The Bertie in Rhondda Cynon Taf

Needs updating and fumigating the smell from the rooms is vile and the state of the kitchen is not good either. Staff are friendly but sadly I will not be returning after smelling animal fescues clearly down to owner not cleaner…..

Very disappointed with booking.com having a hotel like this on their site. Electrics hanging from wall. No lighting in bathroom. Toilet seat as an optional extra in the corner of the room. This place is in breach of so many health and safety rules. Avoid at all costs!

We stayed from Tuesday 11th to Saturday 16th July. We come most years as our father was from this area. Staff and locals are lovely and friendly, Fish, chips and mushy peas we had was delicious. Rooms basic but for price good value. We will definitely be returning. Julie, Audrey and Tony xxx

We went for 2 drinks on a Friday afternoon. It was such a beautiful day. The pub is family run and you could tell. We were given the best of welcomes. What should of been 2 drinks turned in to an afternoon of sing on the karaoke. The drinks were cold and plenty of fizz (best pint about). Will we go again? Hell yes! Well done the Bertie ! Perfect little village pub. Forgot to add. There's a bus stop right out side too.

I went here for lunch whilst working in the local area. Food was really good, my burger was very tasty! Team all very friendly as well, would definitely return!

We have just stayed for a couple of nights. Rooms are basic and would benefit from a bit of a refurb, which is about to begin, but are clean and have everything you need. Visited a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday when travelling down to Cardiff. It was really nice and Ceri was really friendly and looked after me well when I visited. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area!

I visited the Bertie and it was really nice. The manager Ceri was really welcoming and there was a nice atmosphere. Good range of beers too!

Just moved to the area and popped in for some food after a hard day decorating. Staff really friendly, food was served quickly and really hot, also great value. Little hidden gem. Will definitely be back soon

We had stay at Bertie 25th July to 1st August 22. This was such a great break going down memory lane as we used to visit with Mom and Dad when they were alive. Dad was from South Wales. We were not disappointed, the manager and staff were so welcoming. The rooms were basic but for price £350 was great value. Clean comfortable bed, nice fluffy towels and TV in our rooms. We will definitely be returning. Entertainment in Bertie at weekend and local social club where we played bingo. Good food in Bertie and in Talk of Town cafe.

This has to be the worst place I've ever stayed while away. The room was dirty, dated and the whole place in a state of general disrepair. Worse still the was splatters of blood up the bathroom wall. It was Extreemly noisy even throughout the day lots of shouting and banning. The food was inedible, an we actually left it. The resteramt area was in the pub this was also dirty and run down. The next thing we knew was screaming and shouting from patrons at the pub, alone with the defining noise from the band. When I spoke with the manager she was unapologetic and rude. We then had a member of staff male turn up at the room door with a stinking attitude and quight aggressive Needless to say we left at 8pm. Do not stay at this establishment. It is disgusting

Stayed here to go to six nations rugby in Cardiff and for that it’s a great place as the local train station is two minutes down the road. When we booked in the music playing in the pub was almost deafening but luckily we couldn’t hear it from our room. The lady who booked us in was friendly and welcoming but I’m afraid that’s where the good points finish. The whole place is shabby and needs a major redecoration, the bedroom needed a vacuum, there was a plum stone in the plug hole, but no plug! no hot water in the shower, stains on the bed sheet and a black hair! There was also a black hair on the shower controls. In the middle of the night the emergency lighting came on in the bedroom which was very bright and was on for quite a while. So all in all not a good place to stay, which is a shame as the location is very handy for events in Cardiff.

Just had the most delicious Sunday roast at The Bertie. Piping hot, fresh veg and excellent value for money. Fab roasties too! Lovely, friendly staff, very clean too. Will definitely return soon!

Went out for a Christmas meal on the 17th of December, which was quite frankly like somethingOut of faulty towers.Some meals delivered 20 minutes before others, some inedible, cold, some even totally the wrong thing without any explanation.Was so bad, we didn't even complain.

Food was overcooked and some was almost inedible. Service was good at first but tapered off as owners' friends gathered at the bar. We were cold in the mostly empty eating area.

Needs a lot of refurbishment. I was disappointed to see that no breakfast was served and this would be helpful if it could be shown on Booking.com. The bedroom was old and in need of a major refurbishment. The price charged did not reflect the room facilities. The TV had no Ariel, the remote control was held together by gaffer tape. Tea and coffee with kettle left for the occupiers but no mugs or teaspoons to make the drinks. Floorboards were loose and noisy, bed old and uncomfortable and kept moving. Although the owners had no control over other residents there was a group of girls banging their door and arguing between 04.10am and 05.30am and twice I had to shout out through my door to shout be quiet and go to bed. Where the owners were I really don’t know and why they let this behaviour continue was bizarre. The lady who checked us in was very nice as were all the bar staff. I am led to believe this property changed hands four weeks ago but they need to do a huge amount of work to bring this up to a standard where they charged me what they did. I have seen and stayed at better run properties in a pub at £50 per night and which includes breakfast. I would not come here again sadly!

We needed a base as we were shooting a film just down the road, I spoke to Libby at The Bertie and she couldn't have been more helpful. We were able to have a lovely space in the pub, the staff were so hospitable! Top Service! Thanks to Libby and the team.

Well the staff were so wonderful and being English in a real welsh pub and we were welcomed and had a fab night. The food and drink was exactly as you would expect from a pub. The chef came out to see us, made a few tasters and the bar maid came over several times to check everything was good. The prices are amazing and the portions are huge. Wish I lived locally as this would be my local. Thank you all for a lovely evening.

Came here after visiting the Rhondda Heritage Park. Food was good portions and tasty and well priced. Nice atmosphere and friendly welcome and would return!

Great value sunday lunch. Really tasty and cooked perfectly, the desserts were huge! It gets busy so you may want to book ahead.

Food was dry - the burger was all broken up inside the roll, wondered how? chips were tasteless - unfortunately not a good experience

We have not been to The Bertie for about six months so six members of my family met up last Friday for a meal and a dance. Altough the pub was quite busy, there were two Birthday parties eating service was very efficient and friendly, excellent beer, Marstons Pedigree and Stella Artois less than £3 a pint food was well cooked pub grub, Brunch is on ly £4 and with a decent female artiste singing songs from the 60s until modern day we had a great night.I would highly reccomend a Friday night as they have live entertainment, so if you like a drink and a dance this is the place for you. Landlady Lee and her staff coped very well with the crowd,so well done. those reviewers that complained about lack of wine choice and not fresh cooked food are in the wrong place, The Bertie is cheap and chheerful, what you see is what you get.

Rather out of our way we stumbled upon this pub and stopped for a bite to eat.A good welcome and lots going on, the menu was varied and, for us, quite inexpensive!The food serving was generous and nicely cooked, the beers were Marstons and not known to us, but Okay. This is a 'local pub' in the old sense and good to visit. IF we were ever close by we would certainly have our lunch there again.

have not eaten here for a while. arrived and it was very busy but did manage to get 1 spare table. food and service was great even though they were busy. unfortunately not a good selection of wine was only offered house wine which was warm. but generally good value for money and would definitely return

Parking is available outside but spaces are limited. We received a friendly welcome on a very quiet Monday night. Beer was very good but the food was very basic and not cooked from fresh. I had the scampi and chips as you normally can’t go wrong with such a simple meal. My friend had some Yorkshire puddings filled with mash and a basic sausage stuck in the top. The feed was ok and cheap which was fine for us. Not my typical type of eatery.

We all had the Sunday Roast. The service was fast, the food was plentiful and arrived piping hot.Can thoroughly recommend anyone of their deserts from the chalk board.Have eaten here on a number of occasions and look forward to our next visit.Great value for money and you wont be disappointed.

Food and service is always excellent and this year Christmas meal didn't disappoint. I am prepared to say that it was definitely the best Christmas meal we had over the holiday season.

We go to the Bertie every few weeks and it is always lovely. It is our local and it never fails to dissapoint! Leigh, Jane and all the staff are lovely and the food is great for the price :)

I came here with my family and friends and considering the place was very busy we were delighted by the awesome service and food, nothing was to much trouble. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a Sunday lunch with a really good atmosphere.

Lovely little pub in Trehafod. Good quality meals, no need to do a weeks shopping for the sake of about £6 for two courses. If your looking for a local night out, The Bertie as entertainment every Friday night. It's a nice clean pub which offers cheap accommodation and really friendly staff.

I live locally and used to visit regularly. You have to wait ages for the food which is not fresh, tasteless and greasy on the last two occasions I have visited! The woman even tried to interrupt my food just to empty the jukebox of money! All three meals for the same today and the roast at the weekend is just as bad! Avoid and try the Greenfield in Ystrad instead!

Main meal (including roast dinner) are only £5 so you can't expect the world but the food is decent and the portions are generous. Great place for a cheap afternoon or evening out and an excuse to have a nice pint!

My family live in the rhondda so on visiting about 4 years ago we went to The Bertie for Lunch and really enjoyed. Thought as I was visiting home again I would treat my family ther again. Checked on Hygenie Rating and it had dropped to a one think I will be avoding it this time I return Home disappointing.

Just finished an excellent Christmas meal at the BertiesTrehafod. Very good food and staff.Amazing value for money paid 10.99.for 3 courses. Good after dinner entertainment by excellent singer.

Myself and my parents have been to The Bertie in Trehafod just for the last month. We go an afternoon for a meal and I think we will be regulars from now on. The place does have a sentimental value for my parents who are both in their 80’s as it’s where they met!Both my parents are on sticks so parking close to the building and the fact that the restaurant is all on one level is fantastic. The menu is varied and is superb value for money. My favourite is the BBQ Chicken Mac n Cheese, but everything we have ordered has been lovely. The Staff are fantastic and can’t do enough for you. They also have entertainment on the weekends, but I haven’t been so I can’t comment on that. Their Sunday Lunch has a very good reputation, but once again I haven’t been, but if it’s anything like their weekday meals, you won’t be able to beat it.I would highly recommend you try this.

Stayed for one night in room 1 . Decoration was tired but the room was clean and the bed comfortable . Car spaces a few yards from the door . Will visit again if I need to stay in the area

Love this pub, sunday lunch is one of the best I've had. Me, my husband and mother inlaw always have a warm welcome, lee and her staff are fantastic. Would recommend you taste the food here you will NOT be disappointed.

Myself and my three comrades of the Royal Welsh have stayed in The Bertie every October for about 6 years so we can attend the above mentioned reunion.We have found this pub to be very friendly, the staff very accommodating,and the food particularly the breakfast superb ! The locals are always friendly towards us .Lee the landlady and her staff work very hard to run this pub.The accommodation is basic but very comfortable. We shall certainly be here again next year.

Well what can i say we had stopped off for food after a trip to pontypridd a very warm welcome a very clean place we had 2 breakfast and 2 drinks under a tenner and 1 hunters chicken and 1 chicken salad all meals stunning a must place to stop off and try a good place to eat

The place was empty.....but it was early afternoon....the wifi was not too good....but we enjoyed the Hobgoblin beer!

I go two bertiess on a regular. Bases for food the food and service is great staff a very friendly and help full and over the past two years I've had a lot of family stay there and they love it there and will continue to book them in there grate place to stay

I live local, and I have to say the Bertie has gone downhill. The staff aren't very friendly or chatty, if you're not a regular everyone seems to be staring at you, the bar staff seem lazy and I've seen them on their phone more than once. They need better trained staff, a head waiter would be recommended, just to keep things in balance, and give a managerial prospective to the staff. And for a bar, it's rather dead. Lovely for regulars, not for travellers.

called here yesterday for meal.on arriving asked female who i assume was owner ' excuse me are you still serving food' and instead of replying in a friednly manner 'yes' replied sarcasticly havent yet started !!!!! charming !!!!..pub looks grubby / everyone stared as you walked in as if you wasnt a regular you were not allowed there. chicken was just luke warm..

We were a group of around 30 - various ages. Around 10 had starters, but 2 of them received their soup after all the others had finished and the kitchen had to be prompted for this - they forgot about it. Same thing happened with the main meals, everyone had finished and one person received their meal that the kitchen had forgotten about and had to eat on their own. Also, as we had pre ordered two weeks in advance, we were expecting to get the right order. One person ordered theirs with no peas - it came with peas. Fries were orderd by a few but they got steak cut chips. When we had deserts they came with the wrong extras. Ice cream was ordered but it came with squirty cream ect... and again one person was left eating their pudding on their own as the kitchen had forgotten about it. Food ok but pre ordering doesnt work - needs some organisation.

I am 54 years young, and so far this is the best pub I have been to, I have led a sheltered life, but have decided to age disgracefully - it is so much fun.Leah the landlady is a powerhouse of energy, and firm but fair - how she does it I really don't know. I found all the staff cheerful and friendly, the locals much the same. The residents - good blokes. The food is just how I like it, hot, tasty and very reasonably priced. If you want 5* - go somewhere else! I stayed here for 4 nights - lovely and quiet, despite being above a busy pub. Clean and comfortable. The place is great for a gathering and there were a few there this week, but this did not stop the excellent service for the residents as well as the guests. This is my idea of heaven.

Seeing bad reviews is always disappointing and believe me i have written a few but i have never had a problem here what you see is what you get no pretence

food there was excellent for the price the head cheff celia is a asset to the company her food and presentation was outstanding and served our food to the table and couldn't be any more helpull to us , excellent food ,excellent service and brilliant price , cant wait to go back soon the food is lovely thanks for a lovely meal.....

We stayed here last week for 3days coming from Berlin to be at my dads funeral-We relly liked it there and Lee the landlady and her husband were lovely -the others who worked there were very nice tooOf course its not the Ritz but clean rooms and very comfy at a reasonable price and a good english breakfast in the morningOnly had food there one evening and it was lovely-a small beergarden outside for smokers tooWe will definately come back again !

I don't understand the couple of bad reviews on here. I am a regular in the bertie and have allways found the staff very friendly,the food good value and the drinks reasonably priced. Where else can you get a bottle of wine as cheap as it is bere,currently £6.99 a bottle. All in all a lovely local village pub.

Last week I had to put in my order as I was holding my parents anniversary meal there.was told they needed to know what every1 was having so they could get the food in readythe service was awful..the staff were rude and miserable and rubbish customer serviceMy friend ordered a special dish as she a veggie..and what she ordered they didn't have so gave her something else..wish to be honest she had 2 have as they gave her not much of a choice,but the best bit was her food was frozen in the middle..which I thought was not acceptable at all and we all were so glad to leave and totally ruined my parents anniversary meal

Went here as part of a party of 19 people. We pre ordered our food 6 days previously, however I was told that what I had ordered was not available (What was the point of pre ordering if they are not going to get it in for you!) Being a vegetarian there was very little other options. I opted for the red pepper pasta and after I started eating it found it was frozen in the middle, ended up with no food!! The staff were very rude . I will never go here again.

Very bad food, service was a shambles bringing food that we didn't order. My wife's food was still frozen and they tried to charge us for it, chef was not wearing a hat or net covering her matted long hair the landlady was well grumpy, the fire door was bolted shut which is surely against any health and safety,

I visited The Bertie in Trehafod last weekend with family,there were twenty one of us and ages ranged from two months to seventy years old. We ate a wide variety of food from the comprehensive menu including starters, mains and desserts, all meals were acceptable as standard pub grub and the prices are very competitive as were the prices of the drinks, with bottles of wine at £ 7 - 99 and two guest ales which were cheaper than most pubs in the area. The night we visited there was a birthday party being held as well as our gathering and other people were dining as there was a singer performing but service was carried out very efficiently and when extras were asked for they were served quickly and serving staff were friendly and helpful. Will be visiting again.

There’s a very distinctive smell in this place, and I’m not quite sure what it is, but it’s indescribably bad. The quality of food is appalling and almost inedible. I’d like to know where they source their “beef” from, because I’ve never tasted anything like it before. But the worst thing about this place is the “service”. The staff make you feel uncomfortable by their rude manner. My advice is to stay well clear!

We ate here a few months back, but the service and food was so bad it stuck in my mind! When we arrived the pub was empty apart from a few old men sitting and staring at us uncomfortably from the bar. When ordering our food at the bar both my mother and I asked if we could have mashed potato instead of chips, the woman serving us didn't look happy and the old men sitting at the bar were laughing and even asked us inappropriately if we were Irish! In the end the barmaid agreed that we could have mash instead of the chips. After we sat down we could hear the old men and barmaid laughing and joking at us and they kept looking over and staring. The landlady brought our food but there were chips instead of mash on the plates!! When we told her that we had asked for mash not chips she looked really annoyed and snatched the plate from us and shouted at the old men at the bar "If they don't like it they can go somewhere else!" To be honest I was really upset by her behaviour and it was the last thing I expected when eating out. When she brought the food back with the mash she looked at me and insincerely apologised and then turned to the old men and the barmaid and said "That's the way I am if they don't bloody like it they can go somewhere else!" I was actually in shock at the attitude of these small minded people and I will never go back and have told many people to never go there!

Looking run-down in parts grumpy service from bar staff and faces pulled when asked for a clean glass as it was dirty. food was OK for £3.99 but out of popular items on the menu. no paper towels in toilets a air hand dryer and large old hand towel on unit some suspect old stains on walls of the toilets apart from that clean not stayed in the B+B part of the pub.

I've stayed here several times over the last few years, Unbeatable value! Admittedly, It's not posh, but it's very genuine and is obviously & justifiably popular with the locals.
