We visited the Bicknoller Inn for a Friday lunch and were respectfully and quietly met by the pub dog, mentioned in so many reviews to date. Sophie was managing front of house, both bar and restaurant, was polite and friendly throughout and worked with efficiency and speed. We picked up drinks from the bar - although Sophie even offered to carry them - and were shown to our table in the airy and light dining area. Our ciabattas arrived within a reasonable time of ordering. Whilst on the expensive side, portions were generous and presentation (on a board) well above what one would expect for a light lunch! Flavours were generally very good and we left clean plates (well, boards). Just before we left Lynda (the manager) kindly spent quite some time chatting with us about how the Bicknoller Inn is run, how it is sourced with local ingredients and as much as possible is freshly prepared (e.g. the bacon in my ciabatta and the homemade coleslaw accompanying it). Lynda also talked about the pub industry in general which was interesting to hear. On our way out we stopped and said goodbye to the mastiff who had greeted us and we departed happy. The Bicknoller Inn is well worth a visit. Clean, well run, with polite and capable staff. The building has tremendous character and is warm and inviting. Worth the little bit extra we paid and we will return before long.

15 of us enjoyed a superb Sunday lunch. I had the beef which was so tender and cooked to perfection and the rest of the party enjoyed whichever meats they had. The roast potatoes and veg were also great and the Yorkshire puds exceptional. All the staff, chef, waitresses, bar staff were all welcoming and friendly. Couldn’t fault it and would def visit again when in the area. There are also cracking walks around Bicknoller to work up an appetite and/or work off the food!

I have just had the best Sunday lunch that I have ever had in the most friendly pub I have ever stepped foot in. From the moment we walked in we were in love with the vibe. The head Chef was exceptional, his food was so tasty and what a wonderful choice. I never have puddings but was so glad we tried the gorgeous baileys cheesecake. All the staff were so friendly and made a real fuss of Ted our dog and the chef even gave him a big treat of beef. But the best bit of the day was meeting the gorgeous Geoffrey the pub dog. He was so calm and not bothered by any of the visitors and everyone fell in love with him. We will definitely be going back again this week.

Had Sunday lunch. Extremely tasty and fabulous choice of vegetables to go with the meat. Could have been a bit hotter though. Extremely friendly and attentive staff and beautiful setting. Only thing I personally didn't like is the pub dog wandering around with constant trail of saliva dangling from his mouth. He came into dining area where we were having lunch and not just me but people on next table didn't like it either. Member of staff did eventually shoo him out but it wasn't nice having him standing next to the table slobbering.

Well done Team Bicknoller Inn for a fabulous evening, Thursday 22 August. The food was delicious, all cooked and presented perfectly: pork tenderloin, duck, lasagne and fish and chips. The Baileys cheesecake was sublime. Thanks to Harry, Sue, Megan, Sophie and the rest of the team.

Enjoyed a carvery for a relatives birthday recently. Good food, but slightly let down by the service. Our server couldn't tell us the difference between a small and large carvery (we were trying to work out which was the 'standard'). They checked and came back saying you'd get a bit more meat. We ordered a large and small - couldn't have told you the difference and slightly disappointed that the chef was very insistent on no more than 3 roast potatoes each, which seemed a bit tight for a carvery (especially a large one). But nice place and the food was good.

What a lovely couple of hours spent in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, with delicious food and welcoming, attentive (though not overly), hosts. My husband, I and our dog Wilma visited this pub on three occasions when we were staying in the area. We have never felt so welcome in a pub before by the landlady staff and all the locals, such a beautiful dog friendly pub, full of character and atmosphere. We had the carvery for Sunday lunch which was delicious and plentiful, we also had an evening meal, the steak was cooked to perfection and the meal was so big we couldn’t finish it, compliments to the chef. Geoffrey the resident dog was so lovely and friendly too. Thank you to everyone who made our visits to this pub so special, we will look forward to coming back again and would recommend this pub to anyone staying in the area ..

Such a shame such a lovely pub, BUT the food on Sunday was bad. I really sorry to say but I understand now why pubs are closing Food needs to be good, this is NOT So much Potential, BUT cobs webs dirty doors in the main dining room are so easy to deal with. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DETAIL SAD 😭 SO SAD I love to go out and have a wonderful meal and I am happy to pay, but when the food is below average that is 1 frustrated and 2 SAD 😢

Visited this pub with family for an anniversary celebration on Saturday, we chose it as it was dog friendly and we have a 5 month old cavachon so one of the few dog friendly pubs in the area. When we arrived the landlady’s dog was in the bar a cockerpoo. It came up to sniff my puppy then viciously attacked her and bit her causing my puppy to yelp for about 15 seconds. The landlady came out and asked what had happened and we told her only for her to say oh he has never done that before which was a bit rude. My husband said that he should be on a lead if he acts like that to which she then took the dog behind the bar. We proceeded into the restaurant but my puppy was shaking and very scared. About half hour into the visit the dog was again roaming the pub which made us very nervous and I spent the next half hour and for most of my meal with my puppy on my lap which was not ideal. It ruined our evening and the landlady asked how she was while we were leaving. I would not return to this pub as not my idea of dog friendly

The place is very clean and well kept by owners who took over a couple years ago. The staff were very friendly. My garlic king prawns (perfectly cooked) with delicious salad and olive bread was perfect. Simple very fresh ingredients put together thoughtfully not thrown on the plate. We had a meal in the Bicknoller Inn during the Eat Out To Help Out scheme. Some of us had fish and some had pizza. If I was rating this restaurant on the Fish and Chips and Scampi then I would have probably given a 5/5If it was on the pizza then it would have only been a 1/5 unfortunately.Using red cheddar on pizzas instead of mozzarella in very strange and makes the whole thing taste like cheese on toast. They have invested in Pizza Ovens etc, the whole experience is wrong, when ordering the Pizza from the menu diners should be advised that they use cheddar cheese, such a shame.Hope this is changed in the future.

I always love coming here. Since the new handover nothing has changed, it’s still a great cosy little pub with lovely welcoming staff and amazing food. We went just as the pubs were opening after covid and I was a little disappointed the menu was more of a lunch menu and that nobody had told me over the phone, but it was on the board outside. They have a good one way system and good social distancing however they told me there was no running water and soap to wash our hands which is NOT ok. Washing your hands is always better than hand gel. If they don’t want to share towels or a hand dryer they need to get disposable paper towels. If you get something on your hands you need to be able to wash it off anytime let alone during these times. I love this little gem but this really concerned me when they told me.

We frequent the bicknoller inn a couple of times a year for family gatherings and have done for the past 13 years. Every time we visit Bicknoller we look forward to paying the pub a visit with the family and on most of the occasions our family put hundreds of pounds behind the bar over the course of each weekend we visit. I must say after our latest visit (which up until the end was faultless) the service from one individual leaves my partner and I questioning whether we will ever return again. We arrived at the Bick following a hefty walk through the hills. Walking into the courtyard we were welcomed by a woman with a lovely greeting, she pointed us in the direction of the beer garden and said someone would see to us shortly - I noted what a lovely welcome that was to my partner, I had heard a few negative reviews from family who said the service had gone down hill, but with this welcome I had to disagree, it was spot on!Our orders were taken by a young chap and female, the service from both was top notch, professional, friendly and informative. The young lady explained it was her first day, dealing with a large group such as ourselves she did a cracking job. We ordered our food and drink, ordering a few pizzas and chips between us. The chips were incredible, cooked differently from ones I had at Christmas (which seemed like your standard pub chips) the ones we had were sublime, triple cooked or something, but none the less absolutely delicious. The pizza on the other hand a little disappointing. We were told in advance of arriving they had pizza ovens and very much looking forward to sampling these. On arrival we were told the pizza oven would not be switched on until 4pm (a little disappointing but fair enough, we were happy to pick something of the menu which had a decent range). Saying that, within 5 minutes we were told they would be happy to switch the ovens on, it would take 30 minutes to heat up, but we could have pizzas if we liked - amazing, what a lovely touch and great customer service. We ordered x4 pizzas in our group, they arrived and whilst they didn’t taste bad, they could certainly be far better. The pizza base appeared to be shop brought, lathered with cheddar cheese which made it a greasy and heavy pizza to eat. Also worth noting that the deal of a pizza with x4 toppings includes the cheese as one of those toppings, a little strange, they may just as well consider the tomato base a topping as well. Like I say not bad, but you would expect a nice thin crust pizza topped with mozzarella and of a higher quality, saying that they did fill a hole. Our group spent a few hours enjoying the lovely weather in the beautiful beer garden, drinks were flowing and between us we must have spent hundreds of pounds - well worth it if you ask me, until it came to paying the bill when literally the whole experience was tipped on its head. My partner and I went to the bar to join our friend in working out who needs to pay the bill. At which point we were barked at by the woman behind the bar ordering us to get back and that only one person at a time can stand at the bar followed by a 60 second rant which made us feel so awkward and shocked. Rules are rules and this is fine, in our defence there were zero signs to indicate that only one person should be stood at the bar. We were caught so off guard to be spoke to in this way that we sort of hovered trying to digest how and why we had just been spoken to in such a way to then be barked at again to get behind the line on the floor (excuse us for not looking at the floor - it’s not our natural instinct to be looking at the floor and given there where no signs to say there was a line on the floor why would we). Said lady then elaborated that she needed to think of the safety of her staff (again fine and totally understandable but there is a way of speaking to people and shouting at them for an innocent mistake is not it, speaking in a friendly manner to educate them of your rules would be far better). Once our friend paid his part of the bill it came to our turn to pay, the woman came round, miserable as sin and handed us the card machine to pay (not maintaining social distancing may I add, double standards if you ask me but I’m not the person to shout or act aggressive like she did us). Took our payment and snatched the card machine back and that was it - no thank you for your service or please come again - nothing. I find astounding and having worked in hospitality myself that someone could be so rude to customers, I don’t think I have ever been spoken to in that way. This let the entire experience down & left us feeling resentment to putting our money behind the bar and left us questioning we would ever go back. From what was an exceptional customer service, where I would have given 11 out of 10 and so pleased to see the Bick back on form and quashing the prior negative feedback I had received, the way we were dealt with at the end i would have to give a 2 out of 10. If others are spoke to in the way we were there is no doubt they will lose out on business. Utterly disappointing.

Wow! What a disappointment from start to finish! If I could rate a 0, I undoubtedly would! First lunch out with a friend post lockdown only to have a terrible experience. The signs were bad early on when my drink was served in a clearly dirty glass. On request that it be changed, the drink returned having been simply poured into another glass rather than fresh serving. We then had to ask for a menu despite booking our lunch reservation and I was pretty excited at the prospect of a wood fired pizza. However a choice of 4 options had to include cheddar cheese, (apparently mozzarella on a pizza is unheard of at the Bicknoller). Food arrived relatively quickly but not at the same time. We soon realised the quick delivery was not a good sign! The beige veggie burger was shop bought and simply chucked in the deep fryer on the premises and sandwiched between a cheap, white, long-life bap. The coleslaw was clearly shop bought too, possibly Tesco Value. So to the pizza.. where to start! The fact that it was evidently not wood fired. The fact that it was, again, a shop bought base. The fact that it was dripping with cheese with 2 old, browning basil leaves resting on the top. When approached by the waiter to ask if our meals were ok, I simply raised my concerns with the pizza. To which he claimed that he had already told me it was a bought base. This was outrageous, as this was clearly a lie. What kind of establishment insinuates the customer is lying? Due to all of these issues, we both decided we were not happy to eat any more of the food or pay for such terrible meals. On explaining this to the waiter, he demanded to know why meaning we had to repeat our grievances and he became very defensive and rude. When the manager approached, she too was extremely rude and difficult to communicate with. We understand how Covid-19 has affected how restaurants are able to work but felt that she used this as an excuse for the poor quality of food. She even accused me of not noticing that the wood fire oven was not lit when I walked in! I was a little bit more preoccupied with sanitising my hands and scanning the track and trace app! She proceeded to ask us if we’d eaten there before and offered us a measly 10% off the food. Why on earth would I be happy to pay £11.70 for a pizza I did not eat? On refusal, she went off to consult the owner and said they would only charge us for our drinks, which as a gesture of good will should have been free of charge. Meanwhile, whilst awaiting the owners response, we spoke to 2 other paying guests who were completely flabbergasted at the way we were being spoken to and treated. Not one member of staff apologised for our disappointing experience and we have left feeling incredibly disgruntled and deflated with a definite loss of appetite! My advice to this establishment would be train your staff on how to deliver good customer service, provide a smaller, higher quality menu rather than offering rehashed cash and carry food and accept that the customer is always right!!

If they dont like the look of you they refuse you a tab... even if you spend £90.on your previous visit. Its laughable...my husband was in the pub and they offered him a tab... son joined 10mins later asked to put his on the same tab to be told he had to pay cash...that they dont do tabs !! very embarrassing. staff friendly but Come on management sort yourselves out please!! Ultimately you are costing yourself custom.

Group of 6 2nd visit1st visit was made to feel welcome. However on 2nd visit. Poor service when ordering food. Not offered same service as other 'locals'Payment in cash left in tin. Handed over at bar but then accused of non payment. Made to feel not welcome.Very disapointed. Fish chips.... Not even offered peas. However on looking around other tables where offered peas/curry sauceSuch a shame as previous reviews were positive... Clearly the current situation has influenced attitudes towards visitors.

Had a mixed grill meal that was cooked to perfection, my partner had fillet steak. The best steak and mixed grill I’ve tasted for a long time. Would I eat there again - Definitely Would I recommend this business - yes I do My advice to local people to The Bicknoller Inn is, you have a lovely local pub that like all businesses at this time struggling to cope with running (Coronavirus) please support it and visit. SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES. Keep safe and carry on.

Humans are suspicious of change and this was how the change of ownership at The Bick was viewed. Why were we concerned? It seems the changeover was seamless, largely similar menu n same caring n efficient service - keep it up guys, allis well from t'other side of the counter. Good on ya..

Having used the Bick under the previous owners, this was my first try for takeaway since then. I'd heard the Ish n chips were good so thought I'd give em a try. Very friendly contact on the phone when I rang so I was very happy to order. At the bar had a nice pint of Tally Ho whilst waiting. A chat with a few locals (loosely neighbours I suppose) then home to eat. All tasted great. Nice fish - good size too. Nicely cookec chips. Mushy peas n curry sauce mmm. Will order again (when my diet allows). Thank you

Firstly I was amazed that we managed to get a table here. The landlady did everything possible to fit us in which was greatly appreciated. My partner and I are big fans of out the way places to eat. This place was fantastic. The staff were very welcoming as were other guests already at the establishment. It was rustic, warm and beautiful. The food was fantastic as well, not too long a wait and the steaks were cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend and will be returning. Definitely a place to visit.

Recently booked (although it was last minute) for a table of 10 Adults and two children for their Sunday Roast. Was pleased they could accept us but only later. Unfortunately I did not check, but this is a carvery style buffet, which is not our ideal scenario. Staff were friendly and attentive But we felt that the tables were just too close together to be comfortable, particularly if you have to get up to line up for lunch. Food was good but unfortunately the meat was almost finished by the time we arrived, the chef was counting our heads to make sure he had enough... which barely made it. The place is fun and relaxed and I think has huge potential, we tried to book again for an alternative Friday evening meal and was surprised to be told when I called that "we are not serving food tonight". Not sure if this is the norm, as no explanation was given and as we are new to the area and trying to find a good "local" was a bit confused by this...

dropped in here last sunday and the place was fully booked! however the staff were friendly and helpful and offered us a table in the bar which was perfect for us. The chef could have been a bit more cheerful, but the food was lovely. I'm gluten free and they provided some gluten free gravy when requested. my only complaint is that the cauliflower cheese wasnt gluten free (its not at all difficult to make it gluten free!) and they could offer GF yorkshire puds? Apart from that it was a really nice meal. If they tried harder with the GF I would rate it excellent rather than very good! reasonable price too

I attended for lunch with a group of friends and right from arrival we were made very welcome. The menu was comprehensive with a number of ‘specials’ also available. The dining area was warm with a wood burner alight which made a nice focal area. For lunch I had sea bass fish cakes with salad and sweet chilli which was from the ‘specials’ board. It was delicious! There was a good choice of puddings and also coffee with mints. Despite us being a group of 15 for lunch, all were served at the same time which was perfect. The staff worked well together, making a really good team.

We visited the Bick for Sunday lunch today. It was very tasty and filling- the carvery was as good if not better than anywhere else locally. I actually had one of the vegetarian options - Brie and beetroot tart which was delicious. My family said the meat was excellent too.

A lovely traditional pub. Booked ahead & were told the 2 of us could be 'fitted in' but most tables empty while we were there. Good service from young barmaid but landlord didn't acknowledge our arrival even with a look. Sunday roast was huge & hot & delicious, great choice of veg & biggest Yorkshire pud I've ever seen. Spoiled only by the copious gravy being beef flavour for both of us, would have been nicer to have had matching chicken gravy with mine. Very good value, and we came home with a generous doggy bag.
