We visited for a meal during a recent stay in the area. A nice pub with character features but clean and modern inside. The staff were great and the food was very enjoyable. The scotch egg was a particular highlight. Our only gripe was that it was a bit noisy in the dining area due to one large group in particular but an enjoyable meal nonetheless.

Update: not been here for 3 years and still the most amazing food! Ten out of 5 stars. The food was ridiculously good! I highly recommend - the chef is a genius. Put it this way, I've never asked to have the salad wrapped to take home before . We had the tender steak and ale pie, creamy dauphinois potatoes & giant chunky chips and rocket with parmesan salad. Each element was absolutely fantastic. Giant portions too. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great pub- very welcoming staff..nice to have a beer with friends in a relaxed atmosphere. Chat with the locals and of course pet the many dogs that are welcomed into the pub. Food is quality. Scotch eggs are amazing along with the English staple of Bangers (sausage) and mash and steak & ale pie. Definitely recommend.

Great food as always! They cater well for coeliacs and nothing is too much trouble. As the food is all prepared fresh number of items on the day's menu can be amended. We had the beef brisket, horseradish mash and peppercorn sauce. Absolutely superb...even the carrots we a bit special!!

Great gastro pub, that doesn't have the same heavy feeling as pubs in London. The portions are very generous, and quite interesting as well: lamb is served with tomato sauce, and beef brisket is swimming in peppercorn sauce. Sticky toffee pudding is a pub staple, and it should be called "sticky toffee loaf" for the sheer size of it. The only thing I'm sorry about is that I didn't get to try the steak and ale pie. Looked delicious.

Food is of a different level. Absolutely lovely. I had the stuffed chicken, all I can say is wow, my partner had the steak pie. To call this pub grub is an injustice. Food is so much more. We thoroughly enjoyed everything that we ate. Staff were very polite, friendly and attentive. We'll definitely be back before we head home.

Nice pub with a good ale selection. Table of 3 all ordered the Rump Steak and all felt the cut was terrible, smelt funny and tough to eat. Harder to swallow the £28 price. Sides & dessert was ok. Overall wouldn’t go back here for food

Note: although it is advertised that the place serves food all day, not the case at least for bank holidays, no food served after 3pm. Had to go to another place that actually serves food all day. Outside info is not correct, many people like us went in and out straight away after being told that kitchen is closed and reopens at 6pm.

So lovely to have food very definitely prepared and cooked on site. My duck breast was perfect, my husband’s Barnsley chop slightly less so, but not enough to complain about. This was noticed as the plates were cleared, and with absolutely no prompting from us we were given a discount. We would certainly dine here again when in the area, and would recommend highly.

A single person lunchtime walk in, when all was busy between Christmas and New Year. From the moment I asked if they could accommodate me I was given top top service, friendly efficiency and the absolute best steak I have had in years, cooked exactly as I asked. Genuine conversations and genuine care. Completely packed with bubbling atmosphere it cheered me no end. Particularly as I was staying in a hotel same side of the road, more expensive and probably one of the worst meals and service I've had for a long time. Thank you Black Bear Inn you've nailed it!

We arranged with The Black Bear for a BBQ for 17 people at 7pm on a Monday evening. From the initial planning of menus, timings and numbers to the evening itself, we could not have asked for more from the team at The Black Bear. The food was fantastic, with home marinated meat, home-made burgers, locally sourced sausages and glorious salad and coleslaw, again home-made. Despite being in the middle of a busy service, the front of house team were very attentive, friendly and efficient, and Rich, who was cooking at the BBQ, made sure we were kept supplied with freshly cooked food. The fresh fruit salad to finish with was almost too much, but we finished that off too, very tasty! The whole team back in the office on the Tuesday morning were very complimentary about the experience, so much so, that we are already in talks to have our Christmas party at The Black Bear. I am looking forward to December already, thanks Black Bear!

Owner was incredibly rude. Despite there being plenty of free tables he called out “What do you want?” from the bar. No reserved signs on the tables and place was practically empty (had only started serving food 10 minutes ago). After telling him that we were looking for a table for 2, he waved his arms as if to shoo us away while telling us, “We are fully booked. No thank you, bye.” Very strange, dismissive and rude. Other staff also looked very lost and were just standing around together by the bar. Safe to say we have no plans of coming here again. Really disappointing.

My wife & I were exploring Moreton in Marsh on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 8, 2023 and fancied a brew. We chose The Black Bear Inn and were not disappointed. We received a warm welcome from staff the moment we stepped inside. Our pot of tea was good value for money - and a nice touch was the presence of shortbread biscuits (homemade if I recall correctly) on each saucer. These were also available to buy at the bar if you fanced taking some home. While we did not have time to sample the food on this occasion, we looked at the menu in the window outside and it sounded right up our street. A welcome touch appeared to be the option of potatoes or chips, rather than merely chips. We have made a note to try the food next time we are in the area. Overall, a warm welcome with excellent quality and value.

Fantastic food and a warm welcome, it's great that kids now can go to pubs and enjoy the experience, but did not enjoy the parents not taking control and spoiling the experience of a quiet pint, this isn't in anyway the pubs staff and owners fault, but this has happened a few times now when I visited and may sway my decision to visit again.
