Nice pub with a nice atmosphere.

Nightmare to find, went to Richmond instead.

No food available but good choice of drinks with extremely friendly hosts and customers. Very clean, comfortable and dog friendly

Lovely welcoming pub that serves an excellent pint. Doesn't serve food. Fish and chip van visits on Thursdays

We went for Sunday lunch, 4 adults + baby. Where we sat we were very squeezed, not much space to even turn around. No facilities to change the baby. Waited for food quite a long time. Pork was very chewy. Then they forgot my desert. And when it came, it should be a cheesecake, it was runny thing in a pot, not set.

Got to be the friendliest pub we've ever been to, Niall and Elaine cannot do enough for you and all the regulars are really helpful with advice with what to do and places to go ,can't wait to see them all again

Friendly village pub serving a choice of real ales....

We played here tonight and what a lovely welcome we had ..we play darts for Hanson A and they even put a nice welcome above the bar thank you ..we did not expect any food because no were else does it even our pub..covid ?....Great bunch of lads thank you ..

Rarely do you come across a place like this that touches your heart. This pub is at the heart of a stunning village with incredible regulars who make it a dream to visit. I've never known such a welcoming place. It's been a real pleasure meeting a super bunch of people. They have left a lasting memory and I sincerely thank all of the regulars and Niall and Elaine for their incredible hospitality. I wish you all the very best with your future venutres. Excellent village pub. Great atmosphere, good selection of 'Real Ales,' and lagers. Such a friendly ambiance. "Mine Hosts' are the best you will find in any pub. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

A very clean with a good atmosphere pub, with pleasant staff

This is the best pub in the area. Niall and Elaine are superb hosts, and the locals make this a great pub to visit. My wife Jan and I have been visiting the pub every week for the last year and have been made to feel part of the pub family. They do not serve food but there is a Fish & Chip van visits every Thursday and you can eat your food in the pub while having a beer. What a great idea. !!

Great place, awesome atmosphere

There are good village pubs and cosy village pubs but are there ever any good, cosy, COOL village pubs? Well, yes. This place. Within five minutes of being in The Black Bull I knew I wanted to come back again. Niall, the landlord, is an absolute superstar and made us feel really welcome. He puts on loads of live music for the community, and even plays bass in the house band. We shall return!

Very friendly local. Provide wherewithal for fish'n'chips from van outside on Thursdays. Good beer

Visited the black bull inn whilst staying in a nearby cottage in the village. It was a Saturday night so knew it could be a little busier than normal. Realised it was the owners 1st year anniversary, so buffet and live music. When ordering drinks we wondered if we should stay being complete strangers to the owners and 'locals'. We were welcomed by everyone and even told to indulge in the buffet. Such a lovely atsmosphere and would definitely visit again. Only downfall would be no card payments - but is a small village and there is a card machine approx 10 min drive down the road so not too bad!

We called in to the Black Bull in Melsonby for a quiet drink in the sunshine. I was absolutely delighted when the landlady brought a little tray of nibbles for us to share. There were mini scotch eggs, nice cheese and pickled onions. That was such a nice old fashioned gesture and one that ensured they will certainly get our custom again.
