scrambled egg was overcooked. Service very slow when it gets busy.

Two visits in quick succession during February and both were as perfect as they could possibly be. The breakfasts served here are simply the best and the little white chocolate mouse served with the tea is a follow-up delight...providing you remember to keep it away from the hot cup.

I visited one mid-week lunchtime with friends and a child. We ordered hot drinks to start which come with a white chocolate mouse which is a nice touch. We then ordered a variety of different meals, beans on toast, sausage sandwich (with butcher’s sausages from the nearby Gary Alden butcher), quiche with salad, etc. All were well presented and tasty. My sausage sandwich was GORGEOUS! It was busy, fortunately we had booked our table!

First time at the Black Cat, booked a table as it was lunchtime. Brilliant atmosphere, chattering, laughing general buzz. Plenty of choice for light lunch, very reasonably priced food and of course CAKES !!!. I didn't give in and try a piece of cake but £ of my friends did and the result was a resounding YUMMY. Not forgetting the very pleasant staff, this is another one on my list.

Yet again we visited the Black Cat, this time with friends. We chose to meet here because we have NEVER ever been disappointed. The food, service, and ambience has never failed to satisfy, so we knew we would be well looked after, as always.
