The Bingham Restaurant in Richmond upon Thames

Great location, tricky parking, probably fantastic to sit in the read garden on a summer's evening. The vegetarian options were very limited with no sign of vegan options. The food was OK but not worth what we paid for it. The service was very good. Drinks by the glass were very expensive. Ambiance OK but crowded. I felt I was sharing the arm of my chair with the guest on the sofa next to me. Decoration felt overdone - dark paint, quite interesting artwork but overbearing. And a carpet in the toilet? Hmmm. It's an OK and worthwhile experience but we will not rush back.

Both my duck and my partners lamb was a little tough. Everything else was tasty with wonderful combinations of flavours . I especially enjoyed the cheese course, which was served warm and melting.

Absolutely brilliant job by Stephen and his team. A miscommunication meant that we arrived for my mother's 89th birthday lunch unaware that Stephen wasn't actually on duty that lunchtime! Disaster... swiftly turned into triumph by Stephen as he and his team created the most marvellous birthday feast for my parents... perfect. My mother is still raving about having her own 'private' chef! ☺️...many thanks!!

Fantastic evening from start to finish. Food was amazing and the wine pairings were really interesting.

We dined as a couple at the Riverhouse on a cold, wet and windy Friday night and can’t think of a better place to have been. From the warm welcome we received on arrival to the amazing food, atmosphere and service. Special shout out to our server Lucasz, who was not only very attentive but also chose s some fantastic wines to pair with our meal

We started off with drinks in the lounge some lovely cocktails spicy Jalapenos Negroni, Apple Martini and Wild Woman. Dinner was in the Dining Room, the meal was amazing each dish was a fine piece of art, extremely tasty and could not fault it, three of us had five courses with two bottles of wine with all the extra pieces we were full. The restaurant is a bit hard to find but amazing décor once you find it. My colleagues from Germany and France were very impressed. We had dessert and coffee by the fireplace which was a great end to the evening. All the staff were amazing very polite as expected some even had a sense of humour. Dippy Egg with toasted brioche soldiers - amazing dish !!! I have started saving up so I can revisit. Thank you Steven Edwards - will now visit your restaurant in Brighton next

The food was most enjoyable, as always. We sat in “the library” section for a change - quieter and surrounded by shelves of real books, though all of the Penguin Classic” type - rather uninspiring. The menu was a little confusing with its 3-5 course options - which included a serving of sorbet counting as a “course” (+ £15). Service was pleasant although the gentleman who introduced himself as our server for the night was barely seen again - two other waiters took orders and delivered food. Disappointing was the refusal of my American Express card, despite the listing on Open Table showing Amex accepted. At least it would have been advisable to inform this new policy at the time of booking, to avert embarrassment.

We got a table at the last minute and were warmly welcomed, and put in the bar at a reserved table. But it was very noisy. Before we had a chance to say so, the staff had already seen that and found us a lovely table on the balcony. The service was excellent and the food and drink great too. Thoroughly recommended.

We did the set menu at the River Garden. A number of the options had a supplement, the sundae was pretty average, as was the gnocchi, though the fish and burrata were delicious. It felt very overpriced at £55+ per head. There was also very loud music and someone on a microphone at the start of the meal that ruined the ambience. I wouldn’t go as far as to say we felt ripped off but it was pretty poor value for money.

Had a really nice dinner here - food was good value. Service could have been a bit slicker but overall a lovely setting.

Service was very slow; food was quite nice, but did not have everything on the menu. Set menu prices do not include sides and you need to pay extra for fish. Very dog friendly, lovely atmosphere. I would like to go back, but would like a better service.

Very slow service despite the restaurant not being busy - there were only 2 to 3 other covers. The so called fixed price £30 for 2 courses there was additional £5 for most dishes therefore likely cost £40. Food was mediocre. The Cafe de Paris butter was just butter with parsley. Only had “yellow” mustard. I would not go back there nor recommend it to anyone.

First time at this restaurant following the great reviews on OpenTable - we were not disappointed. The 5 course menu turned out to be 8 courses, each one looking and tasting better than the other. Attentive and knowledgeable staff making this a perfect evening to celebrate a special occasion - my divorce!

We enjoyed the bar menu for a light meal, having decided we could do justice to the five course tasting menu.

Had a fabulous meal here to celebrate our daughter’s 30th birthday! A beautiful building overlooking the river - we had a lovely round table in the stylish dining room. Jovans was our waiter and we started with some lovely “amuse-bouches” - little tartlets/muffins of Parmesan and mushroom. This was followed by some really tasty marmite buns - yes, marmite, which you either love or hate, I hate it, but absolutely loved these served with seaweed butter - just delicious, and a parsley soup. My starter was the duck - really delicious, cooked perfectly pink and succulent! Daughter’s fiancé ( who had found and booked for us) had the signature “dippy egg” which he said was delicious! I had venison for mains - again perfectly cooked and really very filling. Everyone cleared their plates. Son went for the vegetarian carrot dish which he really enjoyed. I couldn’t resist the ginger dessert - gorgeous ginger sponge snd incredible ice cream with pear absolutely perfect! The whole meal was fabulous and we had plenty of time between the many courses - wine was fab too! A really beautiful meal, cooked to perfection in beautiful and relaxed surroundings and some lovely birthday chocolates on a decorated birthday plate to eat with our coffee! Thank you to all at the restaurant - we will be back!!!!

I must admit this was one of my best culinary experiences so far. From the moment we have been welcomed at reception to the very end. Service was really nice and polite And the food was just something out of this world. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone. It’s a good choice for people that are gluten intolerant. I can’t wait to be back

I visited in late November 2022 and I could not fault the visit whatsoever. The food was intricately planned, and the executive chef has clearly put a lot of effort into designing and delivering not only the menu, but also the appetisers. The quality of the food was simply equisite. It has been many many years since I have had food of such quality, and was priced extremely well. The service from George was excellent, and made us feel very welcome and knew a lot of information about the wine list.

I dont normally write reviews but today we had such a terrible dining experience at what is heralded as the go to place in Richmond. Our starter drinks took 30mins to arrive ( despite 2 bar staff .. ) .. the starter was tiny ( mackerel two very small pieces .. ) and the main took over 2.5hrs to be served despite asking for it numerous times. We ordered the wine pairing menu and because the food was so delayed the wine ended up being paired with wrong meal item ... service staff were delayed and confused ... and clearly had no control over the kitchen. A waste of a day and money. Wont be back - be warned..

It was Friday evening and the restaurant was half empty, which sent alarm bells. I was expecting exceptional food. It was okay, some dishes were very good, but my main was underwhelming, and deserts average ….we had the tasting menu and wine to go along side. ( I wouldn’t suggest doing the wine, portions were minimal for a hefty £75 per person) Meal came to £400 for two and we left feeling dissatisfied. We did mention to the manager that we were a little disappointed and she kindly removed the service charge. We won’t recommend this place nor go back, which is unfortunate.

I am glad I found this place for my daughter's birthday. Everything was excellent. Now, good food doesn't come cheap, but it was a valuable one-off experience that made her day special and the lunch menu deal came at a good price, considering all. I would happily go back and try the rest of the menu items which we could not try out this time. The food was of superior quality.

An exceptional fine dining experience. Obviously it’s not a cheap evening out but the value for what you get is amazing. The food was to die for, the staff attentive and atmosphere was great on the river. Will definitely be back for another special occasion and would highly recommend.

We enjoyed the tasting menu and the food was consistently excellent. However, and its a big but, the whole thing was let down by very, very slow service.

Some of you may recognise the fact that I have visited this gem of a restaurant on a few previous occasions…. There is an adage that says something about not returning to a place expecting the follow-up experience to be the same or better. Let me assure you that Steven Edwards' Bingham Riverhouse proves this adage to be completely wide of the mark!!!!! There are many reasons why my wife and I return to the Bingham. Setting and ambience are givens but when you add the exquisite menu served by dedicated, personable and long-serving staff a perfect experience is created….. In truth, we crave our next visit every time we say our farewells!!!! Steven Edwards has come up with the concept of choosing 2, 3, 4 or 5 courses from a realistically priced Tasting Menu. It had to be 5!!!!!! We were greeted by the delightful Edyta and sat out on the terrace overlooking Thames with a glass of Drappier champagne as we prepared to enjoy the fruits of the kitchen’s efforts. Entering the restaurant, we sat at a favourite table with views out over the terrace and river – views which were soon overlooked as we enjoyed delightful canapés. A truffled mushroom doughnut with a fondant of goats’ cheese on a parmesan biscuit. 2 glasses of Nyetimber Classic Cuvée provided an excellent complement. The arrival of one of Steven Edwards’ signature dishes – Marmite brioche served with seaweed butter confirmed that we were on track to really enjoy the evening and this was endorsed by the final palate-tempter - asparagus soup with peas and mint drizzled with asparagus oil…….heavenly texture and flavours that were rich and yet delicate. My wife started with Shitake mushrooms served on a truffle risotto topped with a parmesan crust. I had the Diver-caught scallop served on scallop sauce and garnished with the thinnest of leek strips - Again, the flavours and textures were a triumph which one wanted to savour for as long as possible before the next course arrived. Another of Steven Edwards’ signature dishes followed – Dippy Egg with toasted brioche soldiers. The rich, unctuous duck egg yolk was complemented by nasturtium and wild garlic….. Yet another reason to come back to the Bingham Riverhouse ;-) Let me say a few words about the magnificent staff at Bingham Riverhouse…. Ricardo Barros’ team have been with him for some time and there is no doubt that they are invested in the continued success of this terrific establishment. Lukasz, Edyta, George and Suzanna (apologies for any names omitted!!!!!) all contribute to the complete enjoyment of a fabulous experience I continued with fillets of John Dory served with celeriac, lovage, brown shrimps and capers - wonderfully rich without being overpowering. My wife chose the Pork fillet, beautifully served with asparagus and puffed pork – a visual triumph that matched the flavours perfectly. Wigmore cheese followed – beautifully presented with flavours that served as perfect counterpoints to the richness of the previous course. And then…..dessert!!!!! The Rhubarb was presented with a finger of set custard, poached rhubarb and a rhubarb sauce………simply exquisite. We had chosen a very pleasant Gautheron Chablis that provided a god complement to the myriad flavours that had been presented……very pleased with the choice!!!! In summary, Steven Edwards' Riverhouse is one of our very happy places and we look forward to returning in the near future and to introduce dear friends to the excellence of this complete dining experience. Thank you Ricardo and Team - unforgettably excellent ;-)

A beautiful hotel with incredible food. A perfect birthday lunch

Booked dinner for two last night via OpenTable. Booking clearly states the cost as £50 per diner but expected wine, VAT and service on top. Noticed when ordering the menu seemed to suggest the cost as £85 each, and I raised this discrepancy with the waiter before we had eaten or drunk anything, who said he would pass this issue on to his supervisor. We then had an enjoyable meal, albeit in a cold draft as sat next to the door in the library with a constant stream of staff and guests in and out - my wife ate with her jacket on. The main courses and desserts in particular were excellent. At the end of the meal a gentleman came to our table to explain the booking form was wrong, effectively adding close to £100 to our bill. He said it was an issue they had had before, that we weren't the first customers who had been caught out this way. I had queried thd cost at the outset but no one thought to clarify the issue till we had finished, denying us the option of declining the meal - annoying! The fact that this issue had arisen before and they had not addressed it- more annoying. The end result of adding nearly £100 to our bill and by way of compensation knocking off the price of z coffee and a tea - insulting and annoying. We won't be back.

Gorgeous setting, elevated & overlooking the river. Interior decor is also beautiful, particularly the stylish, members bar area where we kicked off with cocktails (the Lychee is divine). The greeting was warm, & service polished but easy going. The menu is a 2 to 5 course affair, though on a weekend evening, only the 5 course jobbie is on offer. We had a very good meal, the amuse bouche, & homemade bread & butter with seaweed, absolutely stunning. These were the highlights, though our starter & main courses were quite good. Overall, a very enjoyable experience.

Great setting and pleasing decor, especially the pre dinner cocktail area. Menu interesting etc Service was dire, 1hour 10 until starters were served, we were a party of just 4 and the restaurant wasn’t full or busy. Mine was inedible, stodgy mushroom risotto ruined by an extraordinary amount of mint added, such a bizarre combination, even though I was by then starving I couldn’t eat it. Had lamb cutlet for main, and should always be served rare, however I didn’t expect the chef to just take it out of the fridge and put it on my plate with raw turnip. The staff were not engaging and feel there was a complete lack of organisation, something was clearly not going right this evening. Such a disappointment as desperate for there to be a decent place to dine in Richmond. The wine list was very good but apart from that I am struggling to find positives, a real shame.

My wife and I visited here to celebrate our respective birthdays. Whilst my wife is a vegetarian, I'm a pescatarian....and we both do not eat chocolate but the restaurant was great in accommodating 7-course tasting menus for us. The dining experience: - Ambience - really classy and lovely with a hint of being in someone's cosy living room - Service - the staff were really friendly and helpful. Also they arranged for a "happy birthday" dessert for my wife - Food - amazing! I enjoyed the seabass and the trout. My wife enjoyed the risotto and leek soup We would definitely come back again. If you are going to the restaurant by car, there is no parking on the street the restaurant is on but if you drive past the restaurant with it on your right, turn left just before the traffic lights and left again, there are parking spaces reserved for restaurant customers.

We celebrated our anniversary at the Bingham and had the 7 course tasting menu. The food is technically excellent and creative without being pretentious, with the stand out dish being the stone bass which was perfectly cooked and genuinely an incredibly delicious piece of fish. The menu as a whole was well designed, with dishes that connected to one another and were clearly prepared with great care. Front of house was welcoming and friendly and service throughout was attentive without being overbearing. Especially deserving of a mention is Lukasz the Sommelier, who not only recommended a great selection of wines by the glass to complement the meal (we had chosen not to have the matched wines) but was also kind and generous with his time and knowledge, ensuring we came away from the evening with happy smiles. Thank you all for the lovely evening, we are looking forward to joining you again soon!

Superb lunch. Such tasty, cleverly thought out and beautifully presented food. Champagne and wines also excellent and well recommended by the delightful Italian sommelier. All the staff were charming, Rin the waiter was great fun, friendly and highly professional. Great atmosphere in the well appointed restaurant. Views over the Thames. Sister restaurant to Etch in Hove and equally as good . Will definitely go back.

Having been to Steven Edwards restaurant Etch, we wanted to give this a shot. It did not disappoint in any way. The service from the moment we got inside was top class. Cocktails - delicious and none of us ordered from the menu, simply made them up with what we liked. Food - incredible. I simply cannot say how good this actually was. The lamb was one of the best things I’ve ever had. And the rhubarb dessert - delicious. Absolutely loved everything about it!

The meal at The Bingham was full of surprises. Each dish was clearly prepared with care and the presentation was a real feast for the eyes. Everything we had was delicious and the service was impeccable.

We had a great stay at this hotel over weekend of Valentines . From the moment we arrived until we checked out our stay was perfect . The staff are superb . It’s tough to pick out people because they were all so good but the 2 young ladies n reception , Marie and her Romanian colleague and the lovely young sommelier from Rome were exceptional and made us feel so welcome. The staff in the bar and breakfast room and the dining room were all excellent also . We had the 7 course taster meal on Valentines evening and it was superb and every course was so Tastey . Although the meal and drinks made it an expensive evening we felt like it was a very special experience and really enjoyed it . We chose to have the A La Carte breakfast on our 2nd morning( £20 per person) and once again it was excellent . Our room was on the 1st floor with a river view and it had everything that we needed and we have no complaints. All in all we had a very memorable and enjoyable weekend stay at this hotel and will definitely hope to return again in the not too distant future.

Booked a table for five for a birthday dinner. In summary we were a bit disappointed. The refurbished bar isn’t a nice as it looked before, then when it came to ordering the meal we were first told the scallops had run out (okay not a problem), then we were advised not to order from the taster menu as the kitchen was busy, then after ordering the steak we were told the kitchen had run out of chips. It took some persuasion but I managed to get mash instead as it was on the menu. In summary the food was okay, but I feel the restaurant is trying to be something it doesn’t quite achieve (which is a shame).

From time to time I just need respite. A nice evening meal with a glass of wine, a relaxing bath with no-one clambering for my attention and then an uninterrupted night of sleep. That’s what I got. Excellent food, excellent service, left alone to just enjoy. 1 recommendation would be some luxury bath elixir. As it happened I brought my Elemis muscle soak with me, so all was well. Bliss!

Wonderfully relaxing atmosphere, almost reaching elegant in some respects.The staff are very friendly & professional but manage to convey this in an almost casual manner which we thought was most impressive.A wide and varied wine & drinks menu which in my opinion was very reasonably priced.The food was good, But, just missing that certain "je ne sais quoi" for me which would have elevated it to "great" as oppose to "Good" The Italian sommelier "Mikayla" I apologise for what is probably the incorrect spelling of this ladies name was an asset to the restaurant, fantastic service and manner about her.Looking forward to our next visit.

Exquisite food in a small cozy atmosphere with outstanding views of The Thames River.

This is a super hotel, bar and restaurant. The location is unbeatable ... right on the river's edge in Richmond. We had our wedding there in 2018, and it was faultless in all aspects. The staff are amazing, the BBQ on the lawn was unbeatable, and nobody could think of a bad word to say about the place. Top, top venue.

Christmas lunch consisted of chaotic service, long waits in between courses and very mediocre food. So disappointing. We were not on a budget but at £150 per head, expected something half decent. They crammed in as many tables and possible. It was a disaster. They have also turned this once elegant restaurant with beautiful furnishings into a cafe.

We were booked in for lunch on a Sunday before Christmas. When we arrived, we were ignored by the staff in the cramped reception area. There was no bar staff in the bar so basically we just sat there. Eventually we were able to hand in our coats and order drinks. A young couple in the bar area complained about the lack of service and then left. The dining room itself is bare with these bizarre book shelves. The set menu wasn't what we expected. It doesn't clearly say on their website which menu is available when. We were lectured by the arrogant manager that we had made a mistake with our booking. You never blame the customer but should try and find a solution. We then left without having eaten and had a lovely meal at Côte. We will never go back there. The manager said to us when we left that they don't have to indicate which menu is valid for what day since they had over 100 people booked. Very bad attitude.

Had such a lovely afternoon at the Bingham hotel today. We booked a special girls lunch there and was not disappointed. Service was impeccable. The hotel has been refurbished and the restaurant has a lovely modern but cosy feel about it. Food was really delicious. Will definitely be going back. Highly recommend.

Visited the Bingham for a lunch with my girlfriends today and we could not have been looked after any better. Service was impeccable and the menu, whilst small, is delicious and has great, interesting options for vegetarians. And the setting is really special overlooking the river. I live locally, but had not been to visit since the hotel and restaurant had it’s refurbishment. It’s beautifully done and it was busy and bustling at lunch time. We had a brilliant lunch and are already planning our return visit. Absolutely one of the best places to eat in Richmond.

Nice friendly welcome lovely views and very nice food!

The place is very smart, ideal for business, friends or a romantic dining. Five stars for this. Also five stars for the service. Very helpful and always smiling waitress. Food was a big let down, maybe just for me. I ordered a crab risotto, with a £7 surcharge. I could not taste the crab at all and herbs used (probably some fennel) killed the taste. It was overcooked and presented in a bowl. Risotto should never be presented in a bowl. My friend had duck, and was pleased with it. Second dish was fresh cod. The fish was fine but, again, herbs used, killed the taste. I think they are trying too hard to be "nature conscious" . I had a cider, two glasses of wine and the bill came to almost £220 for four of us. Certainly not good value for money. Bottled water came with a top cork, suggesting to me that it was tap water or Brita.

Excellent meal, super wine pairing and lovely welcome and service! Only issue was the level of noise from relatively few diners , one table of ladies , clearly enjoying themselves, to the detriment of other diners. Even when they moved to the bar for their coffee it was quite easy to hear every word conversations across the room. Some sound reduction methods need to be installed.

Great surroundings, lovely old town house, beautiful views, excellent staff, great cocktails, tasty and beautifully presented food.

Very nice meal, excellent service lovely decor. No negatives at all! We had the A La Cart menu which offered many tempting options for each course.

We started with a cocktail at the bar and then had dinner on the terrace in the evening sun. Very good food, impeccable service, beautiful views of the river from the terrace. Perfect.

We came for lunch here and weren’t disappointed. We enjoyed the 2 courses for £26. The food was excellent quality as were the cocktails. Will definitely be coming back- lovely riverside location.

Had the 3 course lunch for £28 and all the dishes were impressive. We started with a velvety pumpkin soup scattered with seeds, before moving on to the wonderfully succulent chicken breast 'medallions', only quibble was that the main could have done with a bit more filling, ie more potatoes and vegetables. Desserts were delicious in contrasting ways, a traditional sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and a very unusual creme fraiche mousse with blackberries which tasted far superior to its menu description, we ended up sharing them as they were so different. The room itself is very pleasant filled with light and with a lovely view of the river, there was even sunshine on what has been a pretty washed out month, so all round a great meal

The venue was lovely and the staff were helpful and polite, if not warm. Disappointing that I'd booked this most expensive meal I've ever had, a thank you to a good friend who'd helped me out in the summer, and that nobody offered to take my jacket on arrival, so it was draped over the back of my chair and my umbrella had to sit on the floor under the table. The starter and desserts were wonderful, but the main was plain and underwhelming. A minus for me that although there was a large obligatory service charge added to the bill, there was also a £5.00 parking charge even though we had arrived on foot and by bus, having declined the offer of parking, which I had to ask to be corrected.

Fabulous restaurant. Came here for a special occasion anniversary meal and it didn’t disappoint. We had the set 3 course menu option as we were there midweek and a la carte wasn’t available per se. Having said that there was so much to choose from on the ‘set’ menu, from fish through to lamb and beef and then vegetarian options.

My wife and I have eaten many times at the Bingham and for the first time we were disappointed with the meal. The pumpkin soup was lukewarm, the mackerel starter was tasty but a minuscule portion of the fish, possibly less than one quarter of a fillet and the skate was not cooked. The service was good. Standards have fallen after the refurbishment

Having decided to take Sunday lunch in Richmond we did as one should living 100 miles away, research for the best place for the occasion .

We stayed here for one night in September whilst visiting Hampton Court Palace and ker Gardens.

Everything is to a high standard, excellent wines and wonderful food. Looking forward to our next visit, hopefully very soon

First visited last year with my boyfriend and when returning this year with my parents they remembered me which is always such a lovely touch. This time we sat outside in the sunshine and it was absolutely beautiful. The Sunday lunch menu is fantastic and a great deal. The staff and food are always outstanding its and it’s definitely a favourite of mine in London. I always recommend it!

Not had a bad meal here and good accompanying wines. Staff really nice and knowledgable. Can recommend coming for dinner even if not staying at this hotel

Great service, really lovey staff. Excellent for a special occasion. Beautiful view over the river. Can have drinks on the balcony. Stunning. My vegetarian daughter wasn’t super-impressed with her meal, but the rest of us would have give five stars for the food.
