My friend and I had a Sunday roast dinner at the Black Bull. The food was excellent. We had the roast lamb, it was accompanied by plenty of vegetables with roast potatoes. The only negative for us was the noise, it was difficult to talk to each other.

A decent pub, food good, friendly. Northerner friendly as John Smith's is one of the beers

Food is good. Garden is amazing. Service is mostly wonderful. Prices are like you're in central, though.

The Pub staff make you feel very welcome.. it's a good place to watch live sports . Is very popular for a Sunday roast. And public transport the bus stops right outside 👍

The manager had barred me over an argument that happened outside the pub. They said i could return in six weeks, after 2 months i returned and was told to finish my drink and get out. I was respectful and on my way out just simply asked for a reasoning. I was spoke to awfully by the older irish man and was not given a simple reason, when asking can i just have an explaination he just continued to be rude and walked off. Incredibly rude and unfair. Especially as on this occasion the other people involved were not barred. Rude and disrespectful especially when i was speaking calmly with respect. A nice sunday with old friends ruined with no explanation.

Absolute joke of an establishment. Me and my brother were denied entry specifically because we didn't have women with us..... Ridiculous... I will never come here again, don't waste your time with this nonsense

They refused to host us (group of 8 people) as it was overcrowded, and behind us, there was a group of over 10 people that was welcomed. Disgraceful.

A friendly place. Perfect for getting together with friends and family. I went last Saturday and it was incredible. In addition to the atmosphere, delicious food with an incredible flavor. I loved being here and I plan to come back more often

I decided to try this local pub for Sunday lunch- I had the roast lamb. The lamb was ok- the gravy was not great. The carrots were mushy and the green beans were full of water and tasteless. I got 2 roast potatoes and the whole plate of food was smothered in beef gravy. It tasted like vacuum packed generic prepackaged food.The red cabbage was sloppy and the suede mash was watery and inedible. I have to say that I was incredibly disappointed. It was not even about the money- I am a regular restaurant visitor to local restaurants- especially on a Sunday and always try to support local businesses- but when the food is disappointing I feel obliged to say.

I will never be able to go there again.

My 2nd visit for a superb delicious roast- this pub is amazing- staff amazing - ambiance amazing - proper family pub with great service - nicest staff I have come across - friendly- hospitality great - this is going to be a regular for me highly recommend the roast delicious- I had roast beef- keep this one a secret !!

Came To this Pub for the very first time with my two cousins and out pet dog. I can't say enough about this place. Amazing food, amazing service and a fantastic ambiance. Everyone from the bartenders to the servers to the bus boys. We want to give a BIG shoutout to the young man, Johnny who went above and beyond for us. Also to Larry who was collecting empty dishes. Will definitely come to the place again. One of the best Pubs I have ever been to. Thank you all! 🙏💜🙏

Attitude of bar staff leaves a lot to be desired. One barman in particular with a very arrogant attitude when asked where to order food. Decided not to eat there and left after one drink. Will not be going back to eat or drink

Just had a pub Sunday lunch , such good value for money. Table of 11 with some fussy ones , all requests met and all food arrived hot and correct . Great size portions friendly staff and lovely home cooked meal .

Popped in for a pint whilst passing through the area. Was only there for one but it was a great pint. The pub is clean, inviting and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Good size pub with a beautifully laid out garden. Seems there’s something for everyone. Didn’t eat but saw others tucking in and it looked appetising.

Great local pub with good atmosphere and good Guiness

We ate at this place during a holiday weekend, we were staying in the nearby hotel. Excellent food and a very nice and decorated environment for the Christmas holidays. Friendly and welcoming staff.. Too bad I only discovered it on the last evening.. Highly recommended!!

Was with my 7 year old, staff super friendly to him even though it took him literally 5 minutes to decide what to drink. I've been to The Black Bull quite a few times, and each time, I've always had a great meal. Would recommend to anyone to eat here.

Came in on Sunday for a roast and it really did not disappoint. The veg was cooked perfectly, there was loads of succulent lamb on the plate and the flavour was amazing. Staff were all helpful and polite. Would definitely recommend 👌 (pictures were taken after I'd already started eating).

I want to like this place, but Sunday lunch was incredibly dry. It came almost instantly so suspect it's just cooked in the morning. The garden and TV screens are great and some of the best in the area for sport, but outside of the venue, the quality is a bit mediocre for the price. A glass of red for instance was £8.50!

I recently visited the Black Bull, an Irish pub with my sister, and I wanted to share my experience. The pub had a charming ambiance that caught our attention, so we decided to stop in for a meal and a beer. However, my experience took an unexpected turn. As I was the designated driver for the day, I was interested in trying a zero-alcohol beer. Given the prominent Guinness signs and marketing throughout the pub, I inquired about the availability of zero-alcohol Guinness. To my surprise, the bartender informed me that they only had Heineken Zero in stock. I couldn't help but express my surprise, considering the significant promotion of zero-alcohol Guinness by the brand. The bartender's response caught me off guard as he pointed out that the Guinness signs didn't explicitly mention "zero" To add to the situation, another bartender chimed in, emphasizing his Irish heritage and stating that the Black Bull was an Irish pub that didn't serve what he referred to as "fairy beers." This comment was both unnecessary and humiliating, creating an uncomfortable moment for me and the other patrons. In light of this experience, I reluctantly ordered the Heineken Zero and decided it was best to leave. Unfortunately, I left the Black Bull feeling disappointed and somewhat embarrassed by the way I was treated. Regrettably, I won't be returning to the Black Bull in the future. Overall, while the Black Bull may have a visually appealing atmosphere, the lack of a more accommodating and respectful response to my simple request for a zero-alcohol Guinness left a sour taste in my mouth, both literally and figuratively.

Really nice beer garden and outdoor seating area with large screens! Friendly staff, and good food. It would even better if they could have some guest draught craft beers, maybe a few taps offering some other beer types from smaller breweries. Some more vegan food options would be a good addition!

Didn't eat, but may have had a lot of drinks! Barely remember getting home! But it was a good atmosphere and a live musician performing on guitar with backing tracks was enjoyable. First visit in many years and I used to live on Torcross road when I was a kid. So it's almost an old local! Will look to try the food next time.

Great food. Quiet for a Monday night.

I visited The Black Bull pub with my family and opted for the pleasant beer garden seating. We ordered two portions of chips with our drinks, but unfortunately, faced a significant delay. Despite waiting for 30 minutes, there was no sign of the chips. When I approached the waitress, who had just served another table, she seemed unaware of our order. She promised to check on it, but another 10 minutes passed without any update. Frustrated, I spoke to the staff member who took our order. He apologized for the delay, blaming it on a "ticket system issue." He assured me that our order would be prioritized. However, I was disappointed that the other waitress didn't follow up on our request. If I hadn't inquired, we might have waited even longer. It was disheartening to see tables that arrived after us receiving full Sunday roasts while we were given excuses about the ticketing system. When the chips finally arrived, it was only one portion. I reminded the waitress about our order, and she said she would fix it. Yet, another 15 minutes passed without any action. When I approached her again, she rudely claimed we had ordered only one portion and suggested I speak to the manager. This lack of communication was frustrating. I approached the management, but it took them 5 minutes to check the bill and confirm that we were charged for only one portion. No apologies were offered for the mix-up or the long wait. The responses from the management were dismissive and impolite. Despite the chips being enjoyable, the overall service was unacceptable. I won't be returning to this establishment and caution others about spending their hard-earned money here.

Honestly one of the loveliest pubs I've been to. Last time I visited was few months back before they finished the garden area. Now that I've sat In the finished garden I was not disappointed!! 10/10

I used to be a bit sceptical about this place but it seems to be under new friendlier management. The decor inside is now great, the beer garden is totally transformed, and the flowers outside are always stunning throughout the summer. Good air con inside. Staff are lovely and great with my kids, a real pleasure there now.

Top quality beer and selection of drinks and including quality service and customer service from John behind the bar. Nicely decorated and comfy with lovely bear garden outside with heating and fresh seating and huts. Definitely must visit.

We love this pub! I had my babies baptism party here a few weeks ago and the food was amazing! They also have some really good quality bands that’s play once a month! The atmosphere is great! Sunday lunch is also very good. :)

Food wasn’t good at I ordered burger, taste wise below average but price wise above average, I would say Mac Donald is better than this one, ordered soft drink which came it tiny bottle, it’s an absolute rip off. Only reason I am giving 2 star instead 1 is the interiors are good, but I don’t see a point.

Saturday night very busy ,we had a wait for the food but all my family liked the food so it was worth waiting for.

Lovely atmosphere. Nice halloumi burger and service. Our table had been left in a terrible state by the previous group. I wanted to clear it so a McDonald's style clearing station with space for trays and a bin could be a good addition.

Food was really good. Outside area now looks brilliant.

Nice ambience especially at the rear where the beer garden is. Not grassy yet the wooden sitting arrangement gives a rustic feel. If the Sun's out, it's a fab experience.

Very much a pub for regulars, even as a local to the pub I felt uncomfortable as I entered. Drinks are good and food has been good but with the atmosphere and the unfriendly staff it's easier to find somewhere nicer to drink. I won't rush back.

Friendly staff clean and comfortable

The Black bull is a good welcoming pub for everyone. The food is outstanding and the Sunday lunch is a huge amount of food for a very reasonable price. It tastes delicious. If you want to go out with your family there is a really cosy relaxed eating area away from the main bar. With space for buggies and small children to move around safely. The bar staff/ server's are always friendly, helpful and polite. I would definitely recommend the Black Bull.

I’m sorry to say, but if I’m being honest, the food wasn’t great at all. Calamari disappointed us the most, it tasted like nothing, cardboard would probably taste better.. at least there was some fresh salad on the side on the plus side. Service was good but tbf the food side not something id scream about if frozen cardboard is being served you need to have serious words with your chef ! Other than that not a bad pub but food drops your rating

Good size car park. Really friendly staff. Amazing plans for the garden which when completed will accommodate a lot of people. Deffo will be back. 😊👍

Worse and racist attitude witnessed by me

Their staff said it’s fine to take a puppy in on phone but when we went in the immediately said it isn’t possible for the dog to go in, that was my cousin’s birthday. How shameless and rude the manger could be with the worse attitude he could have had towards customers

Pizza I ordered come out Uncooked Asked for the Pizza to be cooked It was Sloppy, and not very nice. They took it back and below is the Pizza that come out. For the Second time.We asked to Speak to the Manager.Never bothered with us.

Racist towards Irish customer- refused to be served by staff stating only regular customers were allowed. I would have been a regular customer having BOUGHT into the area but will find elsewhere to go now! If you're Irish then don't bother with this place, they won't serve you!
