Last night I collected a cod, mini fish and large chips from The Big Fryer. As always the customer service was excellent and the fish was cooked to order. We live a 12 minute drive away, so popped the fish and chips in the oven on a tray, just for a couple of minutes when we got home. The fish and chips were absolutely delicious. The batter was light and crisp and the fish firm and flaky. The chips were also extremely good. All in all - 100%! Thank you!

The best fish shop around these parts by a country mile. It's a lovely, friendly family business too so I don't know why there has been a bad review. It really is a lovely fishy.

Was a good chippy but gone downhill in the last year. Portion sizes are ridiculously small for what are you paying for. The chips were cold and tasted stale. The fish was horrible won’t be returning any time soon.

Fish and chip shop has for years operated a card or cash policy. Now however it’s cash only. A backward step in my opinion. I was told this by a grumpy member of staff serving, who had a rather abrupt and defensive attitude. Probably passed off having to announce this policy to customers. Cancelled my order, went to Brixworth Chippy, paid by card and £5.00 cheaper. I will not be going back to long buckby.

Great service and good menu choice. The fish and chips are just fab. The Kebabs are also fabulous. Parking is OK also.

I live in Northamptonshire and visit The Big Fryer in Long Buckby to enjoy the best fish & chips in the county when my daughter visits from London - she loves fish & chips. I book and prepay my order online via The Big Fryer Facebook page confirming our requirements (including salt & vinegar etc) and a pick up time. The quality is excellent together with the service. Why would you look anywhere else?!

Had cod yesterday. Fish really dry and batter hard. It was inedible. Chips were just ok. Very disappointing!!! Won’t be returning.

Best fish and chips we’ve had for ages! My husband and I both had cod (mine a small and hubby’s a regular) and they were both cooked to perfection, with huge flaky chunks of fish. The chips were excellent too! Staff always pleasant & friendly. Great value for money. We’ll be back for more!

Visited this chip shop a few times beforehand. They sell the standard things any chip shop does but the quality and service has gone down hill. It took ages for my order to be ready and even then it wasn't right. When I asked about it I got a barage of abuse from the staff telling me to be patient. That was my last visit to the place.

Myself and my husband had heard good things about Big Fryer so we thought we'd give it a try. We went on a Thursday evening and were given a warm and friendly welcome from the staff on walking in. There was plenty to choose from and all at a reasonable price. When we got our food home it was all delicious. We were sad when it was finished! So 10/10 Big Fryer! We'll be back again for certain.

An empty pub has little atmosphere. The meal was disappointing. My wife's fish was tasteless and dry. The batter was good though. The garden peas were overcooked. Chips were delicious but far too many. Not a great celebration of our 54th wedding anniversary!

Great pub and super friendly staff. 5 old mates(and CAMRA members) on a narrow boat trip last here 5 years ago. what a change! We had a lively evening with some hilarious banter with barperson/waitress Sianne. Steak and red wine meal deals good value and a pleasure to find a pub that didnt serve the dreaded Doombar. In Siannes words 'no self respecting pub should have Doombar'. Thoroughly recommended

We have been coming here for years but on the last few visits the service was intermittent and the food not as good as usual. Tonight was the last straw. Arrived 6:25 and ordered poppadoms promptly. I accept the restaurant was busy but with only two staff serving, there was a lot going out of the kitchen in paper bags with those who had come for a sit down meal left to wait. The starters arrived moderately promptly but the onion bhaji I ordered were the worst I have ever tasted in 41 years off eating curry. Cold and uncooked. We waited for the main course but saw other tables who entered after us served ahead of us. We gave them until 7:45 and left. My wife paid them for what we had eaten but there was neither apology nor recognition of the appalling service. We will not be going there again.,

For over 25 years I have enjoyed Daventry takeaways & The Mancain has never disappointed me. Here are some of the recent dishes sampled in September & October 2024: [8] Spare Ribs Chilli & Salted: Large and small ribs, fall off the bone salty Chinese spiced meat with plenty of sliced onions, spring onions, chopped garlic and spicy sliced red chillies. These are Really VERY GOOD ribs. [54] Chicken with Green Pepper & Black Bean Sauce: Lovely soft chunks of chicken, big chunky mixed peppers and onion petals in a rich, dark, slightly smoky and bitter black bean sauce. LOVELY. [68] Chicken in Oyster Sauce: I really enjoyed the simplicity of flavour with stir-fried big chicken chucks, Chinese leaves, sliced onions & carrot ribbons in a thick, aromatic, garlic & oyster mushroom sauce. [78] Beef in Satay Sauce: Plenty of thinly sliced, perfectly cooked beef, sliced peppers and onions in sweet and spicy hot peanut flavoured sauce. AWESOME. [146] Beef Kung Po: Ample slices of soft beef, onion petals, cashew nuts, peppers, bamboo shoots and water chestnuts in a ferocious hot yet slightly sweet & salty red sauce. Now that's what I Call a KUNG PO! 😋 [9] Curry, Special with Fried Rice: Big chicken chucks, sliced Chinese Roast Pork, King Prawns, ⅓mushrooms & BIG onion petals in a light coloured thick ginger spiced Chinese curry sauce. Simply delicious. 156] Spicy Plain Chow Mein Portion: RAMMED FULL of dry fine egg noodles, occasional Beansprout and big onion slices coated in a fairly dry, very hot and salty curry glaze with a hint of something middle Eastern. AWESOME SPICY DELIGHT. [Portion] Egg Fried Rice: The best egg fried rice. Simply delicious individual grains of golden brown rice without being greasy or clumpy I've ordered online via the website, telephone or just dropped in (Easy Parking). Delivery is charged by a Zone system, is reasonably charged and ON-TIME. I've never had an incorrect order and always freshly prepared, reasonably priced & piping HOT. The staff are always Friendly & Polite. Attention to detail with food quality, aroma and flavour are paramount and the MANCAIN Delivers in spades. Overall EXCELLENT service & food. WELL DONE MANCAIN ☆☆☆☆☆ Gromit Stanley Rating : 95+% HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
