Very expensive but nice none the less!

We came all the way from Bournemouth in Dorset and it's the best Indian we have had. The service was incredible, all the staff were polite and kind, the restaurant was very clean and the food was incredible 10/10.

Picked up a takeaway this evening lovely food, but when looking at menu discovered we were overcharged, taking into account the discount we should have been given for collection, by at least £6 shan't be going again!!!

The go to place for a decent curry in Moreton in Marsh. Everything is great, you sometimes have to wait but it's worth it. Booking is advised.

Wonderful attentive service and the most delicious dish I have ever tasted!

We were in Morten in Marsh for a couple of nights visiting from Canada. We love Indian food (due to their spices and flavors used) and were excited for some yummy Indian food based on the Google reviews for this restaurant We liked the service and atmosphere. But were really disappointed in the food ie butter chicken (they had another name for it on their menu) plus a 2nd saucy dish . No spice or flavor that we could tell and way too sweet. We’ve tried lots of Indian restaurants in surrey bc where we live so we know what Indian food should taste like . The pappadum with the sauces and naan were tasty.

Been here a few times now. The food is always excellent, and if you can get a table in the main room, especially by the window, it's a bonus. The poppadums and chutneys are always spot on, and I usually have a king prawn bhuna or a lamb dupiaza/bhuna. They're always excellent. Sometimes I've had to wait a little longer than I would have liked, but it's busyness is testimony to how popular it is.

This restaurant is a fabulous place to eat fabulous Indian food- I was amazed by the service- truly exceptional-

As a vegetarian I eat a lot of Indian food and this is probably the best I have had. We got the vegetarian platter as an appetizer with onion bahji, samosa, paneer and a delicious onion pepper and paneer mix in a spicy mango sauce. We also got the halloumi makhani which was a very different taste then I expect with makhani. It was delicious, especially paired with the fried rice and green chili naan. We are already planning on coming back because we loved the food so much. Also the service was exceptional. We felt very taken care of and would definitely recommend anyone try this restaurant.

We got a takeaway order of biryani, which was plenty for two and delicious. The samosas were very good too. The counter person was dressed very nicely, so I expect that the restaurant experience would also be top notch. He was very personable and patiently described the dishes to us. I meant to go back on our last day, but it was raining and they weren't open yet. :(

Excellent service and great food will definitely go back

Had been recommended this place by some friends. It was very busy so some people must love it. Sadly for us we felt that all the dishes lacked flavour and spice. We found it to be on the slightly higher end of the price point locally and the first thing we saw when we entered was an industrial sized blue vat of mango chutney 🤦🏻‍♂️ If you love supermarket curry meal deal flavour, this may well be your jam.

Raj Magal Restaurant is a hygenic, reasonably priced Asian/Indian restaurant situated near to the train station in the main town centre. Loved our meal - papad, paneer jalfrezi, dal makhani, jeera rice, chapati etc; Staff was very efficient and friendly; Ambience was comfortable; Absolutely grateful and will definitely recommend.

Me and my partner went to the Raj Mahal and we had a great time, the food was very good quality and the service was amazing. There is a large selection of vegetables dishes so I recommend this place for vegetarians and vegans (like me). Highly recommended.

We (5 of us) went to the Raj Mahal for our sons 21st Birthday. He has a nut allergy so we need to be careful. The staff we very helpful in recomending dishes for him. The Service was amazing and the food delicious. We will definitely be returning.

We visited this place after some recommendations from friends and online sources. The good parts- food was well cooked, ambience was great, and they had good quality high chair. The goods sort of ends there. The food was way below standards, and remember this is 2024. Biryani- more like coloured rice, nothing like what the menu described. Naan and roti- well cooked, good quality. Daal makhni- this is not dal makhni. No offence. It was made with Chana dal. It’s a bit like calling a hamburger a chicken burger. Go figure. Paneer achari- same base gravy added to some pickle. Tasted quite good. Service- cold, was told the owner didn’t know many of the dishes and the authenticity. Told many times the plate was hot( this is clearly racist- it only matters if you eat with your hand). The plate was unusually hot, so our 6 year old daughter got a plate the size of her palm( in picture). Yes that small. Why a hot plate can’t be cooled down before keeping on table, I’d never know. I truly hope that these restaurants can grow up, and stop acting like nobody is watching. This is not 1950 where all it takes to be called Indian food is the name of the dishes you serve. While the sizeable British clientele will keep them in business, it’s a matter of time before real Indian food displaces these restaurants.

Loved authentic dishes recommended

I visited this restaurant with a party of four and ordered 2 main courses, 2 rice dishes, 1 bread option, and 2 starters. Unfortunately, our order was refused by the manager, who was quite rude and seemed to treat us differently because we are Indians. While the staff who took our order were polite and nice, the overall experience left us feeling unwelcome and disappointed.

Great little indian restaurant in the centre of Moreton in Marsh, we were served quickly with drinks and then our order was taken, the restaurant was fairly busy but our food arrived prompt and was very nicely presented and was delicious, definitely worth a visit and highly recommended.

Unfortunately the arrival at the restaurant was a little disappointing. We had booked for 6pm but turned up at 5.30pm (their opening time) having returned earlier than expected from a tour of the Cotswolds due to the rain and asked politely if we could be accomodated. We were tired and hungry but they didn't allow us to sit down earlier but they asked us, so hurry up, to come back after half an hour and so we did. The menu is very rich in dishes but it was difficult for me to choose because I found it a bit confusing. The dishes, on the other hand, are very good, abundant and with strong and decisive flavours. The waiting for the dishes was quite long, we ordered almost immediately but it took more than 40 minutes to be served. Nice, clean and well-kept environment.

They have a great selection on the menu. It is easy to try a lot of different dishes. The prices are quite reasonable. The house wines are a good value. We love the staff here. They are competent and fun to talk to.

You want a review, I’ll give you a review. It all started with hopes and dreams at approximately 09:03 BST in Bournemouth. We set off on our pilgrimage to Stratford in search of the BTG Cup. On the way we clocked what looked to be an outrageous establishment, the one and only Raj Mahal. We vowed to dine at the promised land only if we won. Spoiler, we won. Short notice, we asked for a table of 7 in 30 minutes, we got a table for 7 in 30 minutes. Upon being welcomed to the establishment, I felt like I was home. Layers on layers of greetings. Layers on layers of wonderful people making our experience fantastic. Free bubbly to celebrate, stupendous food and refreshing cobra’s on tap. Wow, I was moved. I live absolutely nowhere near this amazing venue but I will be back in the next week. Don’t walk here, run. One love, one heart. Blessings to the best of the best. Until our paths cross again <3

Best of the best. From the food to the service, everything was outstanding. Would recommend to anyone and everyone.

Excellent food and service. Only one negative for us, and this may not be a problem for others, but they want you to order one main dish per person regardless of starters and sides. We (two of us) only ever share one main with a couple of sides and naan. This is plenty for us and we don’t want more. My husband had a quiet word suggesting that this is a strange policy to have and we were ‘allowed’ to just order one. The complimentary amaretto that arrived with the bill was a very nice touch.

Very good service. Perfect popadoms and onion bhajis and really good flavours in the three main courses. This is a cut above the standard curry restaurant and a great find. Will be back

We had dinner at Raj Mahal on 10 June, 2023, our first evening in the Cotswold. After less than hospitable experiences in two other restaurants in Moreton-on-Marsh on this, our introductory evening, Raj Mahal was warm and welcoming in comparison. The food was pretty good, the service efficient and the prices fairly competitive (our benchmark being London where we spent the last ten days). As an Indian who cooks and can discern good Indian food, two pieces of constructive feedback I would give the restaurant: 1) the vegetarian food could be made more distinctive by using different spices in different dishes - the Gobhi Alu (Cauliflower & Potato), Paneer Matar (Cottage Cheese & Peas Curry) and the Chola (Chickpeas curry) of the Chola Bhatura we ordered were all tasty but also very similar (tomato based) in their look and flavours. A drier Gobhi Alu with only dry Indian spices and fresh ginger and coriander leaves, and a dark brown Chola gravy (the trick is using black tea water for colour and flavour!) would be more authentic. 2) The breads (Tandoori Roti and Parathas) would be nicer made thinner. They were both very thick and therefore a bit stodgy/ less flaky, light and crisp than desired. The Tandoori platter was a good option for variety. The Chicken Kababs in it were particularly good. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would recommend Raj Mahal to others looking for a good Indian meal with quick service.

Okay but not good, but with a trapped market there is no need for them to up their game..

If you are an Indian and looking for a proper Indian food then I would not recommend this we had veg and non veg here and Hyderabadi biryani is definitely a No no here, but if you are non India who doesn't eat hot then maybe its a go to place

We had the best time here! Service and vibes were great! As an American I feel like they have a better menu than any US Indian restaurants I've seen, and I've tried a lot, lol. We ordered dishes that were marked medium spice level since we're on the lower level of spice tolerance but the spice level of the menu must be at British levels because although both dishes had great flavor they were not spicy at all. 10/10 experience!

Amazing, My family have now been to this restaurant 3 times over the last 12 months, I have to say it’s the best food I’ve eaten

We waited for a staggering one and a half hour for the food.When we complained a waiter said the lamb shank took an hour to cook. When we said the Dahl was burnt and the king prawns were mushy, the waiter said we did finish the food. So what kind of attitude and services was that? A few dishes were good though. Won't go back.

Unfortunately the service was unacceptably slow and extremely poor. We sat down at 7pm and ordered within 10-15 minutes. The poppadoms and drinks came fairly quickly. Then, looking forward to the mains, we waited, and waited, and waited... Each time we asked, they said it was on the way...though the didn't seem too concerned! We were given one excuse after another. In no particular order, excuses ranged from: "you didn't order quickly enough". "The chef is busy with takeaway orders". "You have a big order" - we were told we MUST order at least a main course dish each. ( which we had planned to anyway!). "The lamb shank takes an hour to cook" We pointed out it's normally pre-cooked, and their response was - "so you're a chef then"🙄! After waiting around 45 minutes, we also noticed no one else had their main courses. This was worrying, knowing that some were waiting even longer than us! Eventually, the mains were served at just after 8:35pm! It was Good Friday, so we expected some delays, but NOT 1 ¼ hours! The food was generally okay, but the tarka Dhal was burnt and the Prawn Masala was extremely disappointing (very few prawns and they were mushy).

VERY SLOW service... we arrived at the restaurant just after 7 pm and placed our order around 7:20 and were assured that the food would come quickly. After having our poppadoms and drinks, we waited and waited. We asked and asked for our food... eventually, the food arrived around 8:40. The customers arrived after us got their food before us! The waiter explained they were very busy with takeaway orders. It meant restaurant customers aren't their priorities 🙄. Food was average. When the waiter asked about our food, we complained that one of our prawn dishes was mushy (obviously not ver fresh) and tarka daal was burnt. He then said "you manged to finish all the food." I said, "we were starving." We were offered some drinks on the house but we just wanted to leave as some of us were driving. The whole experience at the restaurant was bad .

I had a really bad experience generally starting with table booking to food. Table booking - First when you book a table, every person has to order a starter and a main course separately (Main course has to be ordered from a specific list, which hardly has any vegetarian options). Food - we ordered two starters, two main courses and some breads. Starters were ok. Main course dishes were really really bad - had almost no flavours, curries were sweet. Naan and chapati tasted like the ones sold by supermarket. My wife and I were convinced that they were not cooked inside the kitchen from scratch after eating it. Staff behaviour was also weird - especially when we asked for some help related to the baby stroller as there is no lift.

Didn't have great service when I bought family to visit and was disappointing, had a few takeaways since and part of the order missing, the taste was a little lacking, its a nice restaurant and the staff are very friendly I will be going back but not immediately, you may find it's what you want just give it a go..

As someone from across the pond we found the quantity and quality too small and not of good standard for their pricing. The food was like any Indian restaurant but their service was attentive.

I was recommended this place by a friend about the top quality of food and service. I came here with my two brothers. Upon arriving was greeted by the host and just said that it be a few minutes wait. The host was welcoming. As he said the table was ready withi. Few minutes and had one of the waiters escort us up. A friendly Kamran took us up and took us to our table. Was friendly and asked hows our day been and made general conversation. He was very attentive, asked us for our drinks and provided us with menu. The drinks came out quickly and presented them nicely. The menu had loads of dishes that I never seen before so when a waiter called Sayed came over, I asked him what he would recommend. He asked for my preference which was great to see, he mention that everyone has their own taste and would rather accomdate to mine which was awesome. Upon recommendation the starter was king prawn on puree, this was divine as the touch of pomegranate seeds and blueberries combination took my a bit of surprise at the beginning thinking how wierd but to my surprise I loved it 😍. The lamb ghost with Hyderabadi biryani was amazing! Honestly one of the best biraynis I had, was juicy and moist and the curry packed full of flavours! Recommend this places honestly amazing!!!

First time ordered and collected....Food was sweet and not spicy at all...it's almost like they forgot to put the spices in? Chicken Pathia - Like a tin of plum tomatoes and sweet. Chicken Balti - Sweet and tomato tasting with tough chicken pieces. Not at all pleased given the cost!

Ordered chicken & lamb biryani but that seems normal flavored sweet rice even after making it super spicy with green chilli. Specifically to indians who tasted authentic Hyderabad dum biryani it is not at all a dum biryani. So go with zero expectations and enjoy.

Unsatisfied! Food was not authentic in any aspect. Tried 2 completely different types of Biryani, which turned out to be same with unexpected sweet taste, even though special request for a spicy main. The rice was not basmati, and cooking was not dum. The staff were not friendly at all. The price was very high for a very basic dish. Never coming back!

The best Indian cuisine ever. Even had an amazing salad instead of rice that was not on the menu - beautiful presentation (with peas, lettuce. Pomegranate seeds, onion, pepper, olives). Service was perfect too. Very polite and friendly staff. Would highly recommend this restaurant 😍

Just stopped in for a take away to split a long journey. A delicious curry with nice rice, and a super hot fluffy nan bread.

+ The staff were immediately welcoming and had a great sense of humour + The lamb biryani was hands down the best I've had and the portion was massive, with a naan and sauce that were great and complimented it very well + Mid writing this my girlfriend insists I record that the peshwari naan was the best she's ever had + Everyone else at the table had a good meal for a good price + The restaurant itself was nicely presented and decorated Foolishly I didn't take a picture of the biryani but it was an absolute beast.
