The Telegraph Inn in Daventry

Saturday evening spent in front of an open fire with great food. I had the fillet steak which you don’t see on pub menus as much anymore and it was honestly one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The pub wasn’t too busy (likely because of all the firework displays going on), and it had a relaxed atmosphere, exactly what we wanted. My only suggestion would be to update some of their Guiness glasses - mine was 8 years old and a bit worn - but other than that, it was excellent.

We had lunch here two days in a row. The food was delicious and the service very good.

Food was good, my husband had the burger and it was great. I had the roast and all the trimmings were lovely, meat was well seasoned but a bit dry for my liking. Couldn’t fault the deserts and the service was good. Staff were welcoming and chatty. We will be back

First class service tonight in a busy bar. 7 of us ate and all really enjoyed our meals.

Had a meal with friends and it was awful, from the food to the service. None of us enjoyed our food unfortunately and the desserts were terrible! I don’t think the chap who was working wanted to be there at all. A shame as we were regulars when it was the previous owners. They don’t take feedback well, blocked from their facebook page 😂😂

I was recommended to come here by the proprietor at The Poplars, and a good recommendation indeed. It has been recently refurbished. I was made welcome and the menu is very enticing. I had 2 courses and 2 nice glasses of wine, less than £50 and both the food and the service were excellent. Highly recommended, and clearly popular.

We had a fantastic meal here. We had baeo buns and pork belly bites to start then had a 4 rack of lamb each for main with our choice of rice, chips , salad or vegetables (you can choose 2 each) and it was honestly the best lamb I've probably tasted....cooked to perfection juicy and tender! Absolutley top notch!

We have noticed a dip in numbers in the last few weeks when popping in for drinks. Have always enjoyed the food but today, Father Day, when we can for a roast etc it was well short of what we are used to. When the new management came in the new refurbishment gave it a fresh feel and the food was was as good, if not better, than the previous people. It was buzzing every day/ night with customers and was hard to get a table on a Sunday. We sat in there today on Father’s Day and there wasn’t many others in there… lots of free tables. I don’t know what’s happened recently but it’s like the soul has been ripped out the place.. must be a different chef and different food suppliers, most of the staff were different and the new Italian manager has been nowhere to be seen each time we have been in. We only love up the road and have enjoyed having such a quality local on the doorstep. Hope they get it sorted quick because it’s evident that loads of people feel the same way and their takings must have plummeted

After experiencing poor food here a few months ago, we decided to give it another try. The food was mediocre, dry pork ribs, overbaked sticky toffee pudding and certainly not worth the high prices. We felt rushed as the main meals came out the minute we had finished our starters. The ladies serving didn't really want to be there. We had to ask for cutlery, no-one came to ask if our meals were OK, and when it came to the bill, we had to go and search for someone in order to pay. Needless to say, we won't be returning any time soon.

The seafish pasta lacked seafood. The mushroom risotto was drowned in oil. Out of the party only two persons were happy with the food, one had a steak the other a pie. Needless to say much of the food was left and wasted. The young ladies serving were obviously inexperienced and needed reminding of such things as cutlery, plates and glasses for the water. Unfortunately unless investment is made in the kitchen it can only fail. It was certainly our last visit for the foreseeable future. Shame it’s lost its mojo.

Visited The Telegraph whilst on a short break in Moulton. Welcomed into the pub by Steven behind the bar. Served quickly with drinks and given menus. Myself and my wife both ordered the Wagyu Burger and were not disappointed, it was amazing. Steven continued to ensure we were served even though he was pretty much running the bar area and taking orders etc on his own. A polite and hard working member of staff, thank you. All in all a pleasant visit to a lovely little pub/restaurant.

Highly recommended! We came here for a joint birthday and Mothers Day celebration. Large group of 15 of us. Nothing was a problem to the amazing staff from moving the tables to suit us and our needs when it came to the menu. We felt welcomed from the moment we arrived to the time we left. Food was amazing and service was excellent, great value for money! Thank you to all of the staff for making such a special day for the whole family :)

Frequently stop for a drink and catch up, always friendly and a warm welcome. Haven't eaten there but would, food looks good.

Great pub with lovely, welcoming staff. We have come for many meals here since the new owner has taken over and wanted to try out the weekday lunch menu. It was a lovely meal and we will definitely be back!

We've had quite a few meals since my last review and whether it's Sunday roast or evening meals the food had always been excellent. All the staff are really friendly and the service is great, the new owner also makes everyone feel welcome and valued. Definitely recommend a visit and we will be continuing to eat here regularly.

Had a meal with the family. Everything was either over cooked, overly salty or stone cold. Service was terrible, food didn't start arriving until 45 minutes after we arrived. Waiter was miserable and the drinks are so overpriced. Won't go again

No table reserved despite booking weeks ahead. Still got a table no problem but made us feel unwelcome since they treated us as if they just fitted us in. The menu choices looked good, hence our visit, however the prices were very high but we thought we would like to give one of our local restaurants a try... My friend had a roast dinner and was really looking forward to a nice sunday roast, unfortunately she was incredibly disappointed when the food came out. The parsnips and the stuffing were both raw. Looked as if they forgot to cook them! So i went to the bar to mention it and the response i got was "we cook our food and then cook it again so i can assure you it is cooked". So much for the customer always being right. He hadn't even checked it when he told me that, so i felt that was quite ignorant and rude. Granted they brought us another plate but by this time i had finished my food so it ruined the dining experience and felt they could have done something for us such as offer us a drink, or money off, or perhaps even an apology. We got none of the above. The staff kept whispering and looking over at us while we were eating which made us really uncomfortable. I got up to get another glass of coke and thought perhaps they would give me that for free. I was wrong. So much for the customer service. No-one came to check to see if the new plate was okay. We left after eating and didn't even get a thanks, a sorry, or a goodbye! Truly awful customer service and massively overpriced for the experience we received. We will not ever be coming back, not even for a friendly drink as it seems the word "friendly" is lost at The Telegraph. I'll be going to one of the better, more welcoming and friendly local pubs such as The Artichoke or The Cardigan Arms.

Had a lovely evening yesterday, Paolo is a lovely host who even suprised us with some samples of his wonderful food, as locals we will be going there a lot more.

We had lunch last Sunday which was average to say the least. Not a great choice as it was either Beef or Pork. The beef was very fatty and poor quality. The veg was average. The roast potatoes were very poor. The dishes were served on cold plates which meant that the food cooled down rapidly while you were eating it. The staff were very good.

We came in for the Monday pie night that we saw on Facebook.. or if you prefer… just pie night as it’s the standard menu. We apparently had the chicken and mushroom pie which is simply just mushroom as there was genuinely no chicken in the pie. We also had the steak and ale pie. Which had a grand total of 4 pieces of steak the size of a thumb nail in it. It was actually quite comical playing the “looking for meat in the pie” game. Such a shame as we have been looking for a place that does decent, home style pub food. On the plus side The Telegraph looks great, serves a good selection of drinks and is in a nice location.

I have been twice since the pub has changed hands for food and seen some of the reviews…… I’m not so sure why some are so negative. Alway felt the new owner was making an effort with the place and people coming in, he did when I was there. Saw the complaint about Stephen (Person with tattoos) and have been a regular at the pub for 5 years and he is always polite and friendly so think someone is a complainer! I would prefer a menu with individual prices than the one for Christmas, but it’s good to have a new menu and I the effort they have made with the place

A very warm and friendly welcome awaits. I popped in for an evening meal and a pint. Met the owner who was very charming and welcoming. Had a beer and a traditional fish and chips. The batter was as good as any, and I have had a lot. If you are in the area then put The Telegraph on your list of places to eat or just have a pleasant drink in lovely surroundings.

Food absolutely delicious and beautifully cooked. Not cheap but not expensive either for the quality. My only complaint was that the room wasn’t very warm.

Main course took an hour and a half to come out, very slow service. When it did arrive, all but one meal was luke warm at best, the vegetables were rubbery and my pie choice was incorrect. Menu was far too expensive for a local eatery and gratuity is automatically added to the bill, with the option to ask to have it removed, which is just a cheek. A tip is the discretion of the table and should not be foisted upon paying guests, especially given the poor service received. We used to visit here frequently for family meals as it is very local to us, but will not be back. For a weekend night, they had three tables of guests, when the place used to be full so I'm quite sure we aren't the only ones that feel this has gone dramatically downhill with a focus on ripping you off rather than a decent dining experience.

Did not eat but the food is good by all reports. The decor is much improved since I last visited. They offer a good array of beer, spirits etc . Staff were friendly and polite.

I had a couple of drinks and the mushroom pie here last night, was absolutely banging. Will pop in again sometime.

All 4 off us tried the Katsu curry and it was lovely! The telegraph burger was nice with Chunky chips. The chicken skewers scored top marks! The kids were not so keen on their burgers but the chicken stripes went down well. The kids all eat their icecream 🍦 😋 We would definitely go again.

We had reservations about going due to feed back from others. But food was amazing family of 4 each had different meals we all loved the food Staff were great 👍

Lovely meal, we all commented how tasty our meals were, and how beautifully presented it was. We will dine there again.

What an obnoxious man serving with all the tattoos. He could do with a lesson in customer service. There was 6 of us that will never return again whilst this bartender is serving. Can’t believe the change in service since this establishment changed hands, although I don’t think the new owners realise how bad it’s got.

So much better friendlier and the rooms seem bigger cleaner and more relaxed since the new owners three months ago. I ordered a burger which was a large burger however it looked small on the size plate and the chips in the small basket next to it made the plate look empty. Maybe some salad next to the burger would I'll the space on the plate. Also my burger tasted great but it was pink and bloody in the middle with lots of juice which isn't to some people's taste. I personally don't mind that but the burger and chips were drenched by it. My friend who ordered the same didn't have that issue. I will return soon Overall 5 out 5 👍 Well done keto the Moulton pub life alive.

Arrived at the Telegraph, first ousting since my brother passed away 4 weeks ago so was feeling a little anxious. Found a nice seat by the window and made our way there only to be practically barged out the way and told the table was reserved despite the fact there was no sign on there. The chap then sat 3 women down who said what a lovely place it was. We were left feeling awkward and quite humiliated in front of the rest of the out who all heard and with this we decided to leave and wrong be back. The whole situation could have been handled far more professionally and tactfully. The food is also very expensive.

We had Sunday lunch here and really enjoyed our meals. The meat was tender and very tasty. The staff were very attentive, pleasant and helpful. The desserts were delicious especially the chocolate brownie. Will definitely be going back in the future. As we have family in Moulton the Telegraph has been a go to place for occasions or just a meal and will continue to be so.

Been in for drinks since new management but first time we had dinner. The food was excellent and really tasty. We had a lovely window table in the lounge and the new owner was very busy making sure we (and everyone there) had what they needed and genuinely making sure we felt welcomed and valued. Definitely one we'll be coming back to for more.

Bank holiday Bar-b-q to mark our first date anniversary at the place we first met. Pub has been beautifully re-decorated and upgraded. The food was excellent and the real ale spot on. Pablo has taken over and has restored the good local pub feel after a few years in the doldrums. So good to have 'our' pub back. Well worth visiting, nice garden too.

The new owner and staff are clearly still finding their feet, but please get the basics right. The sea-food risotto was almost inedible. Has no-one taste tested this yet? We were hungry and it was late so didn't take up the waitress's offered to change it. Won't be rushing back!

Went here for a Sunday roast as was a little disappointed. Presentation great but size of portion for the price was small. I'm not a big eater but came away still hungry

Great pub just had a nice refurb and now got new owners. Same great beers but with a new chef who's food is great. Definitely worth a visit if you're local or in the area. Also got a nice garden for summer drinking

Had a family dinner to celebrate Mothers Day, the meal choices were very good including vegetarian and all our meals (starters, main and desserts) were excellent. We had a wonderful time and would recommend.

This place is a gem. Go and have the salmon and chorizo- the best meal I have ever eaten. Lovely friendly landlord (Mick). You won’t be disappointed.

Food very good but freezing cold in the area we were seated in the bar, kept coat on throughout the time there. Heating was supposed to be on as it was zero degrees outside, but feeling so cold spoiled an otherwise nice occasion.

Celebrated my husbands 50th birthday here this weekend. They reserved the back room for us and they served up a hot and cold buffet. The food was delicious and everyone commented on the Asian Slaw and the potatoes were divine! It really was delicious, thank you

Update. Had halloumi burger. Spot on. Cracking pub feel and ambiance. Went in summer, but bet it is better in winter if the fire is on. My pizza was ok, alot of flour on the underside and tasted quite plain. Ate it all as hunger, but not the best tbh.

Had the mix grill and a couple of peroni, very good.

As a solo tourest staying in a nearby hotel I popped into the Telegrapgh for an eveing meal. Despite how busy they were on a Saturday evening, they accomodated me, service was prompt with friendly staff and I had one of the best meals I...

It's a comfortable pub. Staff are friendly. And it's just across the road from me. Dogs are welcomed in the bar area. Good seating outside.

6 of us had dinner at the telegraph last night. The food was fantastic and the service superb. Could not fault it. Landlord and his team were very friendly and efficient. Made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be going back.
